I used to hate the sloppy preseason games.
Later learned that I'd never see these guys again after the season starts(unless your qb1 breaks his ankle).
Have a new appreciation for the preseason.

I love to watch the young and hungrys.

Gotta go with the under no matter how low.
The only time of the season the coaches tell you their game plan.

Just looked at the line for this game. The total dropped 23 points from the open??

regarding tomorrow's contest

For new head coach Dan Campbell and his staff, all the positives that have been coming out of camp will be put to the test on the field for the first time. Even though the final score will be meaningless in the ultimate scheme of things.

That is something that Lions fans need to understand first and foremost. Despite the fact that Campbell and his staff would prefer to win, these games aren’t about winning. they are completely about evaluation.

Some starters will get some playing time and others won’t even sniff the field. Heading into the preseason, the desire to have a complete opportunity to evaluate the players and go into the regular season healthy is the big priority. It just doesn’t necessarily happen that way.

Coach Mike Vrabel noted that every player who travels with the team should be ready to play.

He specifically mentioned Darrynton Evans as the starter at running back. That means the NFL’s leading rusher the past two years, Derrick Henry, won’t play.

Vrabel also said quarterback Ryan Tannehill isn’t likely to play and rookie cornerback Caleb Farley isn’t ready to play. It also is a good guess receivers Julio Jones and A.J. Brown won’t play.

Tannehill’s absence will give backup Logan Woodside extensive playing time. Third quarterback Matt Barkley only joined the team this week.

As a titans fan I wouldn’t go near them this week. Why they haven’t addressed the backup qb job is beyond me. If Ryan goes down they are fucked. At least have a capable veteran as the 2.

When the Chargers face the crosstown rival Rams Saturday night, they'll do so without star quarterback Justin Herbert. Los Angeles coach Brandon Staley revealed Thursday that Herbert, running back Austin Ekeler, receiver Keenan Allen and strong safety Derwin James will not play during the 2021 preseason. The first time these players will take the field will be when the Chargers travel to Washington for their regular-season opener on Sept. 12.

With Herbert out, expect preseason reps to be split between Chase Daniel, Easton Stick and rookie K.J. Costello. A 12-year veteran, Daniel -- who signed with the Chargers this offseason after spending the last two seasons with the Bears -- will start Saturday's game against the Rams. Stick was the only other Chargers quarterback other than Herbert who threw a pass during the 2020 regular season. An undrafted rookie, Costello threw 55 touchdowns against 29 interceptions during a college career that included three seasons at Stanford and an additional year as Mississippi State's starter.

Ever since Sean McVay came aboard in Los Angeles, the Rams have been no stranger to sitting their key players throughout the preseason slate.

Based on McVay's strict preseason curriculum in past seasons, it felt evident that players such as quarterback Matthew Stafford, defensive tackle Aaron Donald and cornerback Jalen Ramsey, would not take a snap until Week 1 of the regular season.

And while those three cornerstone players won't play, it appears McVay will take it up one more notch and sit even more players than he's done in previous seasons.

"We'll get a chance to see a lot of our depth guys because there's going to be probably about 35 players that are not playing in this game for us," McVay said following Thursday's practice. "The goal is always to try to stay healthy."

McVay has always leaned on the side of caution, and he's going to continue to do so — except he's upping the ante once more.

As backup quarterback John Wolford recovers from an appendectomy last week, McVay has already ruled him out for preseason play.

“No, he’s not playing this preseason," McVay said of Wolford on Tuesday.

The quarterbacks, Devlin 'Duck' Hodges and Bryce Perkins — will share snaps throughout the preseason.

Justin Fields may not be the Bears' starting quarterback yet, but Chicago wants to get a long look at him during the preseason. It sounds as if he will play deep into the second half of his first NFL preseason game.

Bears coach Matt Nagy told ESPN's Jeff Dickerson that No. 1 quarterback Andy Dalton will play no more than a series or two in the preseason opener vs. the Dolphins. After that, Fields will take over and could play into the fourth quarter.

Fields may not exclusively play with the second-team offense. Nagy is hoping that the rookie can get first-team reps, depending on whether Dalton's first drive goes well.

So who is likely to play, and play a lot, on Saturday? We can make some educated guesses based on recent comments from Zimmer.

Cousins and the starting offense will get a series or two. Christian Darrisaw obviously won't be included in that unit, as he just had a second procedure on his lingering groin injury. Justin Jefferson almost certainly will not play; he hasn't practiced since injuring his shoulder a week ago. Dalvin Cook may or may not get some action.
It'll be a lot of second and third-string players on offense, but rookie QB Kellen Mond won't be among them, Zimmer said this week. Mond just returned from the Reserve/COVID list earlier this week. I'd expect Jake Browning to get the lion's share of the work at quarterback, with Nate Stanley and/or Danny Etling potentially getting mixed in during the second half. Stanley's health is a question mark, though, after he missed both joint practices with Denver.

Other players to watch on offense include Rashod Hill, Oli Udoh, and the rest of the offensive line, K.J. Osborn, Ihmir Smith-Marsette, Kene Nwangwu, and a variety of other young players fighting for roster spots.

Defensively, the story is the same. The veteran-heavy starting defense won't see much time. Danielle Hunter did say this week that he thinks it's important to get some reps in the preseason, to "go out there and have a feel for what it’s like again," while still being smart about saving himself for the games that count.

Even reduced to three games, the NFL preseason is a minefield of potential injuries to important players. That’s why most teams rest their starters for all but a quarter or two in August. The Panthers will be no exception this year.

After the end of today’s joint practice with the Colts, coach Matt Rhule said Sam Darnold and most of his team’s ones will not play on Sunday.
That means more reps for backups P.J. Walker and Will Grier, who are both listed as the QB2 on the team’s first unofficial depth chart.

Walker played for the Colts before his brief stint as a superstar in the XFL, and he’ll get the ball first.

Walker could be an effective pre season Q. The rest of those guys don’t scare me. I like Colts depth more but PJ might do damage.

The Arizona Cardinals suit up Friday night for their second preseason contest of the year. They face the Kansas City Chiefs. Kansas City plans on playing their starters for the first half.

The Cardinals have not revealed how much they plan on playing their starters. “You’ll have to tune in and check it out,” he told reporters Wednesday. He also indicated that the fact that the Chiefs are playing their starters for a half wouldn’t change what the Cardinals do.

Some starters are out with injuries. Chandler Jones is not expected to play and Markus Golden will be a gametime decision.

Defensive tackle Jordan Phillips and starting left guard Justin Pugh are on the COVID list. Guards Justin Murray and Brian Winters are out with injuries. Receiver DeAndre Hopkins probably will not play.

Added these, updated above post.

Wash -5.5
Ravens -3
Titans +1
Texans +3.5

Some teams haven't given an indication on their strategy yet. May be last minute.

he can play the whole game, won't make a difference.
The fact that fat Andy is ramping up is the reason for the bet.

It lands where it lands.

The Rams have placed punters Johnny Hekker and Corey Bojorquez on the COVID-19/Reserve list, the team announced Saturday.

When players are placed on the COVID-19/Reserve list, it can mean two things: the player tested positive for COVID-19 or they have been deemed a close contact with an infected person.

As the Rams get set to host the Las Vegas Raiders at SoFi Stadium at 7 P.M. PT for their second preseason matchup, they'll be without a punter for the contest. Whether they rely on kicker Matt Yag to fulfill the duties or someone else, a determination will likely be made clear during pregame warm-ups.
