NBA Rumor Mill

Yeah, watch NY trade away Nate right after he wins the dunk competition and brings basically the only positive press to the Knicks in a year. That would be par for the course and it would make me want to get on a plane, scalp a ticket, buy six $15 beers, pound them, and immediately go vomit at mid-court.

Truthfully, it would be worth the cost.

would like to see KD on USA roster, also respect VCs response to the trade. wish he was that professional near the end with the raps..

I agree with him on that. You don't think it would affect LA's enthusiasm for this trade whether Kobe was 100% in favor of it or dead-set against it? I think if he told management he thought they needed Shaq right now and he was totally for it, the deal would be under serious talks right now.

nah not really. after the whole kidd fiasco and kupchak having gained credibility by putting together the current squad. kobe is wise enough to shut his mouth and know his place.

and even if kobe was for it, shaq threw buss and kupchak under bus along with kobe. the bridge certainly felt burned when he left town but i guess if he was willing to play for a mil or somethin small just to add rings to his resume it could work out. other than that i don't see the lakers ever making a concerted effort to bring him back. and the idea that they should trade odom for him is laughable

The sad truth is that they're gonna have to lose one of the fan favorites, Lee or Nate. There's no way around it, short of them pulling off a miracle and dumping Curry and/or Jeffries. They can't afford to keep both Lee and Nate and make the sort of push they want to in 2010.

Someone tell me why Toronto does that deal?

Horrible deal for Toronto. Chicago and the Suns make out like bandits.

We gain no capspace, no picks, get older, and more injury prone.

Chicago trying to bring in Wolves to make the Amare deal happen.

The Chicago Bulls are still trying to come up with ways to land All-Star Amare Stoudemire from Phoenix, Adrian Wojnarowski from Yahoo! Sports is reporting. Citing a Western Conference executive, the latest proposal involves Minnesota, and would include Kirk Hinrich moving to the Wolves.
Phoenix would receive Tyrus Thomas, who they covet, along with the expiring contracts of both Drew Gooden and Jason Collins.
Phoenix still are believed to be leaning towards keeping Stoudemire despite the latest efforts.

Makes more sense than the Toronto one.

Blazers enter the Carter derby.

This is the type of threat that would put the Blazers over the top.

Sources say the Blazers and Nets have discussed a deal that would exchange Vince Carter for Raef LaFrentz and his expiring contract along with Travis Outlaw and Sergio Rodriguez. Channing Frye could also be included if the Nets include Sean Williams or Stromile Swift.

T-Mac For Baron Discussed

Baron Davis | Clippers
In addition to looking at Vince Carter, the Rockets have discussed a deal with the Clippers that would send McGrady to L.A. in exchange for a package featuring point guard Baron Davis, according to league sources. McGrady has been battling knee problems all season, while the Clippers have been busy in recent days trying to move Davis, who they signed last summer to a free-agent deal in excess of $60 million. -- New York Daily News

A Lot Of Work To Be Done

Hedo Turkoglu | Magic
The agent for Hedo Turkoglu, who can opt out of his contract after the season, says there is "a lot of work to be done" before the Magic's starting small forward re-signs with the team. "I would say that there is common ground. There is appreciation on the part of the Magic that Hedo is a significant part of the team and the role he plays, playing multiple positions," said Lon Babby, Turkoglu's agent, on Tuesday.
"Hedo enjoys the team and living in Orlando and appreciates the opportunity the Magic have given him. That said, there is a lot of work to be done to reach an agreement."
Turkoglu says he will wait until this summer to make a decision on whether he will opt out. -- Orlando Sentinel

No Interest In Trading Butler Or Jamison

Team President Ernie Grunfeld has fielded calls from several teams looking to pry away a valuable piece of his squad before tomorrow's 3 p.m. trade deadline, with Caron Butler and Antawn Jamison leading the list of most-wanted Wizards. But Grunfeld isn't interested in giving away either former all-star in a salary dump and will likely stand pat, according to team sources. According to sources, the Cavaliers have dangled forward Wally Szczerbiak and his $13.8 million expiring contract in separate offers for Butler and Jamison, while the Trail Blazers have expressed interest in Butler.
The Wizards have weighed various offers for Jamison, who is in the first year of the four-year, $50 million deal he signed over the summer, but the team is looking to include veteran center Etan Thomas in any major deal and hasn't found a taker. -- The Washington Post

Off The Books

Geoff Petrie said the NBA granted the Kings salary cap relief for 2008-09 and 2009-10 for the contract of Shareef Abdur-Rahim. The retired forward and current Kings assistant coach still will be paid his salary ($12.8 million combined this season and next) by an insurance company because of his career-ending knee problems, but the contract was taken off the payroll for cap purposes. -- Sacramento Bee

Rockets Determined To Keep Yao

Yao Ming | Rockets
Leslie Alexander said the Rockets are determined to keep Yao Ming, who can opt out of his contract after next season. "When you have great players and a guy who works as hard as he does, we want to keep them," Alexander said. "He's a model NBA player. We want to keep him for the rest of his career." -- Houston Chronicle

Odd Are Nets Will Stand Pat

The Nets and Rockets have discussed a deal that would send Vince Carter, Eduardo Najera and Ryan Anderson to Houston for Ron Artest, Shane Battier, Carl Landry and Luther Head, league sources said. Nets' sources said the team isn't close to doing anything and odds are they'll stand pat. But they still have time and still are talking to teams. -- The Record

Steady Progress

Gilbert Arenas | Wizards
While Gilbert Arenas has not yet been cleared to practice or play in games, he is making steady progress, according to Wizards interim coach Ed Tapscott. "Mainly shooting around," Tapscott said of what Arenas has been doing during practice. "What we call breakdown shooting, where it's not just shooting, there's a little movement as well. Just ramping up slowly as part of the rehab process to see what kind of stress the knee can take."
Tapscott said it will entirely be up to the team's medical staff to determine when Arenas will be cleared to return to practice and eventually, to games. -- The Washington Post

Blazers Remain In Contention For Lee

David Lee | Knicks
One Eastern Conference executive says that the Portland Trail Blazers remain in contention for David Lee but that the Knicks have not been blown away by anything Portland is offering. One reported deal is Lee for Jerryd Bayless and Travis Outlaw. If Lee is on the roster after the deadline he'll become a restricted free agent on July 1 and the Knicks would have the option to match any offer. However, if Lee commands a salary of anything above $8 million per season, the Knicks may be reluctant to re-sign the power forward.
"The object is to see if we can get a deal that would be helpful to the team," Donnie Walsh said, "but not interfere with what we're trying to do eventually." -- New York Daily News

Sources say Knick president Donnie Walsh has told teams interested in Lee they'd have to take back injured center Eddy Curry, too. That's probably a deal-killer. -- New York Post

Refining The Bench

Asked if Tony Allen's injury would lead him to go after another guard, Danny Ainge said, "I don't think that changes anything we're doing or changes our mind-set. "We like our team, depth, and talent. If a trade comes where we can improve our team, we will consider it. But we have nothing imminent." "Refining our bench is what we're trying to accomplish," said Ainge. "We have big-money guys that our team is built around and are not trading. Anything we do would be to solidify the bench." -- The Boston Globe

Blockbuster Not Expected

Will the Mavericks look the same after Thursday's 2 p.m. trade deadline? "I have no idea," Rick Carlisle said. "I think it'll look a lot like this. And it may very well be the same. I'm not anticipating any blockbuster trades. But with Donnie Nelson, who knows? He's pulled off some big ones before. Time will tell.
"If this is the group we have, I like this group. I'm not anticipating anything earth-shaking for us. I'm very pleased with the group we have. These are good guys and terrific players. And if we get healthy, which is one of our goals, that's going to help even more." -- The Dallas Morning News

Nelson Healing Quickly

Jameer Nelson | Magic
Able to lift his right arm overhead and surprised by the progress he's made the past two weeks, injured Orlando Magic guard Jameer Nelson is still holding out hope of playing again this season. "I think I can still play, I think so," Nelson said as he raised his arm up simulating a jump shot. "I'm just keeping hope, keeping the faith and rehabbing it as much as I can and see what I can do after a couple of more weeks in.
"I'm 10 times better already," Nelson continued. "It's gotten so much better, and that's what's giving me hope."
Nelson said a final decision about surgery or a return will likely come in the next two weeks. -- Florida Today

Point Guard Depth Needed

Heat president Pat Riley said he likely will add a point guard in the next couple of days, but denied an ESPN report that he might trade Daequan Cook for Charlotte's Raymond Felton or Memphis' Kyle Lowry. "We're not doing any talking about Daequan, but there are a lot of teams asking about him," Riley said. "There are a number of guys we like, but I don't want to give up too much."
Riley said point guard depth is the only issue Miami might address before Thursday's trade deadline. -- The Miami Herald

Teams Eye Salmons

John Salmons | Kings
Sources indicate the trade that sent Tyson Chandler from New Orleans to Oklahoma City might have increased the chance Kings swingman John Salmons is dealt to the Thunder. With a core that includes Kevin Durant, Jeff Green, Russell Westbrook and Chandler and a new urgent commitment to winning sooner, the Thunder appears motivated to add a guard such as Salmons and still retain the pieces to make it happen (expiring deals and draft picks). Dallas, Portland, San Antonio and New York also are believed to be possibilities. The Mavs and Knicks, according to sources, retain interest in Salmons and Kings center Brad Miller. Cleveland also is believed to be pursuing Miller. Potential Dallas deal pieces likely include the "expiring" contract of Jerry Stackhouse %u2013 who is owed $7 million this season but has only $2 million of his $7.3 million next season guaranteed – and perhaps the expiring contract of Brandon Bass ($826,000). -- Sacramento Bee

Rockets Looking To Make A Deal

Though Tracy McGrady declared his season over late Tuesday night, the Rockets are, according to team owner Leslie Alexander, actively looking to make moves not involving the star guard before Thursday's NBA trade deadline. "We're obviously very active to try to improve the team," Alexander said. "We have a lot of assets. I don't know if we'll do anything or not. It depends on other people, not just us." -- Houston Chronicle

Kings Ask About Marbury

Stephon Marbury | Knicks
With the trade deadline approaching Thursday, David Lee has been the most requested Knicks player in calls fielded by Donnie Walsh. But Stephon Marbury's expiring deal has also drawn some interest from what is developing into a seller's market around the NBA, though the teams that have inquired were mainly looking to dump salary on the Knicks. "So far, I haven't seen anything that would benefit us," Walsh said of the interest.
One team that is believed to have asked about Marbury is the Sacramento Kings, a franchise believed to be in serious financial distress because its owners, the Maloof family, lost hundreds of millions in the alleged Bernie Madoff Ponzi scheme. -- Newsday

Not A Good Fit

Shawn Marion | Raptors
Speaking in the hours before the Miami Heat was to introduce Jermaine O'Neal at AmericanAirlines Arena, former Heat forward Shawn Marion acknowledged that he never quite fit in during his year in South Florida. "I think everything was predicated on the halfcourt in Miami, which I can play," Marion said upon his introduction in Toronto about his tenure alongside Dwyane Wade. "But everything was predicated on D-Wade, which there's nothing wrong with, he's a hell of a player, and we were winning and stuff, but I wasn't as effective as I could be."
"The game is supposed to be exciting," Marion said. "I'm tired of playing that boring style, halfcourt, just watching everybody go up and run a play, call this play, run this play. That's boring, I'm not going to lie to you. And I know fans don't enjoy it, either." -- South Florida Sun-Sentinel

Surgery For Najera?

Eduardo Najera | Nets
Eduardo Najera's lower abdominal strain isn't improving, so surgery may be the answer. Najera, who last played Jan. 31, said he's supposed to see a specialist, but he's trying to avoid that scenario. He hopes more rest is the cure. Najera has hernia symptoms and if he has surgery he could be out six weeks.
"As of right now I'm not going to see him," said Najera, who has been linked to a deal with the Rockets. "I'm going to give it this week, rest and see how it feels." -- The Record

Making Gradual Progress

Jerry Stackhouse | Mavericks
Jerry Stackhouse went through the full practice Tuesday but is not expected to be in uniform tonight. Rick Carlisle said Stackhouse is "making gradual progress, but I don't have a timetable yet." -- The Dallas Morning News

Magic To Borrow $10M From NBA

The Orlando Magic plan to borrow about $10 million from the NBA to largely offset operating losses incurred by the franchise, helping to bridge its move into a new arena in 2010. Alex Martins, the Magic's chief operating officer, said on Tuesday that the club is among as many as 15 teams who intend to tap into a $1.7 billion league-wide credit facility that will soon be supplemented. -- Orlando Sentinel

Sent Down

Hamed Haddadi | Grizzlies
The Griz announced early Tuesday that they assigned rookie center Hamed Haddadi to the NBA Development League’s Dakota Wizards. Haddadi returned to Dakota where he averaged six points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.6 blocks in 17.7 minutes over 11 games (seven starts) during his first D-League stint. -- Memphis Commercial-Appeal

Okay, the guy who posted this at Olive [OregonLive] did break the Rose Garden deal before it happened as he said, I was there. He also is not one who "touts" his inside info or ever throws out a bunch of crapola hoping something sticks - so take it FWIW. I am thinking CHI or Char as most likely.
Here goes:

"A buddy who knows some folks emailed the following information.

Trade will be announced by 3PM if the team accepts KP's offer.

It is an Eastern team that is currently outside of the playoffs. It will involve a SF and PG. The team that the offer is on the table for plays tonight. KP wants to get the deal done today to avoid any injury issues.

Believe me or not. I want to remind you that I was about an hour ahead of PA announcing his purchase of the RG.

That said, the ball is in the other team's court, so nothing is for sure"

not solid, but something anyways.

t-dot,

what who is that quote referring to? Carter to Portland? David Lee?

Rumor Refuted

Chris Bosh | Raptors
Another day, another Chris Bosh trade rumour to deny. Only this time, GM Brian Colangelo beat the local media to the punch interrupting a question period about the Jermaine O'Neal/Shawn Marion trade to quash the latest fabrication.
"If I can be very clear here, there is no truth to that," Colangelo said after raising the issue of a reported three-way trade that had Bosh going to Chicago, a package of young players and expiring contracts headed to Phoenix from Chicago and Amare Stoudemire coming to Toronto.
"We have not had any discussions with regard to trading Chris Bosh," Colangelo stressed. -- Toronto Sun

An apparent deal going down involving Portland and an unknown EC team.

Charlotte? Felton/Wallace
Bucks? RJ/Ridnour
Raps? Calderone/Graham
Bulls? Hinrich/Nocioni
Nets? Carter/Dooling

It has to be one of these 5 teams.

no idea why the cavs wouldn't go after gerald wallace...probably a smoother transition and could be better long-term salary-wise than some of the other rumors

Someone on a Portland board mentions that it could be:

VC/Dooling for Rodriguez/Frye/Lafrentz/Koponen

I might play the Mavs now just in case.

Amaré Wants To Stay

Amare Stoudemire | Suns
After two weeks of trade speculation, Amare Stoudemire said there would be no hard feelings if he stays despite calling it "a low blow" to hear they were considering offers. "That's what I've been praying for -- to still stay in Phoenix, where most of my fan base is," he said. "My fans love me, and I love them just as much." -- The Arizona Republic

Report: Michael Ruffin traded to Blazers, Ike Diogu traded to Kings

ESPN.com's Chris Sheridan offers this tidbit in an article on a reported trade between the Bulls and the Kings:
The deal also involved a third team. The Bulls agreed to send Michael Ruffin to Portland, and the Trail Blazers would ship Ike Diogu to the Kings, sources told ESPN The Magazine's Chris Broussard.
Ruffin, a nine-year veteran, has been inactive all season with an ankle injury.
Post your comments and reaction below.

Ike Diogu, too short.

Sometimes when you make really smart, intelligent points, it makes me sad.

=(

Ike Diogu, too short.

I was high as fuck on Diogu comin out of astate. The guy was just a straight up beast in college. I wanted the lakers to draft him so bad. I still remember how CRUSHED I was when Mullin and the Warriors took him at #9 with the lakers on deck. kupchak ended up takin some no name big man project who was supposed to go to uconn.......and i was fuckin pissed :36_11_6:

Brad Millers and Salmons to Chicago

for

Nocioni, Gooden Simmons and Ruffin

As you guys mentioned...ruffin to the Blazers

we just traded our 2nd best place for shitty ass john salmons and slightly better than average center. you just can't make this stuff up. way to go paxson. way to go! i fucking hate this team.

no offense, but you got the better of this trade. Salmons is only making around 5 mil, and is much better than anything you gave up. Miller will allow Ty to comfortably play the 4 by running towards the rim on cuts and oops. It was just sad that you couldn't pull Bosh. Stoudemire would have been better as well.

Where Chicago is sucking dick is by not getting rid of Gordon. That bastard will score thirty, one every 4 or 5 games, but he will give up 30 every night.

both teams still arent going anywhere, so it isnt a big deal anyway. You guys are screwed until Reinsdorf and Paxson leave.

Brewer, those numbers don't matter on the bottom end as much because again its one of the leagues cellar dwellars.

Brad Miller, on a team with a shot will be real solid. There is a reason he was so coveted the past few months. Salmons is a solid addition. Obviously his offensive numbers were a bit inflated on a bad team but he will be a nice pickup.

I didn't like the guy, but I understand losing Noce. He is a throwback type that every team needs.

Btw, rumors are that the T-Wolves are interested in Kirk as well.

no offense, but you got the better of this trade. Salmons is only making around 5 mil, and is much better than anything you gave up. Miller will allow Ty to comfortably play the 4 by running towards the rim on cuts and oops. It was just sad that you couldn't pull Bosh. Stoudemire would have been better as well.

i saw that kirk interest by minny...what the hell are they thinking...how anyone can be interested in that stiff is beyond me...

cavs/jefferson rumors heating up again (ugggghhhh please no)

hoping that if they don't get camby/jamison/wallace that they'll grab joe smith. already knows the system and would be a great added piece

i think whoever makes a deal first (port/cle) loses a lot of leverage

be interesting to see how this plays out tomorrow

Knicks

Reports have come out that Lee is going to Portland from the NY Post. The only way that the Knicks will send Lee over their is if they take Curry, which really might just be a deal killer

Cavs

Jamison, Camby on their list

Nets

Rockets and Blazers among teams interested in Carter

Suns

Amare is staying

Raptors

Saying they still arent trading Bosh...so STFU

Joe,

I gotta give Ferry credit. With not much to use he has modeled this team, and may some more, in the past year or two to something I didn't think was possible.

Pistons eye Boozer for summer
When the Detroit Pistons sheered nearly another $1 million in salary-cap space with the trade of Alex Acker to the Los Angeles Clippers this week, GM Joe Dumars further solidified his franchise as the favorite to sign Utah Jazz forward Carlos Boozer as a free agent this summer.
The Pistons expect to have nearly $23 million available to spend this summer on free agents. Boozer has said he will likely opt out of his contract with the Jazz this summer.
Most believed that Boozer was destined for the Miami Heat, but Heat president Pat Riley chose to take on Jermaine O’Neal’s $22 million contract for the 2009-10 season. The Jazz and Boozer have grown tired of each other, and league executives believe Utah is more inclined to re-sign power forward Paul Millsap to a long-term contract.
Boozer has played just 12 games this season with a knee injury. His inability to stay on the floor has clouded teams’ opinions about him, but Boozer makes sense as the replacement for pending Pistons free agent Rasheed Wallace.

Bell yet to toll for Celtics
The Boston Celtics reached out to the Charlotte Bobcats about trading for proven playoff performer Raja Bell, a league source said. So far, the Celtics don’t have anything in return that appeals to Charlotte.
The Bobcats are telling people that they have a possible two-for-one trade percolating and need to keep a hold on a roster spot.
Boston lost guard Tony Allen to thumb surgery on Tuesday, and he could be out until the playoffs. For months, the Celtics have unsuccessfully tried to trade 2008 first-round pick J.R. Giddens for a draft choice.

up until the 3 team trade i hated ferry, and at that moment i did a complete 180 on my opinion of him. the last two deals have both been like stealing. if he can pull off a third deal with using only wally and possibly hickson...wow.

The Blazers are also taking with the Nets about Vince Carter, an Eastern Conference official said. The proposed deal now is Carter, Maurice Ager and Chris Douglas-Roberts for LaFrentz, Outlaw and Sergio Rodriguez.

Source: Ginobili injury not season-ending
The San Antonio Spurs’ delay to release any specific information about Manu Ginobili’s right ankle injury has led some opposing GMs to speculate that the injury could be serious. Delaying the announcement until after the Thursday trade deadline would help keep the Spurs from losing any leverage in their ongoing talks.

One Spurs source said the team is still waiting on additional test results. When asked whether the injury was potentially season-ending, he said, “No, not at all.”
Spurs officials publicly announced only that Ginobili won’t join them on their road trip.
Ginobili injured his left ankle in last season’s playoffs and underwent surgery in August. The injury to his right ankle, while still potentially significant, is not believed to be as serious as his previous injury.
In addition to their failed pursuit of Salmons, the Spurs expressed interest in the Nets’ Carter and the Bucks’ Jefferson. One Western Conference executive acknowledged they have little chance of landing Jefferson.
Bruce Bowen has been offered in nearly every trade discussion because he’s guaranteed only $2 million next season. Center Fabricio Oberto also has a partial guarantee of $1.9 million next season.
The Spurs didn’t announce Ginobili’s absence on their trip until Monday when they were already in New York. Though Ginobili scored 32 points in a loss to the Toronto Raptors, the Spurs’ final game before the All-Star break, team officials say he had been experiencing pain in his right ankle for a while.

Wizards discuss Jeffries
The Washington Wizards still have interest in bringing back New York Knicks forward Jared Jeffries, an Eastern Conference official said. Jeffries played for the Wizards his first four seasons in the league.

go ahead and prove me wrong paxson and anybody else who likes this deal. i fucking love to see it but it aint gonna happen. this team just sucks from Reinsdorf down to guy who washes the jerseys.

You can have Boozer.

I am well aware...

In all honesty, it is the anti-Dumars play to get a guy like this. If healthy, man would he be perfect. The one thing though, could get him pretty cheap. Although that Chandler rescind hurts us in the fact we now have more competition on the market this summer.
