the nets are in a very tough spot after the long road trip... big game here

the bulls are just hitting in all cylinders.. offensively & defensively .... not gonna be easy

continuing to fade the bricks.... The pistons have lost 4 in a row. But those 4 teams were good western conference teams. The Knicks are just bad and the frustration is building.

probably the kiss of death but on a nice little run with my 2 very large buck wild plays on saturday and 1-1 yesterday... lets see if we can start the week off strong..

Let's do it! I had a great weekend and before I press my luck I submitted a withdrawal request lol

Knicks fourth quarter? Just read at a Pistons blog

If there is such a thing as anti-clutch, the Detroit Pistons are it.

The Detroit Pistons are a bad team and are especially bad at closing out games. Detroit Bad Boys has already covered that (here and here, for example). But not only are they a bad team, they are a historically bad team in the fourth quarter.
The fact that they're a bad fourth quarter team should surprise absolutely nobody. We all have anecdotal evidence in the back of our heads. A blown lead and embarrassing loss to the <strike>underhanded</strike> undermanned Pelicans. Getting outscored 28-12 in the fourth to drop a game to the Wizards.
But now we can put some numbers and context to those awful memories.
The Pistons are currently being outscored by 3.1 points in the fourth quarter, by far the worst mark in the NBA this season ... and the prior season ... and the season before that. In fact, it is the worst fourth-quarter scoring differential since the infamous Los Angeles Clippers held the same mark in the 1999-2000 season.
That team was led by a rookie Lamar Odom and the fearsome Michael Olowokandi entering his second year; it was extremely young and built to lose. In other words, not exactly Josh Smith and Brandon Jennings making $20 million to lead a team to a playoff berth.
Not surprising when your biggest offensive weapons disappear in the fourth when things get tight and you can't run up and down the court at will (*cough* Josh Smith and Brandon Jennings *cough*) and that your most reliable offensive weapon (Greg Monroe) hardly sees the floor in the fourth quarter because the head coach(es) either don't trust the "big three" lineup or don't trust your defense.
The team is so bad in the fourth quarter that it actually masks a semblance of competence for the first three quarters of the game. The Pistons record would be significantly better if only they ended the game a little early.
If Game Ended After ....RecordPlayoff Seed

... Quarter 229-26-3No. 6
... Quarter 331-27No. 5
... Quarter 4 (and OT)23-35 No. 9

And while examining just the fourth quarter is a sort of arbitrary measurement, as you can see by the win-loss record above, it is literally when the Pistons are giving games away. And being outscored by more than three points per game in the fourth quarter is actually really hard to do. You can actually dig through the data on stats.nba.com all the way back to the 1997-98 season. In that time 532 teams have played all or part of a professional basketball season. Of those 532 teams, exactly two teams sported a worse mark than the 3.1 held by the aforementioned Pistons and Clippers, and both those teams played in the strike-shortened 1998-99 season. And even if you ratchet back the cutoff to getting outscored by 2.5-plus points in the fourth quarter only eight teams make the cut.

As you can see being a terrible fourth-quarter team isn't some parlor trick or bad luck. Historically, the worst teams every year are also in the conversation for worst team in the entire NBA. So in some ways the Pistons are a historical anomaly even within a group of historically bad NBA teams -- and that somehow makes it even worse.
And it's only gotten worse under interim head coach John Loyer. The Pistons are 2-6 since Loyer took over for the overmatched Maurice Cheeks, who was fired, in part, because owner Tom Gores didn't think he was getting the best out of the available talent and too many fourth quarter collapses.
Well, the Detroit is being outscored by 4.6 points per game under Loyer, the second-worst record in the NBA over that span. Is this season over yet?

Maybe not. Knicks last road win in the 4th quarter was 8 games ago in Milwaukee. Still will think more about this

I took Memphis tonight. They really need to win. Nene's absence will be really felt against Z-Bo and Marc Gasol and both teams have really clear ATS tendencies, when it comes to home/ road (both suck at home and play really well on the road ATS wise).

Actually Washington plays very well at home on Monday

Looking at the teams Memphis played, they probably are a very good Monday road team

Maybe not. Knicks last road win in the 4th quarter was 8 games ago in Milwaukee. Still will think more about this

i understand the frustrations with the pistons 4q's but the knicks are just as bad, maybe 4q under?

Carmelo Anthony lambasted his team's lack of effort during Sunday's loss to the Bulls, saying, "It seems like we're not even competing right now."

"As a team we've got to have some type of sense of pride just to go out there and compete," he said, after the Knicks lost for the 10th time in 12 games. "It's frustrating, it's embarrassing." Anthony studiously avoided talking about his plans in free agency ("I can't even see next year. I can't even see tomorrow at this point") but it's hard not to speculate about his future when he's openly dissatisfied with the course the Knicks have taken.

I took Memphis tonight. They really need to win. Nene's absence will be really felt against Z-Bo and Marc Gasol and both teams have really clear ATS tendencies, when it comes to home/ road (both suck at home and play really well on the road ATS wise).

This

Memphis tough at home in the short favorite role Washington always good as a dog but more so on the road then at Home. Memphis small minus or Over the 190 or both

watched that interview and melo sounded more bummed out than lambasting….like he didn't know what to do…micheal, larry or ervin would have held their teammates accountable but not sure melo has those type of parts…knicks will never ever be any good until melo learns how to play the game of basketball and i think it's too late for that….imo

Like Bulls but late decisions on some key injuries in that game. At some point today. Lots of things in the bulls favor tonight 7-4 BtB 7-3 in this type of spread and the Nets coming off a long road trip. Would like to see Noah playing.

<small class="time"> </small> NY Knicks are (22-8-1) ATS in the FIRST HALF ONLY on their second game of a Back to Back. (0 Days Rest) (73%) Last 2 years.
This trend seems very active. It failed vs GS but the effort was there. First half over?

You're right Tuck, there are number of bad trends also here, but I decided to trust Memphis here, not without hesitation though.

The thing that bothered me the most is that Memphis don't do too good as road favorites, while Wizards aren't bad as home dogs.

Still, this is huge game for Memphis, that simply must win such games, if they want to reach the playoffs and I will trust better team, with better motivation and front court advantage.

Nets in a pretty bad 'situational' spot but the Bulls are the often deadly 'popular dog'.

Pick your poison.

Scott Brooks is a dick.

'Caron Butler will be available to play on Tuesday and coach Scott Brooks said that he may replace Thabo Sefolosha as the Thunder's starting SG.'

thabo out for 4 weeks....

The Wizards are 63-34-3 ATS since Apr 09, 2012 when 'dogged'...

I'm not disagreeing with your numbers and I know that Wash and Toronto have been excellent dogs this year but mostly so on the road. I believe there 6-8 at home vs teams over 500 but 10-5 away. They actually opened as a -1 favorite in this game and I hate when they do that open a team a small favorite and then that team becomes a small dog. it seems and I know it's mostly BS and I'm remembering when it happens that the original favorite wins the game which would make Washington the play in my sick mind. Now I'm confused lol

EDIT: Interested in seeing where this number goes.

B2B for CHI and double blowout revenge for New jersey.

I'm not a revenge guy you still need the talent and Chi is 7-4 in BtB. I have to play the Bulls once I get an update. Usually I like playing a team the first game a starter is out but Noah is as good as there point guard in distributing the ball and the style the Bulls play that's needed. Thanks for the reply appreciate it

again... who's the best player melo has played ever played with?

saying melo is the problem on the knicks is an absolute joke

[h=2]KNICKS AT PISTONS, 7:30 P.M. ET[/h] March 3, 2014 · 6:30PM
TV: League Pass

  • Carrying a six-game losing streak into the game, the Knicks will make two lineup changes. Amar’e Stoudemire will make his second start of the season at power forward, with Iman Shumpert going to the bench. Shooting guard J.R. Smith will also start in place of Pablo Prigioni. Carmelo Anthony, Tyson Chandler and Raymond Felton are the other starters. Coach Mike Woodson is starting Stoudemire to combat the Pistons’ frontcourt, which includes two 6-foot-11 players in Andre Drummond and Greg Monroe along with 6-9 Josh Smith. Woodson is looking for more scoring punch from the starting unit as well, which led to the decision to start J.R. Smith.
  • The Knicks were blown out 109-90 by Chicago on Sunday and some key players, including Anthony, questioned the team’s pride and heart. Woodson said Monday night that better effort is required. “We just think we’ve got to play harder,” he said. “I’ve got to push them to understand that. When you’re in a slump and not playing well, the only way to get out of it is to play harder. Everybody’s got to play harder, we’ve got to coach harder and it’s just that simple. The last game we got hit in the mouth early and then we decided to play in the second quarter. When you’re down 16 right off the bat on the road, that’s very tough to overcome.”
  • Detroit is also floundering, having lost four straight and 7 of 8. The Pistons have allowed an average of 112.3 points the last seven games. “You’ve got to do a better job defensively, whether they’re high-scoring teams or not,” Pistons interim coach John Loyer said. “You’ve got to do a better job of not allowing layups, contesting shots and just have a better defensive stand each and every time down the floor.”
  • Pistons reserve center Josh Harrellson is inactive because of knee soreness.

I'm sorry.... amare is supposed to help combat what?

Melo has had shitty coaching. Dude needs to go to a well coached team, period.

Thibs would be ideal.

The Knicks should cut Amare. Pay him off. Get a cheap replacement that can play defense. Get a real PG. And they're in business

And keep Woodson ?

All the above and a hard-nosed, don't take shit coach = potential 'ship.

No. He's done. He needs to go to a small market team. I said from the get go he wouldn't be able to handle the ny market.
