Lockout City

whats the point of the owners meeting if Jacobs is in the room? Takes away from the purpose of fresh discussion

Couldn't help but notice Crosby's agent Pat Brisson is in hotel, along with Pens co-owner Mario Lemieux. Could Pgh be building a bridge?

Hearing that Ron Burkle has been voice of reason today. Obviously, with Crosby in room it creates a interesting dynamic.

Hearing that progress was made in the meeting. Owners expect to continue talks tonight.

if Crosby/Burkle/Lemieux/Brisson can push something they think works through, there is a chance, most powerful player and agent, and the most notable owner

lots of positive vibe tweets from reporters there...

dinner break, Dreger just said he thinks they'll reconvene

Steve Burton reported great strides had been made and the lockout was close to a resolution. He caught a lot of flack from hockey media, they might have to eat crow.

He has a source in the bruins org, he was the first on Thomas bailing for this season as well as kessel's testicular cancer

Two sides reconvene prior to board of gov meeting scheduled for 11, and will continue if things go well

same group as yesterday, hiopefully they continue down the same path...

if last time around taught us anything its that one bad move can derail things... fingers crossed

Greg Wyshynski<S>@</S>wyshynski So the owners got incredibly shit-faced in NYC last night and skipped the morning CBA talks? Is that how I should read this?

Hockey central said that some players are being told through back channels that training camp may start on the 14th if no set backs

PA made an offer, league countered today

they broke for dinner and are meeting again later

not as much optimism as last night but many guys on twitter being told the PA has told players to say nothing so they don't seem too eager to make a deal

Doug MacLean saying a few days ago that the Owners had a Dec 1 deadline to get what they want and then make a deal seems to be making more sense

I think it's done by friday, season starts on the 26th/27th

biggest news of the night was the podium... yay twitter... it even got a twitter account

sounds like the league got up to 300 mil, and 10 yrs with an 8 yr opt out... at least could give negotiations some traction

PA wants open door now, so Fehr and bettman will be back in room for today...

seems like another critical juncture... but such is negotiations... its not all roses.

now reports that owners weren't happy with yesterday and almost walked out

and not Fehr wants back in the room.....

Moderates on both sides are needed in room to push this thing through. If they are upset, that shows the precarious state of things.

Jeremy Jacobs might have been upset yesterday, but I'm told it was moderate owners who nearly ended things and that would've been bad.

the players cant have their cake and eat it too... if they try, this ends even worse than its already been

League has yet to hear from the NHLPA on meeting time. Makes you wonder when it will really start...or if it will start at all today.

The vibe has gotten progressively worse since last night...one player source tells me "things are not going well right now".

the contract thing is silly if it ends up being the breaking point

NBA has a 4 year max, 5 year if it's from your current team

NHL is offering 5, and 7

Tim Panaccio<s>@</s>tpanotchCSN Bill Daly told me the NHL has not agreed to a mediator yet and has "no idea" why a mediator is needed "at this point in time."

Fehr says complete agreement on dollars

should be finished up soon though

PA wants 8 year contract limit, NHL wants 5

Don Fehr: We hope we have an agreement on pension plan, funded out of player money. Believe agreement on transition payments.

Don Fehr: Players proposed eight-year agreement with an opt-out after year six.

Don Fehr: Remaining issues are primarily max length of player contract and variability from year to year.

Don Fehr: Players proposed max length would be eight years. Variability, seven years or longer, use existing rules plus a tweak.

Don Fehr: Have made proposals for cap benefit recapture to address circumvention. Have not discussed transition rules for system.

Don Fehr: Told owners need to discuss transition rules so they can be ironed out.

Don Fehr: "We think there is a complete agreement on dollars. Wouldn't seem to be very much reason why we shouldn't be able to conclude."
