Since the All-Star break, Florida is...

19-8 SU off a loss (11-7 SU off their last 18 losses)
5-18 SU off a win (2-14 SU off their last 16 wins)

They play Friday off a win on Wednesday.

Ever since Jason Bay got his 1st "settling-in" game for Boston out of the way, the Red Sox have scored -

12, 5, 3, 8, 8, 3, 6, 5, 5, 19, 8, 10, 1, 4, 6, 7, 6, 8, 0, 6, 7, 11, 2, 8, 8, 2, 7, 14, 5, 8, 8, 7, 3, 4 & 2 run totals

_5 totals of 0-2 runs
_5 totals of 3-4 runs
25 totals of 5+ runs (71.4%)

Boston has gone 3 straight games w/out posting at least one 5+ run total for the 1st time since Bay joined the team.

Boston is 9-2 SU off a loss since Bay joined the team (4-0 SU when facing a different team to the one they lost their previous game to).

BetCrimes or Sportsnut : A game/series of interest to me is Tex/Oak. Texas has won the previous 4 series 2-1 for a total of 8-4 vs Oak on the year. In each series this year the Rangers have won the 1st 2 games & lost the 3rd. Do either of you have any opinion on this? Thanks

cfm - no opinion from me. Bad team matchups will only interest me from here on out if there's some significant element out of the norm pointing to 1 team/total result.

Baltimore's last 23 games of offense -

3, 16, 3, 2, 11, 4, 3, 7, 3, 3, 11, 3, 9, 4, 4, 2, 4, 2, 1, 14, 1, 1 & 6 run totals.

_6 totals of 0-2 runs.
10 totals of 3-4 runs.
_7 totals of 5+ runs (30.4%)

Baltimore has now gone 24 games w/out posting consecutive 5+ run totals.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Baltimore has registered at least 1 Over result in their last 40 series.

I forsee AZ exploding on Cueto, I'd expect him to go 5-6 IP for 4-6 ERs. AZ at home is a different animal to the one that takes to the road.

AZ has averaged 6.90 runs in their last 11 home wins vs 3.27 runs in their last 11 home losses, so anticipating a home result for them comes down to extrapolating how they'll fare offensively. I don't see Cueto as a pitcher who is capable on the road of keeping down a team who was in the position Philadelphia was this past day - start winning or forgo any p.s. thoughts.

Cueto BA allowed
road .278
home .245

night .281
day .216

indoors .277 (AZ's roof should be closed)
outdoors .259

Everything about this fixture appeals to Cueto's worst BAA stats.

Since Webb has been garbage himself & Cincy's offense has been humming (scored 4+ runs in 9 of their last 11), Over is what's on my radar.

Quick Leans

Over Washington/Florida
The guy for the Nationals had a 1.42 WHIP in AAA and Olsen allowed 4+ runs 6 of his last 7 starts.

Chicago White Sox -1.5
Verlander with a career +6 ERA against the White Sox and struggling lately.

random thoughts

cliff lee definitely needs to be parlayed with someone

matt garza and chad billingsley looks cheap

any thoughts on the matt garza- sidney ponson matchup

last time matt garza pitched it was against the yanks at tampa

garza lost against mussina in his last outing
5IP 6RUNS 1BB 2K 3.64 ERA

will matt garza bounce back? sidney ponson likes to attack the damn strick zone a lot that's why he is getting whacked a lot

sidney has been inconsistent all year long, and here is what he got
125.1 IP 160 HITS 5.10 ERA

PONSON by the way has won his last two, against detroit and seatle

we all know yanks are done, and devils need this a lot, but can garza bounce back? are the yanks a bad match-up against garza?

anyone?

BetCrimes: Does that mean you like Arizona or the OVER or both? Webb is not 100% & imo would be getting time off if d-backs were not in playoff race. Based on what you are saying about Arizona offense at home & what I am thinking about Webb is the over the way to go?

Any thoughts on the Detroit and WhiteSox game Verlander has looked bad and Danks has not looked great as well. Leaning to the Over 9 in this spot.

Also Twins on the Road with Baker on the hill. Has pitched good against Baltimore in the past and at a discounted price because of being on the road. Cabrera on the mound for Balty this price seems too good to be true.

Texas ML first five has me thinking as well any thoughts on these would be appreciated.

GARZA's last start was actually against Toronto, where he held the then humming offense of the Jays to only 1 run in a 1-0 loss. He seemed to bounce back enough to allow his team a chance to win.

FWIW

I agree that cueto looks like a good punching bag for AZ, but i personally need to wait for AZ to show me that they're not going to lie down like bitches and give the division to the Dodgers. They have lost what, 7 in a row? Dodgers up like 3.5 games now... For a team to snap out of a losing streak while having been in 1st place for most of the year is a little tough. I hate betting on teams like AZ to come out of a funk as the time to "rise up" was about 4 games ago when they were in danger of being overtaken..

I also do not believe it helps that the dodgers are playing AAA lineups for their last 3 series as it only builds on the looming reality that AZ choked and is done in terms of making it to the playoffs. They are already talking about the LAD LAA playoff subway series here in LA... too soon, i agree, but not unfounded.

on another note, my other local team, the angels should not be faded very easily. I watched them yesterday with their dogged AAA lineup and these kids can play. Ignore the numbers.. Guys like Wood and Rodriguez are playing 5x better then they were the 1st call up earlier in the year. I would not be surprised one bit if the Angels sweep the M's this series. The pen is all there, and no SP sees a game as throw-away. Sciosa is trying to fortify his pitching to either a 4 or 5 man rotation and it all depends on their performance from now to playoffs. Lackey, Santana, Saunders have their spots. Garland and Weaver have to show sciosa that they can handle their own. Look for them to pitch effectively from now to the end of regular season..

i will be on pittsburgh tonight & most likely under 9.
-cards are on a huge under streak. the most STL has scored in the past 7 games was 5 runs, and they only had 6 hits in that game. so most games have been pitching duels.
-pitt is back home off a road trip and currently have lost 6 str8. they have also lost 6 straight at home (swept by the cubs and mets) they only have 2 wins in their past 13 home games actually, most games have been really low scoring.
-the pirates are favored once in a blue moon and when books do that they attract heavy money. public is pounding STL pretty hard..
-maholm is w/o question pitt's best starter and he has been great when tagged as the favorite. i think it is a favorable matchup for him tonight to end this losing streak. pitt is 10-4 in his home starts and he has a really nice ERA to go along. he's a guy who can go deep into games and pitt bullpen is actually decent w/ the exception of fucking scumbag denny bautista. they may have a 4.08 ERA but they save 77% of home games. 20 saves w/ only 6 blown saves all year. STL bullpen is only 56% 18 sv, 14 blown saves.
-STL has a losing record this year against lefties and only avg. 4 runs/game vs. them. their offense is not right/injured and this is a tough lefty.
-maholm is capable of pitching a gem and if he doesnt let pujols beat him i believe he will do so.
-i didn't comment on thompson: i think he is good, not great, and pitt should be able to scratch a couple across.

Pitt ML & Under...

mil @ phi : i am grabbing philly tonight after losing w/ the shit crewers last night. i have bet on parra a couple times in the past few weeks and i have been severely let down. i was talking last night about how good i think the brewers were against lefties avg 5.2 runs/game and so on. philly is just as good if not better, avg 5.5 runs/game. i think phils will bring heavy bats tonight, but i'm worried about taking the over because i think cole could pitch a gem and milky might only get 1-3 runs. public is pretty even split on ML but when the line is where it is, it can be called a public underdog. both these guys have more overs than unders this year and both have 10 unearned runs which is a hell of a lot and can effect o/u's. i think books thought people might be on the under with the line they set and when slightly more money came in on the over they moved the juice from the under to the over. do books think its an under or were they just surprised people caught onto taking the over w/ these solid pitchers?
BTW.. Cole Hamels is dope because his birthday is the same as mine. (December 27, two days after christmas)

I'll grab plenty of ML and prolly 1st 5 innings -.5, -1.5 philly for game.

was @ fla : florida has dominated the nats this year (10-2).
-florida has lost 9 straight games when olsen has pitched and most haven't even been tough luck losses, he just hasn't been tight.
-he gets shit run support at home this year.
-in the last 4 games, the nats have seen 3 lefties and have scored 8,8,7 runs. in the last 12 games they only have 2 games in which they had less than 10 hits.
-in those 2 games they only had 5,6 hits and were shutout (once by hamels, which is allowable; and the other was by james parr).
-florida has recently started to score again, but they are definately overvalued against a team that is actually fun to watch now. they are crazy w/ their sudden high scoring, errors, shit bullpens, back and forth battles. the line opened way too high, and it is apparent books are scared of washington bringing home the big time underdog bacon. the line has tightened around 20 cents at least. i've backed the nats a handful of times this year and every time it is scary as shit. both bullpens are gas can city, but i would say washington ML.

atl @ nym : i'll start by saying i don't think there is a snowflake chance in hell braves take this game. i wouldn't look too much into the bravo sweep, they basically just battered the apparent shitcan rockie bullpen in each game. every single thing i can think of favors the mets.
-home team has won 11 of first 12 meetings.
Pitching: Johan has a win against every major league team except for the atlanta braves. the guy has done nothing but win since the break and you know he wants to join that elite club of guys w/ a win against every team. his numbers are actually pretty damn solid against the bravos, just no w's.
-mets have seen a lefty in 4 str8 games (tonight will be the fifth) and they have gotten progressively more runs in each game. 10,13 last two nights.
-mets hitting .314 against lefties past 10 days, braves .250. mets are 31-17 against lefties this year, braves 17-26.
-braves bullpen HEAVILY overworked and are pretty much pathetic recently. mets bullpen has been almost perfect.
-there was similiar game not long when hampton went to citizens bank to take on cole hamels. hampton got rocked 4IP, 6 ER but philly won 10-9 becuz cole gave up 9 runs in one inning. philly -1.5 got burned. barring a similiar collapse by Johan i think mets should cover -1.5 EASY. if you can get it for -125 or less that is monster value. i might even lay -2.5...
-another thing i like alot is that the mets saw hampton a couple weeks ago. hampy got a quality start but the bare minimum 6 IP 3 ER. i think the mets get alot more off him tonight. the o/u is a little shady starting at 8.5 which seems low as it is and then they move it to 8? i don't see why the mets wouldn't score 6-8 runs, but maybe they think atl is only going to have 1-2??

tor @ bos : i don't what the fuck is gonna happen. these teams stump the shit outta me. i don't know how toronto can stay so hot and i dont know why boston sucks so badly at times..

FYI: Garza literally owns Toronto . Before this start he actually allowed 1 earned run in 31 + innings !

One of the more dominanting efforts vs a particular team I can recall in recent seasons. Mostly because he saw them 5x and did this . Maybe you can see a team 3x and have it spread it and own them but to me this is WOW !

He was 1 out short of avg 7.2 inn per start, he allowed 5 hits , he allowed 1 run twice the 1st and last start with 3 scoreless efforts in bewteen , he avg 1.6bbs to 5Ks .....

We know Garza has not been the same on the road though. Also he has an odd trend of struggling after scoreless outings although technically I cant apply that since he allowed 1 run.

he is the master of extremes following almsot every scoreless start with one that he allowed at least 4 runs in. We are talking 5 of 6 times and I believe the last 5 times it occurred .

Texas is sort of his step bitch after Tor as he owned them in 3 starts . He had 2 gems vs them and slightily below medicore statistical outing @ Texas that lasted just 4 innings.

Back in may balt was a team he owned as well before they really started hitting though and when he was finding his groove as I discounted April due to injuries.

Thats a huge portion of his season leaving 14 starts since May to Look at . He had 4 in IL which the 3 were very solid and another team he owned FLA. Notice alot of free swinging high K teams like Texas , Balt , Fla had issues with him. Tor doesnt fit the mold but maybe sbeing indoors is huge for him. Really most of the starts come at home but whatever road ones happened they were not good . He did beat NY early on but think there lineup was very thin as it was the time of No ARod and Posada plus a few more that day possibly...

Really IMO since that start vs KC 7/09 which was a Monday afternoon game vs Meche to sweep KC in 4 games he has being alternating good and bad . Now that start would not be classified as bad but I do recall we all had some stake in it most of us on KC that day . Watched KC battle back from and early defecit to take the lead to eventually piss away in the b9th on a solo HR to bust the under and KC eventually won in extras . He struggled that day but toed the line IMO. Whioch would mean since July 1st he had 13 starts and almost always he was alternating good and bad starts. He starts with a great start vs boston at home in July followed by that what I was term as medicore start vs KC which could have been worse vs a better lineup , followed by a bad start @ Cle and then the clear alternation 0runs , 4runs , 0runs , 4runs and then 5 the only consecutive efforts really and both poor , 0, 4 , 0 , 4 , 1 .

So while he may have some inconsistencies he really hasnt posted consecutive good starts since end of June and 1st start in July ...

It doesnt seem like a stretch to think since its not a team he has clearly owned that he will follow the pattern of less then medicore start

Now look at his game log and realize three teams he owned IMO in 2008 Fla , Texas and Balt(after May) are included in those "Grass " or outdoor starts ...which actually since he had the short outing vs Texas is 4 of the 6 starts .....

Think its 28 inn 12h 6 runs (1hr 3bb 19K last 2 starts which were 18 inn3h 1r ) and 4hrs 6bbs 24Ks in total....

Which means the other starts 6 I assume ..equal
30.2inn 51h 35r 32er 8hrs 13bb 18ks which 5 after aMay 1st @ STL , @ CLE , @ BOS , @ KC, @ SEA .....the other should be the start @ Camden where he got hurt and went on the DL

So the difference bewteen Turf to indoors and grass to outdoors comparisions is only 1 start. I assume on July 29th @ Tor when he won 3-0 and threw a CG shutout the roof was open hence part of the outdoor stats simply because thats the statistical difference bewteen the 2 so it must be that start. So its really a game in a dome still and vs a team he owned so its more fluff then anything .

Of teams he faced twice 3 of the CLe , Sea and KC hit him hard which is no suprise we see his grass -outdoor stats being bad since all three teams would be in that category .....

The pain in the ass part is 2007 he was the complete opposite but much smaller sample size as well and wel 2008 is most relevant at this point and we close the season IMO. Its funny that when we look at the 2007 breakdown its literally the complete opposite statisically as he not only pitched better away , grass on outdoors but had 3 very good road starts @ SEA , @ KC and @ CLE .....

His work @ Yankee Stadium and vs NYY is rather limited . Roughed up as rookie on Sept 3 2006 with Minny losing 10-1 . Then in 2007 his only app vs NY was his first of the year at midseason throwing 2 scoreless in relief , plus the good home start in May and recent rough one in August. To which we know best time to pitch vs NYY is April and May. There was no ABomb , Posada , While Giambi and Cano were at .177 and .188 avgs clearly slumping offensively . Next time he was good for 3 but eventually Yanks hit him with Nadys 2run Hr and Damons triple . Which Nady is basically playing for Melky another upgrade (Melky had a good April and parts of may then nada) ..

All this effort and it started raining within the last 15 minutes of typing this .....my luck it will be a wasted effort ......

Ponson really has been solid at the Stadium for the most part minus the RS who own him and the start vs Texas early on . he neat TB 2-1 at home and last 2 years has been rather effective in 3 of 4 starts facing them . Though he is a gamer he is wildcard since he pitches to contact . When he off if he cant escape jams it tends to be rather ugly and with TB playing some tough games in BOSTON alot of work for the pen but some momentum stealing 2 late @ Boston . Both had an off day . NYY after returning home vs the WC and TB off the Boston series ...

Really starting to rain hard now so this game is in doubt ...fuck me !

This is the final 10 games ever to be played at the HOUSE THAT RUTH BUILT ! I do pray that regardless of playoff scenarios and lack thereoff they give 10000% in this span and I think they will . Who doesnt know the significance of the Yankee history especially Yankee players ?

Well Yanks have sucked in series openers and was still looking to play them here as being a home dog vs TB makes no sense to me . Unlike yesterday I am just going to go with the logic they are already devaluing teams with little playoff inspiration and here inflating TB . Although hard to tell what price this should be would guess NYY -120 is fair or pen is better and stacked while our lineup is deep but usually we hit like a bad NL team anyway .

My leans were NYY and some sort over whether it be RHE , Over 10 , but probably strongest lean to over 1st 5 inn thinking Garza could hold up to his stats and Ponson is always vulnerable. TB has scored 4 ,5 ,0 , 0 ,5, 4 on this trip . The shutouts both vs LHSP and the rest started by RHSP! The other 18 runs were witness to 2 extra inn games and a comeback in the 9th in theother..actually alot of late inning heroics as the 1st extra inning game @ Tor was 3-0 tied at 3 late .
We are talking 13 and 14 inn games which produced 4 runs each ! Thats 1 really 1 extra game so essentially they have 63 inn and 18runs or what would be 3 per but even less when you see the innings ....so they arent hitting with MOB .....

TB needed a day off more then NYY coming from the WC as it had Tor then Boston litterd with extra inn games and tough games /losses . Percival is struggling ....leaving alot for Hammel , Balfour , Howell , Wheeler , Bradford and Miller to do since he cant seem to put in a good effort ....

Yanks ahd a tremendous edge historically vs TB at NY but dont think anything compared to the Fenway dominance which lasted even till now . Some sort of letdown after tough wins there ? hard to say letdown when your in a fight to hold onto 1st place for the 1st team ever but more do they get the breaks aagin in close games ?

So they have relied heavily on Balfour , Wheeler and Howell this week and you just wonder how many times they can be effective with the amount of work they are getting vs good teams ..does it catch up sometime soon......

Yanks have stumbled at home in game 1s going 9-14 and dropping 4 of last 5 but they have played TB very well past few series ...Sad NYY is 19-23 since the Fenway series where they started by taking the 1st two....

Lets see if the rainholds up another variable to worry about ......

So my leans were Yanks ML and 1st 5 over with possibilities of a game over or RHE over play .....Last 3 went over after the earlier 12 meetings were 10-2 UNDER except for 2 overs when Ian kennedy started not suprising is it ......

Kc @ cle : the ML and total will definately catch people's eye on this one. how could you not take cleveland and over 7. well, ill take the opposite. i think -200 looks cheap for cliff lee against the royals? -1.5 pays even or even plus money at some books. meche has been doing his damn thing lately with the exception of two home starts (where he's not great, and against good offenses, Tex & Min) w/o those 2 8 of his last 10 starts he hasn't given up more than two runs in a start and he's a guy who is a consistent 7 inning guy. both teams have seen the other pitcher twice in the past couple weeks, which would seem to help out the batter but i dont know if these offenses will ever figure these dope pitchers out. i might give the advantage to KC even w/ their dope hitting recently and all year against lefties. i backed KC and under yesterday and the question is do I back KC and under again at massive odds? cliff lee has burned me countless times this year so i'll be safe and take +1.5 and under. cliff outduels em 3-2 cleveland bullpen gives up one in the 9th.

ya, i was gonna leave the yankee game to you nut...

Thanks bro. I not only saved you work. I probably saved you wasted time cause unless this weather gets better would say that 60-90 minutes of research and typing is useless.......

Excellent work on the rest . Have to do some shit will be back later to catch up and comment . Imagine the NE is gonna have some shit weather today . So Boston , Mets , Balt , Philly maybe even Pitt and FLA might be best to check the weather reports before wasting time on research , writeups and followup comments.

GL as always !

min @ bal : all i can say is that i hope for a home underdog scoop here, and i think it can be done. line is tightening even tho public is definately on the twins. doesnt mean everything but interesting. an o/u of 10 tells me they think baltimore can put som runs on the board. i bet against minny yesterday and i dont feel like risking it w/ mr. walkaholic.

random thoughts

cliff lee definitely needs to be parlayed with someone

My thoughts exactly bro. Cliff Lee at home at -200 IMO is a steal and auto-play

I did something a bit unconventional and parlayed with Oregon ML (ncaaf).... @ -113

damn...wish they'd just postpone them all already lol...less stress to worry about tonight while watching the football game.
