Just first thinking, without deep reasearch:

Mets/Reds

I think I will go with Reds (if they loose today). Reds are hitting well lately -ARROYO is 3-2 when starting against NY METS with an ERA of 3.71 and a WHIP of 1.122
-MAINE is 0-2 when starting against CINCINNATI with an ERA of 10.00 and a WHIP of 2.333
also I like Arroyo here, because he is pitching well at the moment. Last 3 starts ERA 3,18

Phillies/Marlins
this is really tough play. No idea. Maybe under.

Cubs/Astros
I think like Astros here. Moehler is solid at home ERA 3,63. Lilly not that good in last games and Astros score 4,7 runs/game vs LHP. Cubs are 20-26 on the road.

Padres/Cardinals
Over 8,5 looks good. Maddux last 3 starts ERA is 6,11 and Padres will score something too against Looper. Cardinals lean as well.

Pirates/Rockies

Over and Pirates

Dodgers/DBacks
Kuroda looks good in last games also Dodgers are good vs LHP. Really don't know yet. Will see the line movement.

Brewers/Giants
Nice price on Sabathia, but Brewers vs RHP and on the road... Cain is pitching well lately...don't know.

Tigers/Orioles

I think I will go with Detroit again for plus money.

Blue Jays/Rays
I like Rays here, but a little bit too low odds.

Rangers/Twins
Definetly Twins. They are good at home vs RHP on other side Rangers could have some problems vs Perkins, who has ERA 3,15 in last 3 starts.
MILLWOOD is 0-5 when starting against MINNESOTA with an ERA of 5.86 and a WHIP of 1.796.
Big lean Twins

Royals/White Sox
WS RL only option

Red Sox/LAA
no play for me(probably). Lackey is 1-7 vs Boston.

Indians/Mariners
?

Phillies/Under-
Both pitchers do well against the other team but Moyer is the safer bet, especially at Dolphins Stadium. The Phillies should be a play of the week type of bet.

Braves RL +110
Hudson pitches great against these guys. The Braves should be fine at home against Redding. 5-1 Braves win.

Houston loves the lefties, and Moehler - forgive the phrase - is overdue to have his ass handed to himself.

have to dig deeper into this one.

Interesting lookahead to Angels' 2nd half of the season, also a good read in front of the BoSox series.

Angels are good, but are they good enough?

They have a six-game lead and are tied for the best record in baseball, but there is still concern about the postseason.
By Mike DiGiovanna, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer
July 17, 2008
Their 57-38 record at the All-Star break is impressive, as is their six-game lead over Oakland in the American League West, the largest cushion of any first-place team in baseball.

Yet, there is a sense among the Angels -- and a growing segment of their fan base that will no longer be satisfied with a mere division title -- that this team has underachieved.

* More power needed
More power needed

"We have the best record in the league and [are tied with the Chicago Cubs for the best] record in baseball," center fielder Torii Hunter said, "and our offense has barely scratched the surface of what it's capable of."

The Angels began to stir in July, batting .272 and averaging 5.7 runs after hitting .252 and averaging 3.8 runs in June. They've hit 15 home runs in 12 games this month after hitting 20 home runs in 26 games in June.

But the big picture remains murky: The Angels rank 11th in the league in average (.257) and runs (409), ninth in home runs (83) and last in doubles (145). They're 13th in walks (270), 12th in on-base percentage (.318) and 10th in slugging percentage (.388).

The pitching has been superb. Angels starters rank second in the AL with a 3.75 earned-run average, and their rotation of John Lackey, Ervin Santana, Joe Saunders, Jon Garland and Jered Weaver might be the deepest in baseball.

Francisco Rodriguez set a major league record with 38 saves before the All-Star break, and setup men Scot Shields (4-2, 3.11 ERA) and Jose Arredondo (3-0, 1.12 ERA) have been key factors in the Angels' 36-18 record in games decided by two runs or fewer.

But the big question entering the second half of 2008 remains the same as it was in 2007: Do the Angels have enough offense to beat the defending World Series champion Boston Red Sox in a playoff series?

What a coincidence: Manny Ramirez & Co. will be in Anaheim on Friday night to resume second-half play with a three-game series against the Angels.

"We still think there are areas we can improve in, and offensive continuity is one of them," General Manager Tony Reagins said. "We think we have the pieces in place to perform at a higher level. We believe this team is going to perform better in the second half."

The Angels don't need career years from their hitters. But they need more than they're getting from Vladimir Guerrero (.286, 15 homers, 50 runs batted in), Garret Anderson (.263, eight homers, 44 RBIs), Hunter (.269, 12 homers, 43 RBIs) and Gary Matthews Jr. (.235, seven homers, 34 RBIs).

"Consistency is what you look for," Reagins said. "What we're asking is for players to play to the level they're capable of. If they do that, we should be fine."

If they don't, they'll continue to put a heavy burden on the pitchers, raising another question: Will they eventually crack under such pressure?

"It definitely takes a little bit of that stress away when you get some early runs, when you know the team is hot, swinging bats well, and will come back," Garland said.

"But that won't change the approach for me. I try to put up as many zeros as I can and give the team a chance to win."

A few less zeros by the offense wouldn't hurt.

All-Stars on the mound, few stars at the plate

Biggest first-half surprise:

Ervin Santana and Joe Saunders making the All-Star team. Santana pitched so poorly in 2007 (7-14, 5.76 earned-run average) he was demoted to triple A in July. He is 11-3 with a 3.34 ERA and 122 strikeouts in 129 1/3 innings this season. Saunders entered 2008 with 33 big league starts, but the left-hander is pitching with the command and confidence of a veteran, going 12-5 with a 3.07 ERA.

Red Sox again stand in the Angels' way.

For better or worse, weekend series could be an October preview for Angels.
By Bill Shaikin, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer
7:07 PM PDT, July 17, 2008
The Boston Red Sox did not win a World Series between 1918 and 2004. But they have won twice in the past four years, and their young closer apparently considers a parade his team's rite of October.

"We're going to win six more by the time I get out of here," Jonathan Papelbon told ESPN the other day.

* Confident closer
Confident closer
* Juan Rivera is providing offense, but his defense has been spotty
Juan Rivera is providing offense, but...

Dustin Pedroia hadn't seen that on television, but he rolled his eyes when he heard about it. They have a saying around the Red Sox, if you will: Papelbon being Papelbon.

"I came up with him in the minor leagues," Pedroia said. "Anything he says really doesn't surprise me."

The Angels have the best record in the American League. The Red Sox have the second-best record. The teams open the second half facing each other, in a three-game series that starts tonight at Angel Stadium.

The Red Sox are not scheduled to visit Anaheim again this season -- unless, of course, they return in October. That would be a double shot of good news for Boston: The Sox would be back in the playoffs, against a team they own in October.

Nothing could help Papelbon back up his boast more than the Red Sox drawing the Angels in the postseason, or so history suggests. The Red Sox have won nine consecutive playoff games against the Angels, dating back to 1986, including sweeps of the division series in 2004 and 2007.

The Red Sox smoked the Angels last fall with power and pitching, and the Angels do not appear to have closed that gap. The Sox outscored the Angels, 19-4, and outhomered the Angels, 5-0, in last year's division series.

Boston leads the league in on-base percentage this year and ranks second in slugging percentage. The Angels rank 12th and 10th, respectively.

Boston has five players with more than 12 home runs, including the injured David Ortiz. The Angels have one, Vladimir Guerrero.

Call the pitching even -- the Sox have given up 363 earned runs, the Angels 362 -- and give the edge to Boston.

Not so fast, says Pedroia, the Boston second baseman. The Angels had four key offensive players -- Guerrero, Garret Anderson, Casey Kotchman and Gary Matthews Jr. -- injured or ill during last year's playoffs.

"They weren't at full strength," Pedroia said. "The Angels are a great team. They play the game the right way. They're fast. They play great defense. They pitch. They're tough.

"I know we've had success against them, but they're definitely not fun to play against."

Still, the Angels had no home runs in 99 at-bats in last October's series. Ortiz and Manny Ramirez had four home runs in 15 at-bats.

So has the power -- the balance of power -- shifted between the teams?

"Not really," Angels pitcher Joe Saunders said. "They're going to hit their home runs.

"This year, we've hit our fair share of home runs, but we seem to do the little things a little better. That's what's given us success."

Even in Boston. The Angels were 8-20 in Fenway Park over the past five seasons, playoffs included, but they won two of three there in April.

"I think that really instilled some confidence in us," Saunders said. "We've struggled at Fenway.

"But we can pitch with those guys. If we can scratch out a few runs against their pitching staff, I think we have a chance."

Twinkies 22-14 vs. RHP @ home, Rangers 4-10 vs. LHP away. (<3 RPG)
Twinkies pen 2.74 xERA L40 home ..

Leaning Cubs-Stros Over also, I'll wait to see ump.

hey, Angels, you want an improved offense? how bout this piece of Einsteinian advice -

stop fucking swinging at so many first pitches, and if someone starts you off with a ball, dont swing the fucking bat until they've proved they can throw a strike

it aint fucking rocket science, morons

signed, someone who has bet too many Angel Overs

A study in extremes, the Mets last 25 games of all-or-nothing offense in the normal 9 regulation inns -

7, 1, 3, 2, 0, 8, 15, 0, 2, 3, 1, 7, 7, 11, 2, 9, 2, 10, 7, 5, 7, 2, 3, 7 & 10 run totals.

12 totals of 0-3 runs.
_1 total of 4-6 runs.
12 totals of 7+ runs.

Still thinking. Thought I would repeat something though. I posted this here some time ago. Perkins is actually out of place in Minnesota. He is at his best on the road, in the open and in the day and does not like to pitch in Minnesota at night.

Actually I did make one bet. Probably add some rl to it. Played Shields ml. Just a wild and crazy guy.

I rarely take LAA just for the fact that they can't score runs, it's sad, I never touch LAA, SD, Wash, Oak. LAA with Lackey or Santana vs. A's is the exception. For shit's sake you can't even bet on Jake Peavy anymore.

I thought i was the only one that noticed this.. haha. Torri, matthews and vladi have some horrible plate discipline this year.. If that changes, this team is probably possibly the better then boston.

I like the Angels to represent the AL. Boston is going to find the p.s. 1 step too far this year, just as they found the 05 p.s. 1 step too far off their 04 WS win. They'll go better this time round than they did vs the CWS circa 05, but that isn't saying a lot. Their prime task this season is denying the Yanks a p.s. spot, and they'll do so by losing to Tampa when it's necessary, as well as belting the Yanks, starting with next weekends series.

dodgers know how lucky they are to basically be tied with the dbacks. I think they take advantage of the opening and win this series. Kuroda has been awesome his past few starts. im down with them at a PK.

the O's fucked me hard today, but it was my own fault for going with a strict fade of Rogers, rather than fading both pitching staffs and going with the over. I had 3 options, take the over, take the O's first 5 or take the O's. As Nut would say, i simply made the wrong decision. live and learn. Likely going to ride guthrie tomorrow, probably first 5 cuz its just not worth dealing with their bullpen. the juice is what got me to take the game today +101 vs. -105 for the 1st 5 innings. not much but it was my only bet of the day so i went with the + $. not gonna make that mistake tomorrow. altho guthrie is usually good for 7 and sherril should be available, so the pens involvement could be limited. maybe a split between 1st 5 and full 9 is the way to go.

rangers / twins total of 9 seems low. not sure if i should lock it now before it rises to 9.5 / 10. ah damnit just checked BM and its already up to 9.5 EV.

C C at -130 feels too easy.

one thing to keep in mind about the rockies is who is catching. They've finally come to their senses and given Iannetta the majority of starts, and it makes a huge difference for the offense.

In Iannetta's last 10 starts, the rocks have scrored: 8, 4, 6, 18, 12, 4, 8, 1, 0, 5 (record of 7-3)

In Torealba's last 10 starts, the rockies scored: 2, 1, 3, 3, 8, 6, 5, 3, 1, 0 (record of 2-8)

obviously its a superficial comparison, but it is still a noticable difference.

Shields -158 over Burnett?? TB in a tail spin.....I know they are normally money at home but you have Burnett coming off a fine performance against the Yanks and dont normally have a chance with a pitcher like Burnett at plus money, let alone +148..I'll bite for 3 units........

Tor +148

Marlins will get to moyer tonight.. he has been extremely successful against the fish.. the marlins clubhouse is extremely excited and ready to play tonight and get this second half going from the miami herald. total gut play for me but i just think the fish will be patient with moyer and not swing at everything

Assuming no major homer ump will be playing Texas today. Whole thing seems very silly. Millwood last 3 in Minn has gone 23 and 2/3rds innings giving up 5 runs. He is 4-2 last 6 on the road. He was losing in Minn to Santana when Santana was simply unbeatable. He is 7-3 in his last 10 starts and Texas has won their last 2 starts in Minn. Most of the noise about pens is silly. All pens are improved after the break because of rest but this is much truer for Texas as their chief problem was overwork. Texas last 10 on the road is 6-4. It is simply crazy to lay any real number vs this team with a pitcher they win with.

Can't get the TB under out of my head. Both pitchers have pitched well lately. Neither lineup scares me one bit. Thoughts? Maybe a 1st 5 under play?

TB keeps getting pounded up to -164..........Still like Burnett at +154.....I know Wells is on the DL - they get back Rios tonight.......Go Jays!

I am looking Brewers and Tigers and I like them every minute more and more.
Line drops to -120 on Brewers, what is very takeable right now IMO.
And line on Tigers is +118, what I like a lot.

Can someone convince me not to take this two picks?

"Most of the noise about pens is silly. All pens are improved after the break because of rest but this is much truer for Texas as their chief problem was overwork".

Interesting..but I think pens and how much influence they have on a game is vastly underrated..

So if tonight's game is 3-3 going into the 6th, you would rather have the Rangers available pen (4.55 ERA - 1.42 WHIP), then the Twins available pen (3.24 ERA - 1.31 WHIP). By way way, these stats do not take into account Twins Home-Away Pen splits, which would really favor the Twins @ home.

Twins O AVG 4.71 RPG on the road, 21-24
Twins O AVG 4.92 RPG home 31-18, ..
The bullpen has to equate into the 14 game difference somehow.

Of course Texas could be up 7-2 in the 9th, and it would be a moot point, and a nice call. !!

Cubs/Stros Total thoughts

I see a favoured Under. Hmm...

Moehler at home
WHIP 1.38, ERA 5.40, opp 5.66 avg runs - vs divisional opponents
WHIP 1.22, ERA 2.00, opp 2.66 avg runs - vs non-divisional opponents

Moehler's POR (all venues)
2-3, opp 5.00 runs avg - vs divisional opponents
3-1-3, opp 2.86 runs avg - vs non-divisional opponents

(50-23-10 - 54-22-4)

Lilly on the road
WHIP 1.50, ERA 5.14, opp 4.80 avg runs - vs divisional opponents
WHIP 1.23, ERA 3.13, opp 3.40 avg runs - vs non-divisional opponents

Lilly's POR (all venues)
2-3-3, opp 6.62 runs avg - vs divisional opponents
7-3-2, opp 4.50 runs avg - vs non-divisional opponents

(84-42-16 - 95-39-11)

Appreciating how well these pitchers will fare has come down to the nature of the opponent they face up to - divisional or non-divisional?

These 2 have already matched up once in HOU this season, finished w/the Cubs winning 7-2 (9.5 line). Since HOU hit lefties well (.290 on the season, .315 at home) why did they fare so badly in that game vs Lilly? maybe the fact they had just finished a 10 game road trip w/no rest, and were in a mini-slump (1-3 SU, this result being the 3rd loss) after going 11-2 SU (incl. obviously a host of road wins) had something to do with it. No such entrance into this game for them here.

Moehler has had 1 decent start out of 5 vs a divisional opponent, at home vs Saint Louis - The Cards were off a double header the night before, the 2nd game finishing w/a 10-9 scoreline. Miles & Ankiel didnt start and the Cards sleepwalked through the game (I followed it, they were awful, incl. 2 errors). His 10-1-1 to Under record as a starter is 100% pure stuff that comes out the rear of male cows.

While the Cubs road totals record is even on the season, in their last 7 road series they are 13-9-1 to Over (39.1% Unders), compared to 12-5-3 to Under their 7 series before that (60.0% Unders).

The Ump is no inertia.

Small bet for me on Over 9.5

Tampa wins this one Sword.....they are too good at home

when you bet a +154 dog and take a lead into the 7th, thats all you can ask for as you have a chance....But with the way Burnett was pitching, I didnt expect Zobrist to beat me.......Tor had their chances - lead-off guy in the 8th at second and cant get him home......Typical of my luck lately............Had the reds on Thurs and then Cordero spits it out.........
