DJ Durkin/Maryland ...

The president has at least come across as competent and remorseful in this whole thing, not sure what the local temperature is there about him Timmy. Gonna guess he'll be a casualty of all this anyway as well but that Board, good riddance as they fall off.
I think Loh is the one guy who has accepted responsibility for the University and has been forthright and compassionate to the McNair family. Unfortunately there are some other problems imo with his leadership and decision making regarding the Athletic Dept. that have occurred so I would also like to see a new president in place.

Dr. Tim, you are a good dude. This is your university and your opinions and views on this extremely unfortunate situation have been independent and objective. You cannot say that about a lot of alumni in prior controversies when those individuals blindly support their school's administration.

So much respect, in this world where so many put fandom above humanity you've been great with your insight Tim. Thank you.

The Board of Trustees failed in every regard, and caused national embarrassment for the University of MD and showed no respect or dignity for Jordan McNair and his family. You can't even script a more complete cluster fuck disaster if you tried.

The BOT are awful all around. They scapegoated Paterno by firing him then paid millions to justify their firing with a phony report, then at MSU they completely disrespected hundreds of victims and showed zero remorse and moved John Engler in as interim president, who has shown even less remorse. It baffles me how these people who are supposed to be so educated and successful make such awful decisions. Oh yeah, for money and to cover their own asses. Old boys and girls network.

The University of Maryland's police department has opened an investigation into an altercation between two football players that occurred at the end of Tuesday's practice.

Police said they reviewed camera footage and discovered video of the altercation.

Matt Barber, a senior kicker from Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, told ESPN that he needed stitches above his right eye and dislocated his right shoulder after punter Wade Lees of Melbourne, Australia, assaulted him.

The practice was the first for football coach DJ Durkin since the University System of Maryland Board of Regents reinstated him from a months-long suspension following the death of 19-year-old Terrapins lineman Jordan McNair.

Thank you guys for saying that, greatly appreciated. Obviously, I have had a vested interest in this whole unfortunate scenario being an alumni and fan of the program. There are so many unfortunate takeaways that it seems almost surreal. I read the entire report from the second commission appointed by Dr. Loh and then taken over by the Board of Regents. There are so many dysfunctional things in that report it is sickening, and really all started with the previous AD Kevin Anderson. I was never keen on his hiring in the first place, and now I know why. Anderson fostered a terrible environment within the Athletic Dept. and if you disagreed with him he would essentially freeze you out and not communicate with you anymore. This led to terrible communication and lack of teamwork and trust within the AD and degenerated lines of authority and communication. Anderson actually approved an invoice to an outside law firm to represent two student athletes (on the football team) for an accused sexual assault of another student. Can you imagine a man in his position, actually making that decision? Damon Evans assistant AD became aware of the invoice and notified Dr. Loh who ordered a cease and desist with the law firm. This led to a rift between Anderson and Evans. In my opinion, Anderson should have been fired right then for impropriety not to mention horrible judgement and misuse of funds. Instead, he ends up getting a paid 6 month sabbatical (can you imagine that) to supposedly give him time to find another job. This is where I have a problem with Loh, who should have fired him and not let the University just pick up his tab for 6 months. There was a press leak reporting Anderson had been fired (prematurely) and this may have factored in to the sabbatical decision as the University may have been concerned about a law suit or negative press re: Anderson. The handling of that incident just makes me sick, and the negatives just kept perpetuating within the AD. Loh always has supported Evans and gave him a second chance etc. after his red panty DUI episode at GA. My opinion on Evans though is that he has failed miserably with lack of oversight of the football program, and continued to allow things to operate without clear lines of communication and thwarting best practice in operations. I believe he also should have been fired, even though he was the interim as it was his responsibility to oversee the football program. The final indignities in my eyes, are the action of the board of Trustees and influential donors who (1) effectively ignored the Walters Report which reported the total lack of the training staff to follow best practice regarding heat exertion and essentially let a young man die needlessly (2) ignored the second Commission report regarding the culture of the football program and the actions of the strength and conditioning coach Rick Court. How in life can you have all this information available to you and come up with a recommendation to reinstate Durkin and reinstate the two trainers? It's absolutely mind boggling that intelligent people can be so swayed by self interest that their morality is compromised to the extent that it was. I feel terrible for the McNair family and actually saw an interview with Marty McNair the other night and I couldn't believe in light of everything he has gone through that he was as gracious, open, willing to even discuss the situation. This entire incident is just sad and despicable on so many levels and the real shame is a young man has died and he won't be coming back!
