Ben Johnson nutsack carousel 2024-2025

I don’t know if Ben Johnson will be a good HC but it seems like a worthy gamble for the bears IMO. Can he successfully get Williams to play within his offense? Going from Goff to Williams is such massive contrast. If he can get Williams to get the ball quickly and kick his bad habits, it’ll be worth it. That’s the multi million dollar question and probably determines whether he’s a franchise qb or not

Who knows if he will work out or not but hiring the best OC in the game is a gamble worth taking.

I dunno man. You have to face these guys two times a year. Definitely affects the path to playoffs. But I do see your point.
I think football is different than the other 3 major sports due to size of seasons etc ..

But I get Cubs point totally...

Fans care way more about rivalries than players and coaches do.

"Don't coach the bears, they're in our division"

"They're going to give me millions of dollars, setting my family up for life."

"Good point, see you out there Ben."
No truer words Cub

Rivalry is nothing but fan based lunacy

Bank accounts have nothing to do with any of it

Hunt basically typed out a lot of my thoughts...

Congrats to @rambler882 ....got his man ...

I never was expecting him back. After Saturday, he can kiss my ass in fact. With that being said, this is a bit of a surprise. Ben values a GM and ownership that he likes. He seemed to be a bit picky.

Poles etc just aren't what I would want to walk into.

I guess the price is right?

The team has a solid base, no doubt.

Will he regret the 3-4 bad weather games at home? Shall see.

My suspicions that he was checked out on Saturday are true, unfortunately. The fact he had staff ready and whatnot is the tell tale. These guys half assed the gameplan/prep and really did a disservice to those players and the fanbase.

I'd love to wish him luck and root for him but Saturday's "don't really care" attitude will sit with me for sometime.

Cockiness can be a very good trait, and it can bite ya in the arse as well....

Anyone would for that cash. You'd think this guy has won a few super bowls. He's become the highest paid coach in the NFL I believe.
And crazies are gonna come unglued when Brock Purdy's contract gets done. I'm happy for him.

I think a lot of it is how stupidly much the NFL yields compared to what's paid out

Call it Socialism but it's starting to work itself out. Just took a bunch of years.

I don’t know, I think when the Saints had the Payton deal out there he couldn’t stay in the division I think so there is a little to it sometimes maybe…

If Johnson checked out what was Glenn's excuse when he looked like a bad high school coach.

If I were a Lions fan I would hate Ben Johnson. I understand wanting a head coaching gig, but not being prepared for a playoff game constitutes a terrible act of betrayal, in my mind.
I would hate him for staying in the division but would have had no issue with him landing in Jacksonville. The Lions should really save their hate for Glenn who cost them a chance of winning a championship by being the incompetent coach that he is.

Ill disagree with Detroit guys a little here. I dont think he checked out per se. Was he balancing 2 priorities within league rules. Yes. Obviously you prefer just 1. But they scored 31 despite 5 TO. Not his fault on the 1 int (pick 6 I think) that Goff didn't take a wide open 7 yard check down. The WR pass was idiotic call but I bet they've told that WR a dozen times to throw it out of bounds if not wide open. Again I don't think Washington punted so to me it was 75% defense lost game.
As for Chicago id guess it's almost certainly $$ last year maybe Washington offered him 6m and Chicago giving him 13m?? Big difference that most of us would probably take. Unless u know all the facts and $$ involved u don't really know.
He's no sure thing. Detroit is so loaded on offense who knows. But watching them I think he was #1 candidate. Watching that game reminded me of my old SD Charger Air Coryell days where pour Dan Fouts had to score 35 just to have a chance. Other team has to punt once in awhile. Id chalk it up to defense injuries caught up with them. Factor every year in nfl.

He's got his work cut out for him with Caleb.

This. He will either move on quickly from Caleb or he will be just another fired coach within a couple/few years. Caleb isn’t the answer, but there’s little chance the Bears set themselves up for the inevitable when he flames out.

Jamo isn't the guy to be making decisions on that play.

They also were shredding Washington via the run and went away in 10 points deficits.

Good news for the Aaron Glenn fans of the world. He wants to hire a guy from the 49ers as his DC... Steve Wilks who volunteers for the Charlotte 49ers.

yeah I don't disagree at all but he's still an NFL player and needs to throw it away, which I thought he was doing when I watched it live. I played CBB so I was coached a lot. I have to think in practice that they hammered into him to throw it away if not there - if they didn't it's coaching malpractice. But I previously said trick plays don't work late in games when multiple scores behind. It was a dumb call.

Well said. I think the Lions fans need to take a step back, he was objectively an incredible OC for the past three seasons

Absolutely he was.

We loved him.

Both coordinators and many other staffers were not prepared for the game is all... As well as they should have been for a major playoff game ...

As far as the Bears decision, just puzzling with what he turned down previously and also his words about GM and Ownership apparently was just talk. That's all.

We've discussed all season whether he will be a great coach. We just don't know. I think he has the talent for sure. He is going to a solid roster situation.

Should be interesting.

Agree on most.

Jamo isn't the guy I want making a split second decision like that. I like the guy, but he's not the sharpest one around.

Maybe that's why they just signed Ronnie Bell ;)

Speaking of not being the sharpest one around the partnership between Glenn/Newmark and Woody will be fascinating. This could be the time for a remake of the three stooges.

One coordinator had an off night and still put up 31 points while the other has been a joke since day one.

The Bears went all in and landed the top OC in the game while the Jets are tripping over themselves for the village idiot. This is a fitting ending for me with this team. I'm hoping to get a win total of 7 to bet the under but I'll settle for 6.
