2017 Early Lines

Watched the USCe spring game this afternoon:

Nobody in the country is going to be able to stop Bentley to Edwards up top. They just abused anybody and everybody that lined up against them today. Bentley looked outstanding - great poise, much more athletic in pocket than credited for, great accuracy and demonstrated ability to work progressions and topped off with elite arm talent. He and Edwards look to be the next duo from the state of South Carolina to go in 1st round like Watson and Williams. The OL was my biggest question mark for USCe as they were TERRIBLE last season - they looked very, very good. Now, I'm entirely open to the idea that could have been in part due to the USCe DL and how they aren't a good group but they actually appeared organized and mean in the run game. UNC RB transfer, Ty'Son Williams, has been the talk of camp and he didn't disappoint. He is elite laterally and if he gets the edge he has home run speed. He had 11 carries for 84 yards and a TD in the 1H. To make things even scarier on opposing defenses, Projected top 10 players at their positions, WR Debo Samuel and TE Hayden Hurst didn't even play today. I could go on and on about the other weapons that USCe has in the pass game but I'll save that love fest for another day. The downside for them is going to be defense. They get ILB Skai Moore back, whom I love, but the DL looked toothless with little to no depth and an already thin secondary almost had a real costly injury to King at safety after colliding with the mountain of a man, Bryan Edwards. Two defenders in secondary showed well today, Fenton and Freshman S Jaylin Dickerson who was criminally under rated as a recruit. USCe has two new specialists this year, the punter was really solid and while the kicker was a bit inaccurate he has an NFL+ leg - he banged one off the very top of the net from 50 that would have been fine from 65. One of my favorite recruits from this past class is Budda Baker and Ty Mathieu clone, Jamyest Williams, will arrive as help in the secondary but he won't enroll early. Don't look now but USCe and UF may have two of the better offenses in the SEC. If it's not obvious I love these skill guys they have.

It was either take a nap or watch Sparty spring game...so here I am...

Looks like a solid 10,000 showed up:biggestfan:

And Harbaugh refuses to release a roster for the Spring game. His antics are amusing but he better win something soon or they're gonna become tiring

haha I'm not trolling but refusing to release the spring game roster is just weird. He's a great coach and will likely take Michigan to great places but he's a fucking oddball

Where was this talk when Mike Dantonio wasn't releasing shit this spring up in Rape Lansing?

I didn't see it b/c Michigan St isn't covered as much but still an oddball move. I only saw it about Harbaugh b/c I follow Nick Baumgarner on twitter and he was talking about it. I guess the whole state is full of weirdos

Yeah Sparty had a full media blackout the entire spring.

Very odd esp considering their horrible season. I guess Mark thinks it was the medias fault

Nothing to do with 3-9...

Just with the Sex Assault case plus numerous other incidents this winter. Then some other suspensions not talked about and AFTER the spring game another sex assault case came up this past week.

He wouldn't talk for a few months.

I hope Harris does well at UNC. He has skills....no leadership and no brains though.
good kid though, and I wish him the best and maybe he can play in the NFL as a something or other.

What's the offense look like

Looked really good. Buechele looked very comfortable running it. There were lot of guys running open against the 2's/3s in secondary but he hit them and they have a ton of huge WR. I think a minimum of 6 contributors next year that will be at least 6'3. Collin Johnson staked his flag in the ground as a player to watch in big 12 and nationally, 6'6 WR that is nimble and has great hands. One of more impressive WR I've watch this fall out of 20 or so games so far. Defense could be one of the most improved units in all of CFB. Only had 1 scholly RB healthy, True Frosh Toneil Carter and he looked really good - I never thought highly of him as a recruit. Top 20 team this year - natty contender in 18 and 19.

huh?

B12?

The more I look at it the more I see some value on UGA at 40-1. IMO they have the most talent in the East, they don't have a terrible draw from the West and their two most important contributors (HC and QB) are now in year 2 of the program. They need to win in Knoxville and in Jacksonville. If they do that and split on the road against ND and Auburn then they're very likely playing in the SEC title game with 1-loss.

My issues is that I don't trust their offensive staff to maximize their offensive talent. I live about an hour away from Athens, surrounded by UGA folks, and I've heard that Frohm has had an impact on teaching Eason to watch film. That tells me two things: Eason isn't the most focused person in the world and their offensive staff isn't exactly elite. Again that's all rumor but it's from UGA fans so not sure why they would make that up. I certainly don't think UGA wins the title but I could definitely see them playing for a spot in the playoff come championship weekend

https://athlonsports.com/college-fo...ring-1-130-starting-quarterback-rankings-2017

I respect anyone's work who attempts to undertake as extensive a list as this - I've learned in doing my own positional rankings it's hard as hell if you really spend time thinking about and working on it. That being said - there are some guys ranked towards the bottom that I think are way off:

118. Keon Howard, Southern Miss
116. Gardner Minshew, East Carolina
115. David Cornwell, Nevada
99. De’Andre Johnson, FAU
97. Dallas Davis, South Alabama
96. Conner Manning, Georgia State
76. Drew Barker, Kentucky
68. Andrew Ford, UMass

Those are all guys that I think can be top half of the table QB this season. Manning, Barker and Ford are all NFL potential players - esp my boy Ford.

Like to see the love for 3 of my dudes in a row:

24. Jake Bentley, South Carolina
23. Shea Patterson, Ole Miss
22. Justin Herbert, Oregon

I know you'll agree with me on this, duds - Jalen Hurts ahead of Austin Allen is criminal

Dook's graduated QB transferred to ECU for his fun year of QB'ing so he'll be starting over Minshew. Wasn't the case when you posted this, though.

Week 1:
Colorado St +6.5/7-120 v. Colorado (N)
Florida +6 v. Michigan (N)
USCe +7.5 -120 v. NC State (N)
GT +6 -120 v. Tennessee (N)

Haven't been doing the same spring write-ups on here. I've watched and reviewed about 35 games so far but been more active on twitter with my thoughts and less on here. Doing some fantasy football writing now. Will prob be around more after draft - hope everybody had good Easter :cheers3:

Got some more action in:

South Carolina to win SEC +8000 (.05 unit)
Duke to win ACC +5500 (.05 unit)
Memphis to win Nat'l Title +10000 (.05 unit)

Michigan Under 10 wins -175 (1.5 units)
Duke Over 5.5 wins -115 (1 unit)
NC State Over 7.5 wins -120 (1 unit)
Wisconsin Over 9.5 wins -125 (1 unit)

Give me your game by game W/L for both the bigten bets. Just interested for notes comparison.

Wisconsin:

Utah St: W
FAU: W
@BYU: W (Why would any team ever schedule this game? only bad can come of Provo trips)
BYE
NW: W
@Neb: W
Purdue: W
Maryland: W
@Illinois: W
@Indiana: W
Iowa: W
Michigan: W
@Minn: W

Final 3 games are prob the toughest. I think Michigan should be a team that gets better as year goes on and maybe Peters wins job by then too. If Minn can stay healthy, specifically on the OL, that's a funky little trophy game to finish. I think Wisconsin has a very good chance of making playoff. I favor them in all 12, as of now.

Michigan:

Florida(N): L
Cinci: W
AFA: W
@Purdue: W
BYE
Mich St: W
@Indiana: W
@Penn St: L
Rutgers: W
Minnesota: W
@Maryland: W
@Wisconsin: L
Ohio St: L

I think even if you win the opener, and I am doubtful, there are only 9 wins left. Like I said before, team should get better as year progresses so maybe that means a win against Wisconsin but I think beating tOSU this year is highly unlikely. I watched the tOSU and Mich spring games back to back and there is a major gulf in where these teams are at and I think tOSU should improve a lot through year, particularly on the back end defensively and the downfield passing game appears to be much better, as much as it can be with Barrett under center. Speaking of "bring in the backup", Dwayne Haskins is going be a beast - I'm so pumped for him. Think he and Peters will have a couple nice duels in 18/19

How in the ever living fuck is Scary gonna win the SEC?
i assume this bet is you think they can be sneaky and win the SEC LEAST and get some hedge bet in the ship game, maybe?

i totally think they can win the East.....FLA always tough, but they just aren't recruiting like they used to. I assume they go with Franks at QB(who I liked a bunch coming out HS.....concerning he couldn't beat out those other scrubs last year, even as a true frosh)

Tenny should have some talent in some places, WR and elsewhere but the coach sucks and he could get aced mid year.
UGA.....ehhhh..things are on the up, but not this year

how is Vandy? And UK could do some
work this year, yea?

USCe: I think if they are good enough to win the East they will have a shot against Bama/LSU/Auburn but in all reality it would likely be a scenario where I would strongly consider hedging.

FLA: Ya, Franks will be the guy. If you remember him in the 2016 spring game, 3 of his first 4 passes were INT's and he finished like 5-11. He was not good. Fast forward to this spring game and he really looked like the guy I though he would be coming out. Ideal size, moves better than he should being as big as he is and has massive arm. Will likely have some growing pains and will need to tighten up accuracy stuff but he looks like a good one for them.

Tenny has some talent. I think they have two really talented QB, talent on the OL, John Kelly at RB is a dark horse to win SEC rushing title and Ty Chandler is supposed to be the truth as TrFr. Jennings will be alpha outside and Wolf can catch passes. Talent in middle and back end of the defense but lotta questions for me on the DL. I've actually warmed up to Tenny some the more I've watched and read but I don't think they will win SECE.

UGA should win it. Defense will be nails, everybody but Mo Smith on D is back and they are recruiting much better since Smart took over. They have a TrFr safety, LeCounte, who I think is a star in the making. Two NFL QBs, 5 NFL RB, big time NFL TE, at least 2 NFL WR - I think Wims is finally gonna breakout as a senior and TrFr Holloman is gonna be a star. Both of them looked great in spring game. They gotta get functional OL play, they were so bad LY. Defense should be good enough that if they just hand it off to any of the horses and complete 12-15 balls a game they can be really good. Tough OOC slate but only true roadies in conf are at Tenn and Auburn which is cross division. I can't wait till they play Notre Dame Week 2 that will be really fun.

Vandy is Vandy.

Kentucky has some sleeper potential. Benny Snell is one of my fav RB in CFB and King and the new guy Rose make up a really diversely skilled backfield. They are long and athletic in the secondary on defense and have couple NFL LB. I thin in order for them to really be a true dark horse Drew Barker needs to win the QB job and stay healthy. Johnson is a decent fill-in but they have some nice perimeter options, esp newcomers Bowden and Thomas and have few guys back from LY that were productive. I think they make a bowl again.

Was able to get them with local but he made me pay price, -120. I could wait for offshore and maybe get -110 but elected not to on these.

Also, made my biggest week 1 bet so far on what has to be the most asinine line ever created. That's coming from a guy who is very high on Umass.

Coastal Carolina +31 v. UMass (5 units)

USC -12 vs Texas seems rather large.

What's Herman's record as a dog vs ranked teams again?

Some knowledgeable UT folks on this board...anyone wanna weigh in?

Not a UT guy but.. 13-1 since 2011, 11-0 since 2012 if you count his time as OC or 5-0 as OC.

Andrews is a PSU guy. Can't help but think that influenced some of his lines at least a little bit.

Good point. I was def surprised by that Pitt number and Michigan also. I was really tempted to take the 14 w Mich. I would in a heart beat if I knew Peters would be starting by then.
