not really surprised with UCLA recruiting success so far, had a very good year, jim mora is a nfl coach who can get them ready, usc has a coach no one really respects, and the weather/girls/education are all way above average. its awesome to see. hopefully mora stays a while there.

Conference Re-alignment has been the talk of the college football world for the last couple of years and it looks like it has no end in sight. Even for someone like me who routinely works 100 hours a week during football and magazine seasons, it can be tough keeping up on who will be playing where in the future.
With the recent announcements of the Mountain West welcoming back Boise St and San Diego St and splitting up into divisions and also Middle Tennessee and Florida Atlantic moving to CUSA this upcoming year, it looks like we are finally set for the upcoming season.
Naturally there will be even more changes coming in 2014 with Maryland and Rutgers moving to the Big 10 and also Louisville going to the ACC, but I will not tackle those until a future blog that will look at what college football conferences have looked like in the past 25 years and what they will look like in future years.
As of today, here are what the college conferences will look like for 2013.

Notes:
- With the additions of Georgia St and Old Dominion, there will now be a record 126 teams playing FBS football in 2013, which means more pages in Phil Steele’s 2013 College Football Preview!
- A total of 19 teams will be either jumping up to the FBS level or playing in a new conference in 2013.
- Six conferences counting the independents will be affected with next year’s conference realignment.
- There will be a record seven conference championship games next year with the Mountain West going to 12 teams and playing their conference championship game at the highest ranked BCS team.
- Of all the realignment changes for 2013, the Mountain West clearly makes the most sense with Boise St and San Diego St remaining in the conference and the additions of Utah St and San Jose St. Their division names and splits also make perfect sense with the six teams in the Mountain division all being in the mountain time zone and the six Western Division teams all being in the pacific time zone with the exception of Hawaii.
- The three conferences with the most realignment changes are the Big East, CUSA and the Sun Belt and I’m not sure I can make a strong case for any of those conferences coming out as winners in the recent realignment shakeup.
- There will be seven independents next year with Idaho and New Mexico St not having a conference (the WAC now defunct) and Old Dominion will play their first year at the FBS level as an independent before moving on to CUSA in 2014. The seven independents represent the most since 2001.
- Finally, with the additions of Maryland and Rutgers in 2014, the Big 10 should redo and rename their divisions and put Ohio St, Michigan, Penn St, Indiana, Purdue Maryland and Rutgers in one division and Nebraska, Wisconsin, Michigan St, Iowa, Minnesota, Northwestern and Illinois in the other.
Make sure you are checking out the Team Pages on Phil Steele.com where we have all the teams in there 2013 order which will start getting you prepped for the 2013 season, which will be here before we know it.

WTF, Gators? Since when is student actually a valid part of a big time SEC football recruit's "student"-athlete status?

<s>@</s>ZachAbolverdi LB James Hearns no longer part of <s>#</s>Gators class. DC Durkin called him said <s>#</s>UF can't take him because of his grades.

<s>@</s>DerekTysonESPN Hearns is at least the 3rd player UF has parted ways w/ this year because of grades. Obvious they don't want another Dante Phillips situation.

UF needs to institute the Tarheel Method of higher learning for their stud recruits...no worrying about grades then, baby. :)

no one in the SEC can get that kid committed.

Many don't know that the PAC12 has easier admission standards than the SEC for JUCO kids.

There are a lot of JUCO kids that don't have the extra math class that prevents them from playing in the SEC.

Yet they have no problem getting in to a P12 school.

Thats more recruiting than Lawing did the last 2 years.

Excellent coach though. Develops talent very well. Seems UF needs help with that since they've done a pretty good job of wasting their DL talent. :hello:

LOL. They HAD the grades to get in to school via the ACC. Keeping them eligible, I guess, was another story. You have to admit it is pretty sad when a student-athlete can't make the grades to get into a SEC school.

Be wary CG, be very wary....

<s>@</s>ZachAbolverdi RT “<s>@</s>RyanBartow: Florida went by Greensboro (NC) Dudley to see 2014 LB Chris Register this afternoon” <s>#</s>Gators

We nationwide, baby...

The Heels have to qualify that Coastal Division banner again (they will) this year in order to start building that mythical wall around the state. All hinges on Fedora sticking around and staying committed to the school. Only time will tell. Many of us believe that it is not a pipe dream and he will help in pushing us over the top. It starts Labor Day weekend in ColOmbia. But you cannot blame the HS recruits on where they wanna play until this happens.

Most schools, use the NCAA minimum for athletes. The kid that can't get into an ACC school is not getting into an SEC school unless its Ole Miss.

I'm very interested to see how the ACC handles how Louisville operates.

Technically it is a case by case basis per the school and the SEC schools do more of the "minimum" than the ACC does. If your bottom line is only about winning or doing everything you can to be competitive, there is nothing wrong with it. Fact is, the SEC is living in more of a reality.

Louisville, my guess, will have to bring it in a little. At least get on the same plain as Free Shoes and Clemson.

Appreciate you not taking offense to my little jab earlier...and your attitude is actually refreshing. (Hell, I'm almost inclined to root for a Tarheel FB rebirth.)

I'm the first to admit that we overly indulge our wealthy alumni for one reason: $EC...$EC...$EC

Lorenzo Carter (Norcross, Ga./Norcoss),the nation's top weakside defensive end prospect in his class, says the hiring of Adams helps the Gamecocks' chances.
"He was the one that was recruiting me at North Carolina, so when he came to South Carolina that was huge," Carter says. "Me and him talk a lot. We talked about him making that move to South Carolina. It's just a better chance for him. He'll be playing Georgias and Floridas instead of Virginias and stuff. That move was major, because he was at UNC and I really liked him, but I don't know if I was going to look at UNC as much as I'll look at South Carolina."

Sounds like Spurrier was enjoying himself today at the Hoops game:

Spurrier was meeting reporters today to talk about the Gamecocks’ new defensive line coach, Deke Adams (Spurrier also took a nice parting shot at former D-line coach Brad Lawing, who left for Florida). That’s when Spurrier asked those in attendance if they could name all the college football teams with 11 wins in each of the past two seasons. South Carolina, obviously, was one, along with Alabama, Oregon and Stanford.

Two reporters got the question right, so Spurrier reached into his coat pocket and pulled out two envelopes containing $100 bills and handed it to them before walking away. The two reporters looked inside to find a $100 bill.

2 reasons Treadwell chose Ole Miss?

Got to hand it to Hugh Freeze though. The way that staff is recruiting is unbelievable. They hosted 4 of the top 20 players in the country this weekend.

You may very well be correct. He's on his official at UGA this weekend. I have felt for a long time that he ends up at UGA too, but now I think he's leaning Alabama. This one is really too close to call, but as of right now, I predict Alabama. Tunsil and Alabama commit Derrick Henry are pretty good friends, and both said they wanted to play together in the early stages of the recruiting season. I think that may sway him to Alabama.

It's hard to know what Robert Foster is thinking from one minute to the next, but I'm pretty confident he's all Alabama right now.

I think Von Bell & Dee Liner are pretty much done deals.

I still feel very confident in Von Bell & Dee Liner, but my confidence in Laremy Tunsil and Reuben Foster has waned. After Tunsil's Georgia visit, I think UGA is the team to beat for his services. Foster is still as unpredictable as always, but I feel like the last school to get in his ear will prevail, and that school appears to be Auburn.

Foster is all barn and Tunsil all UGA.

Although if any team is going to steal Tunsil, its Ole Miss - not Bama. Tunsil is supposed to room with Ramsey at UGA.

I think Tunsil is more of a lock than Foster. I think ultimately playing time will be the deciding factor for Tunsil. Even though this is a position of need for Alabama, I don't think that Tunsil has a credible shot of getting on the field next season at Alabama. He will likely be a day 1 starter a UGA. I don't think Ole Miss is a serious player for Tunsil.

Foster was committed to Alabama for a year before switching to Auburn. I think he prefers Alabama at this point, but outside factors and the fact that Auburn will be the last school to pitch him will ultimately convince him to stick with Auburn.

"I think it's a trip for him to kind of get away from everything right now," Bone said. "Reuben's a guy that's got so much pressure on him, especially from the SEC schools like Auburn, Alabama and Georgia. Those have really been the three main schools honestly in the last two years that have really been the main ones recruiting him and he's been interested in. He's taken visits to Alabama and Georgia already and he's visiting Auburn this weekend.

On Fosters OV to SDST

Good for him...Great place to take an OV

Saw that. It'll probably do him some good to get away for a little while. Nevertheless, I still think he ends up at Auburn.

Foster tidbits:

1. He moved from the state of Georgia to Auburn.

2. Soon afterwards his mom finds a job in Auburn.

3. Foster then decommits from Alabama, and commits to Auburn.

4. He gets an Auburn tat on his arm.

5. Foster saved his last OV for Auburn.

I'll go out on a limb here and project him to sign with Auburn.

As far as Alabama is concerned, all bets are off. Right now I have no clue how this class will finish. This the most unpredictable year for Alabama in a very long time. Right now there are 17 prospects vying for probably 5-7 spots.

Eddie Jackson to Bama.....still hope for osu on bell

I think Jackson's committment pretty much seals Bell's fate. Alabama does't have room to take committments from 2 DBs. It seems that Saban liked Jackson more. As I posted earlier in this thread, CB is a position of need for Alabama . . . safety is not. Jackson is a pure CB prospect, while Bell is more of a CB/Safety hybrid.

Dee Liner and Alvin Kamara also appear to headed to Alabama. Beyond that I honestly have no clue. Two dark horses to watch are Eddie Vanderdoes and A'Shawn Robinson. Both seem to be enamoured with Alabama right now. Reuben Foster and Laremy Tunsil will both remain coin flips up until NSD, although ultimately I don't think either end up at Alabama.

Claim it wasn't but I think it was. UM has been at his house non stop so something up. I guess he has a lot of friends at bama

Lotta smoke on poggi flipping to sabans

I don't think there is any doubt that Poggi and his father prefer Alabama at this point, but there are too many guys ahead of him who will have to say "no" before there is room to take him. I think he definitely ends up at Michigan.

I will make three shocking NSD predictions:

*** A’Shawn Robinson to Alabama

*** Eddie Vanderdoes to Alabama

. . . and the biggest shocker of them all

*** Robert Nkemdiche to LSU

CG- When is UNC putting up this fence around NC?

North, a 6-foot-3, 210-pound wide receiver from Charlotte (N.C.) Mallard Creek, had been down to two finalists -- UNC and Tennessee. However, according to multiple sources, North canceled his in-home visit with Larry Fedora and Gunter Brewer, which was scheduled for Thursday, and informed the Tar Heels coaching staff that he is no longer considering UNC.
Tennessee’s potential for playing time has been a major attraction for North, which he expressed in multiple interviews. The Volenteers have lost their top four receivers (Justin Hunter, Cordarrelle Patterson, Zach Rogers, and Mychal Rivera) from 2012 to either graduation or the NFL Draft.

you really believe that?

Yes. If I didn't, I wouldn't have posted it.

I have a pretty good source close to Foster, and he confirms how conflicted he is. Nothing he does would surprise me including going to San Diego State. I personally think Auburn is the team to beat for the reasons previously stated, but anyone who claims to know where Foster is going is lying. That I can tell you for sure.

I don't have any sources with Tunsil, but with him holding off his announcement until NSD, I think it's a close enough race between Alabama and Georgia that it could still fall either way. Both teams are pretty much neck-and-neck in every respect except playing time. For that reason I favor Georgia because I think the Bulldogs are the path of least resistance.

In terms of Alabama recruiting, I would be shock if Alabama got both guys. I would not be at all shoocked if Alabama got one or the other, or neither.
