Week 9 in the FCS

Yale has the ball near midfield with 1:20 left and three timeouts

They kneel out the half

Why do I torture myself by watching this garbage?

Sluka doesn't start for Holy Cross

Getting tired of this crap that no one can no the QB status until after the game starts

And the line climbed little by little all morning, closed at 10 without Sluka. This back up QB is better passer though it looks

Georgetown's QB is out today too, and the line moved towards them before the game. Nobody knows

What is weird today is that MGM and DK have been ahead of BOL and Bovada on releasing games. MGM currently has 25 games up. BOL had 13 and Bovada has 12

Holy Cross defense has been a no show all year.

Today they threw in the towel.

There is some kind of adage in sports about not betting against the injuries, or just because a player is out don't overreact and bet the other side or don't change your opinion.

Well, in FCS we don't have a chance to overreact or second guess because every week there are players out, the lines I'm pretty sure have never reflected the ones that I have found out about after the games have started. So in a way maybe that is good because it doesn't allow the overreaction or the second guessing.

Georgetown QB was out today. They still covered the opening number. The line went down so nobody knew he was out.
Holy Cross QB was out today. They still put up half a hundred without him. The line went up for HC so nobody knew he was out.
Saint Francis QB was out today. They still won. The line ticked up on SFU so nobody knew he was out.
Bucknell QB returned today. They won. There was some slight movement towards them so I don't know if anyone knew he was back or not.

There are probably others. It happens every week. I mean, I think I would like to know these things, but I actually don't like the second guessing it creates for me and then the line moves and how does that get reassessed? The lack of information around on the FCS is something I actually like. It keeps decisions kind of simple and clean. Final results aren't effected as much as it would seem.

Favorites 26 - Dogs 26 with 11 upsets and two jakes

Duquesne moves to 4-0 in the NEC, they've never been 5-0 since joining the league. Sacred Heart cross midfield twice.

Stonehill scored a 65y TD on the first play of the game and led 14-0, but Wagner scored 28 of the next 31 pts aided by a pick-six.

How does Howard only score 17 pts on Delaware State? Two of their scoring drives for 10 pts took a combined 14 minutes, they were also SOD at the DSU 22 and punted from the DSU 34 on 4th-2 - ie, "they do bonehead things". DSU was actually in position to tie late, but threw INT at the 1

Robert Morris flipped to favored by kickoff, that was the wrong move. Tenn Tech led 21-0 and won 38-13 scoring THREE defensive TDs!

Yale had 21 pts at halftime, Columbia had 56 yards.

Lafayette is off to their best start since 2009. Depending on the line, Lafayette dropped their first game this year ATS (if 11-10.5). It took Georgetown to get in the back door to do it on a 4th down TD with 2:10 left. Hoya's started with an onside kick that went out of bounds. Sr QB Danny Lauter passed for 428y in his first ever start.

Merrimack led 21-6 entering the 4Q. St Francis came back to win 28-21. In the comeback, SFU scored on a 17y drive following a blk'd punt with a 4th down trick play TD and also got a 71y TD to take the lead with under 6min left. Merrimack drove to the SF04 but were SOD in the final minute. rFr QB Nick Whitfield led the comeback after getting his first career start in place of 2022 NEC O POY Cole Doyle (concussion).

Holy Cross also started a new QB, Joe Pesansky first start who passed for 337 and 3 TDs in place of all-everything Matthew Sluka. There were 9 lead changes. With HC up by 1, they got a 68y pick-six with 5min left in the 4Q. Fordham missed an xpt in the 1Q. That came back to haunt them as they scored a TD with :54 left but had to go for 2 to tie and failed. HC recoverd the onside kick.

Bucknell scores their most points in 20 years (49) and gains the second most yards (593) in program history!

Drake is 5-0 in the Pioneer League!

Valpo-Butler was scoreless at HT! There were four missed/blk'd FGs in the 1H between both teams! Butler wins by 10

Albany led Maine 10-7 when they got a 68y fumble return TD to make it 17-7, but Maine came back 17-14. 24-14 HT. 30-14, 37-14. Maine threw INT at the UA01, but they got the ball back and made it 37-21 early 4Q. Albany will kill all but the final :12 ending a drive the M01. Maine was -3 TOs, but Albany did outgain them 473-312 (7.6-4.7).

Cornell outgained Princeton 350-323 although 52 of the yards were against a prevent D on the last possession of the game. Cornell had some more sustained drives; Princeton's scores were on a 77y and 33y TD pass-catch. Princeton was never in the RZ, Cornell was twice and came away with just 3 pts.

William and Mary blk'd a would-be game tying 27y FG with just :08 to beat Monmouth. Second straight week Monmouth found themselves in a HT hole, but found back in the 2H at both Elon and W&M. This week they took a 28-24 4Q lead after 45y and 75y Jaden Shirden TD runs. But W&M retook the lead with 6min to go. Breaking news, W&M scored 4 TDs on 4 RZ trips and QB Darius Wilson passed for career high 283y.

Northern Iowa - Illinois State scored 35 pts in the 1H, just 10 pts in the 2H. Illinois St didn't have a lot of O in the 2H, UNI could've scored more, they threw an INT at the IL24, missed a FG from the 17 and made a FG from the 14.

Four of New Hampshires last five games have come down to late 4Q or OT finishes and UNH has only came away with victory in one of those games. Each team now has 4 losses, UNH's losses have come by a total of 16 pts. UNH had nearly a 100y edge URI had a (7.5-6.5 ypp edge though). RZ scoring has been a problem for UNH in other losses and it bit them again, just 3 TDs on 7 RZ trips this week. SOD at the RI10 to open the game and missed FGs on their last two possessions.

Delaware just keeps beating down everyone in front of them. Delaware believed they had two starting caliber QBs at the start of the year, that has proven true with Zach Marker starting the last two after #1 Ryan O'Connor was injured vs NC A&T. Marker completed his first 16 passes vs Towson. Delaware HC Canty rarely discloses specifics on injuries so the details and availability of O'Connor and now Marker may not be known.

VMI outgained Chattanooga 440-356. Keydets missed the game tying xpt with 3:30 left and UTC ran out the clock. Each team missed a FG and each team converted a turnover into pts....VMI a short field FG, UTC a short field TD.

Gardner Webb has been attempting a lot of 4th downs lately...just 2-of-5 in the loss at AP, 4-of-6 in the win vs EKU and vs UTM they went 5-for-5 on 4th down - all 5 conversions came on two TD drives with three of them on the game winning drive. GW took a 7-3 lead 1Q and would lead the entire game until UTM went up 34-31 4th Q. GW took over with under 6min left and went on a 16p 90y drive with 3 of those 4th down conversions and scored the go-ahead TD with just :13 left. They combined to score 51 1H pts, I did not see that coming.

Off the big win at WCU and with UTC on deck, Furman only put up 300y of O and failed to score any TDs on their two RZ trips. ETSU's only TD was on a blk'd punt. ETSU has blk'd 4 punts this year, 3 by LB Teddy Wilson.

St Thomas only outgained Marist 379-342 yet won 42-14. Yards were limited for St Thomas as they started their 1H drives near midfield on average and started a total of five drives in Marist territory in the game with four TD drives shorter than 50 yards.

Not only did Morgan St get just their first win of the season since week 1, but they scored 32 points! They came in averaging 13ppg! Norfolk led 28-10 in the 4Q, but a KO ret TD and a pick-six back-to-back made it 28-24. Morgan had the ball on their on 33 4min left, they drove down field and scored the go-ahead TD with :35 left for the 4 pt win.

There were two non-offensive TDs in the Hampton - NC A&T game as well with Hampton getting a KO ret TD and A&T added a 4Q pick-six to make it just a 2 pt game, but A&T fumbled late on the H35 to end any comeback.

Villanova led 34-7 HT and finished the game with 10 plays of 20+ yards in the 48-13 rout of Stony Brook.

South Dakota scored the first 3 and led 3-0 end of 1Q. SDSU finished the game scoring on 7 straight possessions while scoring the final 37 pts and held a 473-183 ttl yard edge.

YSU looked flat footed to start with Missouri State getting an explosive KO return and 4 plays later they led 7-0. YSU would go up 14-7 but Missouri State scored on a 45y run to tie. 51y and 20y TD passes and a late FG put up YSU 31-14 HT. It was 38-28 before YSU added two 4Q FGs...44-28. Missouri St threatened to score again in the final seconds from the YSU 1 yard line but failed. YSU QB Mitch Davidson passed for a career high 390 and tied a career best 4 TDs.

Grambling and Bethune Cookman combined for just 26 FDs. Each team scored on a defensive fumble recovery/return TD. Bethune's was 77y return, Gramblings was in the EZ.

Alcorn slowly walked away with the win 24-3 over Miss Valley. They did end with a 385-163 ttl yard edge. Valley completed 18 passes for just 65y!

Jackson State O had their most yards (475) since week 0 and their second most pts on the year (40). Their D got 15 TFLs a week after getting 12!

Alabama A&M was attempting a game tying FG in the 3Q, but it was blk'd and returned for an Alabama State TD. Earlier in the game ASU had a punt ret TD. Those two non-offensive TDs contributed to the 47 pt score on a 45 pt total, each team had under 300y of O.

Austin Peay led North Alabama 39-18 HT, but only won 49-39.

Southern Utah has a good offense, it usually comes by air; the last two weeks SUU has rushed for 223 (4.7) on AP and 308 (6.4) on ACU. SUU finished with a +259 ttl yard edge in the 52-14 win.
