Week 2 What Are We Learning

One other thing about the Jets; I don't blame them for the Rodgers injury but he was going to get hurt at some point with that trash offensive line. Maybe I'm crazy but trading for a 39 yr old QB and not getting him any protection was a serious mistake.
Amazing how virtually every one of us has massaged our calves after that

This has been driving me crazy.

I'll look at our platform provider and see if I can change anything.

I did my own test too -- if you are not logged into Xwitter, then you'll automatically have the link show up funky.

I noticed when it first happened that Cub mentioned Twitter links still work…so I did what I described above and it worked. It’s a couple more steps and a little annoying, but at least can get them to post properly.

Cincy started figuring things out just before halftime yesterday. I think they will be fine moving forward.

The Bears are terrible and I think its pretty safe to say Fields is not that guy.

Baker has played pretty well in the first two weeks. The Bucs are not going to be an easy win for anyone.

Chiefs/Jags went under. Go figure.

Anthony Richardson is Cam Newton 2.0. He is also not going to last very long if he doesnt learn how to protect himself.

The Bills were just waiting to get the Mouse off their backs yesterday from week 1. Raiders just walked into a buzzsaw.

The Chargers lost a game they should have won and dominated on the stat sheet. Again. Brandon Staley must have naked pics of Dean Spanos or something.

Jordan Love is much better than I thought he was going to be. The Packers should be 2-0.

Bijan Robinson is the real fucking deal for Atl. Ridder is not.

Gutsy win by Seattle yesterday. I think that win says more about them than the loss says about the Lions.

49ers are 2-0 both on the road. They are good.

The Rams have a lot more fight in them than I expected. Puka is a stud and the thought of him and Kupp roaming the field would give me nightmares as a D coordinator.

Arizona has a lot more fight than I thought they would as well. They are making tanking look like fun.

GIants finally woke up a bit.

Dallas is the best team in the NFL after two weeks to my eyes. Both sides of the ball look stacked. Now lets see them play a real team, they wont face much of a challenge till week 5 vs the Niners

As a Rams fan I wanted Stafford off the field at that point. He throws a meaningless pass at the end and gets hurt people would questioning this stupidity. If the spread wasn’t involved here the fg attempt wouldn’t even be mentioned.

If the spread wasn’t involved it’s likely the FG attempt doesn’t even take place to be talked about.

With the exception of not having an answer for CD Lamb, I'd have to strongly disagree.

Dak throwing to anyone other than Lamb - 4.5 YPA is excellent
Pollard rushing - 2.9 YPC on 25 runs is excellent
Only 2 TDs in 6 trips to the redzone is a good stat

They were on the field for 42 minutes and 83 plays yet Dallas didn't reach 400 yards of offense. That's some serious battling they did.

The Jets offense was under siege. They gained 4.7 yards per play. The Cowboys gained 4.6 per play.

The Jets D lost by attrition. But on a play-by-play basis they played well. I'd bet the DVOA reflects that this week.

Agreed. If you see the DVOA when they come out would you mind posting a link?

Good post.

Well yea, when they kick a last second fg they just happens to effect the spread and nothing else of course it gonna be brought up. If there a concern for qb health when the game all but over he shoulda had a backup in or just handed it off. I really didn’t watch other than very end, I dunno if they were in fg range a few plays sooner where they could have kicked then tried onside I might find it annoying but doing it the last play makes it incredibly suspect. There no sense debating it, everyone gonna believe what they want, for me it’s just one more reason why i don’t particularly like nfl which a bummer cause I love fb, just not so much what they have turned it into..

honestly this one I find even more pathetic than the one Vrabel kicked, at least that clown could make the argument about trying to get ball back and kick another, even tho I’m sure the math says his team had a way better chance on 4th and 4 from the 10 we know he took lot of hits to the head so he probably isn’t great with math!! At least he had a argument, even if it was a bad argument it more than there is in this case.

I’m all ears tho, why would he kick a fg as time expired to lose by 7 instead of 10? I’d rather he just own it than any other reason cause at least it be the truth! There plenty of college coaches who clearly have a interest in covering a spread for their alum, I’m ok with that long as they don’t try and feed me some bs lie bout why they did it. If we could count on Mcvey trying to cover a number that has nothing to do with outcome then I don’t have a problem with it. The problem will be the next time when he just lets clock run out, then it becomes pretty clear something not on the level.

I wanted him to be the right pick, the way he can run and make plays fun to watch, prior years I said he really didn’t have shit for weapons, I’m over it tho, can’t win with him playing qb cause he hasn’t bothered to learn how to play the position, he either dumb, lazy, or both!

I didn’t think Hurts had a chance in hell succeeding long term cause that 1st year his accuracy just wasn’t close to good enough, the next year he more accurate, he actually works at it. This Mfer seems perfectly happy getting what he got and being what he is.

Brock probably had the "worst" game of his NFL career missing 3 deep shots and only rushing for a TD, no throwing and the Niners still put up 30 points. Difficult to see how the niners are not in the NFC championship at a minimum and most likely the favorites to win it all

It’s kinda where I’m at today. I was against it, then with it. Find myself where I started all over again after 2 games. Man that’s some bad tape.

I think I was more than fair to him, gave him a lot more rope than lot these qbs I crush cause he was fun to watch and I didn’t think he had a ton of help. It’s just painfully obvious he not putting in any work to actually learn how to be a qb, or he very stupid and the work not showing on the field. Either way he has had more than enough time and offseason to get better and he still exactly the same guy he was the 1st time he stepped on a nfl field and there just no excuse for that. It’s one thing to be physically limited, maybe he is mentally limited? Lol. That seems kinda hard to believe, I guess if he really Is putting work in but is sporting a 82 iq I feel bad for him. I don’t think that it tho.

9ers were pretty awful yesterday...

And should have won by DD.

If half the league isn't doing this by mid-season I'll be disappointed. Then again how many teams are really doing the push-sneak? A handful?
This might be a stretch but if teams do start deploying this successfully, this could certainly shave some expected points off the end results.

2nd week in a row a team kicked a fg at end the game that had nothing to do with winning but everything to do w covering a spread! Last week it was Vrabel who I thought could actually just be so dumb he didn’t realize a fg down 4 didn’t tie the game! This week we can’t even blame the stupidity of a guy who has taken lot of hits to the head cause Mcvey not stupid, he kicked the fg down 10 on the last play of the game so there was no chance of a onside kick then Hail Mary, had he kicked it with any time on the clock maybe I could be sold that bs but it was the last play! There no explanation other than to cover a spread! Shit has reached a whole new level of shady, why else kick that fg?

I never woulda believed this but firing kellen Moore so mccarthy could take over as playcaller was actually the right move! I’m shocked I gotta say this but dude has become a fantastic play caller.
What was the % on SF? I'd imagine pretty high, considering the public undressing of the NYG.

I get it, his passing skills leave much to be desired. By good lord, two games into the season and the Bears have called FOUR designed runs for Fields. If you're not going to let him do what he does best you kinda deserve getting nothing but his worst.

I personally don’t think this is how NFL head coaches think in the moment. We’re consumed by it especially if it costs us. We’re thinking Stafford spiked the ball because McVay ordered it so they can kick 3 and beat the spread? Like I said, gambling can create thoughts of corruption. I like the that he chose to kick it rather than expose Stafford to a long pass which means he would have had to stay in the pocket longer.

Some of the blame with Fields and the credit with Hurts is with the coaching. Look at the successful young QBs with the exception of Burrow who is so good that he can overcome bad coaching and you see they are well coached. Then look at the young QBs who are coached by idiots and you see failures all over the place.

Good for Bieniemy for going out and proving himself which will lead to a head coaching opportunity if it continues but its pretty ridiculous to knock Reid who has been successful for a very long time.

I just pasted a barstool pic. Doubt Reid and the Chiefs O struggles all year. If it does maybe there's something to it. But that's a big IF with a lot of games left.

I don’t disagree with that but to Hurts credit I’ve seen him improve every season going back to college so I know he working very hard on his game in the off season. There no doubt some these coaches are way better than others at designing a offense to these qb’s strengths but I think Hurts has put a hell of a lot more work into it than Fields has.

Hurts is really a guy that works harder than most and cares to be as good as he can be but it really helps to have outstanding coaching which is something Fields and many other young QBs don't have. Some of the fault definitely goes to the young QBs that struggle but its also a huge disadvantage not having good coaches around you.

Came here to post this....yesterday had me screaming at the box score

I can’t argue cause I remember thinking what a stupid ass hire I thought bears made! You got a electric young qb who needs lot of tutoring so let’s hire some defensive clown off the colts staff who was bringing in one washed up qb after another, he will know just what to do! Reading the post about 4 total designed runs pretty much screams they have no clue how to design a offense for Fields! That said I didn’t like his smirk or blaming the play call for blowing the game, he carry’s that smirk around way too much for a Mfer not winning games for my taste! If I was 5-22 or whatever his record is I’d be a lot more pissed off!

I’m not sure what the other explanation is as to why they kicked the FG. “Protecting Stafford” makes little sense as they could have just taken a knee after spiking the ball, OR just not spiked the ball at all and let the clock run out.

I liked to think that as well…until yesterday. There really is no other explanation as to why they kicked a FG. Good for them, I’m not saying I have any issue with it, but it doesn’t take much to figure out that’s what they were doing.

Chiefs next 7 opponents have won 1 game combined so far (that night not be exact, but I saw this a bit ago).

Seemed wilks really took awhile to adjust to the rams - stafford pretty much had his way until last 3-4 possessions for the rams he was dialed in..........niners usually play stafford very tough so not sure what he was doing differently - felt like lot of soft coverage - and then when he started blitzing some more and mixing it up he had success. overall the defense has a different look to it compared to last years

I would think into the second meeting that success at the end of game spells good for san fran - rams are so darn one dimensional - all you have to do is stop the pass - like the lions vs seattle the hawks couldn't run the ball and the lions just sat back in a soft zone and got picked apart.

I came away more impressed with rams from that performance then niners - rams oline held up very strong most of that game and their run defense was better than i expected. purdy missed lot of easy throws for touchdowns because thats just who he is - a guy with moxy but a true 6th rounder who won't give you great explosive plays. team with that talent deserves better.

with way pitt looked tonight - i'm not sure san fran is as good as people think right now - liking the giants this week

As they say in Pittsburgh, Browns are gonna Brown. Situational football is not a Stefanski strong suit. The Browns were WINNING THE GAME, they had the ball, the Steelers last 3 possessions had been punt, punt, punt, and yet Stefanski is trying to throw it around rather than play it close to the vest and rely on his D to continue their clamp down of the Steelers O. Just piss poor coaching.

Hoodie and company just gave the league a blueprint to slowing down the Dolphins offense. I think you see the same look on defense moving forward with that team. The Pats could not come up with enough on offense to pull it off but they certainly slowed down that offense enough.
The flip side of this point is that if you drop 5 DBs back and play an umbrella type D to stop the long ball and take away the center of the field, McDaniel can dial up a running game (almost 5 yards per run) and hit the quick outs and screens (almost 12 yds per pass). The key to the season is the O line for sure. Keep opening holes for Mostert and keep Tua upright and the offense can score. The D also showed up on Sunday, unlike the torching against the Chargers (different class of offenses for sure)

Eight QBs have zero interceptions. Interesting list:

Love - top QB rating too
Geno - still doing well after last year's resurrection
Baker - whoa, might be this year's resurrection
Purdy - makes sense if you can forget he was the last pick in the draft just last year
Herbert - OK, that one I can buy
DAK - led the league in INTs just last year. Did have one dropped on Sunday.
Dobbs - surprising considering he's been with Arizona for about 10 minutes
CJ Stroud - last rookie standing

Purdy missed a few throws but he’s better in this system than prime Matt Ryan. 10–0 as a starter leading the league in QBR during that time. Far more than a QB with moxy.

Mostert is glass and won’t be 100% for too much longer. I like this approach to frustrate Hill and Waddle with a lack of targets.

I'll quote you since this is the last post about it...

My initial thought...

The FG goes through with 1 seond left.

The onside also has a defensive penalty.

That leaves an untimed down for a hail mary.

Yes, the chances of all this happening are slim to none, but we've seen crazy things in this league.

The other thing -- and he may not have been thinking this at all -- tiebreakers at the end of the year (points for or point differential?)

The one thing I am pretty sure of -- he wasn't concerned with the spread.

Yup, and we'll see Wilson later in the year doing what he does.

These two do very well following each other around the league. Perfect handcuffs.
