Week 2 What Are We Learning

Has anyone else noticed that Tua RARELY progresses through his reads? In watching the game tonight, 90% of the time he quickly throws to the first and only receiver he locks onto. Out of the 20 snaps I watched carefully of his, he threw to his first read 18 times.

If the first read is open why would you need to progress through the reads? It’s working, why in the world would they not keep doing it?

My sense is the Dolphins run a lot of timing routes so Tua doesn't really need to make a set of reads. Some of them involve setting up WRs to flash past a defender into a second window opened up by the route scheme. Tua stares all day at those, waiting for the opening.
Yep. They definitely do. Just not sure they’ll be able to continue getting away with that?

It’s definitely working so far. Just don’t know how sustainable it is? Then again, with the WRs they have, maybe it is

I guess if it becomes unsustainable then we can see if Tua has the ability to progress through his reads.

I think my point is that it’s tough to knock Tua for not progressing through his reads when he essentially hasn’t needed to up to this point.

Regarding McVay’s decision to kick the fg, is everyone ok with Stafford attempting to throw a TD from 21 yards out on the last play and covering the spread? Of course they are because there’s a low probability he scores vs a chip shot 38 yard fg. Either score doesn’t matter so why not take 3 instead? McVay is one of the more high character classy individuals in the NFL, and 9er fans are acting like he’s scumb because he wasn’t sensitive towards the spread & 9ers wagers being flushed down the toilet.
I love repeating myself, SuperBowl56ChampsViaSF

If he attempted the fg with even 10 seconds left and they had time for the onside kick + Hail Mary I wouldn’t disagree or even brought it up, wouldn’t have had any problem kicking the fg 1st to set up that chance. However he kicked the fg as the clock expired which to me is much different.

Reminder of how the Dolphins season played out last year. Phins started 3-0 with Tua throwing 6 TDs against Baltimore in week 2. In week 3 he got the first concussion vs Buffalo but they held on to win. Then he got the second one against Cincy week 4 and the Dolphins lost. With backups in the lineup they lost weeks 5 and 6. Then Tua returned and the ripped off five straight wins against non-playoff teams.

Weeks 12-14 they went on the road to the Niners, Chargers and Bills. Phins went 0-3 and Tua didn't complete more than 57% of his throws in any game. They also lost Week 15 at home to the Packers and Week 16 at New England before squeaking out an 11-6 win against the Jets to sneak into playoffs.

So to answer the question from @skanless13 about how long Tua can keep this up, it appears to be until they run into a well-coached defense that can expose them. I see several opportunities on their schedule:

1) at Buffalo Week 4,
2) at Philly Week 7,
3) at KC Week 9,
4) at Jets Week 12,
5) vs. Dallas Week 16.

I'll go with Week 4 or Week 12. The Eagles could dominate the LOS but that's not as easy to repeat as a good coverage scheme.

Luckily I have known this and been preaching it for years, unfortunately I thought that maybe kellen Moore as oc would help the chargers but the same fact still remains. As long as Staley is the HC that team with more than enough talent will never reach their potential! Guy comes from defensive side and they have brought in more than enough defensive talent yet the titans garbage offense is scoring 27 on you? Tannenhill going 20-24 and hitting you in the head with bombs? I know the chargers are known for being cheap but good god, you gotta fire this clown!

Far as kellen Moore possibly being a upgrade for them I’m not sure anymore cause im watching mike McCarthy calling plays in Dallas, all a sudden Dak no longer a turnover machine and they looking fantastic against a defense that had totally shut down the bills and will give many other offenses problems!!

Sticking with the nfc east, I said this after preseason and I’ll say again, Washington is gonna get themselves into plenty of shootouts this year!! I’m convinced Sam Howell can absolutely play qb in this league, they have nice weapons, and just maybe someone should have given Bienemy more credit in kc cause I like this offense more than any Riverboat Ron offense I can recall! Second part to that equation is if you can block the Commanders front then you can absolutely roast that secondary! They got dudes in the front 7 but that secondary is awful!!!

I didn’t think Russ was washed, I still dunno if washed is the right word but Jfc I just don’t understand what he doing half the time? How you take a sack and force your coach to burn a timeout your team needed to get ball back?!?!! That play was just a snap shot of what he does far too often, he can’t read a damn d so when 1st read isn’t there he starts tryin to buy time and runs himself into sacks! Coach Peyton has to be pulling his hair out! Russ playing like Justin fieids without the burst or running ability fields has! Dude been in the league how long and looks like a kid ppl hope can figure things out! He can still throw a great deep ball, he can still get a 1st down if a seam presents itself, but he can’t do that shit in the backfield and elude defenders as he holds ball way too long! It’s never gonna work if he is incapable of quickly going thru progressions and it apparent he was simply able to mask his lack of ability in the past. The offense looks pretty good on script when Peyton drawing stuff up where the 1st read is open, once that part the game is over they fall apart, how much can coach Peyton take?

Yeah. I didn’t actually mean it as a knock. I meant it more of as an observation and potential future concern. I’m actually rooting for him

He has the right coach! I spend half my time watching some these games thinking “what if Joe burrow had a coach who could scheme offense like that?”!!! Just imagine he gets all those scripted easy throws early in games, then after halftime if you are down you can just put him shotgun and let him do his thing. How dangerous would that be? Instead his coach can’t draw up a play to get a guy open to save his damn life! The only time cincy offense moves the ball is when burrow and his wrs make great individual plays!

Yeah. Especially with all that talent in Cincy.

Yeah. Especially with all that talent in Cincy.

Im not basing this off the start, said it in preseason, Joe cool should not have signed that contract! I understand the way it works in nfl he kinda had to, if not they could still hold him hostage for a few years while he continues to get more and more beat up, so I get it but a real problem brewing for him in cincy! He and those weapons masking a lot of issues, the coach for one is garbage, the franchise as a whole never been well run! His line already suspect, they lost a lot of defensive players after last season, eventually he gonna start losing weapons and then what? Plus it don’t look like he totally healthy yet, he will continue getting hit cause his coach can’t scheme offense, and he has had a bunch of injuries already!!

We're only two weeks in mate

Not really anything to read into any of it yet other than we're on path to get Caleb

We are years into Staley holding this team back. If you think it will change more power to ya.

Teams are always gonna try and get a td even when games over, guys like stats. Yes I find it totally different, if Stafford throws a td it a shitty break if ya happened to lay the points (which I didn’t do so had nothing to do with selfishly feeling wronged), if he kicks fg as time expires you there is obviously a motive.

Man I haven't watched a second of Chargers football

Me either outside highlights. I don’t have to, the same things going on that have since he got there. Although it does appear maybe he possibly abandoned the philosophy that teams gashing them in the run game is a good thing. Now they making tannehill look like a all world qb? Whether it different or not it still the same issue. They are cheap so hired a guy who had like a year of DC experience on a team that had a very good defense before he took over, he clearly was a bad hire but again the cheapness preventing them from fixing the problem. Man I so wanted for Herbert for them to open up the wallet, fire this clown and brought in Peyton. Instead they continue to lose and Peyton got stuck w Russ Wilson who can’t read a defense!! Bummer for everyone!

They will always be San Diego to me

By the way football season starts tomorrow

Rarely bet on City but feel pretty good about us scoring 3+ in every group stage match

Likely 5ish tomorrow

It shows you just how great Burrow is that he can overcome that coaching staff.

Im really worried for him, now that he got the bag he gonna start losing pieces and still gonna be stuck w this clown. I totally whiffed on burrow, I didn’t think any chance he be able to accomplish what he has dragging this franchise into b2b afc championship games and a SB, just afraid he has taken them as far he can. Now thru life his contract some years he will get them in playoffs, some years they won’t make it, but they never going back to SB with this coach and front office imo. Then there the fact the play calling and/or Oline get him hit as much as any qb in the league and the injuries piling up! He deserves better!

Contacts come on Thursday I think

You don't want to be on the road between now and then

Man, I’m having a hell of a time. My eyes have gotten increasingly worse to the point I now need reeding glasses to see up close w contacts in, or bifocal glasses. Anyways they gave me trial pair of contacts till mine came that not as strong but good enough, they had to give me another trial cause it been over a month and still havnt gotten my left eye! I guess had to be made and they keep pushing back the date!

If you paste the link (not in the link area where you should), then change the x.com to Twitter.com you can then copy that and paste it in the link area and it will come across the right way.

Like this…

This has been driving me crazy.

I'll look at our platform provider and see if I can change anything.

I did my own test too -- if you are not logged into Xwitter, then you'll automatically have the link show up funky.

I'm on the right eye long distance and left eye short plan

I actually asked the bitch if it would affect my putting and she said it shouldn't. Chinese so I trust her but it could go South fast.

As a Rams fan I wanted Stafford off the field at that point. He throws a meaningless pass at the end and gets hurt people would questioning this stupidity. If the spread wasn’t involved here the fg attempt wouldn’t even be mentioned.

Hoodie and company just gave the league a blueprint to slowing down the Dolphins offense. I think you see the same look on defense moving forward with that team. The Pats could not come up with enough on offense to pull it off but they certainly slowed down that offense enough.

They are a Tua knock away from being irrelevant.

With the exception of not having an answer for CD Lamb, I'd have to strongly disagree.

Dak throwing to anyone other than Lamb - 4.5 YPA is excellent
Pollard rushing - 2.9 YPC on 25 runs is excellent
Only 2 TDs in 6 trips to the redzone is a good stat

They were on the field for 42 minutes and 83 plays yet Dallas didn't reach 400 yards of offense. That's some serious battling they did.

The Jets offense was under siege. They gained 4.7 yards per play. The Cowboys gained 4.6 per play.

The Jets D lost by attrition. But on a play-by-play basis they played well. I'd bet the DVOA reflects that this week.

They were fine in the red zone but bad otherwise. Lamb is great no doubt but maybe having Sauce cover him all day would have had a better result.

One other thing about the Jets; I don't blame them for the Rodgers injury but he was going to get hurt at some point with that trash offensive line. Maybe I'm crazy but trading for a 39 yr old QB and not getting him any protection was a serious mistake.
