A study in extremes, the Mets last 29 games of almost all-or-nothing offense in the normal 9 regulation inns -

7, 1, 3, 2, 0, 8, 15, 0, 2, 3, 1, 7, 7, 11, 2, 9, 2, 10, 7, 5, 7, 2, 3, 7, 10, 2, 2, 7 & 6 run totals.

14 totals of 0-3 runs.
_2 totals of 4-6 runs.
13 totals of 7+ runs.

Has anyone watched these games with Dimuro. His record of home wins is scary to put it mildly. Perkins is certainly the most complete and formidable pitcher Minn has but if there is no way---. I guess what I am getting at is by random chance there will be lopsided ump results and sometimes it is just a umpire dictating events. Has anyone seen enough games to be sure he is determining events?

ESPN TV games have been infused with Fav results recently, especially games with home favs.

The Fav is -
9-1 SU last 10 games,
13-4 SU last 17 games,
21-7 SU last 28 games

Home Favs are -
9-1 SU last 10 games,
13-3 SU last 16 games,
20-5 SU last 25 games

A 75%-to-90% Fav hit rate is not normal (20-5 over 25 games - a 4:1 Fav/Dog ratio - is nigh on unbelievable). One would expect that the Dog correction which started with Milwaukee beating Saint Louis to not stop with solely that result.

The coming games on ESPN's schedule
(pitching match-ups where possible based on normal rest in brackets)

Philadelphia @NY Mets - Myers vs Maine
NY Yankees @Boston (Rasner vs Dice-K)
LA Angels @Boston (Lackey vs Buchholz)
Chicago Cubs @Milwaukee (Dempster vs Parra)
Philadelphia @Saint Louis (Moyer vs Wellemeyer)
Houston @Chicago Cubs
NY Yankees @Texas
Saint Louis @Chicago Cubs

I like the under in the Mets game. Am I just a sick fuck? From BC's stats, it looks like the Mets will pretty much hit the over or under on their own...

I really like nothing else tmw. If I get home from work and someone has a good point, I'll play something. But I feel like some of the lines have normalized a bit. I'm a little tempted to go u7.5 with Greg Smith and James Shields.

Seabass - ESPN games - naturally given the ton of Fav results that have occurred - have also been infused with a massive number of Under results (at 19-5-2, that's only a 19.2% Over rate). An Over correction would naturally be likely if the Dogs started barking. And this is in keeping with Overs generally around the league starting to overcome Unders dominance of the season as a whole to date. To hop on the ESPN game Under train now would be to be "buying into a saturated market". A move imo of doubtful merit.

In this situation though, do you have any reason to believe that the past will not repeat itself? I guess my problem with this line of thought is that I just don't see how a game being on ESPN has any bearing on it. If you want to tell me that the ump will call more strikes because he's on ESPN, maybe you can argue that point. But if we were flipping a coin and the last 20 had been heads, it's not like the next coin would definitely be tails?

I get and appreciate a ton of your stats. But the ESPN saturation...I don't get it in athletics, and I don't get it in math.

Maybe I'm missing something.

No interest in fading the Yanks right now... not too many sides that jump out to me, but a couple overs do...

sd/Cincy o9

Pitt/Hous o9.5

Tex/Wsox o10

playing all 3. I think KC wins but I'll likely pass.

Leans

Detroit/KC under 9.5- Galarraga is strong in the day and Greinke is tough at home. Bullpens are a concern.

LAA -1.5- Laffey struggles on the road and the Angels love hitting LHP.

Arizona ML

Baltimore ML- Guthrie should handle the Jays, especially a day after the Jays blew their load.

Milwaukee is tempting because Stl generally struggles with the lefties. The Crew will be going for blood with Sabathia on the mound.

Its simple probabilities. A particular spot of regularity - in this instance ESPN featured games over the course of a season- is likely to reflect normal result occurrence rates overall in general. So if Overs for all games occur at a 45-55% rate in general, then that's their likely occurrence rate for ESPN's particular spot. So if you have an elongated period where Overs have occurred at a 19.2% rate, then a correction is in the works, even if it's a "down season" (around 45%) overall for Over results anyway (no "down season" is going to have Unders occur at 80+% for 6 months. The books would go broke. not happening. And so ESPN games are not going to feature Under results at a rate of 80+% for the rest of the regular season either. I'm saying that without a shadow of a doubt).

I don't like criticizing picks, but how can taking a team who has lost 2 straight to the other team possibly ever be a play of the day?

Play of the day today was Toronto at plus money soo.....Just like Oak wouldnt win today either right I also had them...Mussina will get hit tomorrow by Righty killering Twins....The fact they lost the last two u think that means they lose again? That has no bearing on who wins this game...Whats with all this repeating history nonsense

Liking the Marlins tomrorow with Nolasco on the mound. Hudson got banged up by the marlins in his only start against them this year (Era 12.00) and has struggled on the road. Nolasco has struggled against the Braves (0-2) but I like the Marlins to take the game and the series before heading to Chicago.

The Reds in third game of series after a win are 11-5. The Padres in third game after a loss are 4-12. The Reds at home on Wednesday are 4-8. The Padres away are 1-5. In his last 6 home starts Bronson is 5-1 with 5 quality starts and he has won 4 straight. Today was aquality win for the Reds who are still trying to be a real team. The Reds have Thursday off while the Padres play at Pitt. Greg--I will let someone else talk about that. Their really is only one argument for the Padres. Greg has done very well in the past with this umpire. That is not enough. I will play the Reds for the game and I probably will make a first half bet on Seattle along with a smaller game bet.

JD I agree. I want to play Minn. But that umpire being something like 19-3 for the home team seriously worries me.

Milwaukee looks tempting with CC and the under might be worth a shot. These past 2 days, I was on St. Louis hoping if they had a chance in this series, it would be the first two games. Now they must face CC and then Sheet on Thursday. Right now, Milwaukee has the momentum and playing with a lot of confidence, while the Cardinals are finding ways to lose.

last start hudson had vs. fish he had dead arm was only throwing 89 to 87

How has Mussina pitched this well so far I dont understand...Still think hes due to get hit well...Perkins even got by the lefty killing Tigers...little impressive

Myers and Mack Maine have been getting lite up pretty hard lately.

And neither of them has pitched that well vs decent hitting teams this season as well.

Crazy comeback by the Phils tonite, should be another high scoring game tomorrow.

I am in love with the Atl/Fla Over 8. Matchbook has no offers yet, and I am afraid I will miss the train on this one, as the line should move against me (8.5 or 9)

They sent Myers down. He pitched 4 games. The first was average. The next 3 were quality games. 7 walks and 28 strikouts. All 4 were better than any of Maine's last 4. Remember Myers is 8-2 lifetime at the Mets. His last 3 starts there were 21 innings giving up 6 runs and beating Gonzalez, Glavine and Pedro.

Houston has had at least 1 Under result in every home series of 3+ games this season.

Mr. Moehler is 11-1-1 to Under in all starts this season.

Pitt & Houston have combined for 1 Over & 1 Push in 2 games in Houston, with 1 game to go.

You think there's a bunch of chasers out their about to leap on Under again?
Willing to ignore the fact Mr.Snell is 7-3 to Over in road starts, that Pitt as a team is 33-13-3 to Over in road games, and that Houston's best Over spot for home games is in game 3s (7-5-2 to Over, their only spot in favour of Overs at all).

Snell very solid vs Houston and in Houston in his career . Was thinking under here myself. :shake:

wow, that's a crazy stat. It's NY or nothing for me.

No doubt Cogenman....That, and eventhough I'm surprised like JD that he's found the fountain of youth, I'm with you on this bubba....

Taking the NY RL on it......and I'm hardly a Yankee betting square (lol)

Moose has been solid as shit...Seen him pitch 4 games this year on the tube. I don't see any flaws that I've seen in the pst 4-5 years when he looks like he's aiming the ball..I dunno how, like you said that you could ever take the Twinkies in it........Yanks or no play...just depends on how you want to set it up I guess....I see no value in Minny, that is certain.

You think there's a bunch of chasers out their about to leap on Under again

Hey Bet :shake:

I'll have to freely admit that I felt damn fortunate to get last two nights overs...Especially Monday Nights..........:shake:

Probably do the high jump Wed. also in this matchup.

yeah d-hop. this seems like the same time year after year the yanks maker their playoff push. good job earlier today also D-hop

Tidbits from around the leagues

National League

Saint Louis/Milwaukee
The Cardinals have played a major league-high 38 one-run games

Bill Hall has 4 homers against the Cardinals and is batting .346 (9-for-26) against them.

Milwaukee has homered in a season-high 18 straight games; the team record is 19 straight set from June 11-30, 1996.

Florida/Atlanta
Hanley Ramirez broke an 0-for-15 slide, his longest hitless streak this season, when he singled in the 7th inning of Tuesday's game.

Braves SS Yunel Escobar (sore left shoulder) was in the lineup for the first time since July 9 and went 0-for-4.

New York/Philadelphia
When Jimmy Rollins saw New York reliever Duaner Sanchez come out to pitch the 9th inning Tuesday night instead of starter Johan Santana or closer Billy Wagner, he went straight to the batting tee to stay loose.
It didn’t matter that he was due up sixth and the Philadelphia Phillies trailed by three runs. He thought they had a chance, while Mutts backers knew they had no chance.

Cincinnati/San Diego
Reds RHP Aaron Harang played catch before Tuesday's game without a problem. He is on the DL with a strained right forearm.

Reds RHP Josh Fogg was hit in the mouth by Joey Votto’s batted ball during pregame batting practice. He got 30 stitches for a gash in his upper lip. He is scheduled to start Friday against Colorado.

Houston/Pittsburgh
The Astros are 6-36 when they score fewer than four runs.

The Astros said Randy Wolf will start Sunday in Milwaukee.

Jason Bay has 11 RBIs in his last 8 games.

Freddy Sanchez has 4 homers in his last 12 games at Minute Maid Park.

Colorado/Los Angeles
The Rockies have scored 10 or more runs in their last 3 games. When they haven't managed another 10+ run total off putting up such a total this season, they've scored 2, 0, 2, 3, 1, 4 & 5 run totals (avg of 3.33 runs at home, avg of 2.42 runs overall).

Arizona/Chicago
Orlando Hudson got hit in the right ankle Tuesday, sending the Diamondbacks’ second baseman to the ground in pain. Hudson had to be helped from the field, and is day-to-day.

The Diamondbacks are 18-3 when they hit at least two home runs in a game.

Lou Piniella canceled batting practice Tuesday and Wednesday, saying maybe it would help the team’s slumbering offense (great move, Lou - give them even more time to bang hookers and smoke spliffs).

San Francisco/Washington
Does anyone give a shit? Zito won a home game - doesn't that tell you you can't trust either of these 2 crappy outfits anytime or anywhere?

American League

Baltimore/Toronto
The Orioles are seeking their first series win since June 24-26, against the Chicago Cubs.

The Blue Jays have lost 14 of 19 on the road.

The Blue Jays have notched up 7, 5, 10 & 5 run totals following posting a singular 10+ run total this season

New York/Minnesota
Robinson Cano is hitting .522 since the All-Star break.

Yankees C Jorge Posada had his injured throwing shoulder examined by New York Mets medical director Dr. David Altchek. The Yankees said they hoped to have information Wednesday on whether Posada will need season-ending surgery.

Alexi Casilla has hit safely in 22 of his last 24 games, batting .356 (37-for-104) over that span.

Tampa Bay/Oakland
The Devil Rays (58-41) are just 16-15 when the opposition starts a left-hander.

Oakland reliever Brad Ziegler didn’t allow a run in the 7th and 8th innings to extend his career-starting scoreless streak to 23 2-3 innings, surpassing the AL record of 22 innings set by Boston’s Boo Ferris in 1945.

Oakland 2B Mark Ellis was scratched from the starting lineup because of a sore right shoulder. He is day to day (so thats how they managed to score some runs Tuesday - one of their regular bums was missing, and it put the usual recipe for offensive lethargy out of whack. Now only 8 other regular bums have to get hurt, and they can start scoring 8 runs every game).

Kansas/Detroit
The Royals starting pitchers have thrown a total of 21.1 innings out of a possible 45 innings since the All-Star break.

Mike Aviles managed a double on Tuesday, extending his hitting streak to a career-high 12 games.

Detroit will complete the sweep Wednesday by murdering headcase Greinke, whose horrible road form vs AL teams (WHIP 2.07, ERA 9.59 last 5) has been dodged so far in his home starts over the same period - you can manage such dodging while skating on thin ice for only so long, son.

Chicago/Texas
White Sox 3B Joe Crede was a late scratch from the lineup with lower back stiffness and will play on Wednesday against the Rangers.

Ozzie is still mouthing off about Monday's loss even now.

The Rangers have not committed an error since the All-Star break.

Los Angeles/Cleveland
Francisco Rodriguez recorded his 41st save Tuesday night, surpassing last season’s total with still 62 games remaining.

Jeff Mathis threw out Jamey Carroll trying to steal second in the first. That snapped a streak of 29 consecutive stolen bases by Angels opponents since June 18.

Cleveland’s Grady Sizemore pulled even with Carlos Quentin of the White Sox for the league lead in homers with his 24th on Tuesday.

Jhonny Peralta, batting .337 since he was moved into the cleanup spot on June 22, was rested by Wedge. He pinch-hit in the eighth and struck out, ending his 11-game hitting streak.

Seattle/Boston
Seattle rookie C Jeff Clement left the game in the third after a foul ball clipped his right hand and ripped the finger nail off his thumb. He was replaced by Kenji Johjima. Riggleman said Clement should be ready to play Friday in Toronto.

Daisuke Matsuzaka’s scoreless streak ended at 24.1 IP.

Dustin Pedroia has a hit in 23 straight road games, and has a hit in 24 of his last 25 games overall.

I dont plan on backing further Houston totals anytime soon, it simply strikes me that there'll be Over doubters solely based on the fact that heres a Houston home series threatening to go by without registering an Under result. And Moehler is not good enough to continue to defy the "Over Gods" for as much/long as he has done.

Just waiting for SN to come tell me why he like the Yanks so I can go hang myself

Really tough to fade NYY right now and where is BC with his Minny update on the road as they perform porrly vs good teams from what I recall.. They arent playing great but they are winning . Twins pen has been shitty on the road past few series think Boston , Detriot and here . Yanks pen is rolling right now. Moose L4 starts only 5 runs allowed and NO Hrs . 24INN 27H 3bb 24K.

Twins 15-17 in day games scoring 3.8 runs & 19-12 UNDER

Minny is 9-1 before an off day and dont play Thursday and 10-5 on Weds

Yanks 7-1 at home vs LHSP since Arod came off the DL and 7-1 Under in those. Only loss was 7-0 to Lester when Yanks came out flat after slugging Texas the previous game. Yanks were 1-5 when ARod and Posada were injured vs LHP at home.

Yanks 20-13 in day games and 24-8 UNDER.

In 2007 Yanks were 15-5 at home vs LHSP losing to Johan , Bedard twice , Ollie Perez and Adam Loewen in April. So pretty much 22-6 at home with ARod in the lineup vs LHP since the start of 2007 at Yankee Stadium .

Both SP have good day splits but Perkins day & away splits are real solid. Moose was not very sharp vs Oakland but then again Twins have failed to hit Ponson or Rasner . Yanks pen L30 days entering tonight ( only the 5 key arms - Edwar , Farnsworth , Veras , Robertson and Mo) .

54.1INN 31 H 11 R 1 HR 19 BB 64Ks

Would GUESS Tuck is thinking Yanks lookahead to Boston series and are just 5-6 before an off day . In 2007 before a Boston series Yanks were 3-3 losing to Burnett twice and Verlander who are power RHPs unlike the crafty LH Perkins. Yanks are 20-5 in Game 3's in 2008 and 3-0 in the game before a Boston series so far but 2 be fair 2 of those wins were to avoid sweeps . From what I have seen past few years and havent researched it would think both Yanks and Sox do well in the game before they square off and have no lookahead issues on the surface.

Yanks like Minny are 10-5 on Weds but are 45-18 since 2006 on that day !

Yanks hit Perkins at Minny and Moose survived a rough 1st inning there. He did have a bad stretch vs Minny losing 7 of 8 starts before this years win but he didnt pitch badly vs them in 2007 either.

Twins 0-5 vs the AL East away so far .
Twins are 11-14 vs AL RHSP and just 2-7 L9 vs AL RHSP.

Wonder if Mauer sits and if Sexson DHs with Damon in LF really gets the dead wood out of the lineup in Gardner .

Big thing for Yanks is drawing walks and working counts of late.

Just to get an idea of how bad Minny pen has been away at times before today's game:

Twins 4-9 in Game 3 after losing Games 1 and 2 L13 occurrences .
Twins 4-12 L16 away vs teams with wining record.

Yanks won 9 straight at home
Yanks 40-11 last 51 Game 3's(20-5 in 2008)
Yanks 43-16 L59 WED games
Yanks 104-42 L146 at home vs LHSP ( goe back a long time probably about 2000 on but misleading since Yanks once had a stacked lineup of RHBs )

UNDER 36-17-2 for Twins L55 Game 3's

(not sure if these include today)
UNDER 7-0-1 L8 times Yanks scored 5 +runs
UNDER 9-1-2 after Yanks L12 wins

DiMuro19-3 Home team and 17-2 home chalk in 2008 and 36-16 Home team L52.

Dont read much into the home trend with the UMP. His last 10 road SP are pretty weak.

Halladay last game @ TB the exception but look at TB's home record .
Previous:
Correria 1-9 in 10 starts
Redman released
Davies
Rasner
Unit ( @ Boston)
Contreras (subway series)
Lannan ( @ Minny -remember how AL dominanted IL plus vs Livan ex-Nat )
Hurley (ML debut)
Sowers

I prefer the UNDER here . Would probably take NYY as well. Just dont see where the edge is outside avoid a sweep and the 9-1 (18-18 previous 2 years in this situation) record before an off day .

What shows Yanks dont have at least a 60% chance of winning which equates to -150?

Not sure why NY has been cheap all series and again here . Perkins was +130@ Det and @ SD and home dogs or PKs at home mostly. With how NYY is playing game should be at least -170 IMO. At times Moose gets no run support getting 2 or less in 6 of 13 at home and the other 7 at least 5++runs.... 10-3 UND ar home and 5-1 UNDER at day avg 3 runs ( icluding pen) allowed when he starts in the day to3.4 for Minny and Perkins in his day starts.....

Perkins likes DET winning his 2 road starts there andosin @ Chicago plis winning @ SD and @ Milw in IL......

Under 9.5 and Yanks ML somewhat lesser I guess. If you like Minny would suggest Twins +1.5 RL and Twins 1st 5 inn ML before the game ML......

Great info.....was just thinking about the first 5 also... If I hit one I come out ahead......Been watching some Baltimore games lately and they can score in that ballpark in bunches and Burnett has struggled with Baltimore this year.....Played Orioles ML -112

I don't think this is something we see that often.

The Braves are hitting .404 off Ricky Nolasco (36 for 89, 9 home runs)

Another note about Nolasco. He's been a day time pitcher this season. This isn't a day game. 1.71 ERA in day games, 4.35 at night.

Another contradicting indicator:

he has owned the Braves in the past two years, 1.82 ERA, 24.2 IP, 22 H, 7 ER.

But this season he is 0-2, 11.32 ERA against them. 10.1 IP, 21 H, 13 ER, 7 homers.

The question is, how to play this? Atlanta?

Hudson was 6-1, 2.28 ERA against Florida prior to this season, and only lasted 3 innings this year as they blasted him for 6 hits and 4 earned runs.
IF you take Atlanta, you are laying chalk with a road pitcher owning not so impressive numbers, 2-6, 4.09 ERA.

In Nolasco's favor: he has held the opponents to .192 BAA in the month of July (28 IP, 20 H, 9 ER, but 4 homers)
Eddings is the ump, 7-12 to the under this season.

:4_12_12:

Atlanta have scored 5, 8, 8, 7, 9 & 4 run totals off being shutout and then playing a road game this season.

Florida off shutting a team out has conceded 5, 4, 2, 4 & 8 run totals (bolded, home games).

I wouldn't think someone would be on shaky ground assuming ATL scores 4 runs at a minimum tomorrow.

Leans so far...

- Florida (Nolasco) - probably a medium play
- Colorado (Rusch) - probably a big play
- Milwaukee (Sabathia) - probably another big play
- San Diego (Maddux) - possibly a small play
- Washington (Balester) - possibly a medium play

Explanations:

Florida - Huddy struggling lately, worse on the road and when going on regular rest; Nolasco on a 5-2-1 run. Marlins won their last 3 series (last vs PHI) and now tied the current one - making a statement here? Nolasco lost to the Bravos already twice - a possible bounce-back today? Also, Nolasco MUCH better on regular rest (which is today) going 7-2, 3.67 ERA 1.20 WHIP and .233 BAA. Marlins a home (29-22) dog?

Colorado - Rusch 2-0, 2.41 ERA 0.98 WHIP over his last 2 starts - underrated so far. Kuroda winless in day starts and terrible on the road so far (2-6, 4.99 ERA .286 BAA). Rockies are now 5-1 over their last 6 games and have been averaging over .400 BA while scoring 10 runs or more for the 3rd straight game! And are a home (30-22) dog?

Milwaukee - imagine winning 2 games in a row vs your division rival and now you got your newest QUALITY pitcher going for you in 3rd game - would you like to give him maximum support to get it done and make a statement? I know I would. Anyway, C.C. is 3-0 with 1.88 ERA while averaging exactly 8.0 innings per start since being traded to Brewers. Also, getting a crazy run support of 6.3 runs per game! Looper is 0-2 with 6.75 ERA over his last 3 starts. Cards not batting well vs LHP... A statement game for Milwaukee imo...

San Diego - I know Arroyo has been hot lately, I know the Reds have been great in game 3 (so were the Cards in game 2 after a loss, but they lost so now they're 14-2 so what?) while Padres sux in game 3 after a loss, bla bla bla... I said earlier that I've been thinking even before this series that Padres were the hotter team at the moment and that I believe they'll win this series. I'm going to stick with it. If nothing else, but Maddux's domination over Cincy (24-16, 3.43 ERA), his good start (1.69 ERA) vs them this season but a no-decision, his better day ERA (3.24) and favorable home umpire (Maddux is 3-0 in his road starts with Chuck behind home plate) - all of this is ok but the main reason I may play the Padres today are the team itself. Young guys + some veterans have been battling lately and it's always something I appreciate when looking at the possibility of backing up a team.

Washington - pretty much the bottom part of Padres explanation could be re-used here. We'll see...

Definitely expecting a battle in Florida today. We'll see..

I don't think this is something we see that often.

The Braves are hitting .404 off Ricky Nolasco (36 for 89, 9 home runs)

:4_12_12:
nolasco's start against florida june 5 was pretty bad, but he never had his good stuff. he couldn't locate his sharp curve ball at all and was stuck throwing fastballs for the 5.2 innings out there

Adding Philadelphia (Myers) - that comeback win last night definitely boosted their morale, hopefully it would get them going in the right direction...

White Sox to win the series, laying a short price at home against Texas who only hits .231 on the road vs Left handed starters. Really my first big play in a while on White Sox.

NYY/MINN under 5 1st 5

Really like this play.

Last 3 for both pitchers:
Mussina 2-0 18 IP 1.28 WHIP with a 1.50 ERA.
Perkins 3-0 19.2 IP 1.12 WHIP with a 2.29

Yanks bats have been sizzling which makes this play a little scary but I think Perkins can hold his on for a few innings. Mussina has been money all year and I look for him to continue the Yankee dominance. Although the Yankees bullpen has been solid all year I still like the 5 inning play.
