It's interesting to see Kings favorites against Denver and actually thinking that Kings could be a good bet...

Kings for several years now, have a good roster on paper, but a bunch of head cases in reality. If Cousins will be focused and if Vasquez will be able to run the team, Kings can be a team fun to watch this season...

Lean raptors...
Would like to hear thoughts on this raptor team, Rudy now integrated.. Depth, coaching , pace, health??

The Hawks should beat the Mavs SU. I am very low on the Mavs this year - very old team and no depth at the big positions. Not sure how DAL will contain Horford and Milsap. Teague is in line for a breakout year - he could be an all star this year.

Rookie Peyton Siva could start at point guard in Detroit's season opener on Wednesday.

With Rodney Stuckey (thumb) and Brandon Jennings (oral surgery) potentially sidelined, coach Maurice Cheeks said he doesn't know who would start in the opener alongside the other likely backcourt starter, Chauncey Billups. Cheeks indicated that he'd prefer to keep Will Bynum in his role with the second unit, so Siva could very well end up starting Wednesday night if Stuckey and Jennings can't suit up. The rookie out of Louisville had his ups and downs in the preseason, but minutes are gold in fantasy basketball, so owners in deeper leagues may want to put Siva on their radars as a short-term fill-in.

Al Jefferson is listed as questionable for Tuesday's opener with a sprained right ankle. This is scary, as CHAR has very little scoring options outside of Kemba (who will have a breakout year). This game could get ugly in HOUS, as Howard plays his first regular season home game in what should be a fired up area. BLOWOUT

Chandler and Lawson are both not expected to play for DEN. DEN's offense will struggle early on with a new system being implemented. Again, not sure how this team will score in the opener. SAC has their own line up issues, but they've looked much better under the new coach. I like SAC to win.

The NETS line looks too low. I don't have much reasoning on that game. I just think the NETS are a serious contender in the East and they will want to make a statement on opening night. The CAVS are still developing - they are still a few years away.

NO looks like a classic trap game. I expect folks to be on IND, and IND might be the fav by gametime. NO is much improved this year and arguably more athletic than IND. I still can't back NO until I see them play a few games this year (They need to figure out their rotation), but they should put up a fight on opening night.

Misread this line. Still expect folks to bet this game up to 3 or 3.5 by gametime. Looks short.

I like Wizards as well, but it's hard to play them at almost even line on the road against decent team...

Kings look nice.

Heat and Thunder both should win, the line though is always the main question.

Steve Nash might not play in the B2B against GS. That explains the movement, but 12 points is a lot to lay for a team that does not play defense. Iggy will help, but the rest of the team still is not very good defensively. It's a no play, but I don't think GS is as good of a value as bettors think.

MIA is a tough pick, as they will likely be in a dog fight with CHI tonight. The Sixers will be pathetic this year.

I remember that they had similar situation last season (or the year before that), playing Boston and Sixers after that in the first 48 hours of the NBA season and they did a good job against the Sixers.

You gotta be nuts to back this sixers team against Miami. If anything you can bet on the heat to sleepwalk thru the first half.

First lines that popped out to me were Washington and New Orleans. Seems like no one is giving this Pelicans team any credit and they look good on paper. Is it too early in the season to factor in no rest for Indy?

Where do the data geeks in the thread go to get their stuff? Are there any good websites that have up to date statistics on all the NBA teams? I've been using teamrankings.com but they really only have good trend analysis data, no actual statistics.

I don't like this Raptors roster and the fact that Wiggins is from Toronto, doesn't add any confidence that Toronto will try to grab any wins this season...

dont see much defense from the Celtics will take a look at torontos tt..

Where do the data geeks in the thread go to get their stuff? Are there any good websites that have up to date statistics on all the NBA teams? I've been using teamrankings.com but they really only have good trend analysis data, no actual statistics.

basketball-reference.com is good
sportsdatabase.com/nba/query is a great database that you can query for situation specific info

If I had any faith in the Pistons...

Waaayyy behind on my NBA homework this season but tonight early leans on Atlanta & Washington. Houston also looks like a blowout in the making but the line has gotten pretty high

Let me see----You think that is a good thing for Detroit. Interesting, Washington is gearing up for a major playoff run. They are one of the most revenge oriented teams I know. They are spending 7 million more dollars this year than Detroit and the concept of a bulls eye does not apply here. Interesting

You do understand that GS is a very average team on 8 plus spreads and that they play the Clippers tomorrow.

First of all, I find that interesting coming from someone who seems to be one of the more trend oriented posters here - I would have just assumed a team being 16-2 SU against an opponent would've piqued your interest to a certain extent. Second, so what if they're "gearing up for a major playoff run"? Dude, every team's gearing up for a playoff run this time of the year - doesn't mean it's going to happen, especially since we're talking about a Wizards team that's 19-96 SU on the road the past three seasons, and had the lowest PPG average and DEFF in the league on the road last season. Are the additions of Al Harrington and Marcin Gortat really going to change that? And you can discount pre-season all you want, but Detroit raced out to a 65-43 HT lead when they played the Wizards at The Palace a few weeks ago, a game in which each team's regulars started, so obviously there are some matchup problems for the Wizards to contend with (Greg Monroe vs. pretty much anyone, and Peyton Siva vs. pretty much anyone).

Does that mean I think the Pistons win? No, but it sure as hell doesn't hurt...

Squares at my book already on heat

I was thinking this might be one of those spots we saw so many times last season where the Heat fuck around for 35 mins and then pour it on at the end. Still might play out that way but the drop to 10 takes some of the value out of a potential 2H play

Very possible. I will definitely be eyeing 2h plays tonight. League pass is also free this week fyi

Will Bynum starting for DET. Kills their bench. Rookies Siva and Powell are the back up guards.

Wall and Beale go off tonight

AUBURN HILLS, MICH. — With the Washington Wizards only a few hours away from opening the season Wednesday night against the Detroit Pistons, Marcin Gortat didn’t have much time to get caught up as the team’s first shootaround of the season ended at the Palace of Auburn Hills.
So Gortat nodded attentively as John Wall directed him and explained where he should move in a pick-and-roll set. About all that has been settled thus far for Gortat is his jersey number: He will wear No. 4 with the Wizards.
“I was hoping I would come back to 13,” said Gortat, whose practice jersey still only has the team name. “But obviously, [Kevin] Seraphin’s got it.”
Gortat wore No. 13 in Orlando but two-time most valuable player Steve Nash owned that number in Phoenix. When someone jokingly told Gortat that he should get No. 13 now because he’s older than Seraphin, Gortat smiled and said: “I got bigger pockets, too. He knows that.”
His car and most of his belongings still remain in Phoenix after the Wizards’ trade last Friday with the Suns, but Gortat obviously didn’t leave his sense of humor behind. In the unusual position of spending an entire training camp and preseason with one team and then opening the regular season with another team, Gortat has been cramming like crazy over the past few days. He knows enough to get by against the Pistons.
“I’m ready to play,” Gortat said. “I’m happy the season starts now. People, veterans usually are tired of preseason. So I’m excited that we start to play today and obviously, we came to win the game. At the end of the day, it’s all about competing. Even if you screw up something on the court, you’ve just got to improvise. Make sure the guy is not going to score and if they miss the shot, you’ve got to rebound the ball. I don’t think I’ll have any problems with that.”
The physical, 6-foot-11 Gortat would appear to be a much-needed counter for the Pistons’ imposing front line of Andre Drummond and former Georgetown star Greg Monroe. But Coach Randy Wittman hasn’t stated if Gortat will be in the starting lineup, but Trevor Booker has getting repetitions with the first five in practices and shootaround.
“He’s still on roller skates a little bit right now,” Wittman said of Gortat. “Obviously you want to try and keep him in a situation where he isn’t thinking too much. You can’t be a player who is thinking and expect to perform at a high level. He’s got to get a comfort level to him. He’ll show me how much time he really deserves as he picks things up. I haven’t coached him in a game, even a preseason game yet.”
The Wizards are looking for some payback on Wednesday after losing all four games against the Pistons last season. But Gortat enters the game with his own incentive to defeat Detroit. When Phoenix made its only appearance at the Palace of Auburn Hills last November, Gortat scored just six points in a 117-77 loss which ranks as the third-worst in the Suns’ franchise history.
“I also would like to take revenge on that team,” Gortat said. “They totally dominated us and I’m hoping to pay them back right now. It’s only one game, but we came here to win the game. And my presence on this team, hopefully will help on the glass and energy and toughness. Hopefully, I’ll bring a winning spirit.”
Seraphin got to hold on to his jersey number but he didn’t sound threatened about possibly getting fewer minutes now that the Wizards have acquired more size.
“That’s the NBA. I was always expecting somebody to come and it’s like that. Unless you a superstar, you can’t be like, and think, ‘That’s my spot.’ You can be gone in a minute. That’s why I’m like, ‘He’s coming in. Okay. I will just stay focused and keep doing what I’m doing.’ ”
Nene has been the most excited about adding Gortat and he gave his new teammate a ride to the airport after Tuesday’s practice. Gortat said the two are already hitting it off.
“Nene was great from Day One. He was one of the first guys to call me. He was so excited I was coming to DC,” Gortat said. “I’ve known him for six years. True leader. True brother. True veteran. I’m excited I’m with him on the team. I’ll be able to say I played with Dwight Howard, Steve Nash and Nene.”
