Only other one that comes to mind.

Mesmerizing. Pure greatness. The ultimate competitor.

And afterwards all he talks about is how shitty he played.

I was invited to Las Vegas this past Summer to help Team USA with their conditioning before they head off to London, and as we know they would eventually bring home the Gold (USA). I've had the opportunity to work with Carmelo Anthony and Dwyane Wade in the past but this would be my first interaction with Kobe. We first met three days before the first scrimmage, on the day of the first practice, early July. It was a brief conversation where we talked about conditioning, where he would like to be by the end of the Summer, and we talked a little bit about the hustle of the Select Team. Then he got my number and I let him know that if he ever wanted some extra training he could hit me up any time.
The night before the first scrimmage I remember I was just watched "Casablanca" for the first time and it was about 3:30 AM. I lay in bed, slowly fading away when I hear my cell ring. It was Kobe. I nervously picked up.
"Hey, uhh Rob, I hope I'm not disturbing anything right?"
"Uhh no, what's up Kob?"
"Just wondering if you could just help me out with some conditioning work, that's all."
I checked my clock. 4:15 AM.
"Yeah sure, I'll see you in the facility in a bit."
It took me about twenty minutes to get my gear and out of the hotel. When I arrived and opened the room to the main practice floor I saw Kobe. Alone. He was drenched in sweat as if he had just taken a swim. It wasn't even 5AM.
We did some conditioning work for the next hour and fifteen minutes. Then we entered the weight room, where he would do a multitude of strength training exercises for the next 45 minutes. After that we parted ways and he went back to the practice floor to shoot. I went back to the hotel and crashed. Wow.
And then:
I was expected to be at the floor again at about 11 AM. I woke up feeling sleepy, drowsy, and almost pretty much every side effect of sleep deprivation. Thanks, Kobe. I had a bagel and headed to the practice facility.
This next part I remember very vividly. All the Team USA players were there, feeling good for the first scrimmage. LeBron was talking to Carmelo if I remember correctly and Coach Krzyzewski was trying to explain something to Kevin Durant. On the right side of the practice facility was Kobe by himself shooting jumpers. And this is how our next conversation went -- I went over to him, patted him on the back and said, "Good work this morning."
"Huh?"
"Like, the conditioning. Good work."
"Oh. Yeah, thanks Rob. I really appreciate it."
"So when did you finish?"
"Finish what?"
"Getting your shots up. What time did you leave the facility?"
"Oh just now. I wanted 800 makes so yeah, just now."
My jaw dropped. Mother of holy God...

I got to watch MJ his entire career but it was not the same for me since I was like 10 when he first came into the NBA. I knew he was great but I didn't fully get a grasp till much later. Being from the LA area I've been able to watch Kobe from up close (the local media). People can hate on the guy for who he is off the court....VK....but it's nearly impossible to hate him for what he is on the court. He works harder than anyone else. His desire to win is second to none. The guy is simply the hardest competitor in any sport in the last 15 years. He may be the last of the old breed as far as NBA players go. They are all clowns nowadays...no fucking way you'd catch Kobe doing a Harlem Shake video.

This stretch of the last ten or so games has been Kobe basically willing the Lakers to win. Pretty much nobody else on the team has any heart or desire to play on the defensive end of the floor and they all are pretty much ready to give up but Kobe simply will not let them. It's amazing to watch really. If this team makes the playoffs Kobe deserves the MVP award. I don't care what LBJ is doing in Miami, this Lakers team would be 10 games under .500 at least right now without Kobe.

No wonder him and Howard don't get along..

just a total clash of personalities. For Kobe there is no tomorrow and there never has been. For Dwight there will always be tomorrow until he wakes up one day and its too late. For Dwight it's just a game and he is having fun making millions, for Kobe it's his soul and he would probably be playing just as hard if it was free.

kobe lives for hoops and competition...howard cuz he is built like he is, uses hoops as a means to be a celeb and make money.

I don't remember people being more divided over a superstar than they are over Kobe. There are a lot of haters out there, especially in LA.

He can do it all on the court, and still balling almost like in his prime. It makes you sad to see how his team looks like this year (or in Smoush, Kwame years), imagine what kind of finals would be him vs Lebron if Lakers were any better.

Bump. This stretch has been going on now for well over a month. Without Vino they are at least 10 games under .500. Playing hurt, refusing to come out of the game and putting up numbers in every stat category needed to help the team win.

Lebron has had a great season but there is no player in the league that is more valuable to his team than Kobe this year. His play at 17 years in the league is mind boggling.

MVP IMO.

its laughable how much coverage a team fighing for the 8th seed gets!
they had like 20 game breaks to show the lakers portland game last night on espn... who cares

In their entire existence, including Minnesota they have missed the playoffs a total of 5 times. Believe it or not its news Wade.

Tons of people care, wade. Hell 90% of your posts are about how much u hate the lakers and kobe

A guy in his 17th year in the league dropped 47. I don't understand what your problem is

what my problem is??? nothing
i simply stated they are getting crazy coverage over fighting for the 8TH seed..

I just think its a shame that he will most likely not win the MVP in a year he deserves it. Kinda reminds me of the year he should have won it but it went to Nash.

Quite simply the league has never seen a player in his 17th season play like this before and it probably never will again.

wade you do other things in your life other than hating the lakers and their fans? just asking
