Boston as a dog and beat NYY today and yesterday. Lester is top quality and a lefty vs the horrid Yanks. Mussina is good but Boston can hit. I smell sweep.

Commentator made a really interesting point that the really good pitchers are ones that play the umpires as well as the hitter. He said Roger roids Clemens and Curt Shilling had a book that they recorded all the umpire tendencies. Denotes their game plan whether to pitch inside/out for the punch out pitch. I guess there are intangibles such as this that we dont calculate in our stats... Anyhow, thought it might interest some people..

kinda want to take a line on Eveland +130 vs the Twins.

Blackburn has lost 3 in a row and 2 of those games were utter trash. Oddly the 8 inning tough luck 3-2 loss to the A's was sandwiched in between those crappy outings.

But I'm of the mind that its to the batter's advantage to face a pitcher again that soon.

Then you factor in road game, night game, outdoor and grass game and Blackburn's ERA is flirting into 5 ERA territory.

probably make this one in a little bit.

t/wreck need to see the box scores tonight. Oakland is going to have to decide soon which game they are going to go for.

And houston has the Cardinals coming in so Maybe you should be looking at Harang instead of Backe. Also I for one am very interested in Texas first 5 tomorrow.

Funny you say that I remember a few years back they showed one of those 2 pitchers on TV writing stuff in a small book after each inning. :shake:

Bottom of the 7th if Oakland wants to win they bring in Devine. If they do not they are giving the game away and waiting on Minn.

just got back from the Bronx game....man my Yankees blow....had a great time though....except whenever I would glance at the scoreboard....terrible...terrible day....im going to bed now....might as well just take the Sox tomorrow....

Play on Oakland seriously weakened. Oakland waited forever but down to needing 5 outs to cash a divisional win they brought in Ziegler. May be a play anyway but with greatly weakened pen not to good.

i like the ATL over right now, but also think the Philly line is beggin for money on the Phils.

not sure if i want anything cuz this card blows for the 2nd straight night

I don't know why i have some love on Texas.. LAA is just 5-9 last 14 and i think Texas can steal 1 here after sweeping KC. Away team is 6-3 this year with Garland going 0-1 (4-10 loss) against Texas. Well, McCarthy did win against LAA last year (5-4 win).

WOW! Peter Puck. There's a blast from the past. Haven't seen that picture in years. Great avatar. Sorry for wasting a post in a productive thread but PP made my day!

Normally I'd agree if Hamels is getting plus money, but there are several factors that favor the Cubs.

1. Cubs are amazing at home.
2. Phillies bullpen is worn out.
3. Phillies travel to Chicago late last night.
4. Dempster is pretty damn good himself and better at home.
5. Phillies might not have a lot of emotional juice/focus after playing New York.

Hamels is capable of dominating at anytime and could win this game on his own, but in this case the line looks accurate to me.

Good Morning All,

Since SN hasn't showed up yet, I am going to do a "poor" man's imitation of him. I know he liked the Yanks yesterday, so I am going to give some interesting points that might suggest taking them today to avoid the sweep that has a little merit.

I looked up Mussina's record vs Boston and he was 1-1 this year, It was a 2-1 home win on 7/5 vs Masterson. He threw 6 innings of shut out ball. Drew was 3 1 2, Manny ph 1 0 0, and Lowell was 4 0 1=8 1 3.

The other game was on 4/12 at Boston vs Beckett. He went 5.2 inns and gave up 4 runs including a Hr to Manny. Drew was 3 0 0, Manny was 4 2 2 with 3 RBI's, and Lowell did not play=7 2 2 3 and 1 HR. So their combined production was 15 3 5 3 rbi's +1HR=.333 missing out of lineup today.

Not to be outdone by SN, we went back to 2007 and 2006, (Since these three Boston players were on the team and Damon, Giambi. ARod, and Cano were also playing, this is relevant!) On 5/22, Mussina lost 3-7 at home vs Tavarez. He went 6.2 innings giving up 7 runs and 2 HR's hit by Manny and Lowell! Drew was 4 0 0, Manny 4 1 1 3 RBI's, and Lowell was 4 1 2 1=12 3 4 2 Hr's=.333

In 2006, On 9/22, Mussina lost at home 4-5 vs Jarvis. He went 6.2, gave up 2 runs including a HR to Trot Nixon. Manny and Lowell were a combined 4 for 6=.667. On 6/5, Mussina won at home 13-5 vs Beckett. He went 6 nnings giving up 4 eras and a HR to Mirabelli. Mannny and Lowell were 2 for 4. All together Drew, Manny, and Lowell were 11 for 30 with 3 Hr's.

Lester has beaten NYY twice this year, but for sake of time I will not go into the details except to say he lost his other start vs the Yanks in 2006 in a ND 11-14 loss in which Manny had TWO HR's! He gave up 7 runs in 3.2 innings including a Hr by Damon.

In conclusion, Since Molina has caught EVERY game that Mussina has pitched this year, my fear of IRod catching is not a factor. Mussina is used to big game situations and Lester is coming off a shellacking! He could very well rebound today, but with all the firepower that hurt Mussina not playing today, I will take my chances that Jason Bay won't be able to make up for them.

OK, SN, this Bud's for you!

Yankees are a good day team and predominantly post under results with the W during the day. The way their offense is, that's exactly the type of game this has to be for them to win..

Funny you say that I remember a few years back they showed one of those 2 pitchers on TV writing stuff in a small book after each inning. :shake:

That's definitely Curt Shilling. He records every single pitch that he throws after each inning. Guy is a student of the game, not the most talented, but a true professional.:shake:

I just can't play the Yanks today....have to take Lester....Yanks are done....they know it....they will not show anymore heart the rest of the season....FADE AWAY!!!!

Yanks are done, but this is still a rival series. They are likely to win here, imo. not with my money though.. I'm on that under with the predominant day under stat that the yanks post at yanks stadium..

UNDER YANKS-SOX should be a solid play, it could hit unless member/s of the pen mess it up

passing on the side but moose i believe is 7-0 in home day games

Like the under in washington off a high scoring affair...We also got Barry BHP to make things better. Kershaw will rebound here pretty well against a shitty nats lineup.

Since we have now "offically" posted a winner here, we will ask when and what time can you get the umpire for tonights Phil/Cub game.

Here is the weather from BleedCubbieBlue.com a poor sap that has very good writeups for the games and goes to every home game as a fan and just "roots" for the Cubs but never makes a wager!:36_11_6:That to me is a "TOTAL" waste of time as I want to be paid for my efforts. I would much rather blow $50 on a game which is what the expenses are to go, and if I lose I'm not out anything, but if I win, then I'm paid something for wasting my time watching some spoiled overplaid prima-donnas playing a child's game!!!

Wrigley Field
Cole Hamels vs Ryan Dempster
<!--
weather_mostly_cloudy_rain.v5805
-->Mostly cloudy with a 50-percent chance of rain. Winds blowing OUT to center field at 5-10 m.p.h. Game Time temperature: Around 80.

Last night the wind was blowing IN, so there might be a slight chance that the total "might" go over 8 depending on the ump, the pitching styles of both pitchers and the stamina and motivation of the Phils coming off a tough loss!

Thank you all for the input about the Yanks daytime record, etc. and the encoragement from GH about the ump. I got very greedy and played the 1st 5- 1/2 and the ML and RL, and also took Cinc 1st half under and +1/2 and Cinc ML and under 9 "risking" around $400, so made $70 thanks to the totals. Oh well, I don't think you can go broke making a small profit!:shake:

Litsch's success comes during the day as the visibility of his balls are higher at night.. I would not back the jays here against a strong home team. Edwin Jackson has also been quietly making a huge impact with about 4 quality starts in a row. Low k-rate is concerning to me, but i would lean to the rays/over... no play though..

Played the Atl over 9.5 -130. Morton has been a pinata lately and walking a ton of guys. Sanchez not too great road splits, so Atl should be able to help the cause. Both bullpens have been getting whacked the last couple of games as well. Cousins more over tendencies last 2 mos.

Florida 0-10 SU off their last 10 wins.

LAD 2-10 SU on the road with Manny present.

Ahhhhh...

WAS & ATL - :36_11_6::36_11_6::36_11_6::36_11_6::36_11_6:

Thanks -BC

From my bookie: How the ... Fxxx.. you are winning 3 in a row in baseball !
