For anyone comparing this WS to the 2006 Tigers/Cards WS, there are 2 big gaps in that act IMO -
(1) The Cardinals core unit of players had been to the NLCS for 3 straight seasons leading into to making that 06 WS, and had lost a WS in 1 of the previous 2 seasons. What that adds up to is a ton of experience. Thats experience the Tigers did not have as a core unit, although they obviously had individuals with signifcant WS experience of their own. The unit won out against individualism.
(2) The Tigers could not take a walk to save their lives in that WS, the most obvious and identifiable reason they lost. Cardinals dodgy starting pitching outside of Carpenter got away with throwing garbage for strikes because the free swinging Tigers could not lay off pitches. Cardinals didn't hammer Tigers pitching, they won it with defense built on Tiger impatience.
Neither team for the 08 WS can be said to have the experience edge. But Tampa had run the gauntlett a whole season to win the toughest division in baseball (the AL East's 4th best team was 10 games over .500) while Philly, already playing in the weaker elague generally, had no such similar task to harden them (the NL East's 4th best team was 18 games under .500).
As for the Rays succumbing to the Tigers malaise, those Tigers played only 8 games prior to making that WS (they swept the ALCS) - things coming too easy too early in the p.s. did nothing to temper their plate impatience. One feels that losing game's 5 & 6 to Boston, and having to win Game 7 without the luxury of a ton of base hits & RBIs will be a valuble lesson re: them not repeating the Tigers lack-of-patience mistake.
Far be it for my saying Philly cannot win, but IMO comparisons between this WS & that of 2006 are completely erroneous.

I predicted the Rays would win the WS when the playoffs begun and I am confident they still will. I also predicted that the Rays would win in 6 against Boston but they won in 7. The TB in 4 was just to get you Phillies fans all riled up. I honestly think this is going to be a damn good series. Not a Boston/TB series. The pitching advantage is clearly in favor of the Rays. Hamels is the only pitcher that scares me on the Philly staff. Myers has pitched well but can explode on the mound at any time. Bullpen would probably give a slight edge to Philly. Both teams can run and hit well. This has all the makings of Game 7 all over again. GL Philly fans.

No chance, Phils are hungry as fuck. The Phillies will make the Rays earn this. It won't be an easy series for Tampa if they win.
I love the way this series is setting up, with TB/boston going to 7, and the "red hot rays" fresh in the public minds.
Whereas the phills took care of the hottest team in baseball in 5 games, have been resting and licking thier chops, so because theyre not fresh in peoples minds theyre flying in "under the radar".
Anyone who thinks TB will win this in 4 or 5 is on heroin.

Not really, it's not a mismatch with Hamels pitching like he has. Myers has been hit or miss but more hit lately.If Moyer gets the right umpire in game 3, he will mow down a young team like the Rays.
