TEX is a YANKEE

Some crazy things ....

From 2001 to 2017 ARod will have earned 460 million and possible slightily more playing baseball . Nearly 186 million on the original deal that lasted from 01 to 07(was 10yrs 252 million but reworked with the recent extension) and 08-17 the current 10 yr deal pays 275 million ! Starting this year Arod's salaries are 32 , 32 and 31 MILLION !!!!!!!!Remember Texas paid NY 67 million of AROD's salary and also kicks in 3 million a year in 08 to 10.....

In 25 years the Yanks went from a 10 MILLION dollar purchase by George and partners to estimated worth of 1.3 BILLION by Forbes in 2008 !!!!!

Opening Day payrolls for 25-man roster
(salaries plus pro-rated signing bonuses)
:

 • 2008: $209,081,577
 • 2007: $189,639,045
 • 2006: $194,663,079
 • 2005: $208,306,817
 • 2004: $184,193,950
 • 2003: $152,749,814
 • 2002: $125,928,583
 • 2001: $112,287,143
 • 2000: $107,588,459
Jeter's amd Rivera 's salary in 96 was 130 K , 97 550K , 98 750K and 99 finally 5 million ....while Mo got 4.25 million

Burnett was off a 5 yr 55 million deal gets bumped to 5 yrs 82 million

Look @ Boston's current payroll ....

Beckett FA soon only avgs 10 million because he made 3 when Boston acquired him.

Bay FA after this year hiked up to 7.5 million probably gets double that at least next contract

Youk still in arbtration phase only made 3 million . What would he command as FA ?

Okajima FA after 2009 makes about 2 million will get raise

Papelbon made 775 K in 08

Lester 400K ....

very easy to see how Boston will see a 50 million spike in salary per season..:shake:

Good stuff, SN :shake:

One thing to note though...

In 25 years the Yanks went from a 10 MILLION dollar purchase by George and partners to estimated worth of 1.3 BILLION by Forbes in 2008 !!!!!

This is true, but not the whole picture. If you combine the Yankees and the YES network, we're talking about an entity valued at roughly 4 billion.
In comparison...if you combine the BoSox and NESN, we're talking about an entity valued at roughly 1 billion.

Only bringing that up because i do understand & recognize the advantages NY enjoys...regardless of what MLB does in the future, in terms of attempting to level the field.

anyways...the bottom line is that the yanks have improved the product their offering, and they've reduced the overall cost of doing so. when looking at it from their perspective, it's a win/win. when looking at it from one of those differing perspectives, it's still the same story.

but as a yankee fan...in this unique situation that's the '08 offseason for them...i'd much rather see them spend their $ on the top FAs, w/out losing their wealth of young talent in the process...because, yes, many of the FA signings since '01 have been poor.
so this is a much better course of action for the organiztion, this offseason, comparatively. and besides...hardly anyone realizes that the yanks have a top 3 or 4 minor league system...which they haven't been routinely dumping, thanks to cashman.

if you have the money and you want to spend it then who cares if they buy every single player. The Yankee's owe nothing to baseball, they want to win for their fans, and they are doing what they have to do. Yank's is right, people are just jealous. Thats why people hated the Patriots, its why people hate the Celtics. People will always find a way to hate a team at the top or that is known to be on the top. Whether its getting an unfair advantage or having unclassy fans.

And the city is helping them with the new stadium? As a Giants (sf) fan I love the fact that ownership payed 100% of the costs of the new stadium. Nothing pisses me off more than cities being held hostage to finance stadiums for teams. Not saying that happened at all with NY, just a random rant.

With the costs of stadiums, it is inconceivable that any owner today can pay for it out of pocket, except in very unique situations. City/counties still pick up millions of dollars in infrastructure costs as well.

Think the Stadium is at 1.3 billion to 1.6 billion in costs so far and the Yankees are paying for it almost all ...if you have ever parked at the old Yankee Stadium you can understand how the city is paying for some of that....this is the breakdown based on 1.02 BILLION in spending

Public financing: $220 million from New York City for parking facilities ($75 million), parkland along the waterfront ($135 million) and other work related to the stadium.
Private financing:
$800 million from the Yankees

Parking lots and garages
Aside from existing parking lots and garages serving the stadium, construction for additional parking garages is planned. The New York State Legislature agreed to $70 million in subsidies for a $320 million parking garage project. On October 9, 2007, the New York City Industrial Development Agency approved $225 million in tax-exempt bonds to finance construction of three new parking garages that will have 3,600 new parking spaces, and renovation of the existing 5,569 parking spaces nearby.[11] Plans initially called for a fourth new garage, but this was eliminated before the final approval. The garages will be built (and renovated) by the Community Initiatives Development Corporation of Hudson, N.Y., a nonprofit entity that will use the parking revenue to repay the (...?) and pay a $3 million annual land lease to the City of New York. Parking is expected to cost $25 per game.[11]

Michael Bloomberg, who succeeded Giuliani as mayor, exercised the escape clause in the agreements to back out of both deals, saying that the city could not afford to build new stadiums for the Yankees and Mets. Bloomberg said that unbeknownst to him, Giuliani had inserted a clause in this deal which loosened the teams' leases with the city and would allow the Yankees and Mets to leave the city on 60 days' notice to find a new home elsewhere if the city backed out of the agreement.[6][7] At the time, Bloomberg said that publicly funded stadiums were a poor investment. Under Bloomberg, the New York City government would only offer public financing for infrastructure improvements; the teams would have to pay for the stadiums themselves. Bloomberg called the former mayor's agreements "corporate welfare." Giuliani had already been instrumental in the construction of taxpayer-funded minor league baseball facilities KeySpan Park for the Mets' minor league Brooklyn Cyclones and Richmond County Bank Ballpark for the Staten Island Yankees

Credit Bloomberg for sure he stepped in and said no way is the city paying for this..this thing costs 4 x what Camden Yards cost....again the price of doing business in NY.

In today's NYPost an article about the Yankee spending but in the business section...

http://www.nypost.com/seven/12282008/business/payroll_queeze_146147.htm

Somethings I learned that or were clarified:
Yanks pay about 25- 30% of their revenue into the revenue sharing pool . Which has basically been about 100Million paid the last few seasons .

Tickets ? expect 4 million and they have avg 4.2 million past few I believe at $ 55 avg ticket price thats 230 million in revenue ...have to think the avg price is a tad higher though and attendance should increase . Expect 250 million from ticket sales .

Yes Fees and Sponsors ADs anywhere bewteen 130-150 million a season

Luxury boxes ? Only 19 at the old Stadium but 51 here .....

Price tag ...600K to 850K ...want to chip in ? okay about 35 million in revenues

Have read that revenues shoudl increase by 50 million a season with the new park what that includes I have no idea . Food , ticket sales , parking , and any souvenirs maybe ...

Pretty much if we look at it seems reasonable that the Yanks take in 500 million this season and in recent years ....

Remember that 100 million in Revenue sharing they have been uhm sharing ? They get to deduct their stadium costs which are about 85 million a year ......

Remember the 80 million sliced in payroll ??

CASH COW !!!!!!!!! I would guess most franchises dont crack 200 million in revenues amd few exceed 300 million.....no one gets near 400 or 500 million .....

Just remember FINANCING means borrowing and they some LINE of credit which could run out despit their financial success in a struggling economic world.....

Even I am just beginning to understand how much revenue NYY takes in but in fairness who pays 100 million into revenue sharing and not sure that even includes the Luxury tax bill !

Also essentially you guys are right the city giving the Yanks 1 billion is tax free bonds is not exactly financing ...
