Super Bowl Discussion - San Francisco vs. Kansas City

Lines have opened anywhere from pk to 1.5 for the past few hours.

BOL posted a 2.5 before the SF game...

51.5 to 52 has been the opening totals.

I'd expect total gets bet up initially.
 
seeing it up to 53.5 now. KC been the favorite according to all the futures all week, so not surprising they open the chalk.

I took niners +170 to win SB before the day started. Couldn’t really understand why they were +170 and kc was +135? Not sure who I like as much as just didn’t understand the difference in lines considering I had more confidence in niners than kc today.

my 1st thought is kinda this. Had niners all came down with a life threatening illness and got beat by packers and the sb was kc/pack I would expect that to be a close game. I didn’t expect niners/pack to be close at all (which it wasn’t). Must mean I think niners the better team?

Niners the most complete team in league imo. Their running game gonna be way tougher to stop than titans was cause you have to respect their passing game.

This gonna be a tough one for mahomes, you know he gonna be under more pressure than he been prob at any time ever.. he a bad mofo no doubt, can he elude that niners rush? I think you can make plays vs that secondary if you can find a way to have time, especially with all those weapons kc has!! Think kc success on offense all comes down to can they find time for mahomes?

I don't know if that is so. These are just thoughts randomly

1. Mahomes will not have the time in pocket with SF pass rush

2. Jimmy G has not had to pass & their run game burns more clock...although the chunk running yards clock is not as slowed down

3. SF cannot run as effectively agst KC as they did agst GBay and Jimmy G forced to pass - Kittle may be key to game?

4. SF great D Line and they have Sherman to take away who?


I lean KC TT Over as of right now, but not going to quickly take that or the game OVER just yet

well nobody can run as effectively as niners did against packers!! That was the most pathetic defensive effort I’ve seen in memory. Niners basically told them they were gonna hand off every play and were getting 10 a pop! It wasn’t no 10 ypc aided by huge runs either, that was most legit 10 per carry I might have ever seen!! Lol.

I think niners will run very effectively but more so in a way that should help the under as I think you implying? Kc can’t stuff box like they did against Henry. I guess they can but niners capable of making ya pay for that! Might still be the way to go? i don’t think jimmy g gets credit he deserves but one thing true about him is he will give teams 2-3 shots a game to pick him. Only one today but that cause he only threw 8 passes!! pack had their hands on one early tonight. So force them to throw and gotta pick him on those few chances he gives your d.

I don’t think Sherman capable of taking away any kc wrs. I suppose he is combined with pressure but they put him on a Island against Watkins or hill and mahomes has time and he will get torched imo. Of course I don’t suspect that be the case. Niners front 4 allows them to keep safety help over the top.
 
Watching my titans at kc today what stood out was we got zero pressure on Maholmes. He had all day to either throw or tuck it down and run. Can SF get pressure on him? They certainly have a much better pass rush than we do, and if they can put Maholmes under duress they got a shot. I don’t care how good your d is, if you don’t get any pressure on that guy you ain’t stopping him, dudes too good and will pick you apart w the little dump offs, Kelce over the middle, or the chunk plays down field to hill and the WRs, and oh yeah, you take that away he will run lol.

I really can’t come up w a logical reason not to just ride w Niners +170 I got before today’s games? Wanting Kc to win doesn’t really qualify does it? Lol. Maybe tease Niners/over now then hope line flips and tease Kc/over later? Im not 100% sold the over some lock but at 48 I feel pretty good. Think I expect both teams to reach 24.,

I don’t think niners secondary has a prayer if mahomes has time. Of course as I mentioned above I fully expect mahomes probably be under more pressure than he has ever faced. Andy gonna have to throw the kitchen sink screen game Wise at them early on I think.

Sherman is stationary on his side. Tyreek lines up everywhere including about 35% of time in slot. I’d doubt we see much of that matchup. They’ll probably throw a sacrificial lamb out to the right side unless they want to go deep on Sherm like Devante did for 60 tonight. Then again if Tyreek over there I bet Sherm gets safety help. I’d run Hardman over there and throw a 9 at some point.

I agree here. It’s impossible to stop them if he’s clean in the pocket and has time. Tenn has a below average pass rush, and did some good things schematically but he just had way too much time to process things and take the short throws or run. The niners generate a good deal of pressure without blitzing, it will be interesting to see if they can harass Maholmes and force him into quick decisions with the football with just their DL and letting their LB and secondary play coverage.

Doubt Sherman is on hill very much. I expect kc to have him in the slot a lot and get him on LB and slot CBs

I think it pretty much inevitable Niners pass rush is gonna get into the backfield. The question To me is can mahomes elude it or Andy scheme around it by moving him and screens to try and wear them out?

Nah, always been zone stationary corner back to Sea days. Just plays his one side. It’s why he’s so sensitive when guys like Revis etc have called him out.

I listened to 1st half on radio as well so cant be much help. Was he on adams the play adams got behind the d? That was one of only few plays I recall there not beinga safety over the top.

Yes, Sherm was completely burned by Adams, who’s not known as a burner but turned him around. Sherm looked old AF chasing. It’s why beef with him is warranted.

Everyone is praising kc d too, I mean sure, they limited Henry, and did a great job, but Henry was pretty much a one man show. Sf is way more balanced if it needs to be. They can maul you on the ground and have more weapons in the pass game (deebo, sanders, kittle, etc). There are plays to be made on that d and can’t see them getting away w playing goal line type d against sf
 
Almost religiously I take the less flashy, better defensive team in Super Bowls and let the chips fall. But Mahomes, Andy off bye, ugh. This one is tough but should be fantastic. So nice to see new blood and teams with great O and great D oppose each other. Football porn.

it is definitely way more interesting to me than most the recent ones, very exciting.

that what makes Niners so damn good and maybe why they dont get the kind of respect we usually see from a team who been so dominate (when healthy), so many plus players but don’t have the big name they have to rely on. Even Hoody would have a nightmare With this team cause what do you take away?

Shanny has so many options and is the best in the business designing plans that attack opponents weakness rather than being stuck on having to do it one way! Against Vikings he came out throwing practically every play early on and got lead before leaning on run game. Don’t think anyone was surprised today was gonna be run heavy but to this extent! He found something early and just continued hammering it cause pack never stopped it.

I give Kc defense and spags way more credit, I assume they will adjust and not continue getting gashed over and over by the Run or whatever they get attacked with 1st, but then shanny will adjust and run plays that look the same yet opposite of what Kc ready for. Problem for chiefs is how can their pass rush be as effective when they have to be prepared to stop the run? Shanny will carve them up if they put their heads down trying to get to jimmy g. I’ve seen Niners pick up more 1st on 3rd and passing situations with runs plays than maybe anyone. That offense is just so diverse.

if im spags/kc I think I flat out take the run away like they did to Henry today. It will absolutely lead to them getting carved some thru the air but I think you live with it and come in saying if we can force jimmy g to throw it 30+ times he will throw 2-3 balls we can get our hands on., we have to make those plays. kc offense will have to be able to match for this strategy to work but not sure there a better way. The real problem w stacking the box is Niners got some straight beast after the catch!!
 
You could have gotten SF +3 vs KC at some points (more often +2.5) this week in the look ahead. Lot of overreaction (or perhaps correction) after today’s games.

the points in the discussion are very valid. But I think everyone is best served by forgetting what they saw here today in both games, and evaluate these two teams against each other one on one. The Titans and Packers were extremely flawed teams. As a capper I’m not going to overreact to today. This is strength vs strength for all the marbles. Will be fun to dig in.

as a fan, I’m just going to enjoy this for a bit.

todays games really meant nothing far as my opinion of the next: they both played out pretty similar to how I expected for a change. My only point about either loser today was if pack was playing Kc think I’d give them a much better chance than I did against Niners.
