Whip 1.18, ERA 2.61, O/U 0-6 - avg 5.83 runs/game, Angels 5-1 SU

At home vs .500+ teams

looks like neither pitcher should be too pleased to be squaring off against a decent opponent on ESPN Sunday night baseball - both carrying 0-5 SU team results for their venue specific spots that encompass this match-up.

Should be Schreiber tomorrow in Cin.

thank blankets for that. I'll switch it up.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

A study in extremes, the Mets last 27 games of all-or-nothing offense in the normal 9 regulation inns -

7, 1, 3, 2, 0, 8, 15, 0, 2, 3, 1, 7, 7, 11, 2, 9, 2, 10, 7, 5, 7, 2, 3, 7, 10, 2 & 2 run totals.

14 totals of 0-3 runs.
_1 total of 4-6 runs.
12 totals of 7+ runs.

Gibson in Baltimore behind the plate and Burres on the mound for the O's. Tigers 10-3 on the road vs. LH's scoring 5.15 rpg. I played 9.5 o25 there.

WS should be money for many reasons. Monday we have the Detroit-KC connection. A lot of teams hate each other but that one seems special.

Regarding the NY under, I understand it looks very reasonable. We know NY tends to go under in day games. We like the umpire and the starting pitchers---. My sole problem with the play is that it has not played that way in NY this year on Sunday. There have been 7 Yankee Sunday games. 4 went over. 2 went under and one landed on 9 which was a push.

"Whats up fellas ...quick comments on Yanks game.

I understand where Rex is coming from with his Joba observation but its really not true . He is still in that power pitcher , amped up reliever , strikeout mode where he is setting up hitters and throwing his filthest pitch everytime rather then focusing on just throwing strikes . Which is why his pitch counts get high qucikly at times . I think Girardi especially should be aware of this mindset. Trying to teach him so not as much as to pitch to contact but teach him to save his best fastball or slider when he has 2 strikes on batters or is in a tight spot . Posada also said his last start was the best curveball that Joba has had so far in 2008 ....

Last outing he had the shaky 4th inning and nearly unhittable the rest. He walked ZERO batters and STRUCKOUT 9. Granted he has walked 21 as a SP (think 42 INN or 4.50 BB per 9 as a SP) and 4 on many ocassions and never went 7 innings. I think its more his approach then command. My opinion though...Think today is clearly a day with some rest after the Break that he can throw 7 innings or better .

OAK lineup outside of the game vs Garland in its past 10 has not had double digit hits and yesterdays 9 was the 2nd highest total ( all off Moose by the way) . Mussina to Joba much diferent stuff we all agree. Look at what the Yankee pen did vs them. If you missed it 3 perfect innings with 6 Ks and that was Robertson -Ramirez-Hawkins who had his 2 seamer working . Also Oak 3-21 L3 games with RISP......

1 3 4 2 4 3 9 1 3 1 Oak runs past 10 games

1 4 0 1 4 5 4 4 1 Yanks runs allowed last 9 games

So we can see Yanks pitching fairly well lately and Oak not doing much on offense . In 4 games so far vs NYY the A's have scored 1 run in three of them and 8 when Rasner started .

Since ARod came back vs BALT :

Yanks RUNS allowed at home has been a study of extremes as BetCrimes would say: ( by series - the 1 game series was the makeup game vs NYM)

12 0 1
2 6 5
9 1 8
2 11 3 3
0 5 1
4 6 1
15
2 3 7
7 6 1 4
0 1
1

16 games allowed 3 Runs or less (12-4 W-L ) / (1-14-1 Over )
2 games 4 runs (1-1 W-L)
12 games 5 + runs ( 5 of them 8+ runs) (6-6 W/L)

19-11 W-L (12-10 vs RHP and 7-1 vs LHP)

Always tough to predict things after the AS Break . However one thing I do feel holds true is this weather in day games is really a power pitchers best friend. I remember 2 days I had one of better Fastballs was a 100+ degree game I won 1-0 on Father Days in the ACBL Summer League ( Local College wood bat summer league , weaker version of the Cape Cod League) and another college game down in Fla ....ahh the good old days anyway point is you walk to the hill your loose as could be and usually it just jumps out of your hand.

Enter Joba and Gallagher ....both clearly fit the mold.

Yanks showed patience early yesterday getting something like 14 baserunners in teh first 4 innings ....Always the key with there offense. They had Cano's stats with bases loaded yesterday and career he is like .208 . Basically because he doesnt work the pitcher ever so being over agressive when the pitcher is in a jam clearly negates the situation and pressure on him to be perfect .

Also important remember Sean Gallagher falls into the NEVER SEEN Category that Yanks seem to struggle with ....

Think it might be a great chance to dabble with Yanks ML and Under Parlay and A's +1.5 RL to Under parlay ...

Remember Yanks 12-4 allowing 3 runs or less since ARod returned but just as important 14-1-1 UNDER in those games as well

If yesterdays game couldnt go over then todays matchup is tougher IMO ...

Yanks also 22-8 UNDER in day games .....

Going to play the parlays more on the Yank ML then A's +1.5 RL to UNDERS

Play :
Yanks 1st 5 inn Under 4.5 runs
Under 8.5 runs as well....

Not overly strong... "

That was post in yesterdays thread about NYY . Which thanks to the HBP led me to a huge start on the day in that game . Yanks 1st score of game , NO 1st INN score , 1st 5 innings under , game under , Yanks ML , A's +1.5 RL , Yanks ML & Under parlayed , A's +1.5 & Under parlayed .

Some things that stand out to me for Sunday :

Duchscherer is now cheaper vs Pettitte then he was vs Joba . Probably not a good sign if you like Oakland here . Which before I started looking at this I did lean. Pettitte @ Oak was -110 vs Blanton where Dursch was only -120 vs Rasner. So rather cheap @ -140 IMO for NYY .

I know everyone is gaga over JD and rightfully so but the flaw in his "greatness" IMO is that only 3 teams have faced him twice CLE , LAA and Seattle . Which two of them cant hit (CLE and SEA) and the other (LAA) went through a long stretch where they couldnt hit . he has battled a throat infection , was a bit shaky in the AS game , and Giambi is 5-7 lifetime with 2 HRs and we have seen the Yankee LHs at the bottom of the order come alive . His road splits arent weak but his home stats are so great they look very weak - .144 BAA at home vs .244 on the road or 66 inn with 32 hits at home vs 42.2 inn and 39hits. His day splits are solid but not as tight as night . Think 8 runs in 4 days starts but 14earned and 19 runs in 12 night starts. Also LH are .204 compared to .144 for RHBs and we know NYY will flood the order with LHs.

Limited work @ Yankee Stadium just 2 games 1.1 inn 3h 3r 2 er 1Hr 1k plus the recent AS appearance.

A's only 4-10 AWAY vs LHSP and 11-3 UNDER in those games .
Both SP have excellent outings for wins vs the opponents in 2008.

Talked about Pettitte's streaks in an earlier post for him think after the RedSox flub . Anyway started winning 3 of 4 starts then LOST 5 straight which similar thing shappened in 2007. Since the slide ended he has won 8 of 11 starts and NOT LOST consecutive starts or NYY has not lost consecutive starts by Pettitte despite alternating Wins and Losses past 4 . In 2007 Pettitte lost 6 of his 1st 7 starts and then went 6-6 over his next 12 which seemingly always were mini streaks. After his July 1st start which concluded a 3 start losing streak which was the end of the above mentioned 12 game stretch Yanks won 14 of Pettitte's last 17 reg season starts . They DID NOT LOSE consecutive starts in that span. So my point is we know Pettitte's repetition as a 2nd H SP but he also does well in avoiding consecutive losses in starts as the year wears on. He lost his last start @ Tor and think about how he was -140ish away vs Burnett. Clearly expensive in Toronto does he become to cheap here ??

Yanks pitching in 2 games has 5 bbs and 30K 's where OAK's has 18 bb 13 Ks . Outside of Friday night neither team has performed well with runners in scoring position . For NYY they probably will be w/o Roberston and Ramirez on Sunday while Oak has used Blevins and DiNardo twice plus moved Braden into the rotation. Neither closer pitched well on Sat and Mo has really struggled in these tie games while Street blew the LAA game on Sunday and this one.

Yanks are 18-14 at home with ARod vs RHSP. Oak as I mentioned is 4-10 vs LHSP away .

Even though Yanks probably didnt deserve to win the SAT game which tends to make me look @ oak started to feel Yanks being undervalued here .

At -140 Yanks are an implied 58% but @ +130 A's about 44% . . Yanks winning .562 of there home games vs RHSP w/ ARod but Oak only .286 of there games vs LHSP. Yanks have struggled with OAK setup guys but still think we agree Yanks with Rivera against Street have the closers edge . Both SP likely to go deep games although no one knows the extent of JD's throat infection and what the heat and humidty will due to his fatigue factor. So really on the surface dont see how NYY would not have at least a 60% chance of winning this game. Enhanced by Oak 's struggles away vs LHSP .

As for the total dont really like the UNDER . First 2 games did everything possible to stay UNDER IMO. Tons of baserunners both days. Both SP being seen for the 2nd time by respected clubs and both pens basically emptied so far . So no suprises were the 1st 2 games all 4 SP had NOT faced the opponent . Looking at the OVER hoping it goes to 7.5 runs...

Yanks are 7-7 allowing 4 runs or more at home since ARod returned ...

So Lean Over and NYY ML......GL:cheers: all.....

Also expect OAK 2 start only LHBs Ryan Sweeney and Carlos Gonzalez . See Pettitte's splits for the clearer picture .....

Also JD away prices recently:

+112 @ WSox won 3-2 ( WS very RH lineup)
+127 @ Zona won 15-1 ( Zona very RH lineup)
-110 @ Texas Lost 3-1 (pitched well)

So is OAK to cheap or NYY to cheap ??? Thinking Yanks are

pelfrey has given up 1 run in his last 22 inns (3 stars: cards, giants, rocks) and 5 in his last 32.2 (+ NYY & Col)

two shutouts vs. the rockies might skew things, but its still an impressive streak.

volquez is volquez. under 9 in cinci looks tempting.

phils, rays, twins, yanks and chisox all look solid, but the juice sucks. maybe 1st 5 to get better odds on the ones i decide to play.

Do you guys know if there is any cleaner that can get bloodstains out of my underwear ?

On a less serious note , wondering if i could get y'alls opinions on the toronto/tampa affair ....

I think the opposite about Pelfrey. he has sizable difference between home and road starts (2.35 ERA vs 5.57), and recent starts against shitassed teams have him overvalued (as the Mets are generally). I think the Reds get their runs, and I think the Mets off 2 consecutive 2 run totals, given their current all-or-nothing offensive bent aren't going to be held down 3 straight in this park (Volquez 5-1-1 to Over last 7, with 5 opponents scoring 4 or more - the Under & Push were road games).

You also have to wonder at any psychological hangover for Volquez off blowing the AS game.

ok nice. wasn't aware of pelfreys home & away splits.

checking volquez's game log, he was off (by his standards at least) vs tor, pit & wash before turning it around vs. mil prior to the all star break.

and yah the mets going quiet the past few games is a concern too. they're due. haven't been touching totals for a few weeks now and im better off for it i think. probably best to just lay off.

Almost definetly playing Toronto ML . Think L4 vs LH all away Rays managed 4 runs 2-0-2-0 Sowers - Lee - Laffey - Pettitte. Parrish seems to have his shit together like the prospect he was many moons ago before all the injuries . Jays lost a tough game Fri , almost rallied from 8-0 before losing 6-4 today.....take my chances..

Pelfrey has won 8 of his last 9 starts and 7 of those starts were high quality. I think it might be reasonable to assume he always had talent but had mental hangups. Betting against him is very dangerous.

Pelfrey has won 8 of his last 9 starts and 7 of those starts were high quality.

Thats true, but 6 of those quality starts were against the NL West, 4 of which being at his preferred venue. The 3 teams who weren't NL Westers scored 11 ERs off 18 IP. The merits for judging a pitcher "only" on his results vs the NL West's offenses is certainly debatable (he caught Colorado last start minus Helton, Tulowitzki, Spilborghs, Iannetta and Taveras - lucky guy).

No one knows. SF Chronicle says "he is feeling better" and that was a few days ago, but I don't think the kid will be 100%.

Even if he is, Parra is filthy (0 ERs in 4 out of last 6 starts) and Brew crew winning games.

Jaime Garcia will make his first major league start next Sunday against the Padres. "Garcia is here, so we should see what he can do," said pitching coach Dave Duncan. "It's a good spot to see how he handles himself." He tossed two scoreless innings in relief on Friday night, but his fastball topped out at 90 mph and he couldn't seem to locate his curveball. The 22-year-old was 7-6 with a 3.73 ERA between Double-A and Triple-A this season, while fanning 98 batters in 103 2/3 innings. He projects as a solid third starter, but it'd be ill-advised to expect big things this season

Garcia looked very bad in 4 of his last 5 minor starts. The Padres are so bad now you simply can not play them straight up but it is a good spot for them. Padres have Monday off while the Cardinals face the Brewers. Cardinal pen is pretty bad now and I doubt Franklin will pitch tonight as they will want him fresh for the divisional game. In the past this was a normal spot for Tony to rest players as well.

Agree with you guys on Toronto. Rays are sliding, and Parrish has surprised me. I bet against this guy based on my memories from his Balt days, but it is time to erase those.....

Tim - that Baltimore over is the only way to go with these guys...

Also, why not HOuston again? I've won with them in the first two and dempster on the road here. Gimmie the Stros one more time.

Parrish has not pitched in a road game since 2001. Lifetime he is 2-3 on the road with 1 average plus start. You can get 32 cents. Tampa is 16-4 last 20 at home and they have won 7 straight at home from Toronto. Tasty

No surprise Detroit is playing with a scrub team today waiting for KC. Played first 5 under 5.5 even money.

No Pujols in Cards lineup. Also Molina gets the day off..

I like Garcia vs this lineup.. Mccleeland probably used as closer today (or Izzy) Franklin not available

BC u saved me from the under in cinci and thank you tuck for the 1st 5 under in b'more. good shit guys :shake:

sn, if you're there, want to hear your thoughts on the LA game tonight... i think they may sweep this one..

LOT of bat speed in the angels lineup. best ive seen in a long time. Wakefield will get hit. That's all i know. Who knows about garland

The lineup has the BEST players that angels have. every single one. Everyone is back from injury.. interesting

ESPN TV games have been infused with Fav results recently, especially games with home favs.

The Fav is 8-0 L8 games, 12-3 SU L15 games, 20-6 SU L26 games
Home Favs are 8-0 L8 games, 12-2 SU L14 games, 19-4 SU L23 games

A 77%-to-100% Fav hit rate is not normal. One would continue to
expect a correction to be in the works.

The games on ESPN's schedule
(pitching match-ups where possible based on normal rest in brackets)

Boston @LA Angels - Wakefield vs Garland
Milwaukee @Saint Louis (Bush vs Piniero)
Philadelphia @NY Mets (Moyer vs Maine)
NY Yankees @Boston (Rasner or Ponson vs Dice-K)
LA Angels @Boston (Lackey vs Buchholz)
