Denver Nuggets Coach Brian Shaw Blasts Players in Epic Rant

Suffice it to say, things have not gone well in Brian Shaw's first season as head coach of the Denver Nuggets. After finishing last year at 57-25 and third in the Western Conference with George Karl as coach, the team is sitting at 25-29 and 11th in the conference, seven games out of the eighth and final playoff spot.

If that weren't bad enough, the team took a serious turn for the worse on Friday against the Chicago Bulls, losing 117-89. Apparently, Shaw has had enough of the losing. Most importantly, he's fed up with the lack of effort the Nuggets have demonstrated.

Denver is admittedly hurting right now without point guard Ty Lawson. Yet the performance against Chicago was unacceptable, as the Nuggets allowed an alarming 69 points in the first half. They weren't much better on offense, either, going into intermission trailing 69-46.

Since Shaw clearly felt pride wasn't enough of a motivating factor for his team, he talked about going after the players where they'd feel it most—their pocketbooks.

For Shaw, part of the frustration stems from the fact the Nuggets had a solid showing the night before, winning 101-90. Of course, they beat the lowly Milwaukee Bucks.

But still, you'd think a team like Chicago, who poses a legitimate threat, would be enough to inspire Shaw's players. Apparently not.

The ultimate solution, which Shaw finally alluded to, is to take away playing time from those who don't put forth effort. As much as he'd probably like to dock the players' pay, it's not within his power to do so. The one currency he does have, however, is minutes, and he intends to use it.

Shaw better hope that does the trick. The Nuggets are sinking fast in a ridiculously difficult Western Conference. They don't have much time to lose—literally and figuratively.

Kevin Durant likes 'The Servant'

As he strives to win his first league MVP award and to keep his Oklahoma City Thunder atop the Western Conference standings, Kevin Durant is ready for a new nickname.

Just call him "The Servant" from now on, the star forward told Grantland's Bill Simmons.

"I like to serve everybody. My teammates. Ushers at the game. The fans," Durant said in an interview Friday, when asked why he chose "The Servant" as his new moniker.

Despite being one of the game's biggest stars, Durant never has truly embraced a nickname. The 6-foot-9, 240-pound All-Star has tried to distance himself from the "Slim Reaper," previously telling the Oklahoman newspaper, "I'm not here to be a guy of, I guess, death."

Kevin Durant and the Thunder pick up their pursuit of LeBron James and the Heat on Thursday night.
He said he likes "KD," comparing it to the simplicity of "AI" -- the nickname of former All-Star guard Allen Iverson.

But for now, Durant told Simmons, "The Servant" is what fits best.

"I know it's kinda weird to make your own nickname," Durant said, "but I like that one better."

Durant leads the NBA in scoring with 31.5 points per game. The West-leading Thunder (43-12) return to action from the All-Star break on Thursday night against LeBron James and the visiting Miami Heat (37-14).

hey nba….nets loss stung last night….especially not even getting the cover…..jeez….what do you think it does for them in today's game?

Something isn't right with JJ. The lakers three point shooting worries me. I won't be touching the side. Maybe a Dwill assist prop

The one positive sign from last nights game is Dwill looks better than he has all year. Hopefully similar to last year where he finished the season strong. I didn't watch last nights game but just looking at the box score, the nets only had 11 assists. That's not going to cut it. The warriors have been very good defensively this year. The lakers.... Not so much. The nets SHOULD be able to put up points by moving the ball around. 11 assists for the game is pathetic.

I'm having second thoughts about okc. Don't like seeing 80% on them and Westbrick could still be fucking up the team mojo. Think I'm just going to lay off.

The heat did lose to the bulls by 20 earlier this season but it was on the road. Now they are coming home to Miami for most likely the first time since feb 4th???? I don't know who came home for the ASB or whatever but this is somewhat of a let down spot after winning 7 of 8 this month

Leaning Portland / Phx / Denver right now. Lot's of interesting subplots in the Portland game.

Yeah that's great but what does he provide other then great interior design ideas for the locker room

Thunder center Kendrick Perkins strained his left groin during Thursday’s loss to Miami and is out. Rookie big man Steven Adams will start in his place. Adams also started against the Clippers earlier this season when Perkins left the team for two games after the death of his grandfather. In that November loss to L.A. Adams scored seven points on 3-for-4 shooting and grabbed four rebounds.
Clippers All-Star point guard Chris Paul sprained his right (shooting hand) thumb in Friday’s loss at Memphis. Paul warmed up with a brace on his thumb and will play. Clippers coach Doc Rivers told reporters that thumb ”swelled up pretty big yesterday. Paul had x-rays earlier today that were negative.
In 17 previous games against Thunder All-Star point guard Russell Westbrook, Paul has averaged more points, rebounds, assists and steals. In 20 games against the Clippers, Westbrook is shooting just 36.9 percent. That’s his second lowest shooting percentage against an opponent (Detroit, 36.7 percent).
Blake Griffin (33.9 ppg) has actually had a better scoring month in February than Kevin Durant (32.5). Durant has scored at least 25 points in 21 straight games, the second longest stretch of his career (29 straight in 2009-10).
OKC is 9-3 this season in game’s following a loss and an NBA-best 41-10 in those situations since the start of the 2011-12 season. The Clippers have lost three straight on the road and are trying to avoid their first 3-game losing streak overall of the season.

I think all the rants in the world won't help this nuggets team.

nbafan pointed out the very lopsided numbers against the Kings on b2b. In addition Denver has won 8 in a row at home vs the Kings and the line comes out -3? I don't care if the number settles in higher, I think that line is very telling here. Linesmakers have zero faith in the Nuggets to get it done here IMO

Looks like LeBron is out. Game dropping to 4.5 at most sites....locked in a 7.5 w/local :wtf2:

Are the Clips going to continue shooting 65%+ Thunder 2ndh could be as square as it gets but I have to consider it

Meat in a huge 'who gives a shit' spot.

2nd half line in OKC suggests the Chunder lose SU.

Bulls don't cover games they don't win SU for the most part.

Heat 19-1 SU last 20 on Sunday.

As expected Russ has come into the line-up and destroyed team chemistry. Scott Brooks isn't smart enough to figure out the correct rotations.
