SMU vs. Penn State Discussion Thread

I would have said smu in a heartbeat till I saw pen st offense vs ducks. Unless big 10
Asked ducks to make pen st look like a real team im shocked they actually had an offense. I bet Clemson vs smu mostly on the premise that Clemson been in that game every year while smu really wasn’t accustomed to big games. I’ll admit I think smu prob wins that game if the moment wasn’t to big for them early on. Pen st is the same as Iu cept they been doing it for years, rack up 10 wins vs mediocre 6-6 big ten teams and lose the min they face a real team, if ya don’t understand this bout mr peanut and his team I dunno how to help you, they compile 10 wins va 6-6 teams every year and lose whenever they run into a top 10 team? While I was all for a 12 game playoff now that I see the field is full of teams who only beat bottom feeders im not so sure. I know the 3 sec teams that got left out would mop the floor with these phony ass big10 teams compiling wins vs 6-6 teams! Only shred of respect I have for pen st they somehow made the big10 championship gane close when I thought they were on the verge of being blown out. Not sure if ducks were just doing the big10 a solid or pen st actually found a offense? They have nobody that scares ya at wr but somehow ducks mysteriously left guys running wide open when pen st only has one legit pass catcher who looks like a damn fullback! No way I’m laying points here, smu speed should be a problem. Obviously you would expect pen st to get back to playing a physical run game but can they contain smu speed? I’m not sure.

Congrats Mr peanut, you don’t beat a good team all year and you get smu then clown ass boise st.. ncaa must really love the pen st brand, they do nothing and get handed the easiest path to the semi’s. Only way it could be easier if they let them play iu fraud asses in 1st round!

Put scary, ol miss, bama, or Texas am in smu spot and all then make the semi finals without breaking a sweat! Prob cuse also

Better throw Oklahoma and Vandy in that group too since they kicked the snot out of Bama. I mean A&M so good they lost 3 of last 4 including to Auburn and Notre Dame mopped the floor with them in College Station earlier in the year. (Oh I know early in the year doesn’t matter here, and neither do games late in the year).

Quite frankly I’m not sure why we even bother putting anyone but SEC teams in the tournament moving forward. Just top 12 sec teams- who says no?

I’d be thrilled to see cuse, or anyone who actually beat a top 25 team. Or we can just load it with a bunch of scrubs who didn’t beat anyone with more than 6 wins! That should be awesome going forward, whoever plays the easiest schedules gets in!! What a way to decide the champ. Not having to beat 1 ranked team all year!! K-st, Baylor, Colorado I’m pretty sure all best a team w more than 6 wins! What a horrible idea requiring teams to actually earn something instead of play a bunch of trash and get smoked the minute they face a ranked team!!! How many points did iu score against the only ranked team the played? I forget. Did they come close to covering that 11 point spread? Yes they deserve it!

IU would not lose to Kentucky, Vandy or Oklahoma. Sorry chief, Bama and the others had catastrophic losses.

I didn’t say ou or uk don’t know why ppl keep putting worlds in my mouth!!?!? but since you loved them to stay within 11 vs osu I think you might be just a tad bias. Scary, ole Miss, bama, Texas am, cuse, Baylor, Kansas, and several others I can’t think off of top my head, I’m not saying all these teams deserve to be in ahead of them but every one I just listed could easily beat them and if they got for play 11 teams with 6 wins or less they be sitting here w one loss also. Like I been trying to say this isn’t a iu witch-hunt by me, it more about the committee and how the entire state of ncaa football. The fact you can not have one ranked win and make the playoff is a joke. The fact the best team in the country (ducks) have to play the winner of vols/ohio st while the winner of pen st (another fraud) and smu play Boise st is a total fucking joke. So the last 2 teams in get to play Boise st sorry asses while the best team in the country has to play the winner of vols/osu who are prob both top 5 teams.

The complete system is dog shit, yes I’m picking on iu here but pen st is no more deserving, who did they beat? They been doing the same thing as iu for years, beating a bunch of 6-6 scrubs, losing anytime they face a real team and end up being ranked 5th when there 20 teams better than them. The Irish no more deserving that iu realky, at least they played and beat Texas am but that was 1st game the year a Aggies having a new coach, since then what have Irish done? Best a bunch a garbage teams while also losing to a fucjing mac team that wasn’t even in mac championship! The Irish really gotta love this system, you won’t catch them scheduling anyone worth a fuck going forward, wouldn’t surprise me the cancel the usc game cause that could be a tough game down the road. They are killing this sport, or at the very least making it more like college hooos, but at least college hoops gets eviugh they don’t mind playing other good teams easily. Why would any school schedule any game that could be a loss when the committee just made it perfectly clear if you play a schedule full of bums long as you win 11 games you in!! Who cares if the only ranked team you played held you to 7 points and covered a 11 point spread easy? Iu just happen to be the poster boys it not their fault but they won’t score 17 on a team that lost to a mac team! 💰 that!! Unless they have henchman refs doing their best to make it appear they belong!!

Is it really to much to ask that to be in playoff you have to have at least one win vs a ranked team?!?!??!? That seems like the equivalent of passing sat’s cause you spelled your name right!!

I don't see a portal thread anywhere but I'm interested in what happens with Kevin Jennings. I'm a big fan. By far, he is the best player in this game.

After LaNorris Sellers, Jennings and Sanders were the best QBs in the country at the end of the season. SMU can and will match free agency money but the school cannot match the (realistic) opportunity to play for a CFB title. Jennings is a Dallas kid, so that's important. But he will be a big, very big, fish to watch as his talent is immense.

One of these "don't belong here teams" will win next week. Why not SMU. The conspiracy theorists can argue that the committee will lean on the refs to justify their pick
Could also argue the B10 crew in the Clemson/Texas game wants to ensure that Oregon has an easy matchup in the semis against either Clemson or ASU.

Unfortunately for SMU, a SMU win is not good for Georgia, and the weather forecast keeps changing in the wrong direction

Agree the seeding needs changed, but who is paying you to bash Indiana all the time? They EARNED it. If Vandy went 11-1 and best win was Arkansas none of you would say a word.

Personally I do not think the air temp will be a shock to SMU. But, the winds plus "feels like" temp may create a problem with the passing games for both teams.

The good news? It is not supposed to snow during the contest, which kicks off at noon.

The bad news? It’s going to be very cold, and it will feel even colder.

As of 1 p.m. Friday, per weather.com, there will be zero chance of precipitation when PSU-SMU kicks off, and it will stay that way through the game.

But the game-time temperature is expected to be 26 degrees.

If you add in the forecast of 14 mile-an-hour wind coming out of the northwest, weather.com projects it will feel like 14 degrees in State College at noon.

Weather Channel predicting winds at 16mph

I made a post about this earlier in the year. The B1G had something like 10 teams in the top 30 of fewest penalties. By contrast, the SEC had 8 or so teams outside the top 100. Whichever of these games gets an SEC crew, it will absolutely turn into a flag fest

The crew calling Saturday's first-round game is entirely from the SEC, and according to Football Zebra, includes four previous bowl game officials, two previous New Year’s six or national championship game officials, as well as two Mackie Development Program officials, the NFL’s development and training pipeline.

David Smith is the best one in the SEC at least. Unfortunately for us, he went to Alabama so we can never have his crew. But Penn st and SMU fans are going to see more holding and PI calls than they’ve ever seen
