Saban retiring...

Truth be told, I’ll miss the old prick. Really made for a great rivalry. He was smart enough to see the sleeping giant and revitalized LSU when he came.

I guess we really don’t know with Dabo-er. Seems like a great X and O guy and I thought he called some nice plays(I assume he calls the plays, think he does or has a heavy hand there). I just always have trepidation with these types. If you really have to ask if he can recruit, I think that’s a real issue. Maybe he listens and hires right, but he better surround himself with the best of the best.
Most people would say Les Miles and Ed O are morons…probably agree there. They won National Championships because of one and ONE thing only. I’ll let ya guess what it was.

Did you even look up Courtney Morgan?

Pretty sure that answers the questions before they even start getting asked.

At this point it's safe to say Bama will recruit the South well regardless, the game has changed to where the opportunity to wear certain logos is already worth a lot.

Pretty smooth move for them to get a guy that will simply be able to recruit nationally above and beyond the gravy

I guess you can be sarcastic all you want but recruiting won't be a problem for Daboer

Hunt makes plenty of sense in questioning how he adapts defensively, that's where he needs to surround himself with the right people moreso than recruiting imo

I heard something from a guy I respect here. He didn’t say it, just said what others are saying.

This is Rich Rod to UM
Interesting to see where the comparisons are drawn, they seem nothing alike but I'm curious.

i'm finding Kalen to Bama a very odd fit culturally. the guy can obviously coach, but he is a Pacific Northwest guy through and through since birth and throughout his playing and coaching career.

when bama hired nick, at least he had been born and played football in west virginia (southern-like northern state) and coached at lsu so he had ties in the south.

if i am kalen i let my agent sexton use these bama rumors to get a better contract ie more money more years and lower buyout from u-dub and i stay in seattle a few more years.

same with norvell.

tommy rees already being there and developing jalen milroe at qb seems like the best fit as a bridge between saban and the next coach.

i still feel like a name comes outta nowhere from the NFL, perhaps a known entity at OC or DC who is respected in the pros and bama gives him a shot.

Revisiting my post from January. Is 3 losses already with Auburn on deck, an aberration or perhaps is Kalen a bad fit?

You highlighted a post where you called someone from South Dakota a Pacific Coast guy. That's akin to calling someone from Oklahoma a Mexican.
I said "Pacific Northwest" so I need a Wiki and a Geography lesson as I failed to read South Dakota (I probably read it as Idaho on his Wiki Bio) and was off by a few states.

You read "Pacific Coast" so you might need some new bifocals my friend, but I digress.

Culturally I questioned the fit last January and here they sit at 8-3 which is the most losses they have had in 15 seasons dating back to 2010 (2024 less 2010 = 15 seasons, inclusive, for those math blowhards out there).

So I ask again, was it fair that I questioned the fit from a cultural perspective or is this simply an aberration and they will get it corrected next season?

I have nothing against Kalen, in fact I like the dude and root for him. But his hire felt a bit knee-jerky and "Mike Pricey".

For those who do not recall who Mike Price was and how he cut his teeth in CFB, never mind............................

This past game is the first time I've had any doubt that De Boer can do the job and do it at a high level. Sure there's been a bit of a culture change, but I see no reason why it won't fit. He's obviously recruiting at a high level. I think $ contributions are up. I think the learning curve is much steeper than he's experienced in his career, but I'm still confident he can succeed. Saban's last team wasn't too far from losing 3 games either, but he's the GOAT for a reason. But again, this past game is concerning given that they had everything to play for and came out and got manhandled and looked uninterested for the most part

We don't talk about Mike "It's rolling baby" Price around here lol. Before he lost his job after that fateful trip to the Emerald Coast, one of my buddies told me he saw Price in Gallette's (biggest/most famous bar on campus) all the time. I was unsurprised with how it all shook out

The guy was just in the championship game last year. I find it hard to believe that he forgot how to coach this quickly but I do agree that coaching at Alabama is far different than Washington in many ways.

I think a lot of us got fooled by how seamless the transition was going after the debacle that was January. He, and the leaders on the team, kept the roster more intact than I would've guessed, had a great summer recruiting, and then started the season by going on the road and destroying Wisconsin and then beating UGA. Everything seemed to be business as usual. But that was mostly a mirage, and the nice start hid the fact that the transition wasn't as smooth as we all wanted to believe. Losing Grubb as OC and Huff as OL coach unexpectedly and having to hire quickly was a bigger deal than I gave it credit. The portal losses were mostly dead weight and depth, but Caleb Downs leaving was killer because it forced us to play Malachi Moore in a spot that he's not best suited, and because Downs is awesome. And of course the big issue of having a running QB who is not good at zone read and basically has no short to intermediate passing game ability. And who runs sideways way too much instead of north-south. We're forced to play him because apparently nobody else on the roster is ready yet or gives us a better chance to win in De Boer's mind. Throw in the schedule difficulty, and 3 losses isn't that unexpected. But what concerns me is the lack of effort and desire in 2 of those 3 losses. The Vandy one you can explain away with it coming off the huge win, Vandy's history and their unique offense. But the OU game there is no excuse. The defense got pushed around by an OL that is missing like 5 guys and hasn't done that to anyone this season. A non-running QB ran for more yards than Cam Newton, Jayden Daniels, or any other QB has against Alabama since probably Matt Jones at Arkansas. The OL might as well have been playing with 4 guys. WR dropped throws in their hands. The QB ran directly into defenders when running and then threw it directly to them when we absolutely could not have a turnover. When there's that much blame to pass around on a team, then all of it should be directed to the head coach. It's all on him for the way we looked so unprepared and uninterested. I am still confident that he's the right guy for the job, but he's got a lot to show us during this offseason and especially next year.

The greatness of Saban wasn't necessarily how high the team's ceiling was, it was how high the floor was. We went something like 13 straight seasons between losing to an unranked team. De Boer did it twice in his first 11 games. And this last one his team was thoroughly whipped

Replacing a legend is an almost impossible task and the pressure at Alabama is higher than anywhere else in the country but I am still stunned that it has gone this poorly. Not to change the subject but how can anyone see Milroe being an NFL starting QB much less projected as a first round pick even in a trash draft for QBs.

It's hard to say it's gone poorly when a win this weekend against AU likely results in being the first 4 out of the playoff. It's not the standard, but it is a transition year. The infrastructure is in place for De Boer to thrive, which is usually not true in transitions. Like I said, this offseason is critical. Because more results like this next year will result in a very warm seat for De Boer

I do not think Milroe is an NFL QB, but I'm done predicting NFL GMs not thinking they can fix guys

That puts you at number 13, 14, 15 or 16 and that is considered "poorly" by your fanbase.

I am standing by my statement last January - feels like an odd fit culturally.

I do not see it working out long term.

I will give it 2 more seasons and then the seat is boiling hot if they are not in the 12 team playoff soon to be 24 or 36 team playoff.

It definitely is considered that by the fans. But the people who matter aren't panicking
The people that matter will start panicking a year from now if they are again outside of the CFP field. Hell they will start panicking on Saturday night if you guys don't beat War Eagle.

I have no dog in the fight. I really respect your program and the brand value. I just think following in Saban's footsteps felt pretty doomed from the getgo and again felt it an odd fit.

I root for Kalen and the program. I have absolutely nothing against either. Both are great.

Time will tell if he is the right fit here.

I said it from the jump. It’s an impossible task.
Bama won’t go back to the dark days but this every year shit is over.
This isn’t fandom, just common sense.

Kalen 4 losses in Y1.
Like I said a year ago, I do not like the idea of him following a Living Legend in Saint Nick and I do not like the "cultural fit".

4 losses in a season at Bammer. Wow.

Kalen is still a very good coach IMO, but I do not like this fit.

Let's see what the future brings.

I would love to have Kalen as OU HC and Brent move back to DC where I think he is best suited as coordinator.

Just a pipe dream.
