PGA Tour agrees to merge with Saudi-backed rival LIV Golf

Whoa gonna need Cliff's Notes this time of night

Wonder if there are odds out there on whether this goes through or blows up

In his opening statement Jimmy Dunne literally used the "some people did something" argument about Saudi Arabia, 9/11, and how suspicion lingers to this day. Ilhan Omar would be proud.

Sounds like a final deal could take years, not months, due to many hurdles. Thinking LIV 2024 is a certainty and 2025 is likely too, which IIRC would coincide with the four year commitments that many of the big name players signed.

Meanwhile DeChambeau shot a 58 last Sunday to win at Greenbrier, which hosted the PGA Tour all through the 2010s. The Ryder Cup picks will be very interesting.

58 is awesome.

There is no discrediting a score like that.

The course played super easy and was soft as can be. Rain during the final round also helped.

He does look a bit better the last month or two after just a dismal year of golf.

When I saw the PGA tour schedule released earlier this week, what stood out was the fact they have eliminated the fall schedule. My immediate thought is that's due to the merger and sending LIV to the fall (I think that would help them a lot).

Who knows?

If not, we can already pick out their schedule next year (vs the smallest events on PGA).

He has definitely looked quite a bit better the last couple of months. His power game and his putting have both been on point. I would pick him ahead of JT at this stage if that was a choice. JT was better last week but I need to see more.

I really wish JT had made playoffs.

He is the epitomy of a Ryder Cup player. Much like the Euros have picked Sergio, Poulter etc during blah years... They turn it on come the competition.

I like Brysons attitude at the Cup. He's had some good and bad moments there but he certainly shows the emotion.

Go check the Golf GD thread and check out the video mentioned in my post.

I think the captains picks will be as much about locker room fit as current form. I still think JT ends up on the team, but he didn't do himself many favors over the last two months with his play. If he's not selected, I could see him as a vice captain or some other role on the team

Jesus this has drug on so long it's hard to even care about what the terms are at this point. Just get it done so this thing's in the rearview mirror. Hope Jay's gonezo.

This is American owned non Saudi oil?
Yeah this is a big group of investors.

You'd know a lot of the names, some different pro sports owners as well.

They'll still negotiate with PIF for more backing but even if that happens the government will need to be involved in order for reunification (that's how I've read things)..
