PGA Tour agrees to merge with Saudi-backed rival LIV Golf

Depending on the fine

If it's high at all, a few guys who maybe just say fuck it and keep the cash?
Curios why any of them would go back to the PGAT ? They’ll get the best of both worlds now . All the cash and will be able to play in majors and Ryder cups etc . This couldn’t have worked out better for LIV and their players .

Yeah, I don't understand why everyone does not see it this way. Seems too obvious.

Because LIV is likely gone after this year.

The only person that's still really parroting LIV right now on SM is Shipnuck... And he has a book to sell...

Pure guess from everything I read today... But we see a fall series that is LIV esque as far as the team concept... (Something like this).

The Saudis used LIV to get their hands onto the PGA tour. Remember, 4-5 years ago the right hand man reportedly showed up to PGA officials explaining he had 1 billion budget to invest (something to this effect).

They are golf nuts and wanted in. LIV finally gave them their avenue.

NBA next I bet

Also um, yikes

On the PGA Tour side it was commissioner Jay Monahan—more on him in a second—Ed Herlihy, co-chairman of the powerful Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz law firm and golf powerbroker Jimmy Dunne, a senior managing director at Piper and something of a legendary figure within the game. Dunne is an Augusta National member, longtime president of Seminole Golf Club and close confidant to many top players. He has a crazy 9/11 story, which adds a layer to this: he founded an investment firm that had offices in one of the World Trade Center towers, and dozens of his colleagues lost their lives in the attacks. He was out of the office that day playing in a qualifier.

Monahan, I'm told, maintained that the deal is in the best interest of membership. It wasn't a popular position in the room, nor in the media.

"I recognize that people are going to call me a hypocrite. Anytime I said anything, I said it with the information that I had at that moment, and I said it based on someone that's trying to compete for the PGA Tour and our players. I accept those criticisms. But circumstances do change. I think that in looking at the big picture and looking at it this way, that's what got us to this point."

Sounds like monahan was a big kawhi has ruled out the clippers guy

Also the guys wont be able to just keep the money and still do majors and Ryder cups because there wont be anything else to play, and all but a few of them do need the points

Phil seems the most likely to not pay the fine and just do the majors he auto qualifies for plus his regular cash games

There isn't going to be a fine. Regardless of what Monahan says...why would you possibly believe anything he says anyway? And if there is a fine, the Saudis will pay them is what I've heard anyway. This is much ado about nothing.

Information he had at the moment? He basically called the defectors traitors and asked if they would be apologizing to 9/11 families...who in the fuck believes him when he says it was about "information in the moment?" I'd love for someone to ask him a follow up question about the information he apparently learned in the past year.

This is like when the covid crazies use that same excuse. Everyone with a brain knows it's bullshit.

Saying the Saudi gov't was behind 9/11 is quite the statement. Not that some of the hijackers were Saudi, but that the government was behind it? Nothing is as it seems to begin with, and the US has continued to work with Saudi Arabia in the past 2 decades regardless...so if the Saudi government was behind it, what else does that mean? Hmmmm

PGA were arrogant and dismissive and acted all along as if they were beyond reproach. This is a good life and business lesson for the arrogant and established.

That's not I was trying to derive from this post.

This was more about his positioning on the matter + as chairman (or whatever title is) at Seminole he had banned the Liv golfers.

All I've seen today is praise for him.
watching now on Golf Channel... the old line journo (name?) and then the European Tour guy were not kind at all. "Phil has diminshed his name in golf" is one example

Oh, I know you weren't, sorry that wasn't directed at you at all. It was just more of a general comment about the whole thing.

Hey, maybe he got the same "new information" Monahan did...hehe.

Definitely one lesson...

Neither side wanted this going to discovery
Loyalty to a company is generally worthless

Cannot find it now, but Clay Travis made the call b4 Trump..twitter somewhere

Put politics aside. Do we need someone who has the wherewithal to predict this a year ago in office? Or the guy who can’t walk.
Remember that fake tweet is dated 7/22/22, well before he was reinstated on twitter

But I'm sure you knew that

And I'm sure you know that wasn't a tweet (that's sarcasm because clearly you didn't)...it was a screenshot from Truth Social that someone tweeted out. Good grief... how are you always wrong?

Well put. United States been in bed with Saudis forever. If Saudi Arabia was behind it we certainly bombed a different country instead.
