Looking back at week 9 really wasnt many suprises but more like alot of reinforcement .

Bad teams catching alot of points STILL play hard every week. Good teams playing bad every week laying alot of points tend to keep playing bad .

I think we learned that Jacksonville is NOT a good team and I have said that all season long . I think we learned Dallas is decimated by injuries and so is Denver and neither have players on that side of the ball who can step in and do it . DAL offense without a legit a QB is a chicken without a head and DEN weak at LB and safety to begin with cant afford to be w/o CHamp Bailey . The injuries to nearly every back has killed them and no one mentions the absence of Scheffler much and with a thin WR corps its made the Marshall-Cutler connection less concerning .

We also learned that Balt is a team to be reckoned with. I had my concerns about this game and hedged myself some on the CLE ML with a 1st H Balt play expecting this to be a war. At the mid point of the 3rd Q I felt like a genius when Cle came out and went up 2 scores but it was short lived. Isnt it always . Flacco is really progressing and they are an offense now to go along with that defense . Cant see how they arent at least as good as Tenny now minus the fundamental aspect Titans have over them.

Oak getting smoked suprised me as did the manor it happened . I thought Russell and the offense started to progress vs NYJ and while it was minor thought they did some good things @ Balt. Expected a much different higher scoring game in OAK today. ATL is solid as well but that defense does concern me but has held up fairly well.....

Houston again killed themselves with turnovers and that whats decided the game....

Arizona showed they are an 8 seed type team but possibly more of Hightower progresses....STL had some key banged up players and as TeeDub explained was not a good spot for the Rams today .....

NE continued to use the special glue that holds this team together .....Colts did some good things but they have a banged up defense as well . Addai also hard to believe he was any near 80% let alone 100%...

KC again proved that Herm Edwards will always coach not to lose and he always winds up losing . They blew games @ the jets and today when their is no excuse to lose.......at least the offense is showing GREAT improvement .....

Det played a great 2nd Q and outside of that lost 24-0 but 23-3 in the 2nd keep them around late even with Orton getting knocked out ....not much to say then grab +13 or better blindly in the NFL.....

Thought the Jets and Bills were basically equal teams but Buffalo DEF is banged up . NY made some plays todays and it was enough .....

Week 10 -

While CLE looks easy dont forget that Denver could be healthier and could get some needed players back. Also a real rough schedule could be catching up to the Browns . Started with the Giants MNF game , tough games @ Wash and @ Jax then host Balt . So healt h for CLE just as important especially Stallworth.

Miami is really looking good and alot of travel for Seattle but I just hate to lay near DDs with the Phins . They grind out the offense and find ways to get it done so have to look at SEA health on defense .

Have to think Det is a play here. Why lay it with Jax at this point ? One thing I noticed is alot of the bad teams to do much better as big road dogs then home pups.

I really think Bears were looking ahead and if Orton can go and Tenny lays a FG then Bears for me ......

Oak was terrible today but Carloina laying -9 ? Just seems like an overreaction .....

Little concerned about this spot. KC looking good in consecutive games but lost heartbreakers . teams either rise up or get crushed in this spot and being KC is really a poor team then crushed makes sense especially facing a desperate SD team off 2 losses ......and fired def coordinator .......situationally screams sD but tad high line.....

Zona looked good but think SF +10 with Singletary off a bye could present some value.......

Looking at Philly as long as they are healthy . Eagles tough defense and NYG offense out of sync IMO . To many things go right and ignoring what is wrong with the NYG ofense = Plaxico for one...

should be interesting what transpires throughout the week.....like the Skins tmrw as Pitts OL is really messed up . Also Skins go to a bye after this but of Moss cant go then would pass . Should be a low scoring game ......17-13 type:cheers:

Good write up Nut.

This week I hate to see the Dolphins with that much chalk. Without capping the game will probably be a pass for me.

The Denver game interests me. Kinda like Denver in this spot and possibly an over play if the linesmakers throw out a low total because of the struggling Bronco offense. I can't see Cleveland stopping Denver. I only see Denver stopping Denver.

Rams /Jets reminds me of the Dolphin game this week.Probably a pass.

Ravens/Houston interests me. Might be a good spot for the Texans imo.Line should be a pickem or Texans a 1 point dog.Like I said I haven't capped anything just guessing here.

Minny/GB looks intersting.I like Minny in this spot at home especially at 1. Think Minny is starting to click offensively besides turnovers off course.

Saints/Falclowns looks like a good spot for the Saints. Will discuss this one later on.

Jags/Lions pass

Pats/Bills slight lean to the Pats. Personally waiting for Buffalo to head south for the season. I am not impressed with this team.Overrated imo.

Titans/Bears agree with you Nut.Like the Bears myself.

Panthers/Raiders pass

Colts/Steelers lean Steelers on this one

Chiefs/Chargers Lean Chiefs but over may be a better play

Giants/Eagles Letdown spot for the Giants????? Lean Eagles

Frisco/Cards Lean Frisco right here. Think Frisco and the Cards are even imo.

Thats what I am thinking as of now without breaking the games down.

I would think that the Saints would be road chalk in Atl...think that will be a popular one

Nawlins - why would this be a letdown for the Giants? I think they breezed thru the Cowboys and to me it was an expected win, it's not like they pulled an upset or anything. However, I do think the Eagles have the D to disrupt a inconsistent offense and Eli - I like the Eagles and Under there a lot...

Great thread Nut.. Wish more guys would get in here especially the guys with local knowledge..

Can't say this for sure but I think I have been on the right side of nearly all the games I have played when the Rams are involved.. Went with them catching big points for awhile, against them last week..

I have a lot I need to confirm but was pretty excited to see an 8 out there.. I will likely back them this week.. But not so fast because I am checking on several things..

Like the king says, Warren Buffet--- I buy when everyone else is selling, and I sell when everyone else is buying..

I am buying again this week most likely.

Little and Carricker played some but not a lot Sunday. Neither were full speed. I do not think they came out of the game any worse and should be closer to full speed this week.. Need to check practice logs throughout the week. With them the Rams put on a pretty good pass rush.. Without them, not so much which is what we saw Sunday. Give Favre time and he'll torch you. Pressure him and he is a pick six machine....

Jackson--- same as above.. Think he'll be healthier this week and fairly pissed off.

Bulger---usually bounces back nicely after bad performances. Young receivers are getting better.

Rams have shown they have the talent to win on the road against quality competition. Lots of outs here catching two possessions...

Got my radar up.. I'll add throughout the week... If you like the 8, would think it should be grabbed now.. Could be wrong though as everyone is now selling the Rams again..

Personally, I think they are the easiest team in the NFL to read

Teams that are favored from 7-9 this year have been killing it. Only reason I may lay off of the Rams this week, as I agree with what Tee is putting down on them.

Minnesota could be with out

Pat Williams
Kevin Williams
Jared Allen

the sucker line of the week is NO +1 against Atlanta. If you like ATL, wait you will see + points

DD faves are something like 1-12 ATS this year

Right now I'm really thinking the Bears beat Tenn, but Tenn is 7-0-1 ATS depending on your number.

first glance leaning hard on the iggles as well

Personally, I think they are the easiest team in the NFL to read

Rams have talent and the thing about the Jets is this---

They made a statement to win last game vs Bills, they needed that Divisional win in that game---
Jets sold out for that win, I dont see how they come back and play the Rams with any sort of motivation--

The Rams are good when completely healthy, last week was a bad spot, playing a hot Cards team with key injuries----

Jets also are not the type of team that can be laying these points as they are quite frankly not that good of a team- losing to san diego and the raiders to me does not justify a 8 point favorite at home-- Good teams dont lose to raiders and get blown out of the stradium by diego.

Not sure I that I agree with Sammy on the part about NYJ being motivated for STL . I do agree they are not the type team who should be laying 8/9 points and counted on to cover . They to often settle for FGs , to often leave poinst off the board with careless mistakes (ie: Favre picks in the red zone) , to often give pts to the opposing teams via turnovers whether short field or defensive scores . :shake:

Marlo - agree that Minny is thin ice and GB really needs this game now. They had less then 200 yards passing and believe Houston had both INTs inside Minys red zone maybe even end zone but did have a pick 6 early as well.

Not sure I agree with NO being a sucker play . The Falcons just won 24-0 in dominanting fashion @ Oakland that is the most recent occurrence bewteen the 2 teams . So I owuld think ATL is overvalued rather then NO bait ....:shake:

Tee- Good stuff . I think you have been correct on all STL games outside of maybe Buffalo which I had as well and took a meltdown. :shake:

Nawlins- Good stuff as well. basically in the same boat still looking just throwing out preliminary ideas.......:shake:

After much deliberation have to stick with my initial lean here of Washington. Both teams have injuries to deal with and Wash has always managed to substitute well on defense while Pitt has a few concerning ones on that side of the ball. having Holmes and Parker back is very good for the Steelers but thier root issue is still the OL. Without solid play from the OL the talents of all Pitt's players go to waste. Looks like despite the G/T decision label Santana Moss is playing today.

Washington is very much like Tenny IMO and while worse at some positions its also better at others. The lone loss Wash since the opener is a game where they committed a ton of mistakes which was really the first time it plagued them in 2008 so they beat themselves vs STL more then anything IMO.

Wash as won vs Zona , NO (depleted) , Cle and @ Philly and @ Dallas with Romo. Pitt has won @ Jax and @ Cincy , edged by @ Cle , edged by Balt and lost @ Philly and vs NYG last week. So Wash beat the best of the East on the road and Pitt has lost both home and away vs them. Also Pitt was 5 pt dogs @ JAx who we know is very overrated this year and needed OT vs Balt who has grown in leaps and bounds since that game .

I have this game at Wash -3 and basically thats what we see out there(tad below that).

Think about it Pitt was +3.5 @ Philly and was embrassed while Wash was +6 pr so and won SU the week after winning @ Dallas . They were TD favs vs Cle and Pitt was -5 vs Balt which would again indicate that WASH and Pitt are equal....Pitt was -3 at home and lost to NYG and Wash was +4.5 @ NYG.......

How has this been resolved Pitt fans ???HUGE --

A restricted free agent in the 2008 offseason, Warren signed a three-year, $2.3 million contract with the Steelers on March 25.
Warren sustained a season ending knee injury in a game against the New York Giants on 10/26/08. The importance of a competant long snapper became evident when after Warren left the game, the substitute long snapper, James Harrison, sent a snap sailing over the punter's head and out the back of the endzone resulting in a safety. This tied the score and gave the Giants good field position on the ensuing kick resulting in the go ahead touchdown late in the game.

Jared Retkofsky, who signed with Pittsburgh in 2007 as an undrafted rookie from Texas Christian University, was released after training camp this season.

So this is his 1st career game I would guess.......

UNDER trends:

Under is 37-18-1 in Steelers last 56 road games vs. a team with a winning home record.
Under is 42-18-2 in Redskins last 62 games after allowing less than 90 yards rushing in their previous game
Under is 6-1-1 in Redskins last 8 Monday games.

Does Zorn have some tricks up his sleeve here looking for payback for the Hawks SB loss a few seasons ago vs Pitt ?

This week there will be a lot of new faces coming in at QB. Brady Quinn will be starting thursday night, will he play well or be rusty? I think he gives the team a spark. Also Orlovsky has been playing a little better in recent weeks but is now injured. Do they go with the newly signed Culpepper or Drew Stanton? Either way, both will struggle. I know Jax has sucked this year but they have to be looked at. They've got to be embarassed by giving the Bengals their first win and don't want to give the Lions their first win. Also Schaub is injured but Rosenfels isn't much of a drop-off. Rex Grossman will also be starting this week and I have zero confidence in him.

Nut, im leaning the same way. I just can't bet it for some reason

Chalk it up into good ability to trust your gut . I came home it was 6-0 Skins the 1st just ended and its been Pitt ever since . Obviously greatly aided by field position but the Skins OL is getting crushed . I say it every week but why dont I just bet the OVER sacks Prop in every Pitt game ? They either get a ton or give up a ton ....

Worst case I do wind up somewhat positive on the game but had everything pegged very nicely except this side it looks like . Had 1st Q Under , 1st H under and Redskins 1st score with a tiny loss on the Skins 1st H -1 -105 and 2 units pending on Skins -2.5 ( no game total though but leaned over 17 2nd H ) ..

:shake:

FYI

Pat/Kevin Williams will probably play this weekend, no word on Allen though..probably a game time decision.

Nut

I noticed you didnt think Saints as a (pk) now is a sucker bet, will jump in later and give some thoughts as why I think ATL wins this one.

Extremely disappointed in Orton not being able to go . Grossman is hard to trust but has a pulled a nice game or two out of his ass at home before . Really takes the luster of looking at CHI .

The other QB moves I disagree with Quinn giving CLE a spark . The spark they need is Winslow on the bench and Stallworth just in the lineup . They won both games w/o Winslow and Stallworth didnt play for Balt leaving DA with few options .

DET is going to be a mess probably as Culpepper has been out of shape before and clearly is going to struggle to get in sync with guys he never played with . However if his arm feels good I wonder if he could connect with CJ deep a few times like he did with Moss back in the day . Stanton is the guy you want to see but when the OC said he will be embarrass himself you wonder is he that bad now or is that great motivation ??

Rosenfals to Schaub is a wash basically ....

Jumped on KC +14.5 today. I noticed you noticed what DD dogs are doing this year.

I agree with Chicago, was really looking to take them this week but not now, have to look into it more.

Brownies need a new coach, and some WR's that can catch the ball.

Packers have owned the Vikings the last 3 years. I believe McCarthy is 5-0 in his career against Childress. Running game got going for the Packers this past week against a very good Titans defense. Grant broke a few nice runs. Rodgers played a solid game not specatcular but he did have 2 turnovers. Packers defense is fully healthy now and played a hell of a game yesterday minus the last 2 drives. Harris and Woodson proved they can still shut down any pair of WR. (yes I know they were the Titans WR, still). I think Rodgers tears this defense apart through the air. Really dont understand this line. Frerotte coming off another below average game. Packers defense have also seemed to control Peterson the last couple times they have played them. I look for the Packers to come out with another great gameplan and win 27-17 type game.

Sounds good Marlo . I just thought back to grabbing ATL as home pup of about +3 vs Chi few weeks ago . Game was coin toss and see the same here . ATL is 5-3 with wins CHI , KC and OAK who are 3-21 , the 2 pt Chi home win and FG win @ GB who was decimated on defense that week.

Looking forward to it......:shake:

LIstened into the Haslett news conference this afternoon:

Little and Carricker both came through the game in good shape.. Both should start and play heavy minutes.. Pretty key IMO.

Stephen Jackson basically fucked the team as he said he was ready to go but was not and pulled himself from the game.. Rams left RB Darby inactive which was a problem as Pittman injured his hammy early and Minor left with a cuncussion basically leaving Rams with no RB the entire 2H... Makes sense more now why they struggled so much..

Hasslet said if Jackson does not practice at full speed by Thursday he will be inactive.. Leaving the RB chores to Darby, who actually I don't mind so much..

Still stalking this line.. More to come..

Yeah T-dub, the Jackson status is what's gonna let me pull the trigger on the Rams. Bulger is vulnerable w/o the running game. With it, he can connect to those young receivers and Holt.

I hear ya, but actually to be honest, bad news on Jackson runs this line up further and I don't mind that so much.. Darby is decent..

Also,, everyone is hung up on Jackson news...A healthy lenard little and Carricker has a much bigger impact than Jackson... RB's unless you are Adrian peterson are very over rated IMO as it relates to the spread.. Stephen Jackson is mostly as pussy..

Rookie Long has goten all 4 of his sacks when Little has flushed the QB towards him on an "edge" rush..

I will play this at 8+ without Jackson.. Thats where I am at right now.. If I get a healthy Jackson, more the better.

I do not think he plays this week though..

Lets keep the stalk on this one..

Rams lose games just as much with Jackson then without him. Jackson is becoming 1 big dissapointment. Bulger is the biggest panzy ass QB in the league. He completely tanked after his INT tied the game 7-7. The game will come down to how the Jets O matches up with the Rams D. Jets WR's shouldn't create too many problems. Little should be a go which means everything for the Rams D.
I was shocked to see the Rams +9 when the lines came out. Jets O is too conservative to cover this. Rams defense does great when opposing offenses don't stretch them. Washington couldn't do it and Dallas couldn't either hence the 2 wins.
This is a FG game with the Rams gaving a great chance to win outright

Apparently Jackson may be out but the Rams have this new superstar running back from Harvard named Todd PALIN? He is a little old at 45 but is very deceptive and good at finding the holes. You ever heard of this guy, Haslett said he was waiting to get him in the game and he is a game breaker.

A few lines that look very appealing to me...are these sucker bets?...

Baltimore +1.5 @ Houston --> What am I missing here? Yes, I'm aware Houston has been playing much better in the last four weeks. But Baltimore is without a doubt the best defense the Texans will have faced since Week 2. And now, with Schaub out, Rosenfels gets the start. Flacco impressed the hell out of me last week, as did the Ravens defense, bouncing back from a poor 3rd Q. Again, what am I missing here?

New Orleans @ Atlanta pk --> Big game for the Falcons here, returning home after being on the road in four of their last five games. NO has won SU in their last three games against the ATL. I think Ryan will have success throwing the ball, and the Falcons clearly have the more balanced offense. Really tough to see the Falcons coming out flat.

Denver +3 @ Browns --> Brady Quinn's first start? Cleveland has had difficulty rushing the ball all year...and now Quinn will be at the helm? Devastating loss last week for the Brownies, while Denver is STILL in 1st place. If Flacco can pass all over the Browns, Cutler should be able to at least have similar success. Browns have problems everywhere, and it showed last week.

If you think I'm wrong on these, please, feel free to talk me off these leans...

Damn aztec, i like all 3. The only one that I might be afraid of is maybe Denver. I was disapointed in the game against Miami because it was after a bye week, and at home. Also Shanahan is pass happy and has forgotten what has given him the success in previous years: the run game. The defense isn't that great and Cutler seems to be off lately. But then again, you got the Quinn factor. Like i said earlier in the thread, will he play well or rust? I have no idea.

I agree 100% on Denver bro...of the three, I like the Broncos the least. Not to mention, it's a Thursday Nighter...at Cleveland.

But, you really like the other two?...

Just watch Rex play good with Kyle out and we have a QB problem heading into the playoffs. :(

Just watch Rex play good with Kyle out and we have a QB problem heading into the playoffs. :(

i think this is very possible.. When you think about it.. Orton failed several times before he succeeded.. Grossman has the skills and perhaps the mental demons have left.. interesting... many past examples of this happening

Tito I just have a feeling the Eagles are going to win SU.Just a gut feeling bro.Still in the process of breaking the games down.College card takes forever.

Just an update now that most game are lined minus the Steeler game waiting on Big Ben . Obviously there is NO Houston / Cincy game . Dont get wrapped up in betting % 's its just the best cut and paste option out there IMO . Even the NY Daily News is printing Vegas take on NFL games in % ratio. So whether its accurate or not it still a smoke screen to make you think twice IMO.

Locked in 1 play so far and looks like I should have played more .

SD -14-120 :(only have 1 unit will be adding to this play probably making it 5 units as long as I get it at less then -17)
At 1st glimpse I thought KC looks attractive BUT I then I thought about the big picture . I say this in all sports when teams play well in consecutive games and LOSE the option is usually BLOWOUT in the 3rd game . It's either that team bouncing back and blowing someone out are playing flat and getting blasted . I could argue this is what happened to the Spurs yesterday . They lost a close game at home by 5 to the SUNS , then lose by 1 @ Portland so game 3 ???? Mavs come in and smoke them .

Add that KC is really baged up and even the progress the offense has made its a terrible situation for them . SD is one of the BIGGEST NFL home edges IMO because the Chargers play so well on both sides of the ball usually and the scoreboard usually ends with lopsided results. Just look at how strong SD was lined vs NE and NYJ . Then look at how little respect KC was given catching 14 at the Jets who were +9 @ SD and then +9.5 at home vs TB. So really this game should be about -17 IMO.

KC is banged up just as bad as Denver is and they started with alot less talent to lose. So we are talking fringe NFLers getting some time at one of the toughest places to play. Mix in 2 straight tough losses for SD , the week off after LOndon and this has all the markings of a beatdown. Did I mention the fact SD will probably be more aggressive on defense with ROn Rivera now calling the shots.

Expect this to be ugly ...SD , SD 1st H possibly with the mirroring plays on the over although the 1st H over might be stronger then game total.

KC injuries :
Patrick Surtain is OUT and other starting CB Flowers who has a bad hamstring looks like he will play but sounds more like because he has to then anything else. I guess Carr has been sort of the starting CB with Surtain oft injured and this is a 22 year old rookie from Grand Valley State . Want to read up to see if e progressed past few weeks and imagine he has but this was a comment on month ago on him :

Carr is getting picked on relentlessly and was beat down the field by 35-year-old Muhsin Muhammad Sunday, but he's racking up IDP stats. .

CB Brandon Flowers bears watching this week after the rookie starter sustained a hamstring injury. That ailment, coupled with an earlier blow to the head that bloodied his nose, kept him out of most of the fourth quarter in the overtime loss to Tampa Bay.

Pass Defense: D—The Bucs’ Jeff Garcia completed 15 of 18 passes (with two spikes) for 168 of his 339 passing yards in the fourth quarter and overtime when the Bucs scored 17 of their 30 points. He worked effectively against two inexperienced corners, rookie Maurice Leggett and second-year player Tyron Brackenridge, who rejoined the Chiefs two days earlier after having been released after training camp.

Taken from YSports clearly with Surtain out , Flowers not available in the 4th Q the secondary struggled . Garcia 15/18 168yds 4thQ and OT. With Flowers , Carr and Leggett that 3's rookie CBs and I believe Breckenridge has been released already so another guy off the street is on his way I assume.

Derrick Johnson is extremely DOUBTFUL and likely OUT at LB.

LJ suspended , Kolby Smith out for the year and Josh Charles while good IMO Edwards just said he doesnt see him as 20 carry back in the league . So that means his max is 15-20 carries and probably like the 18 he had last week. Leaving Jackie Battle and Dantrelle Savage as the guys getting the other carries.

KC punting was poor but Colquist returns and that should show at least some improvement . TB had a 97 yd kickoff return and thats a rarity I believe for the TB franchise ...

COmments:
Thigpen played well but also had just 39 yds passing in the 2nd H. Bowe is still inconsistent but talented and Mark Bradley looked like the guy who was so promising back in CHI . I really thought he was going to be a legit #1 WR before the kneee injuries.

From YSports ( on KC's mindset ):
Inside Slant

Just a week ago, as they pondered a 28-24 last-minute loss to the New York Jets, the young Kansas City Chiefs talked about how they could gain a lot of positives from being competitive, something they had not been in three of their previous six losses.

But there was no such uplifting talk after their most competitive loss of the year, Sunday’s 30-27 overtime defeat at home to a legitimate playoff contender, Tampa Bay.

“I guess we’ll pull some good out of it (Monday), but right now it’s hard to see,” said dejected safety Jarred Page, still in his uniform long after most of his silent teammates had showered.

No, there wasn’t much to feel good about in blowing a 21-point first-half lead, the biggest blown lead in franchise history.

The Chiefs couldn’t celebrate a suddenly explosive offense that scored on four of the first five possessions—including a trick-play touchdown pass to Tyler Thigpen—and put up 27 points against Tampa Bay’s second-ranked scoring defense, which was yielding only 15 points a game coming in.

Not when the Chiefs scored only three points in the second half when they should have been adding on.

They couldn’t celebrate having the first 100-yard rusher—rookie Jamaal Charles—against the Bucs this year. Not when for the second consecutive week they couldn’t get the first down they absolutely, positively had to get to kill the last 3:24 of clock time.

They couldn’t celebrate four takeaways—giving them seven over the past two games—when they couldn’t preserve a 27-19 lead in the final 1:50. Jeff Garcia drove the Bucs 50 yards and hit the game-tying 24-yard touchdown, followed by a two-point conversion to Antonio Bryant with just 19 seconds remaining.

They found nothing to feel good about when Michael Clayton broke three tackles on a 29-yard reception on the first play of overtime, a jump-start in the drive for Matt Bryant’s game-winning 34-yard field goal.

The Chiefs had several chances to put this one away. Page missed a prime shot when he couldn’t haul in what would have been a spectacular one-handed interception in the end zone with 1:16 left on Tampa Bay’s drive for the tying TD.

“I had a chance to end the game, but I didn’t make the catch,” Page lamented. “I was so close. I had it trapped (against his shoulder), but when I hit the ground it popped out. I’ve got to make that play.”

Kansas City thought it had the first down it needed when Tony Gonzalez made a one-handed circus catch near midfield on a third-and-4 play from the Chiefs 26 with 2:21 left. But Gonzalez was called for offensive pass interference—a call that has been the bane of the future Hall of Famer’s career—and the Chiefs instead were forced into a three-and-out punt.

“You would think a Hall of Famer would get that call,” said Chiefs receiver Mark Bradley, who was in the vicinity of the contact. “I thought the defender just fell down.”

“If we get that catch,” coach Herm Edwards said, “the game is probably over.”

But the 1-7 Chiefs aren’t getting the big breaks this year. Little mistakes and missed opportunities, in contrast, are costing them dearly.

“We’ve not good enough yet that we can make those kind of mistakes and win,” Gonzalez noted. “We had it right up there to the end.”

KC has shown some life after basically losing all there games by 20+ after the opener and a win vs Denver inbewteen. Now of consecutive late losses and collapses I think this team is already beaten . Mix in the injuries limiting the defense which has already struggled on the road , the opponent , the venue , the rested team off a BYE in need of a win , the fact SD has won both home games by 19 and 20 losing SU to Car as -9.5 pt favs ........

I am fully aware of how poorly DD favs have done so far . I believe I was the one who brought it to the attention of the forum when I broke down the 1st 6 weeks of the season in a discussion thread(assume week7's) so I know what I up against . Every game is played under different context though and this is much different then the previous DD teams who dead men walking when they arrived and suprised people with one of their better games . Here KC literally may be walking in dead Men . Just remember soutside of beating DEN the KC defense has allowed 30 , @28 , 34 @ 34 , @38 in 5 of 6 games recently . In 5 of 8 the KC team scored 14 or less and the win and 2 collapses scored at least 24 pts . The Jets should have alot more then 28 pts . They come out on fire and slowly started giving the momentum to kC if you recall. TD 1st possession , next possession they are 1st and 10 at KCs 21 and not only dont get a TD but miss the chip FG , next possession Favre INT sets up short field and KC goes 38 yds to tie it at 7 when it could have been 14-0 probably . Then later in the game 3rd and 2 at the 8yd line Favre throws a 91 yd Pick 6 !

Mix in the fact KC won @ SD last year as 12 pt dogs I think SD knows to not take them lightily especially seeing how they competed last 2 weeks .

So pretty comfortable thinking SD can get 35 pts here and more would not be suprising by any stretch. I dont see KC breaking 14 here and certainly not 17 but at -14 what was great is I basically had up 21 KC pts covered....so really pays to have -14 even at -130 IMO if you can get because I feel like you really take advantage of the worst case scenario...could also go SD and Over teased something like -9 /41.5 which I do worry about how much KC could score here but would hope they get one TD...

Nice to see different voices and opinions in this thread . It helps everyone to see more opinions . Just a point on SD as well they are off 2 tough losses which they kinda pissed away chances to win despite playing so-so . So I think this lines well up on both sides -KC ripe to be blownout and SD ready to put a good effort together and blow someone out....

Chargers Team Report Nov 5, 2008

The Chargers had one of the best byes they could imagine:

• Some of their key players were able to rest nagging injuries, which should help the cause moving forward.

• The embattled defense got extended time to get to know its new coordinator, Ron Rivera.

• The AFC West-leading Broncos lost a home game to the Dolphins, which cut their lead over the second-place Chargers to one game.

• Every team in the AFC West lost on the Sunday the Chargers were off.
Not bad. And just maybe an omen for a second-half turnaround for one of the NFL's most disappointing teams?
"We're 3-5, that's the bottom line," quarterback Philip Rivers said.

Signal- I like GB but am cautious though. Minny wasnt all that good vs Houston but interested to see how Aaron Rodgers bounces back from an so-so performance . As well as to hear from Marlo how the Minny injuries play out . AP did run well last week and Frerotte found Berrian twice for big plays so GB needs to avoid that . Huge game for both but especially now for Minny with 2 road games on deck. A loss here could leave them at 4-7 after the FLA trip . Like the Over some as Minny has never recovered from losing Henderson IMO earlier in the year. Also thought Minny played them well @ GB with the difference being GB executing some key plays and losing HFA could be a difference in who executes those key plays this time around. :shake:

TeeDub- I agree 100% with you . Losing Jackson not that big of a deal his impact has not been huge . STL held tough @ NE w/o him and NYJ still dont led me to believe they are better then NE and dont have the same defensive attitude either IMO . Will be joining you here as NY to sloppy to lay TD + at this point ...Also think Haslett and staff tried to sooth Holt 's ego by involving him more last week which short term could make for a more productive Tory Holt. :shake:

Aztec - I commented on the Balt and Houston game in your thread . Balt's defense is good but its drops a ton when it travels . Cle had no problem putting up 27 points through 3 quarters and Houston offense is as good probably a tad better . I absolutely agree that Balt and the offense is progressing nicely but they have killed themselves at times with penalties . Look how many big plays were wiped out at home vs OAK but OAK was just that bad. havent reviewed the Cle-Balt game yet so not sure how they fared will penalties on offense . Doesnt really matter who is at RB for them IMO all three have shown they can play and Rice can catch the ball out the backfield. Indy is down this year but they needed a meltdown from Houston to win. Problem is Houston always is sloppy they blew the Minny game with 2 red zone INTs and a fumble on 1st down at the Minny 35 early as well . Not to mention the big plays to Berrian which accounted for 2 TDs basically. Had this game at a PKem so Balt being favored IMO is wrong . Lean Houston at this point . Also the Ravens have game @ NYG on deck which will be their 3rd straight and this one is 4th in 5 games away ...2 away , home vs Oak , @ Cle (tough win) , @ Houston , then @ NYG....little sandwich spot I think off the rival with SB champs ondeck ...

Denver is really banged up but I agree Quinn not sure I see him as energizing CLE . They both have to many key injuries IMO . Den defense is riddled with them as is the RB unit . Cle needs Stallworth because teams just double Braylon at this point and shadow Winslow . Heiden is 2-0 when he starts think CLE should figure that out and dump Winslow for a quality WR . CLE some injuries on defense as well . Could be a ton of points in this one but suprised how well DEN played against the Miami run offense ....liked CLE with DA but unsure with Quinn. Would look at Den 1st H rather then game if you like Den still ...

Atlanta and NO is a tough game IMO . remember that ATL has 3 wins vs Det , KC and OAK basically the bottom of the NFL who are a combined 3-21 I believe . They won @ GB but the Packer defense was really banged up and think that was Rodgers 1st game after the injury as well . So nice but loses alot of luster when we look big picture . The other key win was a 3 pt home dogs to Chi . Game went back and forth and see NO and CHI as similiar teams with different makeups . ATL give them credit for rallying and winning by 2 . Thought that game should be a PK and think this should be as well . I know some think this is trap or sucker bet with NO and maybe it is . I just think ATL 24-0 win holds more value in the world of perception . I think NO will shred the ATL secondary and this should be real high scoring . After this week people will wonder when NO gets 31 or so how ATL shut anyone out ...defense tends to weaken immensely after halftime IMO... (tough to pressure Brees as well so Abraham neutralized??)

Just some thoughts bro. :shake:

Brewer - Sounds about right . Which helps me play CHI this weekend.:shake:

Nawlins- Like the Eagles alot as well. CFB never ends !!! :shake:

SN - You make some excellent points, and give me reason to pause on my two plays. However, you fail to point out that Rosenfels is getting the start for Houston. While I don't think he's complete crap, there's a reason Schaub was starting over him. I will take my chances with the better defense and yes, a rooke QB who's proven he can win and not get rattled on the road (2-2). And I'm not going to smash on Balty for losing at Indy and at Pittsburgh. That was a brutal spot for the Ravens at Indy (in a must win situation), and Pittsburgh and can stop anyone with that defense.

I think New Orleans can pass on anybody...but it does not bode well for them that they have an awful defense, and ATL should be able to control the clock with their ground game. And when and if the Falcons run game fails, Ryan should have no problem passing with success. Just more positives for ATL in this one, especially since New Orleans is 0-3 on the road this year (not including the England game, which was a neutral site), while ATL is undefeated at home this season at 3-0, outscoring their opponents 94-55...and even though last week was a bye, this is still the Saints third straight road game. I wouldn't be surprised if NO really put forth a lack-luster effort this week. How can ATL, a team that hasn't beat NO in 2 years, not be jazzed for this game, with a chance to take a share of the lead in the division?

Again, really appreciate the feedback...but I'm sticking with my guns.

Yeah Nut I just finished capping the NFL card and my only 2 leans are the Packers and Eagles.Thats it.I expected more out of this card and its all I got.Really pisses me off when I like a few games and can't even get a lean out of them due to shit lines.Well there not shit just linesmakers have these teams pegged on the T and won't give us a slight edge.

Sounds good Atzec . I didnt address the Houston QB because I honestly think these guys are clones and some have called to have Rosenfals be the starter anyway . I think the reason why Schaub is the starter is simply they signed him and paid him to be the starter. Rosenfals if he had a better understanding of the game would have led his team to a win ove Indy but he tried to make plays when the game called for just protecting the ball. Part of that is on teh coaching staff as they needed to stress that to him at that point especially knowing the guy has been in the I need to prove myself position his entire NFL career. He nearly led them back on the road vs Minny and he did throw a key int think Schaub had a key int and then fumble as well . So I dont see any dropoff in play and I really dont think the line should be adjusted at all . I guess it has been though . Schaub has 18 starts with Houston throwing 17 picks fumbling 15 times losing 6 . So he is clearly turnover prone and just as responnsible IMO for Houston self destructive profile. With Rosenfals Houston was 4-1 LYR with him as the starter and again he put his team in position to beat Indy rather easily in his lone 08 start.

Not sure I agree that this is really a concern facing Balts defense who is thinned out with injuries especially at CB. Playing @ Minny isnt going to much different then Balt's defense @ Houston IMO .

Like I said the Ravens have been very good to me this year especially past few weeks even though I had Cle for the game was wise enough to have Balt 1st half and over . Interesting game for sure and if Houston didnt have this self destructive nature would love to ride them but thats not something I want vs Balt's defense .

Not much to add on the ATL game just a matter of where this line ends up . If its anything but a PK I basically bet the side where the value lies . I just think you have to remember that everything ATL is doing is versus bad teams . The teams they beat that were good saw 2 and 3 pt wins . I just think the value has been sucked out of them but again depends on how the betting market views NO. I havent seen them as that strong in 2008 so maybe thats why I see it as I do. I was pleasantly suprised by how the NO defense has played starting with the Minny game forward but I know they have had some more injuries and really need to look at that . I would probably grade the defenses a wash IMO. ATL has greatly improved but I also feel I cant lose sight of who they were entering this season and wonder does the favorable breaks in the schedule help more then it looks at the moment. I just feel looking at the game by game basis ATL really has taken advantage of bad teams . Michael Turner has 4 very good games and 4 medicore or poor games .

Turner 22c 220 yds vs Det
23c 104 yds vs KC
26c 121 yds @ GB (who was banged up)
31c 139yds @ OAK

14c 42 yds @ TB
18c 56 yds@ Car
25c 54 yds Chi
17c 58 yds @ Philly

Now I am not saying by any stretch NO defense is as good as those bottom 4 but I think it somewhere in bewteen the two lists . Which might mean 20c 80yds type effort.

Losing Grant hurts though but maybe Hollis Thomas could play and provide some help. Bryant Young could return as well . In general NO defense is fairly solid especially after last year . Only 12 passs TDs allowed after allowing 32 in 2007 and since the 1st 2 disasterous games they allowed just 1 100 yd rusher which was LT with 105 and about 96yds avg in those last 6 games . AP 21c 32 yds ...

NO will face a ATL defense which allowed 253 , 294 , 313 and 286 yds through the air before the OAK debacle err game .

Another tough game to make a clear read for me ....Good Luck on them.

Man, you always make me second guess my otherwise confident plays. Ah well...I hate buying off games, so I'll let 'em ride.

Thanks, as always, for the in depth feedback and input.

Sorry for doing that . I know its a pain to have to deal with the second guessing . We all do it . Just presenting my honest opinion on the games. I think they are both rough but many times I have pegged a game going alot different then some expected and it still loses in the end .

sharp report taken from blankets

JACKSONVILLE AT DETROIT: This game hasn't generated too much interest because of turmoil on both teams. Detroit doesn't have a quarterback, and just signed Daunte Culpepper as an emergency solution. Jacksonville's players are fighting with their head coach, and just lost last week to previously winless Cincinnati. How could you bet on either team?! Sharps who did bet took the dog at +7 (I'm seeing 6.5 in most places now) and the Under (as the total has dropped from 45 to 44). I don't expect this to be a game that generates much interest Sunday from the sharps or the public. Too many unknowns.
TENNESSEE AT CHICAGO: Here's another game with quarterback issues. At first it was thought that Rex Grossman would play for the Bears. The sharps hate Rex Grossman. He's just too turnover prone to trust. Late word this week though was that Kyle Orton was going to try and play with his sprained ankle. Is that any better? If Orton were 100% healthy, the sharps would like Chicago for sure getting a field goal at home against an undefeated team coming off an overtime win. Nobody stays undefeated in the NFL. Even powerful New England eventually lost last year. I think the sharps will wait for game day news before deciding on this one. I'm hearing some interest on the Under from the totals guys.
BUFFALO AT NEW ENGLAND: Early dog and Under money came in on this one. New England opened at -4.5 and is down to -3.5. The total dropped from 43 down to 41.5. I should note though that the line movement stopped at -3.5 rather than going through the field goal. That's a sign that the sharps don't really "love" Buffalo, or the number would have kept on dropping. Or, oddsmakers are concerned about getting public money on the Patriots at -3, so they're keeping it at 3.5 for the time being. I'm interested to see how the public bets this game. New England hasn't looked great as a favorite this year.
NEW ORLEANS AT ATLANTA: Totals guys loved the Over here, as it went from an opener of 48.5 up to 50. The number 48 is fairly common in the NFL. Oddsmakers opened it a tick higher than that hoping to discourage Over play. Yet, the money STILL came in! That tells you the totals experts had it pegged in the low 50's. Nothing yet of interest on the team side. New Orleans is coming in off a bye. Both of these are dome teams. The stage is certainly set for a shootout at least.
ST. LOUIS AT NY JETS: Early money came in on the Jets at -7. I'm now seeing -8 or -8.5 in most places. That surprised me because the Jets have a bad history as favorites. Some of that may have been sharps taking a position hoping that the public had fallen in love again with Brett Favre after the upset at Buffalo last week. St. Louis looked very bad in the loss to Arizona last week too. I'm guessing this is more about position-taking than anything else. The total has dropped from 47 down to 44.5. A lot of totals guys like playing Unders in the Northeast in the last two months of the season because of the weather. They'll buy positions off the openers on the assumption that the weather is going to be bad. If it turns out to be mild, they can always get off the play on game day by investing back on the Over. There's really no downside to that approach because totals rarely rise off the openers in the Northern cities at this stage of the season.
SEATTLE AT MIAMI: We have another Under here, with the total opening at 44 and going down to 42.5. Under in Miami has been a popular play with sharps this year. Seattle's offense isn't going to scare anyone. This is one of those "bad body clock" games I wrote about earlier this season. Sharps aren't doing much on the team side here because of that. They wouldn't lay a big number with a team like Miami. They've seen enough bad travel games so far that investing big in Seattle just doesn't make any sense right now. The money that did come in came lightly on the road dog. Some old-schoolers will take more than a TD from any team that isn't over .500. It's worked well for them over the years. Seattle hasn't traveled East very well this year though, and lucked into a last second back door cover at Tampa Bay.

GREEN BAY AT MINNESOTA: Big move on the total here, as the opener of 48 is now down to 44.5. The totals guys have been on a good run this year. The sportsbooks are reacting quickly when they see which way the wind is blowing. Well, this is a dome game but you know what I mean! The sharps like the Under here. Early money came in on Green Bay at +3. I'm now seeing Minnesota by 2.5 in most places. Usually, when a number sits at 2.5, the sharps are on the dog, and the public is on the favorite. The public hasn't really bet much yet because it's not the weekend. I wouldn't be surprised to see that line back up to -3 once the public gets involved. Green Bay at +2.5 qualifies for basic strategy teasers. I haven't mentioned those yet. The Jets and Dolphins will be popular at lines of -8 or -8.5 because you can bring it down to -2 or -2.5 in six-point teasers. Green Bay is in the mix at this line. Chicago might be too once the quarterback situation works itself out.
CAROLINA AT OAKLAND: Here's another teaser game, with Carolina opening at -7.5 and going up to -8.5. The sharps didn't like what they saw from the Raiders last week. That was an ugly performance against Atlanta. It didn't even look like the Raiders were trying. I don't think the Wise Guys will bet them until they see an effort. The total of 38 is already pretty low, so we haven't seen any Under money here. Not much interest in this one, though I'm guessing Carolina is part of many teasers.
KANSAS CITY AT SAN DIEGO: There was early money on the favorite and Over here, which is uncharacteristic of the sharps. San Diego opened at -14. I know some math guys graded it higher than that, so they acted at the critical number. Also, there may have been some position taking figuring that the public would be on the rested Chargers in must-win spot. Wise Guys did this a lot with New England at the bigger spreads last year. I'm seeing -15 or -15.5 now. A couple more ticks and there will be buy backs on the dog. The total is up from 46.5 to 47.5.
INDIANAPOLIS AT PITTSBURGH: This has been a dead spot all week because nobody knows who's going to quarterback the Steelers. As I write this, it's off the board in many places, or sitting circled at Pittsburgh -3 with no total. I can't tell you what the sharps are thinking because they don't have a number to bet at yet! They generally like getting points with Peyton Manning. But, many were rooting for Byron Leftwich last week after the public bet the Redskins line up. They wouldn't mind laying a small number with him. You'll have to read the tea leaves on your own Sunday afternoon with this one.
NY GIANTS AT PHILADELPHIA: The total here has fallen from 45 down to 43. Again, we see early Under money on a game in the Northeast. If the weather turns out to be great, you buy back on the Over and still have a middle set up. Smart way to play. The team side line opened at Philadelphia -3. Some Giants money has made Philly even money at -3 right now, and you have to lay -120 to take the field goal with the Giants in many places. More sentiment on the total than the team side so far.
(SUNDAY WRITE-IN) BALTIMORE AT HOUSTON: Early money hit Baltimore pretty hard, as Houston -2 fell to pick-em right away. Houston's quarterback is out now, meaning the backup (who's still pretty good) will be dealing with the strong Baltimore defense. I'm guessing that was a key reason. The total went up from 41 to 42, probably because both teams went Over last weekend. Note that this is an early kickoff even though it sits at the bottom of your schedule as a write-in game for Sunday...replacing Cincinnati/Houston that had been at the top before a hurricane jumbled things up.
SAN FRANCISCO AT ARIZONA: There was early underdog and Under sentiment at high openers of Arizona -11 and 49. I'm now seeing Arizona -9 and 46. If Mike Singletary is going to put his stamp on this 49ers team, that's going to mean intense defense and competitive play. So, you can deduce right there that the sharps are expecting Singletary to have an influence after a bye week. Also, J.T. O'Sullivan has been benched at quarterback. He was an "over" quarterback because he either moved the ball or made a lot of turnovers. Replacing him may be worth a field goal on the total right there.
The totals guys were very busy this week. We've seen a lot of team side action already, and there may be more on game day from the sharps once the public starts betting.

Not much talk out their on the NE/BUF game.
NE still depleted at RB position but Cassell has looked better at home than on the road and expect a completly healthy R. Moss. Ellis Hobbs practice was limited friday but Buf has its own injuries on defense. The Pats have beaten Buf 9 straight including last year 38-7, 56-10. Buf losing its last two to interdivision NYJ,MIA

Phins 1st Half
Pats -3 -120
Texans ML
Jags 1st H -3.5
Bears +3.5 -135
Bears 1st H

Still looking at NO , Rams , Jags(game) and probably one of my bigger plays of the season is SD -13.5 and -14 .....not sure about anything else....(SD TT over 31 pts and 2 team teaser SD and Over )

Arrghh...we're buttin' heads on a couple....but BOL nonetheless my man.

Thanks Hammer . GL as well . Outside of SD probably one of my 2 or 3 biggest plays of 2008.

Wound up playing Pats (and 1st H) , Jags and Saints passing on STL thankfully.....

Good start with the 1st H...

2nd H
Under 20.5 Miami (strong)- might add +3 Seattle as Miami really slowed down since the Pick 6 offensively.

Probably will add Titans small at -1.5 to middle some of my Bears +3.5

Saints either another 1/2 unit or 1 unit at -1/2

Houston -3 +105 (strong) . This is going like I expected . In the sense felt Balt won the 1st H but that early INT hurt on the goal line....

Looking at Jags under cause I expect them to run alot on the 2nd H .

Also will play GB
