8 Lefties on the hill tonight

Kershaw-Dodgers
Gonzalez-Nats
Holland-Texas
Finnegan-Reds
Pomeranz-Padres
Hill-A's
Moore-Rays
Chen-Marlins

I will be playing Nats Series for sure. They won 2/3 last week at Citi Field, Thor pitched yesterday that gives Nats a big leg up.
Here are the matchups

Mon-Gonzalez vs Colon advantage Nats
Tues-Strasburg vs Harvey HUGE advantage Nats..They KO'd Harvey last week
Weds-Roark vs Matz advantage Mets

Cards/Cubs series I'm interested in the price, think the Cards can take it

Kershsaw currently -$350 that price makes it unplayable for me

Gonzalez vs Colon

Stephen Strasburg and Max Scherzer have been the headliners of a starting five that's second in the majors with a 2.91 ERA, Gonzalez (3-1, 1.86 ERA) has certainly done his part by yielding one earned run or less in six of eight outings. The left-hander again accomplished the feat with 6 1/3 sharp innings in Wednesday's 7-1 win over New York, with Yoenis Cespedes' solo homer the lone damage among five hits.

The effort improved Gonzalez to 10-4 in 18 starts against the Mets, one of several division teams against which he's excelled. He's 7-1 with a 1.38 ERA over his last 15 matchups with NL East clubs, allowing two runs or fewer in each.

"Gio continues to be one of our best pitchers," manager Dusty Baker told MLB's official website. "He's getting better and better."

An ability to suppress the long ball - particularly at home - has keyed Gonzalez's success. He's surrendered five homers in 31 starts at Nationals Park since 2014 and none in four this season. Cespedes' homer was the Mets' only one in their past six meetings with Gonzalez, who is 4-0 with a 0.97 ERA during that stretch.

Home runs have usually been prevalent for New York (25-18), which leads the NL with 60 this season. The Mets hit four in sweeping a three-game weekend set with visiting Milwaukee after losing two of three at home to Washington.

Cespedes, who is 4 for 7 off Gonzalez, doubled and scored on Asdrubal Cabrera's tie-breaking two-run single in the fourth inning of Sunday's 3-1 win. Noah Syndergaard protected the lead by fanning 11 over seven dominant innings.

Washington (27-17) received its own strong performance from Scherzer to remain 1 1/2 games in front of New York for the division lead. The former Cy Young Award winner struck out eight over eight innings to cap a 4-2 road trip with Sunday's 8-2 victory at Miami.

Anthony Rendon had two hits and three RBIs and finished the trip 10 for 20 with seven RBIs. He's hitting .405 with a .519 on-base percentage over his last 12 games.

Rendon is 6 for 16 with a home run against Bartolo Colon (3-3, 3.75) and had a two-run single off the veteran to support Gonzalez in Wednesday's win.

Taking the mound one day shy of his 43rd birthday, Colon attempts to regroup from an uncommonly wild display against Washington. He issued five walks - his most since April 2005 - while allowing three runs in 4 2/3 innings to record a second consecutive loss.

'It just felt like I was on the mound, just walking around, it felt a little bit different," he said. "I couldn't just get that comfortable grip.'

New York, which swept a three-game set at Nationals Park in September en route to overtaking Washington for the NL East title, likely won't have first baseman Lucas Duda available for a third straight game due to a sore back. The Mets are worried that an extended absence lies ahead.

"I'm really concerned that this is going to keep this guy out for a while," manager Terry Collins said. "But that's just me. I'm not the doctor."

Kershaw

Kershaw (6-1, 1.67 ERA) has to be the last pitcher the Reds want to face after totaling nine runs and batting .197 while striking out 33 times in the last four of a 2-12 stretch.
The 28-year-old ace has struck out at least 10 with one or no walks in six consecutive starts, a MLB record he'll try to extend in the series opener. His run of six straight with at least 10 Ks is also a franchise mark and two shy of the major league record set by Pedro Martinez in 1999 and matched by Chris Sale last season.
With a MLB-best 88 strikeouts and four walks, Kershaw's strikeout-to-walk ratio of 22 to 1 is on pace to break Phil Hughes' 11.63 to 1 mark set in 2014. He's been even better lately with an 0.82 ERA, 48 strikeouts and one walk in four straight wins.
"Adjectives, superlatives - there are none," manager Dave Roberts told the league's official website. "He's consistent, and he's consistently great. ... He continues to do it, punches out guys, doesn't walk guys, and just continues to dominate."
Kershaw has gone at least seven innings in all nine outings and he'll try to provide some rest for an overworked bullpen. After using five relievers in Saturday's 3-2, 11-inning loss at San Diego, the club went through eight in Sunday's 9-5, 17-inning win.
Now the Dodgers (22-23) hope to put together back-to-back victories for the first time since a three-game run May 12-14 and win their seventh straight in this series. The Reds totaled 12 runs and hit .194 while dropping the last six of seven meetings in 2015.
Kershaw has a 2.12 ERA in his last five starts versus Cincinnati (15-29). Joey Votto is hitting .217 with two home runs and 12 strikeouts in 23 at-bats against him, but Brandon Phillips is hitting .360 with a home run in 25 at-bats and Jay Bruce has batted .294 with two homers in 17.

Holland

Holland stymied the Angels in the second game of the last home series, limiting them to four hits over six shutout innings in a 7-2 victory. The left-hander has surrendered three runs and seven hits over 12 1/3 innings to win his only two home meetings since 2013.

After allowing 16 runs over five innings in his two previous starts, Holland (3-3, 5.63 ERA) got back on track Monday when he gave up two over six in a 3-1 loss at Oakland.

"This was definitely better. A lot of positives I can take from this," Holland told the league's official website. "I just need to keep plugging away."

Holland will try to help Texas (25-19) capture its fifth win in eight meetings with Los Angeles and contribute to a pitching staff that had a 1.00 ERA in a three-game sweep at Houston. While he's 9-6 with a 5.22 ERA in 22 career starts against the Angels, the 29-year-old has gone 3-0 with a 2.49 mark in four matchups over the past two seasons.
Yunel Escobar has gone 3 for 6 with a home run and a double off him this season, though star sluggers Mike Trout and Albert Pujols are a combined 1 for 11.

Moore vs Chen

Moore yielded one run in seven innings in his only matchup with Miami last season but didn't get the decision in a 4-2 win Sept. 29. He is 2-0 with a 2.25 ERA in three lifetime starts against the Marlins.

Moore will pitch opposite Wei-Yin Chen (3-2, 4.22), who had a three-game winning streak snapped with a 3-1 loss in Philadelphia on Tuesday. The left-hander gave up three runs in six innings and received no runs of support. He had gotten 17 while posting a 4.01 ERA in his previous four starts.

Chen made 19 starts against Tampa Bay in his four seasons with AL East rival Baltimore, his most versus any team, and went 5-6 with a 3.55 ERA. He was 2-2 with a 4.19 ERA in six matchups last season.

Marlins center fielder Marcell Ozuna is batting .362 in a 13-game hit streak against the Rays. Miami slugger Giancarlo Stanton is batting .096 with 28 strikeouts in his past 15 contests and has hit .183 in his last 16 versus Tampa Bay.

Series prices just came out, Nats laying 175 is tough...Cards +125 isn't what I was looking for. I'll wait for later in the day to see where money goes to

5 Lefties on the hill tonight

Sale-White Sox
Price-Boston
Liriano-Pirates
Perez-Rangers
De La Rosa-Rockies

Sale

Dating to his last outing of 2015, Sale (9-0, 1.58 ERA) has won 10 straight starts with a 1.55 ERA while never giving up more than three runs.
He continued the run with little support in Thursday's 2-1 home win over Houston, surrendering a run and four hits while striking out nine in a second straight complete game.
"He's pretty darn good,' teammate Jimmy Rollins told MLB's official website. "Obviously what he's doing hasn't been done in an awful long time. It's special. He has a mission. He takes it on himself every time he takes the ball to go nine, and he's done a damn good job.'

The left-hander is now in position to be the first big leaguer to win 11 straight starts since Justin Verlander went 12 straight from July 21-Sept. 18, 2011. The last White Sox pitcher to do it was LaMarr Hoyt with 11 in a row in 1983-84.
The last pitcher to begin a season with wins in 10 straight starts was San Diego's Andy Hawkins in 1985, and Eddie Cicotte was the last to do it for the franchise with 12 straight for the infamous 1919 Black Sox before receiving a lifetime ban following 1920 for his part in allegedly throwing the World Series.
And Sale, who went eight straight starts with at least 10 strikeouts last season, is winning this year without once reaching that mark. His 8.17 strikeouts per nine innings is easily the lowest mark of his career after posting an 11.82 mark last season.

Price vs De La Rosa

Price was recording an uncharacteristic 6.75 ERA that belied a 4-1 record through his first seven starts in a Red Sox uniform, Price has looked more like the pitcher who's earned a Cy Young Award and five All-Star appearances in his last two. He struck out 12 while limiting Houston to a run over 6 2/3 innings May 12 and held Kansas City to two runs over 7 1/3 in Wednesday's 5-2 victory.

"I felt like that's the best I've commanded all my pitches from the beginning until I was taken out," Price told MLB's official website following his last outing. "That's definitely a step in the right direction."

Price (6-1, 5.53 ERA) has been well-supported by an offense that tops the majors with 256 runs and a .296 average, having received an AL-high 8.46 runs per nine innings. Boston (27-17) has been especially prolific at Fenway Park, where it's averaged 8.4 runs and hit .346 in winning 11 of 13.

David Ortiz led the latest barrage by going 4 for 4 with a homer and three RBIs in Sunday's 5-2 win over Cleveland. The 40-year-old slugger, who ended a triple away from his first career cycle, is hitting .358 with eight homers and 21 RBIs over a 20-game stretch.

'Wish he would have retired last year,' said Indians manager Terry Francona, Ortiz's former skipper in Boston. 'He's kind of on a different level right now. It looks like he's playing softball.'

Bradley singled in the fifth inning to extend his hitting streak to 27 games, one shy of matching the fifth-longest in team history, and Xander Bogaerts increased his to 16 with three hits and an RBI.

Bradley is batting .408 with eight homers and 29 RBIs during his run, while Bogaerts is hitting .403 over his streak.

Boston's offensive prowess has Jorge De La Rosa (1-3, 10.18) finding himself in a tough spot as he makes his return from a month-long stint on the disabled list. The veteran left-hander had allowed 23 earned runs in 20 1/3 innings in five starts prior to straining his left groin April 26.

De La Rosa prepped for this assignment by throwing 94 pitches in a seven-inning rehab start for Triple-A Albuquerque on Thursday.

"I threw a lot of strikes and went to the seventh," he said. "The fastball wasn't the only thing I was working on. I was working on a lot of things."

He has a 7-3 record and 3.23 ERA in 14 interleague starts during his nine-year tenure with the Rockies, though Colorado (21-22) has had little success against the AL of late. The Rockies went 5-15 in interleague play last season and are 19-56 since 2012, easily the majors' worst mark. They've lost 23 of 28 in AL parks.

Colorado makes its first visit to Boston since 2013 having lost four of five on its road trip. It's coming off Monday's 6-3 defeat to Pittsburgh in which the Pirates scored all their runs in the first three innings off Jordan Lyles.
The Rockies did receive a positive result from the struggling Carlos Gonzalez, who had two hits after going 2 for 32 over his previous 10 games.

Liriano

Pirates will now try to earn their 10th win in 13 games against the Diamondbacks. Pittsburgh won two of three in Arizona from April 22-24 and Liriano (3-3, 4.63 ERA) started the finale, a 12-10 victory in 13 innings.
The veteran left-hander gave up four runs in six innings - on a pair of homers - but will get to face the Diamondbacks at home this time. Liriano is 2-1 with a 1.37 ERA in three starts in Pittsburgh, and the Pirates had won in his past 13 starts there until a 3-1 defeat to Atlanta on Wednesday.
He yielded two runs in seven innings in that hard-luck loss.
Liriano was charged with five runs in seven innings in his only home start against Arizona on Aug. 18, a 9-8 victory in 15. He's 1-0 with a 3.73 ERA in five overall matchups.

6 Lefties on the hill today

Matz-Mets
Locke-Pirates
Kazmir-Dodgers
Santiago-Angels
Quintana-White Sox
Nicolino-Marlins

Quintana vs Kluber

Despite losing the first game of Monday's doubleheader, the Indians have scored 17 runs and hit seven homers in the series. Trying to get within one-half game of the AL Central-leading White Sox (27-20), Cleveland now looks to get the best of Quintana (5-3, 1.98 ERA).
Quintana allowed more than two runs for the first time in nine starts Friday, surrendering four along with eight hits in 6 1/3 innings of a 4-1 loss to Kansas City.
"I (tried) to get down in the zone, but I missed a couple pitches,' he said. 'That's what (happens) when you miss the zone.'
Quintana's teammates haven't helped by scoring one run in each of his last two outings after he received an average of 4.73 runs of support in the first seven.

He allowed two runs over 22 innings to win two of his three starts against the Indians last season. He tossed a seven-hitter in a 6-0 victory at Cleveland on July 24 in his final 2015 start against them.
"I think Quintana is kind of going under the radar because of Sale," Indians manager Terry Francona told MLB's official website. "But he is just having a hell of a year. He's commanding, he attacks the strike zone, he doesn't throw the ball over the middle of the plate.
"We've seen him (be) really good, and I've heard some comments from other teams, and they were like, 'Whoa.'"

Carlos Santana is 4 for 23 (.174) against Quintana and Yan Gomes is 1 for 15.
Mike Napoli, though, is 3 for 9 with a double and a home run against him. With two hits and two RBIs on Tuesday, Napoli is 5 for 14 with six RBIs and five runs against Chicago this season.
Corey Kluber (3-5, 4.10) went 0-2 with a 5.32 ERA in three starts against the White Sox last year, but he yielded a run and struck out 12 in nine innings of a 2-1, 10-inning loss in his most recent outing at Chicago one year ago last week.
The right-hander gave up nine runs in 9 1/3 innings of his two starts prior to beating Boston on Friday, allowing a run in each of the first two innings and lasting seven in a 4-2 victory.
"That's what your ace is supposed to do, but it's easier said than done,' Francona said.
Jose Abreu is 10 for 28 with two doubles and three home runs against Kluber and Melky Cabrera is 9 for 19 with three doubles.
Abreu had three hits Tuesday after going 2 for 20 in the previous five contests.

Matz vs Roark

looks to win a seventh consecutive start when he faces the Nationals for the first time Wednesday in D.C.

He beat the Los Angeles Dodgers on May 9, but he was forced to skip his next turn in the rotation because of the injury. An MRI revealed no damage, and Matz (6-1, 2.81 ERA) received the go-ahead to face Milwaukee on Friday.
He allowed two runs in seven solid innings of a 3-2 victory, making only one mistake on Chris Carter's two-run homer in the first. Matz is 10-1 in 13-regular-season starts since coming up in 2015 and is the first Mets pitcher to win 10 of his first 11 decisions.
'I'm a rhythm pitcher, so I got into the rhythm,' Matz said. 'We just kind of got into that groove, but I didn't really change anything. It's just one pitch (on the home run).'
Matz indeed controls the pace of games. He's one of the quickest-working pitchers in the majors in terms of seconds elapsed between deliveries, something that has helped him post a 1.35 ERA and 42 strikeouts in 40 innings during his six-start winning streak.
"Obviously, Matz is throwing really well right now," outfielder Michael Conforto said. "He's an aggressive pitcher. That pace, it might give us momentum. And I think that's a very good thing for us."
Matz has never faced the Nationals (28-18), who counter with Tanner Roark as he seeks to stay unbeaten against the Mets (26-19).

Roark (3-3, 2.89) allowed seven runs in his previous outing against Miami, then made critical adjustments that helped him beat the Marlins 4-1 on Friday while pitching 6 2/3 effective innings.
The right-hander felt that Miami, which has dealt him each of his losses this season, noticed that he was tipping his pitches during his delivery. Roark worked with the coaching staff to make the necessary changes.
'We looked at video,' Roark said. 'I would do certain things on certain pitches, so I made an adjustment. The game within the game - it was a minor adjustment, and it worked.'
Roark is 5-0 with a 2.52 ERA in six career starts against the Mets, including giving up three hits over six scoreless innings and getting a no-decision the last time he faced them Oct. 4.
He'll try to help the Nationals win for the sixth time in eight games after Tuesday's 7-4 victory. They hit a season-high five homers as Ben Revere, Daniel Murphy, Ryan Zimmerman, Anthony Rendon and Wilson Ramos all connected.
Bryce Harper was the only starter without a hit and is 4 for 30 over his last 10.

The Mets had a four-game winning streak snapped as Matt Harvey struggled again. Asdrubal Cabrera homered and Eric Campbell hit a two-run shot in the ninth.
Murphy, leading the majors with a .392 average, is 8 for 19 with two homers and six RBIs in five games this year against his former team.

Locke

Pirates will give the ball to Jeff Locke (2-3, 5.00) as they go after their eighth win in 10 games. The left-hander is coming off one of his best performances, allowing two runs over seven innings in Thursday's 8-2 home win over Atlanta.
Locke is 0-2 with a 7.88 ERA in three starts against the Diamondbacks, though he hasn't faced them since July 2014. Paul Goldschmidt is 5 for 9 in the matchup.
Phil Gosselin had two of the team's six hits Tuesday when Arizona fell to 2-2 on a six-game road swing.
Pittsburgh's Jordy Mercer is 11 for 23 over his last seven games and 7 for 16 in his past three versus Arizona.

Santiago vs Lewis

Lewis (3-0, 2.75 ERA) has gone at seven innings in five straight starts and made it through six in all nine of his outings while allowing four runs once. He might be coming off the best outing of the bunch after giving up four hits without a walk in seven scoreless innings of Friday's 2-1 win in Houston.
"He does a really good job of pounding the strike zone," Astros manager A.J. Hinch told MLB's official website. "There's a lot of first-pitch strikes, he can throw a couple of different styles of breaking balls and never really makes a mistakes against us. We just couldn't generate any offense against him."
The first of those seven-inning starts was his second win of the year and it came in a 4-2 home final against the Angels on April 29. Lewis allowed two runs and nine hits in seven innings for his best outing of a dismal stretch in the series that dates to the start of 2014. In his last 11 starts in the series, the right-hander is 3-7 with an 8.28 ERA.
In that time, Johnny Giavotella (5 for 11), Mike Trout (12 for 28 with four home runs, a triple and a double), Kole Calhoun (12 for 31 with a home run, triple and two doubles) and Albert Pujols (9 for 27 with three home runs and a double) have all pounded him.
Lewis faces Hector Santiago, who followed his best outing of the season with his worst. Santiago (3-2, 3.93) limited Seattle to two hits in eight innings of a 3-0 win on May 15, then gave up four runs and four hits with three home runs and three walks in 2 2/3 innings of Friday's 9-4 home loss to Baltimore.

The left-hander emerged with a no-decision after being ejected for apparently arguing balls and strikes on a few close pitches didn't go his way. He maintained that wasn't his intent.
"Our bullpen was backing us, but it (was wrong) on my part for reacting in that situation, but I don't think it should have escalated that fast and I don't think I did something to get ejected," Santiago said. "I could have held my peace a little more, but I don't think I did anything to get myself ejected right there."
Santiago is 6-3 with a 3.64 ERA in 15 career starts against the Rangers, though he's given up seven runs in 11 2/3 innings of two outings this season.
Rougned Odor has hit him best at 10 for 21 with a home run and three doubles, but Elvis Andrus is 5 for 31.
The Rangers (26-20) opened the series with Tuesday's 4-1 win as Nomar Mazara went 3 for 3 with a two-run homer to get to 9 for 23 with three home runs and six RBIs in his last six games. Ian Desmond remained hot with a 3-for-4 night and is 7 for 13 in his last three games.
The Angels (21-25) are in danger of going a sixth straight series against Texas without a series win.

5 Lefties on the hill today

Smyly-Rays
Duffy-Royals
Happ-Blue Jays
Sabathia-Yankees
Corbin-D'Backs

Happ vs Sabathia

Another aging Yankees star, CC Sabathia (3-2, 3.41 ERA) is healthy and seeking a third straight winning start. Fresh off the DL from a groin strain, the left-hander allowed a run and struck out eight in six innings of Friday's 8-3 victory at Oakland.
"I thought he got sharper as the night went on, which I think is even better," Girardi said. "You couldn't ask for anything more."
Sabathia, who has yielded only that run over 13 innings in his last two outings, has a 6.00 ERA while losing two of his last three starts against the Blue Jays (23-25).
Troy Tulowitzki is 3 for 5 against Sabathia and expects to face him again after sitting Wednesday with a sore right quadriceps.
"I feel good," said Tulowitzki, who is 6 for 20 in his last five games. "Just give it another day and make sure I'm good to go. A little sore, but nothing to worry about."
Former Yankees catcher Russell Martin homered twice Wednesday as Toronto snapped New York's six-game winning streak. The Blue Jays totaled six runs while losing two of three prior to the victory.
Chase Headley and Didi Gregorius each homered and combined for five hits for the Yankees (22-23), who were trying to move above .500 for the first time since April 13.
That was the same day J.A. Happ (5-2, 3.43) gave up a run in six innings of a 7-2 home win over New York.
After being roughed up for eight runs in two-plus innings of a 13-2 loss to Tampa Bay on May 16, the left-hander allowed all three of his runs in Minnesota's five-run eighth of Toronto's 5-3 defeat Saturday.
"Other than the eighth inning, I felt really good about it," he said.
Including the postseason, Rodriguez is 0 for 12 with three walks against Happ.

Duffy

Due to injuries to Chris Young and Kris Medlen, Duffy (0-0, 2.13 ERA) is a starter once more. He was limited to 48 pitches in a three-inning stint in a 4-2, 13-inning win over Atlanta on May 15.
The left-hander threw 63 pitches and lasted 4 1/3 scoreless innings in Saturday's 2-1 victory over Chicago. It's not clear what his pitch count will be at Thursday.

"I try to be available when my team calls upon me to do something," Duffy said. "That's what's happened the past two outings."
Austin Jackson is 8 for 25 with a homer off Duffy, and Jose Abreu is 7 for 19 with one homer.
Duffy will once again be opposed by right-hander Miguel Gonzalez (0-1, 4.57), who gave up two runs over six innings with eight strikeouts Saturday to drop to 0-4 with a 6.00 ERA in his last four outings versus Kansas City

Smyly vs Fernandez

Fernandez (6-2, 3.02 ERA) has a 2.03 ERA with 46 strikeouts over a five-start stretch, and he's yielded two runs in 20 innings over the last three. One of those runs came along with nine strikeouts through six of a 3-2 win over Washington on Saturday.
"He was really good," manager Don Mattingly said. "He's smoothing out, you see him using his pitches."
The right-hander is looking to become the first Marlin since Javier Vazquez in 2011 to win six consecutive starts.
Fernandez, who attended high school in Tampa, has lost his only two career starts against the Rays (21-23) - both at Tropicana Field - with a 5.79 ERA.
Evan Longoria homered off Fernandez in October for his lone hit in five at-bats head-to-head.
Fernandez won't be the only starter trying for a needed win at Tropicana Field.
Drew Smyly (2-5, 3.54) is 0-3 with a 4.01 ERA in four starts there. He's allowed two earned runs in each of his last three in town, but the Rays have provided him a combined two runs of support.
Making his first home appearance since May 4, the left-hander has gone 1-2 with a 5.51 ERA on the road since then. He gave up three runs on two homers in 6 1/3 innings of a 5-4 loss at Detroit on Saturday.
"He threw really well, kept us off-balance, used all his pitches," Tigers catcher James McCann told MLB's official website. "But we were able to get to him."
Smyly's only start against the Marlins (24-22) came Sept. 30 when he yielded a run and struck out eight in six innings of a 6-4 home victory.
He has never faced Giancarlo Stanton, and it's uncertain if he will get the chance in this contest. The Miami slugger, batting .119 with two homers and 29 strikeouts in his last 17 games, sat out Wednesday's 4-3 victory with soreness in his right side.
'There was a little bit of this going on in spring training at different times so at this point I'm not really that concerned,' Mattingly said. "Hopefully it's not something major, it's a day or two. I think that's what it was in the spring, but we'll find out.'
Teammate Christian Yelich could be out of the starting lineup for a sixth consecutive game with back spasms.
"I feel a little better about where he's at,' Mattingly said of Yelich, batting .320 with 20 RBIs in 42 games. 'We're going to be careful with him, but we feel like we're getting close with him.'
Batting .331, Miami's Marcell Ozuna has reached base safely in a career-high 32 straight games. He's hitting .414 in 16 career games against Tampa Bay.
Longoria batted .357 during a 10-game hitting streak before going 1 for 11 in the three games against Miami this week.
Tampa Bay has dropped four of five.

Uras vs DeGrom

Urias makes his major league debut Friday night as the Dodgers begin a three-game series with the Mets that already contained one intriguing storyline.
With Alex Wood scratched due to a sore triceps, Urias will be promoted from Triple-A Oklahoma City and become the first 19-year-old pitcher since Felix Hernandez in 2005 to start an MLB game. He'll be the youngest Dodger hurler since another Mexican left-handed phenom, Fernando Valenzuela, made his debut at age 19 in September 1980.
Urias earned the call-up with dazzling numbers at Oklahoma City, compiling a 4-1 record and 1.10 ERA in seven starts and one relief appearance while throwing 27 consecutive scoreless innings.

They've lost three of Jacob deGrom's last four starts, with the 2015 All-Star going 0-1 with a 4.63 ERA while receiving seven runs over that stretch. He allowed a season-high four in five innings of New York's 5-4 win over Milwaukee on Saturday.
DeGrom (3-1, 3.07) did hold the Dodgers to two runs over a season-high seven innings in a no-decision May 10. He was a major factor in the Mets' besting Los Angeles in five games in the NLDS, surrendering two runs and amassing 20 strikeouts in winning both starts.
New York has hit 10 homers in winning five of six. David Wright has gone deep in back-to-back games after going 5 for 36 with one RBI and 17 strikeouts over his previous 10.
"Hopefully I can lock it in mentally, how it kind of feels - the swing, the pitch selection, the rhythm, the timing, and things like that - and start to be more consistent," he told MLB's official website.
The teams split a four-game set at Dodger Stadium from May 9-12.

Lester vs Morgan

left-handed Adam Morgan (1-2, 5.61 ERA) taking the ball at Wrigley Field. The 2015 NL Rookie of the Year is hitting .213 against lefties compared to .303 versus righties, and has fared worse at Wrigley (.233) than on the road (.311).
Anthony Rizzo is in the midst of a 3-for-38 slump and is 7 for 47 (.149) against lefties on the season. He had the majors' sixth-best average for a left-handed batter against southpaws last year at .294.
Odubel Herrera has been Philadelphia's top hitter, batting .356 while hitting safely in 28 out of 31 games since being moved to the leadoff spot. However, he is 3 for 19 versus lefties since May 8 and will get his first look at Jon Lester (4-3, 2.60).
The Phillies expect to have No. 3 hitter Maikel Franco in the lineup after he left Wednesday with a sprained right ankle. He is 7 for 15 in his last four games but hitless in six career at-bats against Lester, who is coming off a rare poor outing.
After yielding zero or one run in six of eight starts, Lester was tagged for five and walked a season-high three despite going 2 2/3 innings - his shortest outing since August - in Saturday's 5-3 loss at San Francisco.
He is 4-0 with a 1.76 ERA in six career starts against the Phillies, throwing seven innings of two-run ball in a matchup last July at Wrigley.
Morgan was coming off a rough outing of his own before bouncing back Saturday against Atlanta, allowing two runs over six innings in a 2-0 loss. He permitted seven runs in 3 2/3 innings in a 9-4 loss to Cincinnati six days earlier.
The Phillies went 5-2 against the Cubs last season, winning all three at Wrigley.

Hamels vs Niese

One edge for Banister is that he begins the series with Hamels, who is 12-0 with a 2.99 ERA in his last 18 regular-season starts. Hamels (5-0, 2.83 ERA) has tied Bobby Witt's club record for consecutive wins.
In addition, the left-hander is 7-0 with a 3.87 ERA in 13 career outings in Arlington including one victory over the Rangers. He can match Barry Zito as the only other pitcher to begin 8-0 at Globe Life Park.
Hamels gave up two runs in eight innings with a season-high 11 strikeouts in Sunday's 9-2 rout at Houston.
He's 3-2 with a 2.43 ERA in nine starts against Pittsburgh. Andrew McCutchen is 7 for 24 with a homer in this matchup.
Hamels will have a red-hot hitter in the lineup to support him in Nomar Mazara, who has four homers in his last seven games and went deep for the second straight contest in Wednesday's 15-9 win over the Los Angeles Angels.
It's unlikely that Rougned Odor will play since a decision is expected before Friday's game on the second baseman's appeal of an eight-game suspension for punching Toronto's Jose Bautista during a May 15 brawl.
Rangers outfielder Ian Desmond is hitting .385 with 15 RBIs in his last 18 games. Desmond has the most at-bats among Texas hitters against Pirates starter Jonathon Niese, going 8 for 29.
Niese (4-2, 4.75) allowed one run in seven innings in a no-decision in Saturday's 5-1 loss to Colorado. The left-hander is 1-0 with a 4.50 ERA in two starts against the Rangers.
Pittsburgh (27-19) has won four straight and nine of 11. Gregory Polanco went 7 for 13 with six RBIs in a three-game sweep of Arizona capped by Thursday's 8-3 win.

Friedrich vs Ray

San Diego has lost four in a row overall and eight of 10.
The Padres will send out Christian Friedrich (0-1, 2.89) for his third start of the season. He lasted only 3 1/3 innings last Friday, giving up two runs, six hits and three walks while throwing 75 pitches in a 7-6 home win over the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The left-hander has faced the Padres 13 times, though only one of those appearances was a start. He's posted a 1.69 ERA over 16 innings in those matchups.
Arizona's Rickie Weeks is 4 for 7 against Friedrich with a homer, triple and double.
Friedrich will be opposed by Robbie Ray (2-3, 4.18 ERA), who's allowed three earned runs in 12 innings over the past two starts. He's 1-3 in his last five outings, during which he received no runs of support in four of them.
Ray has thrown more than 100 pitches in each of his last four starts but made it to the sixth inning once in that span.
The left-hander has lost all three career starts against San Diego - each coming last season - with a 4.96 ERA. Matt Kemp is 3 for 8 with a home run and a double against him, while Derek Norris is 2 for 6 with a homer and a double.
Arizona took two of three April 15-27 at Petco Park in the teams' first meeting this season.

8 Lefties on hill today

Keuchel-Astros
Chen-Marlins
Bumgarner-Giants
Gonzalez-Nats
Rodon-White Sox
Boyd-Tigers
Moore-Rays
Miley-Mariners

Keuchel

Keuchel will try to avoid his longest losing streak in four years while helping the visiting Astros even this three-game series Saturday night against Jered Weaver and the Angels.
Houston (20-29) had a 2.03 ERA during a season-high three-game winning streak before Mike Fiers allowed seven runs over just 3 2/3 innings in Friday's 7-2 defeat.
Now the Astros, tied with Oakland for last in the AL West, are turning to Keuchel (2-6, 5.92 ERA) as they look to avoid a 17th loss in 24 road games. The 2015 AL Cy Young Award winner, however, hasn't been anywhere near the same pitcher he was last season.

The left-hander allowed at least five runs for the fifth time in 10 starts Sunday after giving up that many three times in 33 outings during his 20-win season a year ago. Keuchel surrendered seven runs over six innings in that contest, a 9-2 loss to Texas.
The 28-year-old has gone 0-5 with a 7.78 ERA over his last seven starts. It's his longest losing streak since a seven-game slide during his 2012 rookie season.
"Dallas is searching for answers," manager A.J. Hinch told MLB's official website. "It's a bad stretch of starts, but he's going to figure it out and it's going to start with his mechanics and body positioning and how consistently he can get back to getting down the hill. His pitches are really good."
Keuchel has gone 5-1 with a 2.49 ERA in his last seven meetings with Los Angeles (22-26).
Mike Trout went 5 for 12 with a home run when facing him last season, though Albert Pujols was 0 for 12. Trout doubled and drove in three runs Friday while Pujols hit his 570th career home run to move within three of Harmon Killebrew for 11th all-time.
The Angels have won four of six at home

Gonzalez

The Nationals left-hander is coming off his worst outing of the season and the first with Wilson Ramos calling the signals, but Gonzalez remains very tough on lefty hitters and that could lead to the red-hot Matt Adams remaining on the bench.
Gonzalez (3-2, 2.87 ERA) has been backstopped in every game by Jose Lobaton, including 6 1/3 innings of one-run ball against the New York Mets on May 18. Five days later against the same team but with Ramos catching, Gonzalez allowed season highs of seven runs and 10 hits in five innings.
With left-handed hitters batting .194 against Gonzalez and all seven hits being singles, Adams might get an extra day off despite sounding ready to play. Adams sat out Friday's 6-2 win due to a stiff back which forced him out of Thursday's 2-1 loss in the series opener.

Rodon

Rodon (2-4, 4.47 ERA) had his plus-slider working for Chicago (27-22) on Sunday when he earned his first victory since April 13. He allowed two runs over 6 2/3 innings in a 3-2 win after Kansas City had opened the series with 4-1 and 2-1 victories.
"His confidence grows as he goes along, of just who he is and where he belongs and how he's doing,' manager Robin Ventura said of his 23-year-old left-hander.
Rodon hopes to stymie the defending champs again in the second of this rain-shortened three-game series. He owns a 3.20 ERA over his last four home starts, but he's struggled with a 6.59 mark in his past two on the road.
Lorenzo Cain and Paulo Orlando had two hits apiece when facing Rodon last weekend.
Eric Hosmer did most of the damage Friday with three hits and four RBIs as Kansas City rallied from a four-run, sixth-inning deficit for a 7-5 victory in the series opener. He had a two-run single off left-hander Zach Duke to put the Royals ahead in the seventh.
"(Duke has) got really good offspeed stuff,' Hosmer said of his go-ahead hit. "I told myself that's what he likes to go to. I just wanted to see it. I put something in play, trying to make something happen and finally had some luck on my side, our side.'
Rookie Whit Merrifield had his fourth straight two-hit game and added two RBIs.
Even without the injured Mike Moustakas, Kendrys Morales and Alex Gordon, the Royals (25-22) have averaged 7.3 runs and batted .360 over their last four games. They've also moved within one game of the AL Central-leading White Sox by winning eight of 11.

Moore

Moore (1-3, 5.47), though, allowed 10 hits and five runs - including three in the first - of Monday's 7-6 loss to Miami and is winless over his past six starts with a 6.89 ERA.
However, he was encouraged by his outing.
'I felt great,' Moore said. 'I felt I got better as the game went on. I made some good pitches when I needed to.'
Moore has made a lot of pitches in a short amount of time lately, though. He hasn't recorded an out in the sixth inning in any of his last four starts after going at least into the seventh in each of his previous four.
The left-hander went 6 2/3 innings against the Yankees on April 22 but gave up four runs in a 6-3 loss.

Sale vs Volquez

Chris Sale (9-1, 2.26 ERA), though the Royals may be catching the Chicago ace at the right time. The standout left-hander had his season-opening nine-start winning streak snapped when he was tagged for six runs in 3 1/3 innings in Tuesday's 6-2 loss to Cleveland.
Sale had allowed six earned runs total over his previous seven outings and yielded two in complete games against the Yankees and Houston in his two prior starts.
He hasn't fared particularly well recently against Kansas City, nor have the White Sox as a team. They've lost six of the last seven meetings and are 14-29 in the series since 2014.
Sale is 0-2 with a 5.40 ERA over his last three meetings with Kansas City and several Royals have hit him well. Alcides Escobar is hitting .385 off him and Lorenzo Cain .349 with three homers.
Chicago (27-23) has lost a season-high five straight and 13 of its last 17.
'It's tough, especially after (Friday),' manager Robin Ventura said. 'As difficult as (Friday) was, you get yourself some runs and get into a position where you can earn a win. Then that last inning, a couple walks, a tipped ball, things like that. You can't close it out, and you get punished like that."
Edinson Volquez (5-4, 3.67) tries to extend Chicago's misfortune and earn a third win in four starts. He's coming off Tuesday's 6 2/3-inning stint at Minnesota in which he allowed two earned runs in a 7-4 victory.
Volquez went 1-2 with a 1.80 ERA in four 2015 starts against the White Sox, receiving nine runs of support in those games.

Kershaw vs Colon

Kershaw 7-1 1.48 ERA will look to finish off his red hot May. In which he has posted a perfect 5-0 record with a 0.64 ERA while holding batted to a .144 batting average. Over his 5 game span Kershaw has allowed 20 hits and issued just 2 walks while striking out 55 batters over 42 innings.

Colon 4-3 3.44 ERA in 8 career starts against the Dodgers he is 2-6 with a 5.54 ERA

Price

Making his first appearance at Rogers Centre since joining the rival Boston Red Sox, Price looks to reprise his previous role and deny a three-game sweep by his former club in Sunday's finale.
Price's stay in Toronto was short but highly successful, with the five-time All-Star amassing a 9-1 record and a 2.30 ERA in 11 regular-season starts after being acquired from Detroit in late July to help the Blue Jays end a 22-year postseason drought. He's making a similar impact so far in Boston, winning seven of his first eight decisions in the first year of a lucrative seven-year contract.

Price (7-1, 5.34) began his Red Sox tenure with a 6.75 ERA through seven starts but is 3-0 with a 2.57 ERA over his past three. He extended the streak by holding Colorado to three runs over seven innings of Tuesday's 8-3 victory.
The 31-year-old did face the Blue Jays at Fenway Park on April 16, striking out nine and allowing two runs in seven innings to improve to 17-2 in 22 starts against Toronto. Price is 8-0 with a 2.84 ERA in 10 meetings since last losing to the Jays with Tampa Bay on Sept. 23, 2011.
Price's next assignment will be preventing the Red Sox' first four-game skid of 2016 and putting Saturday's difficult loss behind. After tying the game with a four-run rally in the eighth inning, the Blue Jays scored twice more in the ninth to pull out a 10-9 win for their fourth consecutive victory.

Perez vs Liriano

Liriano takes the ball with momentum from his last two starts, he also carries in a five-game road resume that includes a 1-2 record and 7.00 ERA.
After a dismal outing against the MLB-leading Chicago Cubs in which he gave up eight runs in 4 2/3 innings May 13, Liriano (4-3, 4.30 ERA) regrouped at home. Between a 3-1 loss to Atlanta on May 18 and Tuesday's 12-1 win over Arizona, he surrendered just nine hits and three runs in 12 2/3 innings.
He gave up two hits and a run in 5 2/3 innings against the Diamondbacks, though he did walk five.
"The chase rates he's been able to create over the last three years with his changeup and slider are off the charts, because it looks like a strike," manager Clint Hurdle told MLB's official website. "I think this year there's been times where it just doesn't look like as much of a strike as the other times, and they're backing off."
Liriano's misstep against the Cubs was his only start of his last five allowing more than two runs.
The southpaw has won his last four starts against Texas with a 1.63 ERA but hasn't faced them since 2013. Beltre is the only current Rangers hitter with a home run off Liriano along with three doubles while batting .300 in 30 at-bats.
While Liriano has struggled on the road, Perez is 2-1 with a 2.08 ERA in five starts in Arlington.
Perez (2-4, 3.13) got his first win of May with another strong start Tuesday, tossing six innings in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Los Angeles Angels.
The left-hander had been 0-2 for the month despite a 2.59 ERA in four starts, and he dropped that number to 2.08 as he struck out six. He stranded the bases loaded in the sixth inning while facing the middle of the Angels' order.
'It was probably as calm as we've seen him in those type of situations all year long,' manager Jeff Banister said. 'Early on in the season, those type of situations he let speed up on him and seemed to get out of control and would lose the strike zone.'
Perez, whose run support average of 2.39 is the AL's worst, made his only career start against Pittsburgh in September 2013 when he gave up nine hits and four runs in five innings of a 5-4 loss.
Jordy Mercer (3 for 3, two doubles), Andrew McCutchen (2 for 3) and David Freese (3 for 9, double, triple) have fared well in the matchup.
