Johan Santana is a New York Met

the Mutts will still blow it, not even best team in their own city and NEVER will be

and about this trade

imo, no team was asked to give up more than the Yankees.

Hughes, Melkman, and Kennedy vs. all this other bullshit being thrown around

Congrats Mutts, you are likely the best team in the NL. Whoopie do. Thats like being the tallest Midget

This is a steal by the Mets, Humber had 1 game of ML experience, Mulvey is a recent draft pick & I have no idea who Guerra, Gomez has got to be the jewel of this trade for the Twins.

This finally brings the mets the ace they needed without giving up Pelfrey or their best OF prospect in Martinez.

Now the mets just need to sign him to an extension, they say they will not go higher then 5 years but at this rate they have to do whatever it takes to get this deal done! Great day for Mets fans!

i can't beleive this deal finally finalized it this was going to be like teh kobe trade rumors that everyone wants a peice but no one does anything.

I think minnesota made out in the end.

You know Selig has to be loving the timing of this annoucement only question is, are there any sports media members left in ny to cover this trade.

don't hate on midgets etg ;)

love it for the tigers, get his ass out of the AL central...thanks nym.

Not sure how you can say that, Santana is coming to the national league his era should drop even lower now (no dh, more pitcher friendly park in shea) and the mets get a bonafide ace for Carlos Gomez (granted he is a speedster in the outfield and has plenty of talent) but the Mets gave up practically no major league talent besides Gomez.

haha hunt, i'm sorry

it just, next to Boston, there is no baseball team I hate more than the Mutts and its strictly because of their fanbase. They SUCK

If there are any Mutt fans on here, :down2::down2:

According to Baseball America the Mets gave up there #2, #3, #4, and #7 prospects for him.

Background: Last April, many 17-year-old Americans were heading off to high school proms. Guerra, who signed for $700,000 in 2005, was starting on Opening Day for high Class A St. Lucie. He also pitched in the Futures Game in San Francisco, recovering from a bout with shoulder tendinitis that sidelined him for most of May.

Strengths: Guerra has two present above-average pitches that could become well above-average. His fastball had below-average velocity for most of his first season, but now it ranges from 89-94 mph and touches 96. He features excellent arm speed on his changeup, his best offering since he signed, and it should become a big league out pitch once he commands it.

Weaknesses: While Guerra's curveball remains a below-average pitch, he has shown an ability to spin the ball and it projects as an average offering. At 18, Guerra still is learning the finer arts of pitching, such as holding runners, fielding his position and pitch sequences.

The Future: Guerra has thrown just 179 pro innings and has plenty of projection in his big-shouldered frame. The Mets have monitored Guerra's workload carefully, and he has plenty of projection in his big-shouldered frame. His next goal will be to stay healthy and pass the 100-inning level.</td> </tr> <tr> <td colspan="2"> </td> </tr> <tr> <td colspan="2" align="center"> <table style="border: 1px solid rgb(0, 71, 133);" cellpadding="2" cellspacing="0" width="100%"> <tbody> <tr style="color: rgb(255, 255, 255);" bgcolor="#004785" valign="top"> <td>2007 Club (Class)</td> <td align="center">W</td> <td align="center">L</td> <td align="center">ERA</td> <td align="center">G</td> <td align="center">GS</td> <td align="center">CG</td> <td align="center">SV</td> <td align="center">IP</td> <td align="center">H</td> <td align="center">HR</td> <td align="center">BB</td> <td align="center">SO</td> <td align="center">AVG</td> </tr> <tr valign="top"> <td>St. Lucie (Hi A)</td> <td align="center">2</td> <td align="center">6</td> <td align="center">4.01</td> <td align="center">21</td> <td align="center">20</td> <td align="center">0</td> <td align="center">0</td> <td align="center">90</td> <td align="center">80</td> <td align="center">9</td> <td align="center">25</td> <td align="center">66</td> <td align="center">.240</td> </tr> </tbody> </table></td> </tr> <tr> <td colspan="2"> </td> </tr> <tr> <td align="center" bgcolor="#000000" width="5%">3.</td> <td bgcolor="#004785" width="95%"> Carlos Gomez, of Born: Dec. 4, 1985B-T: R-RHt: 6-4Wt: 195</td> </tr> <tr> <td colspan="2" bgcolor="#ebebeb"> Signed: Dominican Republic, 2002Signed by: Eddy Toledo</td> </tr> <tr> <td colspan="2">

Background: Gomez finished his fast-track trip to the major leagues in 2007 and was the National League's youngest player when he debuted in May. He broke the hamate bone in his left hand on a checked swing in July, however, and missed two months following surgery.

Strengths: A true five-tool athlete, Gomez has game-changing speed and a well above-average arm, tools that help make him a premium defender in center field. He also has excellent bat speed that leads to projections of at least average power, if not more. Scouts said Gomez brought needed energy to the Mets.

Weaknesses: Hitting will be the last tool to develop for Gomez. He's still searching for the balance between aggressiveness and plate discipline. While he showed increased patience in 2007, it came at the expense of his power production.

The Future: Gomez likely will compete with Lastings Milledge for the right-field job in spring training. Milledge has more offensive polish, which could push Gomez back to Triple-A at the season's outset.</td> </tr> <tr> <td colspan="2"> </td> </tr> <tr> <td colspan="2" align="center"> <table style="border: 1px solid rgb(0, 71, 133);" cellpadding="2" cellspacing="0" width="100%"> <tbody> <tr style="color: rgb(255, 255, 255);" bgcolor="#004785" valign="top"> <td>2007 Club (Class)</td> <td align="center">AVG</td> <td align="center">OBP</td> <td align="center">SLG</td> <td align="center">AB</td> <td align="center">R</td> <td align="center">H</td> <td align="center">2B</td> <td align="center">3B</td> <td align="center">HR</td> <td align="center">RBI</td> <td align="center">BB</td> <td align="center">SO</td> <td align="center">SB</td> </tr> <tr valign="top"> <td>New Orleans (AAA)</td> <td align="center">.286</td> <td align="center">.363</td> <td align="center">.414</td> <td align="center">140</td> <td align="center">24</td> <td align="center">40</td> <td align="center">8</td> <td align="center">2</td> <td align="center">2</td> <td align="center">13</td> <td align="center">15</td> <td align="center">23</td> <td align="center">17</td> </tr> <tr valign="top"> <td>New York (NL)</td> <td align="center">.232</td> <td align="center">.288</td> <td align="center">.304</td> <td align="center">125</td> <td align="center">14</td> <td align="center">29</td> <td align="center">3</td> <td align="center">0</td> <td align="center">2</td> <td align="center">12</td> <td align="center">8</td> <td align="center">27</td> <td align="center">12</td> </tr> <tr valign="top"> <td>St. Lucie (Hi A)</td> <td align="center">.154</td> <td align="center">.267</td> <td align="center">.154</td> <td align="center">13</td> <td align="center">1</td> <td align="center">2</td> <td align="center">0</td> <td align="center">0</td> <td align="center">0</td> <td align="center">0</td> <td align="center">1</td> <td align="center">4</td> <td align="center">2</td> </tr> </tbody> </table></td> </tr> <tr> <td colspan="2"> </td> </tr> <tr> <td align="center" bgcolor="#000000" width="5%">4.</td> <td bgcolor="#004785" width="95%"> Kevin Mulvey, rhp Born: May 26, 1985B-T: R-RHt: 6-1Wt: 195</td> </tr> <tr> <td colspan="2" bgcolor="#ebebeb"> Drafted: Villanova, 2006 (2nd round)Signed by: Scott Hunter</td> </tr> <tr> <td colspan="2">

Strengths: Mulvey throws four pitches for strikes and keeps everything down. His fastball, which sits at 87-91 mph and touches 94, features good sink and run. He dominated righthanders, limiting them to a .224 average and no homers. His mid-70s curveball with 11-to-5 break and his low-80s slider both are average pitches, and at times his slider is a put-away offering. His changeup shows signs of being average. His competitiveness makes his whole greater than the sum of his parts.

Weaknesses: Mulvey has trouble against lefthanders because he can't work them inside easily. At times his changeup is too firm. He has lost 2-3 mph off his fastball from his days at Villanova, but he could gain some of that back as he gets accustomed to the pro workload.

The Future: He'll open 2008 in Triple-A, but Mulvey could get a look in the rotation by midseason. He made just 15 pro starts before needing Tommy John surgery in July 2005, and he hasn't been the same pitcher since. He made his first big league start in September, giving up five runs in four innings.

Strengths: Humber still has the best curveball in the organization, and he has learned to shorten it up a bit and throw it for quality strikes. He's learning to spot his fastball better down in the zone, where it has more life. His changeup, which he has used since junking the splitter he had in college, has developed into an average pitch.

Weaknesses: At times Humber still tries to pitch up in the strike zone, and he doesn't have that kind of velocity anymore. His fastball ranges from 87-91 mph after he used to touch 94-95 at Rice. He's still refining his command two years after his elbow reconstruction.

The Future: Humber is likely ready for on-the-job training in the majors, but he'll have to earn the spot in spring training. Nice find Fondy, but it still comes down to the fact beside Gomez none of these players/pitchers even project to be more then a back of the rotation starter. Fernando Martinez is the highest rated prospect the mets have in their farm system and they did not even have to give him up.

this should certainly help me get better odds on LA winning the NL pennant this season.

Odds should be good already with the improvements Arizona made to their rotation & San Diego always seems to be in the hunt it could be tough for the Dodgers to even make the playoffs.

For prospects.

So says Peter Gammons of ESPN.

As a YANKEES fan I applaud the new Mr. Steinbrenner's for not giving in to Minnesota and hanging on to the valuable young Yanks: Hughes (who'll be competing for CY's soon), Melky (a proven Pinstripper with + CF D and improving O) and Kennedy (solid 2-3 rotation piece or valuable Summer trading chip).

Yankees fans remember this past DYNASTY was helped along by some amazing HOMEGROWN TALENT: Jeter, Posada, Rivera, Pettitte, Bernie

And the future of our NEW DYASTY: Cano, Joba, Hughes, Melky, Wang...oh yea, how about that damn Mr. Clutch only being 32...

mets fucking stole and got away with it the more i look at it. santana is young and a multiple cy young winner and gets traded for no proven young guys??

Hunt - Total agreement but the Twins cost themselves by getting greedy and taking a gamble on an all out Boston/NY pissing match for Santana.

For the Mets, their time to strike is right now so using your #2,3,4,7 prospects as a mortgage works out.

Gomez is no where near ready to be a consistent hitter. The guy can run and steal a bunch of bases but he had to BUNT to get on base.

Twins are atleast 3+ years from seeing any benefit from this trade

Worst trade of all TIMES....

I'm sorry Counselor. I can't imagine being a fan of a cheap organization since I'm a Yankee fan.

If you guys kept Santana and Liriano was 100% with the lineup and bullpen you got, you would have been a scary team for anyone in the league to deal with.

This was a steal for the Mets no doubt. Santana definately is looking through the rear view mirror vs. the front window but he is got at least 3 more rock solid years and the Mets have nothing in their rotation besides Maine and he's a 2 at best. There was a reason the Yanks had to put the best package out there and it's because Minnesota's new GM didn't want to deal with them so. With that said, Hughes, Melky and a mid-tier prospect is MUCH better than what the Twins got from the Mets or what they would have got from the Sox.
Thank goodness because Melky and Hughes will be there to bring the championships back to the Bronx

Ya know who Id hate to be right now? Johan Santana's elbow...

Im starting the countdown till it blows out...

107 days 7 hours 31 minutes 29 seconds...

With Johan Santana reportedly looking for a six-year, $150 million extension, negotations between the Mets and the left-hander's agent are unlikely to conclude Thursday.

There's a Friday afternoon deadline for talks. Something is still very likely to get done, but according to Jayson Stark, the Mets are aiming lower on both the money and the years. A compromise would be for the sixth year to be in the form of a vesting option. Jan. 31 - 1:25 pm et

if the mets didn't sign him, the twins would be totally ass fucked because then they won't get anything

Great trade for the Mets, but I still like the Phillies to win this division. I can't wait to throw down my Phillies NL East bet now.

BTW, is there any organization that routinely puts out more overrated minor league prospects than the Mets? Alex Ochoa, Jay Payton, Izzy Pulse and Paul and the list goes on and on. How long are teams going to buy their BS?

Agreed...

and I was being serious about Santanas elbow...he mysteriously quit throwing his slider at the end of last year and has logged a ton of innings over the last few years...hes due for some surgery
