Injuries this week

Goodbye to Romance College Football
Lots of injury reports out there...any of note that should be posted here? Or maybe updates on previously injured players?

I see Oregon State RB Artavis Pierce is out 4 weeks. 168y vs Ohio State and 95y vs Southern Utah prior to injury. Jermar Jefferson ran for 238 in his absence, so maybe not as huge deal for Beavs.

Rodney Anderson is out for the year.

SD St QB Chapman has sprained MCL and DT Hall has dislocated wrist, both out 3-6 weeks.

Daniels said his hand was swollen, which meant he had to change his grip on the football. He was not sharp for much of the game, throwing short on several passes that could have been game-changers in the second half.

Martin said he did not know whether Daniels’ inaccuracy was a product of the injury.

Although Daniels was not willing to use his age as an excuse, Martin took the opportunity to add perspective.

“I told him to keep his head up,” Martin said. “He should be in high school still and not on the road playing Stanford.”

Coach Clay Helton said Sunday night that Daniels had an MRI exam on the hand, which showed the injury was only a bruise.

Helton said Daniels’ hand was sore Sunday but the coach was optimistic about the quarterback’s availability for Texas.

Isaiah Pola-Mao to miss Texas

Helton said USC will be without starting strong safety Isaiah Pola-Mao against Texas and possibly longer. Pola-Mao dislocated a shoulder in the first half against Stanford.

Ingram is a big loss vs. USC. Best RB on the team.

Daniels update from LA Times:
USC coach Clay Helton said Tuesday that JT Daniels is progressing well after sustaining a bruise to his right (throwing) hand during Saturday's 17-3 loss to Stanford.
"It's doing good," Helton said. "We actually threw a little bit yesterday, just to see grip-wise and pain-wise where it's at, and he felt really good. He lifted this morning. He was functional yesterday. We've got a full-pad practice today. We'll let you know more after practice. He was spinning it really good yesterday."

GT updates. TaQuon Marshall sounds like he will go despite some kind of hyperextended big toe injury suffered last week:

For Saturday’s ACC opener at Pittsburgh, “I’ll come out and be even better than I was last week,” Marshall said.

Earlier Tuesday, coach Paul Johnson said there would not be a specific plan to put Oliver in the game. Against USF, Oliver was in four two full possessions and parts of two more and led the Jackets to three touchdowns.

“If we need Tobias, I’m confident that he can go in and play and run the game plan and do what we do,” Johnson said. “But I’m not going to go into a game plan just to play a guy.”

Georgia Tech center Kenny Cooper will play Saturday at Pittsburgh in the ACC opener, coach Paul Johnson said Wednesday following practice. His playing time may be limited behind center Jahaziel Lee, who has moved into the position since Cooper’s foot injury near the end of spring practice.

“We’ll just play it by feel, but he’s going to travel and play for sure,” Johnson said.

Cooper’s return figures to be a help for the Jackets, as he was an effective linemen for the Jackets last year in his first season as a starter.
