Home Run Derby Discussion Thread and In-Game

KJ - Alonso has the most homers in the majors since 2019, I believe. That’s gotta count for something!
Only thing I know about the Mets is I don't know shit about them

Ironically outside of Doc, Straw, Keith Hernandez, Kevin Elster...I don't know a damn thing about them other than Pete Alonso and home run derby lol

Went to g1 of the WS in KC in 2015 and couldn't tell you who even started for that team, pretty sure he got rocked

Got a couple hours to research, doing a couple things right now but need to see how humidity affects fly balls there

Looks fairly mild in the forecast

Still favor Vlad in things like this, like his pops he'll just go HAM win or lose

Obv money is on the long driver

As for this contest Vlad would be the only way I can play it, doubt I'll watch unless there is absolutely nothing else on which is possible.

Miss the old 10 outs format, was so much more entertaining

Probably the worst park in the league for HRs, I'm so far out of the loop on weather trends but it definitely can matter in this case
Yeah I looked. There's absolutely nothing else on tonight.

I'm watching the WSOP on youtube lol
That's not terrible. Whenever it comes on the tube, my lady will actually watch it with me. I'll tell her what I would do in that situation, and then she gets all turned on cuz she thinks I'm smart and I should be playing poker for a living hahaha

See these are the stories that need to be published in hard backs

I don't recognize any of these ESPN baseball nerds other than Kirkjian

All I've seen so far is that they seem to be star struck

Summer League is the gamble tonight for us real degens

No summer league lines for USB in NY lol

Pete is obsessed with this competition. Has won 2 of the last 3? He should be lined at no more than say +150 but he does have a tough first round draw.

TMaybe just take the under in 490.5 for longest HR
Non-Coors Field Home Run Derbies in the Statcast era...

1. Aaron Judge, New York Yankees, 2017: 513 feet

2. Aaron Judge, New York Yankees, 2017: 507 feet

3. Aaron Judge, New York Yankees, 2017: 504 feet

4. Aaron Judge, New York Yankees, 2017: 501 feet

T-5. Giancarlo Stanton, Miami Marlins, 2016: 497 feet

Frank Thomas, Josh Hamilton and Jose Abreu are among the other participants to demolish supposed 500-foot homers at the Derby. Here’s where they rank among the farthest in the pre-Statcast era.

1. Sammy Sosa, Chicago Cubs, 2002: 524 feet
2. Sammy Sosa, Chicago Cubs, 2002: 520 feet
3. Frank Thomas, Chicago White Sox, 1994: 519 feet

6. Bobby Abreu, Philadelphia Phillies, 2005: 517 feet
T-7. Mark McGwire, St. Louis Cardinals, 1998: 510 feet

I saw somewhere only 2 home runs have been hit 497+ in the statcast era outside of Coors or hit by Judge. All info helps.

Longest HR in last years derby was 482

Not only is T-Mobile a below-average homer park, but it’s also just hard to hit home runs that far anywhere outside of Denver.
The longest home run we have seen this season is 461 feet (by Rutschman).
And do you want to know the longest home runs in this contest in each of the last three derbies, not counting the ones in the thin air of Coors Field in 2021?
Juan Soto whacked one 482 feet at a much more hitter-friendly Dodger Stadium last year,
Vladdy hit one 476 in 2019 at Progressive Field in Cleveland,
and the longest at Nationals Park in 2018 was 473 feet.

You gotta admit with that and playing in NY he is really not talked bout all that much outside the hr derby. Maybe cause they always talking bout Mets spending so much money and not doing shit? Seems like he should be a bigger name. I’d bet he not even close to top 10 in jersey sales.

I really didn’t see any other way to go than play Alonso. I got no clue what the true odds should be? Vlad was very close to beating him one the years he won, Rodriguez did beat him last year so I don’t think +150 be accurate at all, 3-1 seems bout right since I feel like any one those 3 could win. I guess that means Rodriguez has the best value but not sure being at home a good thing? Just pick a guy and go with it, I’d rather play longer odds but it feels like wasting money with those 3 at the top,

Seems like they’re going to wear each other out IMO. Who knows. I want chaos

I didn’t even realize they were facing off in 1st round (shows how much I cap this, lol). I swear some retards on radio were calling garcia/Arozarena best round 1 matchup, I mean that interesting and all (painful if you a cards fan), but that matchup ain’t shit compared to last years finalist!

He will have biggest

Just meant vladdy will a bit as well, tons of people from bc travel down when Jay's play the mariners and likely a lot did for this or all star game too

Gotcha. I just hope Arozarena loses quick cause I told myself all week I was gonna take him but when I saw field I chickened out, if he wins I’ll be sick. Only reason I wanted to play him cause dude a bright light type of dude, realistically I don’t think he can hang w top 3. Julio v pete in round one does make things little more open I suppose.

If you were actually betting this to make money vlad over mookie in round 1 gotta be a way bigger lock than -235 indicates, don’t it?

Im kinda kicking myself I didn’t just unload on vlad round 1, lol. He has to pull a hammy to lose

So vlad on same side as Pete and Julio? Maybe garcia or Arozarena could pull this shit off, way easier path for sure.

This is a sobering day

Not only don't I know half of the Derby participants but have no clue who even sang the Anthem either. Old. AF.

The 10 out format was better cause they actually followed each ball, now they tryiimg to swing so fast you can’t even take in how hard each is hit.

That said I'll go to a playoff game if offered bank, lots of work to go to games but the local Caesars book is just outside the entrance to the park

Even with cardinals making a late push to get these assholes to legalize they still didn’t do it. Cards realize long as Mo gm they gonna need gambling to help draw cause the product is shit!

Im sure they still drawing cause all the red necks from all around Midwest come to see cards but Mfers like me ain’t going to games while they playing like this!

For me round trip Uber/Lyft is $80 with tip which I'd have to do if doing it right. Usually can negotiate a room rate downtown to around $100 so it's better to just do that really. Tickets aren't ever something I think about, beer and booze is.

I can always get Free tix if I want them, maybe not playoffs but no chance they make those the next few years! I’ve drove many a time I probably shouldn’t have, but I used to have a free parking place, I’ll be damned if I pay 30 bucks to park! Can always get a room comped at casino too, bring in a Gatorade full of vodka and booze price goes way down (I dunno bout ya’ll park but we can bring drinks in, obviously not booze but vodka in Gatorade bottles works well). All that and I still ain’t going and sitting in the heat to watch the current shit show!
