A study in extremes, the Mets last 31 games of almost all-or-nothing offense in the normal 9 regulation inns -

7, 1, 3, 2, 0, 8, 15, 0, 2, 3, 1, 7, 7, 11, 2, 9, 2, 10, 7, 5, 7, 2, 3, 7, 10, 2, 2, 7, 6, 6 & 3 run totals.

15 totals of 0-3 runs.
_1 total of 4-5 runs.
15 totals of 6+ runs.

Thinking under 8.5 in Col/Cincy game. 2 quality starting pitchers in Cook and Volquez going at it and it's not in Colorado. Any thoughts?

I dont like low totals @ GAB probably better if it was @ Coors. Last 2 games in the series at Cincy were 8.5 totals and saw 16 and 12 runs . Like Volzquez more vs teams that havent seen him but he has been far from dominant in his past 5 outings with the exception of Milw . Cook has some trouble vs Cincy as well. Might look more @ Cincy then a total ...just 1st glimpse ...check in tmrw if I can..

8 an d8.5 totals in Cincy :

4-6 over in 2008 and 14-7 Over since 2006 (10-1 before this year)

Vazquyez 6-2 over at home while Cook is 7-4 Under away..

Leans
Rockies ML-The word is getting out on Mr. Volquez. It's almost never a good idea to take the Rockies on the road, but this park is an exception, especially with Cook pitching.

Brewers RL- A very good team playing with a lot of confidence facing what they like to hit at home(lefties)

fuck you to the brewers.

salomon torres will also never k the side to end a game, ever again.

had the over 8 and STL ml tonight. fuck you screw crew you middled the shit out of me with that 9th innning jack

dodgers RL looks tasty as well as bills has been pitching well and lanny never seems to get any run support.

and if its close i can guarantee you the nats pen will find a way to shit the bed. fading the nats on this west coast road trip is going to be pricy, but profitable. wouldnt be surprised to see them get swept again.

i want to fade dumpster, but know nothing about this johnson guy? anyone shed some light here?

1. Brewers over looks great. Both teams feast on left handed pitching and the roof should be open.

2. Like the Mets to continue the downslide of the Cards at home especially with Pelfrey vs. Boggs

3. Haren looks cheap. Giants are better on road then at home. Under may be solid here too...

4. Saunders may be cheap considering how Angels crush LH pitching

Josh Johnson has put together some decent starts after coming off the DL. Keep in mind he was a Marlin, even though that was back in his Dumpster days. Marlins bats looked better tonight but they couldn't drive any runners in. Think they are worth a shot tomorrow

To follow up on Saunders - he's from Falls Church, VA (about an hour from Baltimore) and likely will be pitching in front of family, friends, etc. Not that it makes Anaheim an autoplay, but certainly he will be "up" for this game. I don't like Burress at all, and am close to pulling the trigger on the Angels and possibly the OVER......

I debated Saunders with SportsNut a few weeks ago, and he made some great points about Saunders being a bit overrated/valued. As Nut put it, "he's simply a decent pitcher on a good team." While I agree with Nut (and will be looking for times to go against Saunders in the second half), this may not be the time....

Strong lean Angels
medium lean - OVER

An 8.0 at Fenway? Boston's lowest home totals this season...

Beckett vs Shields (8.0) - Boston won 12-4/Over
Dice-K vs Bannister (8.5) - Boston won 11-8/Over
Beckett vs Harden (8.0) - Arizona won 2-1/Under

The only Under is....
- the only IL game

- the only game that had Boston playing off an extra innings (13) game the night before.

- the only game not to feature David Ortiz in the lineup (expected back for Friday's game).

saunders is from NOVA???

wtf i never knew that

and i just looked, and i see he went to WEST SPRINGFIELD

thats where im zoned to school at, but i chose lake braddock instead because they were basically same distance.

fucking weird.

I've bet 2 Joba totals and won both. He's my friend.

But my previous post isn't an advocation for Over, only a notation - I've more digging to do yet. Such total lines really don't belong at Fenway.

dude i live and know like a dozen people that went to that fuckin lake braddock high school..

and if i recall the point was "the angels happen to win everytime saunders pitches" .. last game i went to in balti was burres vs the pirates and he got worked in the 4th and 5th.... lean both Angels and OVER myself..

I'm looking at that too.

Other considerations:

Toronto UNDER 9 at +100
Jays -155
Dodgers at -182
KC at even money
And isn't Livan worth a shot at +190?? Aside from starting pitching, Minny is the much better team here.

I just took three units on LAA at -132. This will go up I'm sure....

G'night fellas. I'm travelling most of the day tomorrow and won't be around. Cash some tickets for me.

Playing Detroit. Almost the only pitcher playing well for the Sox is Mark. Floyd is 3-7 last 10 on the road. In their last 4 series facing Texas and KC the WS gave up 81 runs in 12 games and won 6 of those games. I am aware of Floyd's history vs Detroit. I think Detroit is aware too. They recently paid off KC. I think they remember the 7-0 with Verlander and Floyd.
Verlander has won 6 in a row and in his last 13 starts has 9 quality starts and 4 very reasonable ones. I consider him the staff ace now and see this as a low spread.
And when I went to bet it if Verlander had been starting I would have bet it. With Robertson I will have to go back to the drawing board.

Careful with the Toronto under.

Jays bats have been heating up, and Batista has been pitching like dogshit recently.

Parrish is nothing special, while Seattle has very good numbers vs him and lefty's in general.

Finally the weather is gonna be nice tomorrow, and the roof should be open.

Anybody know if David Ortiz is playing tomorrow? He was scheduled last I heard to return for this series with the Yanks.

This is the breakdown of Burres by days rest . He goes on normal rest here which is obviously scary . Even the 1 loss on extra rest is kinda misleading because it was his last one and the AS Break kind of creates chaos as in anything can happen for any player . You just dont know how to weigh the break for each player . So I tend to not pay much attention to the 1st start for SP. Another glitch is the fact few of his home starts came on normal rest and the few that did saw him face NYY in back2back starts . Most of his recent starts have been decent.

Personally I feel LAA is ready to breakout vs LHP and well they busted Laffey's ass the other day . I just hate the fact LAA is coming all the way EAST and the 1st game is just a huge question mark after travel.

Lots of trends to think about here .

Balt 11-4 on FRI compared to 8-8 for LAA. Balt is 22-11 in Series Openers (14-10 after a Loss ) while LAA is 17-16 (11-10 after a win)

LAA 18-6 vs LHSP but 17-5-2 UNDER while Balt is 10-16 but 18-6 OVER.

LAA is 8-2 laying between -125 and -150 away and 12-2 Away witha 9 or 9.5 total

LAA only 4-6 after a day off . Only 23-21 vs losing teams.

LAA 14-6 L20 meetings and BALT has not won consecutive games in that stretch but did win the last game of 07 and 1st meeting of 08 .

Whats tricky is Balt very good in series openers , LAA very good in Game 2s and we know Balt struggles on Sunday and Game 3s.

After this Balt has Liz vs Garland then Olson vs Ervin Santana. Now Garland pretty solid vs balt in the past and was real good vs them in LAA . If you look at his season since April ended 12 of 14 starts he allowed 3 earned runs or less . Of those 12 times he failed to go 6 or more in just 1 start . So he has been pretty quality of late as he has 11 of his last 14 starts allowing 3 earned or less which 1 of those he allowed 4 runs but 2 earned . Liz has won 6 of 9 starts but is Daniel Cabrera Jr IMO and only 2 starts did he go 6 innings so the pen if called upon Friday and it should be for 2 or 3 innings might be dead after 2 games on Thursday and alot of use post break.

I dont want to knock Saunders I just dont think his stuff outstanding but hell neither is Mike Mussina's. Saunders is clearly better but they both throw strikes and put consistent efforts together coupled with a good pen tends to keep them in position to win . Plus the AL West kinda sucks . Saunders has been very good on the road and at night . While he is quality I just dont view him as shutdown type SP who on any give n day could allow 2 runs or less in 7 innings .

Saunders has not done well past 2 starts vs Balt and well considering Balt struggles the fact Burres has 2 wins vs them and quality stats is impressive.

Balt 5-0 L5 Friday starts vs Burres but also 3-13 L16 on normal rest for him.

As much as the stuff points to Over and LAA I actually like Balt here and under somewhat . This game is IMO the O's best chance to win a game because of Burres past success and the chance Saunders delivers a less then quality start here . Also LAA recently on the road vs LHSP-

W4-1 vs Eveland but had Ervin " Oakland A's master" Santana dealing
L3-2 vs Matt Harrison
W3-2 vs Cole Hamels
W 5-3 vs G.Smith {PUSH}
W5-4 vs Bedard {OVER}
W4-2 vs Washburn
W2-0 vs Danks
L2-0 vs Kazmir
W 4-3 vs Robertson
W 6-4 vs Lester

8-2 record but 1-8-1 UNDER ( Three 1 runs , Four 2 run wins , One three run win) . In 10 games just 5 runs or more 3 games and insane as it is never allowed more then 4 runs. Doubt any SP roughed up badly in that 10 game sample.

If Burres can give 6 quality innings 3 runs or less they have Bradford , Johnson and Sherrill available.

Probably should have opened this game about -150 so the fact they opened it way short might be a nice indicator of them wanting LAA money. Lets face LAA played fairly bad the CLE series . If CLE had any sort of pitching on Wed they probably win except Laffey was tattooed and Wedge did a dumb thing . After allowing Laffey to start the 5th inn when Cle again recaptured the lead up 6-4 after the LAA battered him in the 4th he I believe IBB a hitter with 2nd and 3rd no out in the b5th to load the bases ? Why woudl anyone do that . Not sure exactly what happened but I did have CLE 1st 5 inn and remember thinking at the time I just lost my bet when he IBB teh hitter and brought in Mastny of all pitchers .

Balt will happy to see a LHP after watching Burnett and Halladay deal. As good as LAA is at the end of the game not really into there middle relief so if they can get Suanders in some trouble its a huge plus because I dont want to have to come back on the LAA pen.

Okay now I am done. GL all:cheers:

Twins really arent much better then Cle IMO. Not big on fading teams who get swept but Cle played solid ball out West while Twins are not hitting and outside of 1 inning vs Lee have barely touched him in 2008 . Price is kinda high but Twins just 4-10 away vs LHSP (10-4 at home) and most of those losses were beatdowns as just 3 were 1 run losses. Also a nice 11-3 over vs LHSP away

W12-5 @ WSox
L6-5
L11-2
W13-1 @ Wsox
L6-2
L6-2
L19-3
L11-2
L7-5
L1-0
L12-2
L6-5
W7-6 @ Det
W6-5 @Det

Pretty insane just twice in 14 games vs LHSP did they allow LESS then 5 runs . So you have to ask can they score 5 or better vs LEE and hard to believe they can. Lee 19 starts and 16 of them 4 runs or less allowed when he started think 13 with 3 or less runs allowed.

Crazy part is Lee has just 7 of 19 starts at home and only once did he allow 3 runs . He allowed just 9 runs all earned in 50 home innings with 9bb to 48Ks. Livan has 7.50 road ERA and Twins allow 7.44 runs away in his starts ompared to 2.57 for CLE when Lee starts at home.

Livan won 4 of 9 away starts and of the 5 losses only COL was respectable at 3-2 . Other starts that Minny lost were 10-0 , 12- 2,11-2 and 18-5 when he was away and the last 3 were his most current away starts. His last 4 road starts :

17.1 INN 44Hits allowed 28 Runs / 26 Earned 1bb 7Ks

Even crazier is Lee has won 5 of 7 at home but his losses where by the PEN in extra innings when they allowed 3 runs in a 0-0 game and 5 runs in a 3-3 game both times in the 10th inning ......

Cle 3 wins vs Minny this year are when they started a LHP and Minny just did sweep Cle .

Hard to see what Minny's edge would to be . Thought -220 is about fair price and probably anything cheaper then -300 is undervalued . Fairly comfortable laying -1.5 here .....

Twins 10-1 after a day off L11 times and Twins 0-5 after a day off L5 .....

Lee did allow 11 hits @ Sea but 7 came in the last 3 innings and he didntthrow ball 3 to a better till that 7th but also allowed 4 IF hits that game. Livan on extra rest here .277BAA compared to366 on normal rest so that is sort of plus byut still .377 away both his KC and his OAK starts were on the 6th day like todays ...he won all three but medicore work at best .

If Lee can go 7 or better then Kobayshi has been very good at home 0.98 ERA in 27.2 innings allowing 3 earned and 4 runs.

Okay thats definetly all......BOL:cheers:

Great info as always Nut. You've talked me off the OVER with those numbers vs. LHP for the Halos, but I'm still talking their side. The Friday stats don't hold much water in my book. And I watch this team on a regular basis and can tell you that with runners on base Burress will struggle big time. Don't think Scoscia doesn't know this and will be trying to rattle this kid the whole game.

Hell, if I can get 5 - 6 innings out of Saunders and 3-4 ER, I'm OK with that. LAA's pen skates circles around everyone in Baltimore except Johnson. I'm not a Sherril fan at all and the rest of em are just trash.

Good luck today - I'll pull for that UNDER for ya!

Something you might consider. The Angels are starting a 3 team road trip. They are visiting Baltimore, Boston and Yankees. They started the season losing the first game of their first 3 road trips. They have won the first game of the starts of their last 5 road trips. It seems to me very likely they try and start strong here.
Oh, on Friday Stats try Saunders 8-2 lifetime on Friday.

I'm leaning OAK 8.5 UNDER...

OAK is 36-56 O/Us this year...
offensively challenged..good pen w/ Casilla now healthy..
Gallagher has been a beast in his HOME starts during '08

Padilla pitched really well in Metrodome last outing..hit 93-94 consistently,
only worries is Texas vs. RHP, but consolation is they don't hit as
well on road then at home, ..and of course Texas pen, but at least Eddie & Wilson will have some rest.

fwiw, reverse lines moves (per Sports Insights)

fla-cubs - 76% on the cubs. Its moved down from -182 to -166

tampa-kc - 74% on the rays. moved down from -114 to -104

75% on cinci and that line moved down 2 cents and 82% on milwaukee that line moved down 4 cents. so very small reverse moves for these two games.

Thanks SC . Not sure exactly what I am playing or how I am playing it yet . Was just doing my usual thinking outloud .

I understand why day of the week trends are tough to rely on but like anything else sometimes things develop for reasons we cant explain . Like Balt is 22-11 in Series Opener and 8-21 in Game 3's. If I am going to incorporate the fact Balt is 1-15 on Sundays then I have to acknowledge being 11-4 on Fridays (6-1 at home) means something . Especially when I look at the rest of the series and dont like Liz or Olson going the next 2 days . LAA is 8-8 on Fridays (4-4 away) and 6-2 UNDER . The have 3 straight overs on FRI but also are 7-0-1 Over at home on Friday and 13-6-1 UNDER L20 FRI games . If BALT doesnt win today then they run the risk of being swept . Looking at both teams since the break not sure LAA is playing that much better then Balt but good teams find ways to win and vice versa. They beat Bucholz has ZERO career road wins and think his recent start @ Sea was the 1st time Boston won one of his road starts . They rallied late in the other 2 vs Boston who failed to shut the door . They lost to Byrd , they edged Matt Ginter 3-2 and they won 14-11 vs Laffey thanks to more to CLE pitching then anything else as they held a 6-4 lead to end the 5th vs LAckey ....

There runs scored on FRIDAY away games are 2, 0, 7 ,3, 3, 0 , 4 ,5 this year in the contests and L3 games of 2007 in this situation they scored 3,2,3 .

So thats 24 Runs scored in 8 away FRI games or 3 per and L11 ( L3 of 2007)its 32 runs and slightily below 3 per .

Balt is 5-0 in Burres L5 Friday starts including 3-0 this year .

Saunders has lost the past 2 away starts as Road chalk to Texas and LAD . Making him 2-2 as road chalk with 5-4 wins @ Sea and 1-0 @ Miny back in April .

Also in any sport I tend to like to fade TEAMS in this case a SP who were Home dogs and won then next game or start are road chalk . Sort of how can you be a UNDERDOG at home then be Favored on the Road mentality and use that in the NFL as well. Sort of extremes when 1 day your so inferior to a team that even with home field factored in you are worth less then your oppponent and the next time even with home field factored in you are suddenly worth that much more then your opponent ?

Saunders had just 1 K vs Boston which is not a good sign neither is the fact he just 4 Ks but 26 hits allowed in 16 innings vs Balt. Plus the fact he just had a baby and is returning to his hometown area would think abit chaotic for the guy. In 3 starts BALT is batting 382 vs him. Non strikeout pitchers with low strikeout totals are more worrisome then strikeout pitchers with low K totals.

Burress is far from a stud but if Matt Harrison can keep this team baffled or even a Jarrod Washburn then Burres chances are realistic especially seeing he has done in twice before in 2007(12.2 inn 8 hits and .186BAA) . Really Burress has been solid in his recent outings . Take out the beatdowns Burres took vs NYY and Boston at home which he won both times at there place his ERA is 4.00 athome 21 runs in 47 innings ...The big inning of late for Burres has been the 6th inning and thats when Balt needs to be ready to make a change to Bradford who has an excellent 2.35 ERA /1.15 WHIP vs LAA.

Burres vs DET 1-1 game after 5 innings just 3 hits. In the 6th allows 3 hits 2runs and gets just 1 out before being pulled .

@ Boston 3 runs , 6hits in 6.1 inn which is solid to me considering opponent and location.

vs Texas was shaky allowing 9 hits in 5.2 inn(1 walk) BUT he allowed a 2 out double to Duran in the 6th inning and was pulled . Cormier comes in with a 3-2 lead to face Kinsler who then HRs . So he could have won that start or at least left allowing 2 runs in 5.2 inn if the pen did its job. Which I have more faithin Bradford or Jim Johnson then Lance Cormier , alot more .

vs KC left with a 5-1 lead after 5 innings becase of his 95 pitches but probably should have given him the 6h inning looking at the relievers who followed . Anyway 1 run and 5 hits in 5 inn.

vs Houston again somewhat shaky but same deal. 7 hits in 5.2 innings and 3 runs which again a solo Hr in the 6th and eventually 2 out walk got him pulled . Still Balt lead and won.

So thats his last 5 starts all pretty solid offenses with KC being the softest and they have done well offensively of late when facing a LHSP.

So thats 4-0-1 forBurres after 5 INNINGS the past five starts he made. Granted none were on normal rest where he lost 13 of his last 16 starts .

For Balt to win the pen and trio of Bradford , Johnson and Sherrill are going to have do there job . Which probably means 3 maybe even 4 innings or near flawless baseball . Burress is going to have to keep LAA to 2 runs maybe 3 in 5+ or 6 innings.

Not trying to convince anyone of anything simply sharing my thought process.

Looking at UNDER especially at 9.5 , Balt ML , +1.5 RL and 1st 5 ML ......

I understand the point about LAA exceling when it gets MOB and Burres being in a position where he tends to struggle with that but again thats the key to success is limiting those unfavorable situations. Which I dont think is a stretch looking at LAA 10 away games vs LHP and Burress 2 career starts vs them.

Based on overall play would think -140 or -150 was where this game would open but really looking at the way it should play it the true line IMO is closer to a PK'em .

GL all .......

Played Rays ML ....R/Sox ML.........I think the Rays see Boston creeping on them and get the win today over Bannister who has pitched both good and horrible in 2 starts vs the Rays....The games kinda a toss up but Rays have way more on the line

Adding Detroit, and Toronto under 9.5 to Anaheim. Detroit seems almost as popular as a Batista under.

Playing on the Mariners seems like suicide. Do the Jays deserve to be -150 or higher with Parrish on the mound? I really don't think they do. Parrish's last 2 starts @TB & vs Bal- 10ip, 10 hits, 7er, 4 walks & 179 pitches. The Mariners are god awful, but hit .282 vs lefties (.255 overall). M's batters vs lefties

Beltre .356

Lopez .327

Ibanez .312

Bloomquist .352

Seattle is 4-2 vs Toronto this season, winning 2 of 3 @Tor. Just 1 game over 6 runs scored....

Seattle+149/u9.5+100 1 unit to win 3.98. Very tempting to me.

Lexington: IMO safer play in the seatt/tor game is the OVER, Parrish is very hittable & Batista is one of mlb's worst starters.

No interest in the over there cashflow. To me it looks like one of those "easy" plays that lose. Took a shot with the Mariners+151. If they lose so be it, but I just don't think the line is justified.

un mother fucking believable

last night- ryan franklin.....

tonight it was fucking kobayashi

all i palyed tonight was clev RL, 5-2 going into the 9th and at this point i could give a fuck less at 5-4

fucking piece of shit closers. cliffy gives up 2 in 8 and pitched well, and then these fuckjob piece of shit closers shit the bed

i can not seem to dodge the fucknig minefields right now

time to pack it in till football

one play, one screwjob.

dont feel bad... at least the teams you bet are in the games. I had the orioles...lol

Any thoughts on the late games? I like Gallagher at home since he is a flyball pitcher and texas is handy via longball. I see that as a difficulty in a pitcher's park with cool weather..

Sanchez under rated here against haren. Giants bats are warmed up from the horrible nats.. If they can get 3 off of danny, it could spell troub

I feel your pain Cap- had the RL as well :whip:

Looking more & more into the Rangers/A's matchup.

Padilla's record is a bit better than I think it should be. Whip upwards of 1.40, era well over 4, yet an 11-5 record. The interesting thing is that in his 5 losses the MOV has been 2+ runs. All 5 losses also resulted in 12+ run totals.

Gallagher's 5 home starts have all been 2+ run wins, 3 of which were 10+ run totals.

A's-105/ o8 parlay 1 to win 2.72. A's-1.5+180. Think I'll play both :smiley_acbe:

As A Long Time A's Fan, Going With Texas, They Play The A's Well, And Can Score At Will...And Their Bullpen Can Give Up At Will, So Over 8.

Giants Line Seems Strange For Some Reason To Me...Look For Either Haren Or Sanchez to have a poor game, or either poor bullpen to help this OVER 6.5.

Washington needs to score more but has a hot pitcher on the mound, take a shot on the BIG road dog, with the hot pitcher...:shake:
