Only Ump we will know for sure is KC/BAL.
 
Might look at Cubbies early....Haren hasnt looked anywhere near the same on the road as he has at Chase(granted just 2 starts but not exactly great lineups LAD and Cincy) . His splits suggest that he prefers facing LHP which is odd for a RHP but

Last few times I have faded Chicago its because they faced POWER RHP like Cueto and Volquez who really are sharpest against RHB but here thats not the case with Haren. Mix in the fact Cubs had Thursday off to travel and get some rest is probably a bonus comapred to Zona having to play mid afternoon vs Philly which probably means they arrive late Thursday in Chicago..and have to turn and play at 2 PM...end of the world for Zona clearly not maybe a minor plus for the Cubbies....but also a tough way to leave home after a 10 game homestand..

Haren has shown to be better in day games in recent years however not sure how to weigh that since I am sure he had alot of day starts as an Oakland A's . What does hold up is that RHB were 34 pts higher vs him then LHB and he allowed 15 Hrs to RH compared to 9 for LHB . Also his BAA on the road was 33 pts higher then at home and his ERA about a 0.50 run higher on the road then at home...in 2006 RHB were 22 pts higher then LHB and on the road BAA went up 25 pts and ERA 0.69 higher.....Haren prior to this year has always been tougher on normal rest but so far that hasnt held up but such a sample to make much out of ....

His 6 day rest starts were @ home vs SD and NYM...So two of his 5 day starts were on the road ..so the good numbers on normal rest came at home vs COL and Houston. So is it the situation home vs away or 5days vs 6 days rest ? Seems like the simple factor is he has been best in Zona so far and whether he gets 5 or 6 days doesnt matter although it clearly seemed to matter in the past with much better normal rest splits.

With Lilly the DBacks once great @ 8-1 vs LHP have now lost consecutive games vs LHSP in Johan Santana and Jamie Moyer talk about different contrasts..even before that they were slipping winning 2 of 3 facing Wolf (twice and both times against Unit) and Zito ...scored were 5-1 win , 5-4 win and 9-4 loss..so the offensive prodcution was slipping already..just 2-3 last 5 vs LH SP...after that 6-0 start vs LHP which I question as being 6-0 cause they lost @ SFG vs Sanchez in Units season debut 5-4 I think. Gotta look into this ...Anyway in SF defeat Zito 4-1 and lose to Sanchez 5-4 . Do have them as 5-1 prior to that but almost a joke since they faced Redman , Francis and Morales in Colorado. I say its a joke because Redman is clearly not a SP at the ML anymore especially if he has to face 7 or so RHB , Morales is a youngster with alotof talent but 1st time he is starting the season in the majors , and Francis really struggled out of the gate something I even mentioned when I was backing him starting vs STL the other day. Francis pitching in the STL series was down 3 or 4-0 before the RAIN came to save him and cancel the game , then with his less the good stuff he faced off vs Zona twice and lost both , slowly he started to get his act together but still he wasnt very good vs STL the other night barely lasting 5 innings I believe down 3-0 . My point is he isnt pitching like he did in 2007 and not even close to be honest. So that was a 3 game sweep in COL and remember the Rocks bats were slumping real bad first 2 weeks . Then they host COL and get the youngster Morales on the road and Francis again. So do we see maybe why the have such a nice record vs LHSP so far ? Nothing but medicore arms against them...and I guess they are actually 8-4 vs LH SP....again gotta verify that ...

So they are 8-2 vs LHSP in there division ??? This is Chicago not the WEST so I have to weigh this as I think there is something to there success...as the NL West always seems to be one of the weaker divsions though the AL West is taking that mantle so far...vs COL LHSP 8 , 7 , 5 , 8 ,10 while allowing 1 ,2,2,2,3 or 10 runs in 5 games. They scored 4 both games in SF W4-1 vs Zito & lose 4-5 vs Sanchez , lose 4-9 vs Unit and win 5-4 vs Zito at home , win 5-1 in the rematch @ SD for Wolf vs Unit , lost to 5-2 to Santana at home and lost 4-11 at home vs Moyer.....so last 7 meetings vs a LH SP they appear to be 3-4 beating Zito twice and offensively have prodcued 5 , 5, 4 , 4 , 4 , 4 , 2...

So was it the fact the merely faced a struggling Colorado team who they not only outhit but also outpitched??

Lilly is going on 6 days rest pitching on Saturday but is concerned with his lack of velocity which is then a concern for me. Granted he does say he should be able to go out and win games with his present stuff it doesnt sound like he is the Ted Lilly of 2007 yet.

Last year he was excellent in day starts especially and not suprisingly at home. Think he allowed a 202 BAA last year in day games. Now Lilly has actually preferred to pitch on normal rest in his career struggling when he gets that extra day but I am wondering if the fact he is struggling with velocity now if an extra day helps him some. His last start was on 6 days and was fine probably allowing most of the damage due to pitching with a comfortable lead as CHI got 6 in the fourth and Lilly allowed a bunch of solo Hrs....

In his career Lilly has not had success really vs Zona but its a tiny sample. Late August he throw a damn good game @ Chase going 6 inn 2 runs 4hits 1 Hr 0bb 8Ks. With Conor Jackson doing the damage and Zona finished pretty strong at home winning 12 of 17 from that game till the end of the year....He faced the same lineup he should on Friday with the exception of the exact batting order and Reynolds was out in favor of Cirillo huge difference in type of hitter . Then in the opening round of the playoffs in which Cubbies were swept he again squared off @ Zona vs Davis this time with Reynolds starting . This time he was off his game and hit pretty hard and looking back I think situation plays into it . No one expected Zona to beat Chicago let alone sweep them and thats how the games were priced...he was even money in August losing 3-1 and probably close to -140 in the playoffs on the road...same venue and same opposing SP...

So hard to believe Cubbies dont want some revenge here and in this series which might make a Cubbies series play worth it since they wont face Webb. What also helps Chicago here is as Tuck would probably mention is Haren had no part in the playoff series last year so he may not be as emotional invested as everyone else and certainly not the guy who got shelled in Game 2 in Ted Lilly. Its been a long time since Danny Haren was a STL Cardinal but that was his only experience @ Wrigley and he lost both times whil ethe last one was ugly , 10 runs in 3.2 innings whil etheother was okay 5 inn 2 runs 6 hits way back in 2003...

Also the cubs have hit 315 (396 OPB)so far at home while Zona has hit 235(310 OBP) on the road . Also Zona 262 in day games vs Chi 279 . As I have pointed out Cubs have really taken advantage of 3 things at home well 4 : injured SP such as Oswalt and Sheets recently , windy conditions which they often managed 10 + runs , Pirate pitching especially its LH SP , and tired over worked bullpens like that of Pitt , Milw , and NYM...So while the Chi numbers are fantastic I caution they arent as good as they appear but Zona might be as bad or worse then they look considering they have played @ CIncy , SD , SFG and COl....

One bummer is ARI in game 1's are 8-4 but have dropped the last few while CHi is 5-7 but have also dropped the last few ontop of the first few when they started slowly...basically 3-1 last four opening games at home also I pointed out the weird Cubbies pattern L L W which was repeated for 4 straight sequences and 12 games then followed with another L in the last game @ Cincy meaning if it holds up this silliness predicts another L before a win ....crazy if this pattern held up.....big plus for CHI could be if Conor jackson doesnt play again as he was injured on Wed and sat out Thursday also Hudson is still not healthy but Ojeda was a beast in his absence but this wont be played at home and you wonder if the venue change cools him off.

As I mentioned in this NOVEL I like the Cubs for the series and even more when I see the SP matchups. After this the KID MAX faces Dempster which I would think is an edge to Chi with all the hype surrounding Max this will be his 1st road start and then Unit vs Zambrano. Zambrano has been lights out lately and faces a real heavy RH lineup which is even better for him while Unit hasnt been to bad but he struggled vs Houston and Cubbies a similiar RH heavy power lineup and have really hit LHP well so far...thinking that CHI should get 2 of 3 and you should get a nice series price....

Despite Lillys struggles so far just 244 BAA in day games and really turned the corner during his start vs Cincy after struggling early. Last year .202 BAA 0.9 WHIP and 3.02 ERA. If it wasnt for Votto the Line may have looked different as he had all 5 RBIs vs him...and 2 of the 5 hits he allowed in 6 innings...he didint allow a hit 1st time around butgot nicked up for 5 seonc time through but also retired both batters after Votto in both the 4th and 6th...so 25 inn 20 hits 11 run 10 bb 21K in his last 4 starts with at least 6 in each compared to his 1st 3 where he didnt complete 5 in any and logged 12.2 19 h 14 R /Er 4bb 8Ks....

Haren has lost both starts at near even money to slight road chalk vs Lowe in LAD and Arroyo in Cincy although I believe that was on the bullpen. Last year Haren won just 8 of 17 away by that I mean his team won 8 of his 17 away starts..which is extended to 8 of 19 now..and 10 of 19 back in 2006...so 18 of 38 on the road since the start of 2006...

I go to sleep liking CHI for the series and on Friday with the early start....

...i really like Doc Halladay tomorrow at + money against CC who struggled big time earlier in the year. I'm unsure of TOR's bats though, so i'm wondering if an UNDER is the best play on the board for that one. Depends on umpire of course, and I hate unders more than anything in this world because I always seem to find the furry animal with antlers (if you remember the Xavier-UCLA game in particular, or Big Shot Bob hitting a pointless 3 tonight that killed my 2H under in the NO-SA game).

Well if I could offer a reason to be scared of Toronto not only did they play a 13 inning game tonight at home which they had to head to the airport to travel but they lose an hour on top of it. Oh and Halladay is Mr.Consistency and actually better away but for some reason Toronto cannot hit LHP this season....

That 14 is in the AL as in dead last . Probably them and NYY are the two worst team vs LHP in the AL so far and the difference being is Tor has more RHB but we saw how NYY struggled vs him already. I think alot of his struggles vs KC were due to them seeing him twice in 10 days and also the extra rest he got after the Yankee Sat...on 5 days here might be bit crisper..They are 3-5 vs LHP and scored 3.2 runs .

Jays are 1-12 last 13 games @ the jake including 0-6 past 2 seasons. Not to mention Tor is 3-9 in game 1 of series so far. The jays are 146 away vs LHP...granted just one LH SP in Lester to which they lost 1-0...jays have not won a opening game on the road yet...excuse that they won one game 1 on the road as they swept Texas. ..still thye just 1-5 away in game 1s outside of the sweep at Texas they havent looked good away...lost 2 of 3 in Ny to open the season , split a 2 game set in Balt and recently lost 7 of 9 in TB , KC and Boston only winning the last game in the KC and Boston series to avoid sweeps...so 4-10 outside of Texas who was playing terrible at the time...

Clearly I can see why Tor looks attractive but they dont have much going for them outside Halladay.

Plus being that Cle rested Hafner and Martinez is it kinda like a day off especially when compared with a 13 inning game then a flight from Tor to Cle....Also Halladay since the start of 2007 suddenly has more trouble on the road and prefers day starts to night..

Well Tuck loves Hamels and Philly tmrw but I am lukewarm on it. agree with Nut that resting Martinez and Hafner may help the slumped over offense of the tribe. CC has pitched a couple good starts (1-2, 20 innings pitched, 2.21 ERA) with little run support, thinking the bats might wake up at home on friday night.
 
Good stuff SPortNut, trying to figure out that Cubby game this morning.Cubs bats have been pretty cold lately, batting .238 and averaging 3.5 RPG the last 7. If you go back to the L10, the Cubs become a bit more respectable, but that 19 run performance against MIL skews the numbers a bit. I initially was leaning towards Zona, but now am up in the air completely. Zona over the last 7 is hitting .310 with an OPS over .800.

Haren has given up a HR every 7.4 IP on the road over the last 3 years in contrast to 1 every 9.1 at home. I guess that shows the difference in pitching in Oakland and away from Oakland. Pitching in CHI you would think these numbers might be relevant. The wind is coming in though, however that plays into things.
 
Misch has given up 4 dingers in 10 innings. Rollins is back, along w/ Werth, Burrell & Utely who are killing LHP. Phils -1.

My two cents on A's - Rangers..
Smith has been lights out on the road. Texas has not been hitting LHP all that well vs. RHP. A's have hit better on the road lately, and also better vs. RHP. Also A's have a totally fresh pen at their disposal.
 
Hey guys i've been looking around for a while but i've got a hard time finding stats of teams W/L vs right and left handed starting pitchers. For example TB 15-11 vs right handers, 9-13 vs left handers. Anyone know where i can find these stats?

LAA seems like a juicy dog tonight 17-13 vs right handed starters. LAA 12-6 on the road. TB 14-10 vs right handed starters.

Alot of trends pointing at TB tonight but LAA at +155, gotta take them for value?
 
Patternseeker- love that ID bythe way...I am scared of the Yanks vs LHP but the fact that evertyone expets Igawa to blow up here makes me think there is possible some value in him. Expectations are a funny thing , so many times we see athletes with no expectations or nothing to lose excel or do do better so I am conscious of that . Especially since DET is playing terrible baseball lately and one thing with NYY it seems for the most part the better the weather they better they swing and I think there best chance to hit is vs the veteran guys who dont throw hard who they have seen alot. Rogers survived his 1st outing @ the Stadium so I am not real clear on which way to lean here to be honest...not sure exactly what NYY record is vs LHP away thinking somewhere around 3-2 beating Laffey , CC and Blae from what I recall losing to Burress and Sowers I believe but I could be way off just guessing...I do recall something 2-14 1st 16 games last season vs LHP on the road until SEPT when they went 3-0 but check that as well....nice to hear your thoughts and I am sure I will be looking at this game later on...BOL

Big Herm- Here's my thing and its just my opinion with most teams and players what occurs at home vs what occurs away are basically seperate profiles in some instinces almost 2 different players or teams.

Now i say that because Chi as I mentioned was hitting 315 at home compared to much lower away but they also faced exactly the type of SP lately that will trouble them IMO that being power RHP who tend to throw sliders. Plus factor in they also faced good overall SP for the most part think STL was allowing something 2.8 runs at home per game when CHI arrived and then in CIncy they face Cueto , Harang , Volzquez. So I think that BAA is a reflection of the pitching they faced , a reflection of some minor injuries losing Ramirez for awhile ..DeRosa bruning out because of that and sitting a few games...Soriano trying to get back in the groove...long road trip 1st one of the year and 1st one ever for Fukudome...

Big issue with me and alot of teams is the lack of balance muost have bewteen RH and LHB's. We so so many teams that are very RH which makes them very weak IMO vs had throwing RHP with good breaking stuff...which are plentiful in the majors...Yanks are the one team especially with the injuries that ae to LH IMO...

So while Chi hasnt hit I think a return home helps and dont get me wrong I mentioned how skewed there numbers were at home because how the beat up on the Pirate LHP , how many teams the Wrigley wind seemed to blowing out , plus facing two quality SP like Oswalt and Sheets who both probably at like 75-80% when they did and also the bullpens as we have noted have really been disasters at times and clearly opposing pens have struggled @ Wrigley in Pitt , NYM , and some others....so while I dont take that 315 @ Wrigley so seriously I also know they enjoy there home park very much so far....also though I will admit its just NOT a switch players can turn on either like okay we are home to hit better...if they develop bad habits on the long trip they simply just wont disappear due to the friendly park...

Haren as I mentioned is a SP with a clear dropoff in performance when he travels and also has a much tougher time getting RHB out in previous seasons including this one which actually makes him a good matchup for CHI . Then we have the playoff revenge thing and I have to think since CHI was heavily favored they are licking theer chops at ther rematch...think ESPN had some article about Zambrano finally getting his 2nd start vs Zona....

I really like Chi in this series as I think Zambrano gets them game 3 vs Randy Johnson as Cubs have just hit so well vs LHP...and while the difference might not be glaring in games 1 and 2 of the series I prefer Lilly here for the fact its game 1 so really think they want this one bad especially Lilly coming off a playoff loss in conjunction with the fact Haren is actually a good matchup for Cubbies lineup and ARI success vs LHP is sort of fake now that I look at . very hollow 8-4 when you have 6 wins vs Zito , Morales and Francis and a 7th vs Redman plus the 8th vs soft tossing Randy Wolf...which was a rematch...Also as good as Zona record looks away how could they not be 9-5 with a good pitching staff playing @ Cincy , @ SD , @ SFG and @ COL early on when they were really not hitting but then again CoL has dont mcuh last 10-12 games either...the Central has must everyone outside of CIncy playing well...

BOL in how you choose Herm...little concerned about Lilly but he seems to have turned the corner lately and now why in hell he should have opened as a dog..

Ugrath- Most of the times I just use Covers matchups page and count the games vs LHP but also if you use the expanded standings on the sites Tuck mentioned you should find some of that info..GL

Boredlife- Dont disagree that Philly has some big potential vs LHP guess I am a little concerned how quiet there bats have been. SFG really could have won all 3 games in Philly as all were decided late...I am not backing SFG just worried to lay that price when Philly isnt hitting as well as they should and SFG making progress...especially vs LH SP...

Down in Texas I agree that texas has been terrible vs LHSP but they played well @ Seattle which is a place that have struggled at past few seasons. I have been riding Greg Smith alot lately but w/o checking I thought he faced them already last trip but I could be mistaken . So I wonder how he adjusts to seeing a team twice as I dont believe that situation has arisen yet for him. Feldman has pitched well and really I faded him @ OAK which I do think now that Smith opposed him and he really pitched excellent just he was left out there abit to long . Rangers penstretched alittle lately as well...just not trusting enough of Oak to lay road chalk vs a guy who i think is throwing real well in Feldman....BOL
 
Made a wild bet. Looked at Peavy at home last 20 games. 13 were under 6.5. Supposed to be 20% chance of rain and 50-60 degree temp. Wind direction unclear. Peavy on 5 days rest his best. Cook on 4 which is his best. Under was even money.
 
Tuck...I think I like that play said I was leaning that way last night er this morning. What I like is despite COL pen troubles Cook goes deep into games usually into the 7th and 8th innings so that really lessens the pens load. Neither team hitting much although COL did explode yesterday. Have to look at it abit closer still but I can understand it..Helton slumping , Holliday I am hoping struggles with Peavy which leaves Hawpe as the biggest concern. SD just not getting much down with the bats dont see much progress had to fly back from ATL after a stay out EAST....3-2 game??

herm...for me its gonna be Cubs and the CUbs series...I think if Lilly pitches like he as last few starts and Zona swings it like it has past few starts vs LHP then we could see something like 7 inn 3 runs vs Lilly with Marmol and Wood to close and hopefully those would be scoreless innings...so I think there is a good chance ARI doesnt get past 3 runs here...while Haren is struggling he has at least enjoyed day games of late and would thin CHI gets 4 or 5 here...so really think it falls somewhere in the 7-9 range with 7 or 8 being more likely...like a 6 inning 4 run outing vs Haren & tack on another vs the pen...not really seeing an over here...especially if this has a playoff type to feel to it....:cheers:

So quite the difference IMO and Lilly IMO is around the Santana - Sanchez talent level which I expect they did less vs...this group 4-19 vs Santana with Snyder going 2-3 and 4-15 vs Sanchez so 8-34 .235

Also 8 hrs and 25 rbi in 5 games from todays ARI starting lineup vs COL pitching compared to 3hrs 23 rbi in 7 games vs non-COL LHSP:shake:

I like it somewhat..parlayed Cubs and Under...

Think I had a few comments a few posts back directed @ Big Herm about the total...crappy weather with what appears to be the wind blowing from CF from what I read in the UMP thread. Being that ARI swept CHi last year in the playoffs I think this game will have a playoff feel to it and also Zona eneded it @ Wrigley so even more motivation which I admit very tough to gauge in baseball compared to other sports.

Ari really not hitting as well vs LHP as it appears with as you menttioned Lillys recent turnaround. I think he can do a 7 inn 3 run type game with the pen MArmol and Wood closing it out...Cubs have the minor edges in facing Haren here and while I think they get to him I wouldnt expect him to get rocked or anything . Solid Zona pen as well....Think Haren allows 4 runs in 6 or 7 innings and possible another run by the pen...Really dont see more then 8 but not much wiggle room here but fairly confident we see 7 runs in this game..maybe even 5-2 Cubbies...

Just dont want to getto heavily involved in the 1st game...

ALready have Cubbies ML , Cubbies SERIES -150 , and 3 parlays....Cubs to under and Cubs ML , Pirates ML , and Indians ML....nearly 6 to 1 on the last one think about 5.5 or so...and just tried 10-1 with Cubs , Pirates , Twins and Brewers.....

SportsNut, do you like the under between CLE-TOR? I know the collective bullpens in the MLB can kill and 7.5, but I think with TOR's bats struggling against LHP and Halladay who will probably pitch a CG in either a loss or win, would help us greatly...

Yeah I do there really isnt much I can add from what I said...would expect the winner here to score 4 runs...its just tough with 7.5 and heavy vig..maybe the vig will cheapen up some...plus I like the fact that the Tor game went over yesterday the way it did almost needs to go under here to even out the scales ...3-0 game b9th and goes over 9 runs...thats brutal..but I had the over so wont complain to loud...Jays pen has been real solid although I would check availability...Lewis and Betancourt with Rafeal Perez from the LH side is pretty solid way to end a game as well....so solid pens here....maybe if se 7.5 u-115 I'll bite...BOL

They threw me for a loop and went with Peanut Butter and Jelly today in Chicago....damn DBacks couldnt pass up that Chicago Pizza and ordered a few pies.....I was so lost couldnt find any angles with that......:36_11_6:
 
Cubs win 3-1 . Win 3 units on the ML & 2 units on the ML and under parlay. Good start . Slightily pissed about not playing them -1.5 @ +180 but I pissed away so much dough this week its incredible...no it's ridiculous.....I mean 11-1 (7-1 in MLB) +13 units yesterday excluding the 3 games I was heavy on Mariners Over , Spurs 1st H and Brewers...which I lost every which possible and pissed off 19 units.....the stupidity and lack of patience!

Anyway way very happy went basically as expected. DBacks didnt do much actually had a few chances early but Lilly was great with 7Ks through 4 innings. Finishing up with 3 hits in 7 innings and 10 Ks. Like I said big spot for CHI here and Lilly got payback BIG TIME shutting down the lineup and after an IBB he got the 1st RBI hit for CHI. Haren was real solid till late in the 5th inning as he was crusing till DeRosa doubled but as I said a bunch of these guys had faced Haren in the AL DeRosa , Soriano , Reed Johnson .

Worked out ...very happy as I am in good position for the SERIES play to cash as well with Zambrano on Sunday seeking his revenge and pitching excellent of late.

And my parlays are still live...Pitt and Cle real big for me now......GL be back with some more shit at some point :cheers:

I got sidetracked before in the UMP thread and then had to run out for awhile. Basically stuck to what I said last nite....

Once I saw Edmonds was released today in SD I needed to look at this game closer....

Peavy was not sharp last start and has really racked up a ton of pitches in his starts this seasons. Very key here is that he gets 6 days rest though...

Last 3 at home vs COL 22 inn 12 h 2 runs 7bb 22ks and already 8 shutout innings with no runs and 11 ks this year and LOST 2-1..in fact his last 3 games are 2-1 at home vs COL which he only won once.


peavy was pissed he was pulled in the 6th last time but Black said he simply didnt have and was laboring ...absolutely agree with Black. What I love is Peavy is pissed and he will get his payback vs COL today. SD returns home after a bad trip including a sweep in ATL which alway sputs emphasis on the 1st game home.....also watching a VET like Jim Edmonds get CUT is a huge wakeup call for a team......

really like SD here and also feel this game now sets up as an OVER. Cooks last two starts were rough but he survived with little damage. Now he faces a team he has been exceptional against and so easy to expect an UNDER .....I think Cook gets here and SD does a wakeup dance scoring egt this 5 runs or so......smallish parlay SD-over might even take a small stab with over 6.5...last meting total was 7 with Francis a LH which we know SD doesnt hit well.....:cheers:
 
Well unfortunately cause I felt like an idiot after my Milw post yesterday and the fact I pssed away a ton of dough on them I decided to pass on them except ofr including them in a 4 team parlay...Cubs won , Pirates won , Brewers just pulled it out of there ASS exactly like I explained they would yesterday it just took them a day to get the MEMO , so could Minnesota after blwoing a 5-2 lead please win so I can wash out my MILW loss from yesterday and be happy...pretty please.....

as of now Minny is my only incorrect side of the day.....what a bitch that would be.....
 
Scratch that I forgot I played Wash but there were never a possibility in this parlay it was either Texas or Minny...
