Anybody around want to Discuss Early CFB thoughts?

I appreciate your thoughts. You asked if there were better games to dissect, I jokingly responded with no.

There is a very good chance that this is a bloodbath and I'm shocked by the 12.5. As for VT/Bama, does VT give up 28+ to Bama?

That ODU game is interesting, ODU does what ECU can't stop, which is actually ECU's own offense. The Air-Raid. I don't know if ECU can run the ball well enough to keep ODUs offense off the field. And if ODUs offense is on the field they can put up pts in a hurry.

If ECU can run the ball effectively enough to steal time from the ODU offense & barring any lopsided turnover issues, ECU could cover. The absence of a running game that steals clock and or TO issues in favor of ODU & ECU is in trouble.

why bother with anything other than the over 77 in that game? Seriously ... ODU gonna run a ton of plays and toss it around and they will be trailing the whole game. If they aren't then ECU just does the same thing. Game should fly over any reasonable total that most books are willing to line in a week 1 game, barring weather.

Read an article where the ODU coach said he wants to get his team as many snaps on both sides of the ball early in the year so he can get his team acclimated to slightly faster speed of D1. They were already running a shit ton of plays.

ODU ran an average of 81 plays per game last year. There defense was on the field for an average of 72 plays per game.

ODU actually runs the ball more than people give them credit for, just for the simple fact that they run so many plays.

And yes, I don't see them slowing down the offense at all. Same system, same players, same everything. The difference is higher level of competition, obviously.

The problem I'm having putting my finger on is what to expect out of the defense. The defense up until now has been pathetic. (and likely to be this year). Having said that, there are some question. They completely revamped the defense and brought in a new DC as well as some position coaches.

How much of it is offseason talk? All I've heard and seen is how much tougher the defense is (which played well int he spring game) The JUCO guys seem to be getting a lot of playing time.

If they defense isn't a significant improvment over last year, there is no shot they hold ECu under 40.

If you're going to play the ECU and ODU game, get off the half making it -12. Something I'm in favor of is buying a half-point so I'm working with a whole number. While this will decrease one's overall chance to cover, it will also reduce the chance losing. But one has to think, aren't there better games to disect?

No. I can understand buyin down from 21.5, 14.5, 7.5 and so on but no need to buyin a half point at 12.5. Not worth tha extra juice.

Agreed

I think I like USC more than most. I think people are too down on the QB based on his play vs. UCLA and the windy bowl game vs. Ga Tech. A lot depends on the QB though, but they have the best receiver in country, legit running game, and an improved O-line. Defense switching to a 3-4 could take some adjustments, but they have talent in the 2 deep all around. The have little depth after that though if they run into injuries.

They did lose a starting stud wr, lost Barkley, and like u said d goin from Tampa 2 4-3 to tha 3-4. U really think they have improved from where they ended last year before tha bowl game?

Wr core, RBs, o-line all should be better. Defense, I'm worried about transition, but have talent. Nose tackle is key in 3-4 and they are young there

He will be a full time DE

Has a hard time putting on weight but I'd expect him to play about about 240 this year. At least I hope and hear that.

All is good Dollaz.

I've been thinking a lot about that game and right now have a feeling the Tide will either eek out a 3 or 7 point win or win by 31+. I know that's not any help but down here they have a DAILY show that deals with the SEC that I don't miss very often. Most recently they were going over Media Day and had interviews with head coaches, the SEC Commish, etc. Some was fluf but some was hard core and I was able to see some squirming. Overall, I thought is was pretty good and I'm starting to look forward to the show (since at first I thought is was going to be nothing but softballs).

Downgrade at qb and disagree wit wr core gettin better after losin woods. Agree wit online improvement and agree on rb, but tha d makin tha change is tha question, and I don't see rite now it improving from 60th last year.

Downgrade at QB I agree but how good was Barkley last year?

Defense is a big unknow.

WR-aglohor is really good and they have two very good tight ends coming back. Plus, 2 four star true freshman WR.

I like Woods, but I think he's a bit over rated. Woods is the only one not back and I think they will have more than enough to replace him.

Still gotta look at tha overall product all years of barks. Look at his jr season, its a big drop off to what they got now. Where do u have them in tha pac12?

Anyone take a look at these yet?

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida Gators linebacker Antonio Morrison has been arrested for the second time in five weeks, this time for allegedly barking at a police dog and resisting arrest, and will miss at least the first two games of the season after being suspended from the team Sunday.
Morrison's defense was the dog barked first, according to a police report.

According to an Alachua County Sheriff Office's report, police responded to a suspicious incident and disturbance call at 3:43 a.m. Sunday at a Gainesville hotel adjacent to a nightclub. While officer William A. Arnold was investigating the vehicle that was the subject of the call, a group of several men were walking along SW 13th Street.
One of the men reportedly approached the patrol car and began barking at his police dog through the open window. The report said that caused the dog, named Bear, to bark back at the man, which Arnold says in his report diverted his attention from investigating the vehicle.
The report says Arnold told the man -- later identified by his driver's license as Morrison -- to wait in front of his patrol car and the man resisted when Arnold tried to handcuff him. Two other officers arrived and helped detain Morrison, according to the report.
"I'm extremely disappointed in Antonio Morrison's decision making," Florida coach Will Muschamp said in a statement. "He has been suspended from the team and will miss at least two games to begin the season."
Alachua County Sheriff's spokesman Art Forgey said it's rare for someone to harass a canine officer.
"We don't see that very often at all," he said. "Gainesville Police Department has horses and they see it sometimes. Usually everybody steers clear of the dogs."
Morrison -- a 6-foot-1, 230-pound sophomore expected to be the Gators' starting middle linebacker this season -- told the officers he barked at the dog because the dog barked at him first.
He was booked into the Alachua County Jail at 4:15 a.m. ET.
Muschamp had previously said he hadn't decided whether to suspend Morrison as a result of a June 16 arrest for battery after he punched a nightclub bouncer because he was not given a discounted rate for admission. Muschamp said last Tuesday that Morrison was being punished inside the program for that transgression.
For that arrest, Morrison entered into a deferred prosecution, which stated he must pay $100 in prosecution costs and either an additional $150 or perform 12 hours of community service. He must also complete a University of Florida drug-and-alcohol abuse course, attend an anger-management course and participate in two eight-hour ride-alongs with the University of Florida Police Department.
If Morrison met those conditions within six months, the battery charge would be dismissed.

With that schedule, I think so too. This wager could be made as early as week 2 v. Georgia. My only concerns with this team, and maybe our experts like ETG could elaborate, but how solid are they expected to be at WR?

IMO SoCar's biggest concern is LB

However I do think their schedule sets up well. They may only be a dog in 1 very winnable game

Schedule wise-possible rough start for Southern Miss.
1st year HC

8/31 Texas St
9/7 @Nebraska....anyone look at the Huskers schedule? wow, seems easy
9/16 @Arkansas
bye
9/28 @Boise(who might be coming off a loss at Fresno)

USM should be ok .. team was hating on their coach last year and there were locker room issues. This is a better fit. Obviously they are getting ass kicked on that early schedule to a tune of 1-3 but their talent is ok and they should do decent in the conference. Hard to get excited about them after last year but trust me that they are better than what they showed ... and I am not saying that in the way P Steele would just so I can say later they "improved 3 games !!!!" .... well of course they will. I think they are a team to look to back and not a team to look to fade. Hard to believe their run defense could possibly be that bad last year with a defensive coord as a hc but they managed.... If that ship is not righted they could even struggle with txst.... Still stick to my feeling about them ... talent is ok.

I don't know a ton about So.Miss yet, just cutting my teeth on 2013...That start looks ugly thought. First game, new coach..who know...should win though..I'm high on Nebraska for some reason(lean overs) and they should roll, then Bielema and his running it up ass if possible should stomp in an early season primer in front of the home folk, then in a possible bad spot at boise. One of the few lower tiered/non-bcs teams with a rough schedule to start. Thanks for the words and a little more insight to that squad vk!

Ya ... all I am saying is that the team is coming off an 0-12... might struggle game 1 as you say and then face three games they aren't gonna be competitive in most likely ( and they will be lined that way ) ... after that they should be showing us LARGE value based on the previous 16 games results. That is all I am really getting at. Doubt market lines up to back them in October and I think they will be a good "back" and bad "fade" ATS from there.

Steele's article on USC...

The USC Trojans were the No. 1 team in the country at the start of last season. But not only did they not win the national title, they also went on to become the first preseason No. 1 team to finish the season unranked. As a result, their bandwagon, which was overcrowded in August 2012, is now almost empty. I will gladly stay on the Trojans' bandwagon for this upcoming season, however, because of many factors: an easier schedule, a deeper roster and the fact that expectations are much lower.

The biggest concern for the Trojans is at the quarterback spot. Last year, Matt Barkley came in as the front-runner for the Heisman, but he did not have the type of season everyone expected.Max Wittek played in eight games and started the last two with Barkley hurt, but he struggled big time in the bowl game. This year, he will be challenged by two talented underclassmen inCody Kessler and true freshman Max Browne, who was in for the spring and was arguably the best pro-style high school quarterback in the country last year. No matter who ends up being the starter, he will be surrounded by some of the best skill-position talent in the country, and I don't think the numbers will drop too much from 2012. Last year, a depth-shy offensive line unit forced Max Tuerk to become the first true frosh to start at left tackle for the Trojans. This year, they are much deeper, as the only loss is three-year starting center Khaled Holmes. They have 85 career starts returning, including four players who made my preseason All-Pac-12 team. This should be one of the nation's best offensive lines.

<offer>
With injuries at the running back position last season, the Trojans had to move linebacker Tre Madden to offense before he too was injured and forced to miss the entire season. USC then got a gift over the summer when former Penn State running back Silas Redd transferred and was able to play immediately. Redd topped 100 yards three times in the first six games and was on pace for 1,000 yards before being banged up (he finished with 905 yards). This year, they not only bring back Redd, but they are also much deeper behind him, as they return D.J. Morgan and get Madden back from injury in addition to adding two talented freshmen in Justin Davis and Ty Isaac.

The Trojans had arguably the best receiving corps in college football last year thanks to Marqise Lee, who easily won the Biletnikoff Award, finishing with 1,721 yards and 14 touchdowns. While No. 2 receiver Robert Woodsdeparts this year, keep an eye on Nelson Agholor, who could have a breakout season with defenses concentrated on Lee. At tight end, USC has a great one-two punch in juniors Xavier Grimble and Randall Telfer. While the unit did have some injuries in the spring, with George Farmer tearing his ACL and Grimble being out until August, this remains one of the top receiving corps in the country.

On the defensive side, the line was USC's most inexperienced unit on the entire team last year. With that inexperience, Morgan Breslin became the first juco defensive lineman to start an opener for USC since Marcus Bonds in 1994, while true freshman Leonard Williams started nine games and earned Pac-12 Freshman Defensive Player of the Year honors. The Trojans did allow 167 rushing yards per game, their highest since 1996, but also had 45 sacks.

The great news this year is they lose only defensive end Wes Horton. Breslin, after recording 13 sacks, is a possible first-round selection in next year's NFL draft, while George Uko is a solid talent at defensive tackle. With a new defensive coordinator in Clancy Pendergast and a move to a multiple front, this looks like USC's best D-line since 2008.

Last year, the Trojans started three sophomores at linebacker, and they finished as the team's No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 tacklers. This year, they return Hayes Pullard, who earned Pac-12 honors after recording 107 tackles. While Dion Bailey moves to strong safety, his loss is offset by the addition of former defensive end Devon Kennard, who returns healthy after missing last year. A player who could surprise is Jabari Ruffin, the scout team defensive player of the year last year as a true frosh. This unit has better depth than last year and should be one of the better linebacker units in the country.

This year, the losses are heavy at defensive back, as they lose a pair of All Pac-12 performers in free safety TJ McDonald and cornerback Nickell Robey. They do have four of the top eight returning and add in Bailey from linebacker. Highly regarded true freshmen Su'a Cravens andLeon McQuay III also figure to get plenty of action. While a lot less experienced, this unit could surprise thanks to a super defensive front seven that figures to generate a lot of pressure on opposing quarterbacks.

Overall, USC actually ranks No. 1 in the Pac-12 in my talent ratings in six out of nine categories, which says a lot about the Trojans' talent when the conference features perennial top-10 teams in Oregon and Stanford. With a much deeper team, the Trojans, unlike last year, are in better position to deal with an injury or two. The schedule sets up nicely as well; they do have to play both Arizona State and Notre Dame on the road, but they get Stanford and UCLA at home while avoiding Oregon for the first time since 2004. Currently, I have them favored in 11 games, with the other two games rated as toss-ups.

Though the pressure is clearly on coach Lane Kiffin to deliver, I think this year's squad is more talented and deeper than the 2012 preseason No. 1 squad. They also won't be playing with national title pressure. Add it all up and the Trojans will go from being a disappointing team last year to a dark-horse national title contender in 2013.

LSU under 8.5 wins +150

^^ I think there is a very good chance they win 8.

not yet.. But I don't like LSU that much this season.. I will be looking to bet against them.

Mich St will be much better because of improved QB play.. defense still top notch.
