Early Prelims:

  • Kirk moves up to 155 for the first time, but still has a good chance if he can impose his grappling and take the fight to the ground...over and over in necessary. Ribovics has not shown good TDD in his brief career. But Ribovics cardio is way better and after enduring a strong round or so from Kirk he should dominate the 2nd half of the fight with his crisp technical striking and possibly even get the late finish.
  • Another bout that will feature grappling heavy Aguilar against the distance striking game of Ross. Probably be closely contested early on, but once Aguilar gets it to the ground, the finish should not take long.
  • Undefeated prospect Saaiman is a huge favorite over UFC newcomer Terrence Mitchell who has compiled a 14-2 record with 14 finishes outside the UFC. Another short notice bout with Mitchell only getting the fight about 3 weeks ago. Small action on the finish as the line is too big to play. Main difference being Saaman is proven against much better competition.
  • It's hard to imagine Petrino not getting the finish...early. Probably round 1. Prachnio likely tries to maintain distance and try to land a big kick, that shit wont fly for long.

  • Jimmy Crute (12-3-1) vs Alonzo Menifield (13-3-1)...Rematch of a draw only 4 months ago. Crute could get KO's but if his chin holds up, I think his wrestling and ground control will lead to a decision win for the Aussie.
  • Tatsuro Taira (13-0) vs Edgar Chairez (10-4)..Tough UFC debut for Chairez on a couple weeks' notice. He may hold his own standing with Taira, but once it goes to the ground, it's probably sub-time.
  • Yazmin Jauregui (10-0) vs Denise Gomes (7-2)...Gomes is an aggressive fighter and may pose a much larger problem than the odds would indicate. If Gomes does land a big shot, she will chase the finish with everything she has but it Jauregui plays it safe she will probably win a run of the mill decision. Over for me.
  • Niko Price (15-6) vs Robbie Lawler (29-16)...In a perfect world "Ruthless" would win by a highlight-reel KO, but in the real world most retirement fights don't go well. Lawler does actually matchup well with Price. He just needs to protect his chin, which is not the way he generally does business. Niko's very durable and won't go down easily and will definitely land some shots. Robbie's battle worn chin probably won't hold up.

I'm actually happy for Robbie even though it cost me, that was a storybook ending! video

Even UFC posted the video.

UFC 290

Main Card
  • Bo Nickal (4-0 vs Val "The Animal" Woodburn (7-0)...Nickal should get Woodburn to the ground in short order, as Val makes a habit of swinging himself into the clinch with wide shots. He should have enough jiujitsu to defend on the ground initially, but we probably see multiple R1 takedowns ending with an early sub.
  • Jalin Turner (13-6) vs Dan Hooker (22-12)...Hooker is solid everywhere and may look to wrestle here, which would be smart. Turner's size and length on the feet is probably more than the "Hangman" can deal with. Generally, the KO would be the play, but Dan is so damn tough, still the miles are adding up and I do expect a finish from Turner.
  • Robert Whittaker (24-6) vs Dricus Du Plessis (19-2)...The "Reaper" is one of my favorites, but I do think this line is too high. Driscus is huge, with a granite chin and cracks hard and often with very high output. Whittaker is kind of the same but a bit more calculating and I do believe quicker. I think Driscus will be very dangerous at first but once he slows even a little Rob will so slow a bit. On the ground I would give a significant edge to Whittaker so even with these fucked up odds, I see no way to back Driscus.

That's the way I capped it, but I'm still taking 2 dogs just because of these rediculous odds.

  • 4/7.24 ALEXANDRE PANTOJA +181
  • 3/4.20 PANTOJA vs MORENO u3½ +140

  • Brandon Moreno (21-6-2) vs. Alexandre Pantoja (25-5)...Pantoja is 2-0 against Moreno and even though Moreno might be the most improved fighter in the UFC since then...the losses still have to be in his mind. Pantogia is no joke, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt with 10 subs. His cardio has been an issue, and this is his first 5 rounder so there is that. But the dogs are barking so let's chase em.
