2024 Free Agency and Trades Discussion

NFL free agency is pure fools gold so expect the Jets to go in heavy despite having no money. Rumors are swirling that Rodgers grandmother will be signed to pair at WR with Lazard after all she can't be worse than he was.

You're getting new uniforms next season, enjoy that news.

I think Rodgers was a good plus for the Jets. They have a bunch of good players and a better defense than most . They could have a good year next year if Rodgers can still play. A few Free agents could bring them to the top in the division.
We'll see,

We'll see,
Here is a list of losers with this team because of Rodgers

Hackett- worst OC in the history of the league
Cobb- washed up receiver who Aaron wanted because they are friends
Lazard- 11 million a year on a guy that looked like he belonged in the CFL
Billy Turner- turnstile tackle who had ties to both Rodgers and Hackett
Dalvin Cook- eventually cut but paid 7 million to average around 3 yards a carry

There might be others that I missed but that list was one disaster after another. This team is coming in third place in their division and only the inept Patriots will keep them out of last place. If Rodgers was 10 years younger and the team had competent coaching they would have a chance but Saleh and Hackett mean the losses will keep on coming. The best part will be when Aaron gets hurt again and the inept coaches no longer have Zach Wilson to blame for their stupidity.

In all seriousness NFL free agency should be used to supplement a roster and most big signings wind up being huge mistakes.

How much does Sean Payton hate Russ if they are more than willing to have a ton of dead money on their cap just to get rid of him.

Wilkes fired.

Kyle right in saying not the right fit. But they should have known that beforehand.

Does he still have a job if a holding call is made or a punt doesn’t touch someone’s toe?

Who knows.

Go get Vrabel. And then bring Saleh back after he gets fired in a year after Vrabel gets hired also in one year.

Go get Saleh and I will personally pay for his moving expenses.

At least he shows emotion. He’s a great DC.
Have no idea what kind of coordinator he is but I do know he is in over his head as the top guy. He may have showed emotion as Niners coordinator but most of the time he looks like he'd rather be anywhere else than coaching this team.

I look forward to Aaron getting hurt again next season and watching Saleh and Hackett flailing away with some scrub like Trubisky or Tannehill.

Has Vrabel ever been a coordinator? Talk about one of the most overrated coaches in the league Vrabel is that guy. Of course most Jets fans are jerking themselves off to the thought of him being next up but I want no part of him and his 1950s offense.

Where does Justin Fields end up and how much do the Bears want in return?

I believe if he ends up in the right spot he can be a very good starter in the league.

I was hoping the Falcons but sounds like he's not a fit for their system.

Pittsburgh is -125 now in some books for him.

Pitt makes sense. I wanted to see him on the Raiders, he would be a great fit. I don't think they go in that direction though.

I'd be shocked to see the Steelers make a serious play for him. They kept Pickett listed as the #1 QB on the depth chart even while Rudolph was leaping over him at the end of the year. They've already made their OC the scapegoat for 2023, they're not ready to cut bait on their 2022 #1 draft pick. More likely they pick up some Arthur Smith pets like Tannehill and Jonnu Smith than look for a still somewhat raw natural talent like Fields. I don't think they think Fields is that big of an upgrade yet.

On the other side, the Bears have to be smarting from giving up the 32nd overall pick to Pittsburgh for Claypool. I can't imagine they'll accept a bargain price from Khan on this one.

Few weeks back it seemed probable that Cousins was going to be in ATL

Thoughts?
My expectation is that Kirkie stays in Minnesota. The way their coach played musical chairs at QB suggests they never got comfortable with anyone. Would be surprised if they didn’t go right back to their known commodity over yet another unknown.

Atlanta is the wildcard. New management in town, they’ll be on the hunt.

Fields can still end up in a number of places. ATL, PIT, SEA, TB, etc. In terms of what they'll get I do believe a 1st will be included either this year or next. Historically speaking QBs get this return let alone a player that has his skillset. Speaking of skillset beyond running everyone loves to point to him not being a developing passer but he is. I've always pointed out how awful the Bears OL, WR, and OC have been. This is the first year he had a real NFL WR...

Fields passer rating throwing to Kmet 109
Fields passer rating throwing to Fields 139
Fields passer rating to all other players 54

The Bears OL gave up 60% pressure rate on passing downs which was the highest in the NFL. When Fields had a clean pocket 40% of the time, he got rid of the ball in 2.5 seconds. And when there was not pressure his passer rating was 109. When pressured, that is when he held onto the ball and his average time was around 3.5 seconds.

I know the story is as old as time about QB's getting pressured are way worse. The combination of an awful OL, OL, and WR for 3 years cannot be overlooked when evaluating Fields. I'll go out on a limb and say he is better than Lamar Jackson. They have the same running skillset, Fields has a better arm and accuracy frankly. The difference is coaching and personnel.

Also, reports are a deal is getting done at the combine and Fields is gone.

Good for the Falcons if the rumors are true that they prefer Cousins to Fields which on a short term deal is pretty smart. Got to give Kirk credit for maximizing his value throughout his career.

I don't know if Fields has better football sense than Lamar. He takes crushing blows and his consistent lack of availability is equal to playing as poorly as your backup. I've seen him miss way too many gimmie throws. He should have better #s vs. pressure than the average QB, not worse, with his legs. He also runs INTO sacks and it's impossible to block for someone like that. I don't think he'll ever get an ideal offensive situation and will always struggle.

Kirk going there makes them easily the best in the South. Fields would be keeping the job warm for his slightly worse version of himself in Riddler once he gets hurt.

Russ and Cousins will likely land somewhere before the draft I think, Bears might well wait until then to trade Fields. Be really interesting to see who ATL gets, I'd heard rumors about Russ in Jan. Not sure how much he'll impact a new team as far as the cap goes.

Cousin's wife went to UGA, he's already a member of a country club in ATL. Makes sense from what the new OC wants to do. Don't think Justin Fields does check that box.

The snow in ATL smells a ton better than in Minny

Just a rumor but it makes sense

Bills released Poyer today. Yesterday they traded OL Bates to the Bears, and it looks like they’re also releasing starting C for the past 5 years in Mitch Morse.

That OL is getting thinner and that is NOT a good thing when their line has been one of the strengths of this team in recent years.

They also released WR Harty, who they just signed last off season.

They are going to have to really work to not regress this upcoming season…mostly because their cap is a mess and they’re making these moves to try and make it make even the slightest bit of sense.

Bears locking in on Saquon or Jacobs. Could see Ridley or Gabe Davis as well.

Wilikns or Jones will be a priority with Huff as the edge specialist.
