Surprised that there is little talk about this.
It is going to be interesting to see the back story with all the BS that's happened with FIFA.
Nevertheless some of these women can play and there's some really good rivalries.

USA cannot win this without a healthy Alex Morgan. She is a deadly finisher.

Hearing she should be near 100% after the group stages. I'd look for opps to bet against USA in the group stages if Morgan is not being used.
 
Ok couple things to look out for when you wager these types of games.

Parity: The parity can be quite huge as some teams are just well seasoned players playing at high levels whereas some teams are just filled with anyone who can kick a ball.
Pros/Amateurs: If you look at the teams that constantly play very well, you'll notice the women play at top tier teams all year round. Women like Wambach, Marta, Sinclair, Morgan all play on very competitive squads that most importantly win.
Who can attack?: There aren't many teams that have a very consistent attack, which means be careful playing -1.5 on certain teams. Are you wagering -1.5 because team A can attack at will or simply because team B is really bad defensively. The Germans have always had the killer instinct and go for the win vs really shit teams so you may very well see them win 3-0 or more against the likes of Ivory Coast and Thailand.
Rivalries: Theres plenty of stories amongst the team because a lot of these players either play in the same team/leagues but a lot have been capped many times and have seen each other play for 10 plus years. We all know that the USA/Canada rivalry is probably the most intense one at this WC and many would love to see this potential matchup happen. Other matchups you want to see England/Germany, USA/Germany.
 
Germany is my pick to win it all! But my heart is with the Canadian women!

Was thinking of max betting Germany to win it all, but I can't be putting that kind of $$$ on womens soccer.

Politics.
It's quite clear with the shit happening in the mens game it translate down to the womens. There's corruption involved, poor funding and support. We saw this in Tennis with Na Li who was doing as well and she just quit. The question always remains, you have over a billion people but yet cannot field a strong XI...what the fuck?

Group D is bonkers...it really is the wild card in that group is Nigeria.
Brazil oddly enough is the only South American team that actually is considered good. The rest of region in the women's game is really really really really bad. It's quite pathetic really.
 
as of now I'm playing Netherlands/New Zealand o2.5 @ 2.05
I am not sold on this Dutch D to keep a cleansheet here.

In the other match, I don't know if I can trust the Canadians to win big. Defensively they are stout but outside of Sinclair, the offence is very mediocre at best. China is shit so this is one of those situations where you have OK team vs really shit squad. You know I'd love for a Canuck win but there are really really high expectations for Canada and I am not a fan backing Canada as favourites.
Quite frankly I would not be surprised if this is the only game Canada wins...they are going to be in for a surprise vs Netherlands and even the Kiwis. If Sinclair gets injured...bye bye

Being realistic here, they do not possess the fire power that the likes of Germany and the US have. The US will be ok without Morgan but a Canada team with Sinclair is doomed. The Canadians have never proven to be successful on the international stage until the 2012 Olympics. They were robbed of that Gold Medal game but after that, their results have been OK. They need to start beating the other top tier teams, such as Germany, Japan, France. There is obsession of wanting to beat the US that they lose focus on other games. Seriously it's fuck the rest of the world, we just want to beat the Americans. Tons of pressure on these ladies whom really don't get this pressure consistently so they wouldn't know. Sinclair is really the only seasoned pro, playing with Wambach at Portland so thus her skill level is very high. But the rest aren't even really "Pros" they aren't getting paid to play.

Usually play in games but think this one has some good odds to start with.
 
Canada result was one that was expected, low scoring and of course needed to be a bit fortunate to squeek out 1-0.
Vs the Dutch this will be very interesting, experience vs debutants. The game was quite ugly and I was hoping the Kiwi's would of at least put a goal past, but this is 10 game in a row the Kiwi's have failed to win at a WC. If the Dutch offence were to play like this vs Canada I can see the Canucks taking advantage because the intensity will favour the home team and Sinclair has the killer instinct. But as we have it it still think Canada/Dutch pass through.
 
Germany will destroy Ivory Coast....this is absolutely lopsided. This is where it gets to be a bit of a joke where you see a bunch of pros play amateurs. Yes you can look into the rankings to see the facts as IC are the lowest ranked team in the tournament and are making their debut, while the Germans are still the top dog.
I've seen women matches where it's lopsided and it's really a joke, unlike the men side where they just kick the ball around to kill the 90mins, really shitty opponents suck so bad that even if they tried to kick the ball out of the half way line they will some how aim the wrong direction and kick it into their own net.
No Kesseler in the middle of the pitch due to injury, for those of you who don't know, she's the reigning FIFA Women's Player of the Year. Essentially if she was in the line up this would be 10-0 without her it's going to be around 7-0. IC pose no threat to the German mid and they can solely focus on setting up attacks.

thanks braves, that was a rather walk in the park.

Today's game there is only 1 game that I put a red flag and that's the Cameroon/Ecuador game. Both are really shit and both will aim for the win here. As mentioned before South America really doesn't produce anything special outside of Brasil when it comes to the women's game. Ecuador were the 3rd team qualifying here and are just notoriously poor away from home soil.
Cameroon on the other hand fare slightly better but their qualifying region is really bad as well. Aside from Nigeria, Cameroon really have played piss poor opposition. Like any other African side they play based on physical contact rather than superior skill. The Ecuadorian women are smaller in frame, so expect to see a lot of higher balls. Speed wise they are very similar so there will be a lot of ridiculous running around.
Nevertheless this is a game they both have to win because they will both get crushed by the Swiss and Japan.

Nigeria/Sweden is a very very good matchup. Nigeria a potential dark horse so this is the game that is deciding who advances with the US
Swiss/Japan these two teams are essentially going through so this is the play for top of the table.
 
heavy favs really don't lose in the first 2 opening games, it's usually on the 3rd game you see a bitch of a shock.

The only teams you can really trust as being heavy favs and actually covering a spread are the US and Germany simply because they have the fire power to score goals at will.

Asisat Oshoala...remember this name, she is currently 20 and is a legend in the making. She single handedly brought the Nigerian u20 to the finals last year only to be denied by Ze Germans. In that tournament she won the Golden Ball and Golden Boot. She is a game changer, very much an integral part of this team at only a young age, the speed and creativity she has is beyond her age.
Nigeria is the staple of Football in Africa as the US/Mexico are in CONCACAF, no one touches them there and the development of their youth program has been astounding.
Funny thing is the Swedes are having a hard time finding game footage of the Nigerian women.
On the Swedish side some of you know who the coach is, Pia Sundhage, the former Womens USNT coach. This squad has had very mixed results, they are one of two teams to have beaten Ze Germans in the last 2 years during the Algarve Cup but they have a knack of losing when the games matter most.
They do have women who play at a rather competitive level both youngsters and veterans so the professionalism, Nilla Fischer is the rock in D but they also have a lot of attacking options as well in Schelin and Segar. Thing that most people wonder is which Sweden turns up? They aren't the model of consistency and this game has been touted with a lot of tactical switches as both coaches have been rather hush hush about their approach.
I think this is going to be an entertaining match with a lot at stake early on.
I'm up in arms as to the total since both sides can score but Nigeria to me hold a defensive edge.
Nigerians for me have shown in recent months they are amped up for this and quite frankly are up to turn some heads. Its a pity they are in one of the toughest groups but so far from what I've seen/read they have a great attitude. The coaching tactics is going to be key here, as both sides are very talented and pros. A draw is ideal here for Nigeria but the Swedes need a win because that match up for the US...is going to be trouble.
Backing Nigeria as the odds really do not justify Swedes being this heavily favored when both sides are rather equal, it is in name and experience that the price is given.

Japan/Swiss has potential for under. Japs are a very possession based team and are very very disciplined so they are quite selective on their attacks. They are a veteran laden squad while the Swiss are making their debuts.

I seriously can't figure out this Cameroon game I'm going to stick to in game and play an over when the 75th minute comes up. Both sides will be rather nervy then

Just some thoughts here on this match.
For as great as this US Team is, they still miss something come World Cup. The first winners in 1991 and in recent 1999 with that stacked and legendary line up, since then the US have missed golden opportunities to lift the trophy more times. A lot of people have mentioned that if the US don't win this years WC then it's a failure, but then again they have always come in as one of the favourites to lift the trophy, but something different this year about the expectations.
Alex Morgan is just about full fit from her injury and we could see her as a sub, Rapione is sidelined and we also have the ongoing off field saga of Hope Solo.
I seriously think the media is just trying to find some sort of story to nit pick on this squad because they are close to unbeatable. Few sports witness dominance and for over a decade the US has shown that. They have set the standard high since 1991 and continued it each decade to improve, from the likes of Akers, to Ham, to Wambach, now the likes of Morgan and Lecunt are in the mix. Unless their entire starting XI is injured this team is stacked so deep. Having Morgan is a bonus because they can score at will.
Their offensive jaggernaut is filled with size, speed, finesse and skill. Wambach compliments Morgan and vice versa. This team can coach itself as all the women have played with one another for an extended period of time.
Australia's squad is pretty young and have tendencies to get emotionally erratic. Very talented but not proven on the big stage. What you are seeing is the potential for a great team come 2019 but this WWC you will see a lot of tinkering and trying to figure out an identity.
The US have never lost to the Aussies and the trend should continue. One side is constantly playing against the better sides, while the other is scrapping by against mediocre opposition.
Australia will aim to get on the score sheet, while I think the US will aim to hit 5.
I think this is going to be 5-0 or 4-0 type of game.
