2015 Offseason News/Notes, Injuries, Suspensions, Etc thread

Rumors that Bryan Mone, a DT for Michigan, could be out for the year with a leg injury. Would have seen serious time, if not a starter.

The rumor all day ranged from broken leg to broken ankle. Luckily, this is an area of depth but I was looking forward to seeing what he can do. I would expect a redshirt but they can play the wait and see game.

[h=3]Bielema: Jonathan Williams to miss entire regular season[/h]Posted: Aug 17, 2015 11:56 AM CDTUpdated: Aug 17, 2015 11:56 AM CDT

FAYETTEVILLE (KATV) - Bret Bielema revealed Monday morning that Jonathan Williams' left foot injury will keep him on the sidelines for the entire regular season, perhaps any postseason games as well.
Williams suffered the injury in Saturday's scrimmage, when he ran into a defensive lineman. He will undergo surgery, possibly as soon as today. Doctors will place a screw in his foot, and the recovery time from the operation is longer than the Hogs' regular season.
Bielema said he is still confident in his team.
"If there is one team in college football that can take a hit at the running back position, it's the Arkansas Razorbacks."

Jacob Coker missed practice today and will miss several more. If it's truly a wide open QB competition, this can't be good for his chances. The sharp money is on Alec Morris at this point IMO

5 huskers, including one defensive starter are suspended for the opener. No names given. If it's anyone in the front 7, that's a decent sized loss.

Jonathan Williams, starting RB at Arkansas, 2nd team all-SEC last year, 2,000 career rushing yards yards had surgery and is probably out for year and career at Arkansas probably over.

This will hurt because he was also a good receiver out of the backfield, but Arkansas still has talent at RB.

muy intersante..byu still +6.5. can't be too damning, right?

If it's front seven, it will matter as Neb is very thin at DL and LB. if it's anyone else, it really won't. Neb has tons of WR that can/will play. Several RB can play. Fairly deep secondary, as that was the one spot where Pelini rarely missed on a recruit. TE Carter would be a fairly significant loss, but I highly doubt it's him. Be shocked if it's Armstrong as well.

Hearing that the Nebraska suspended starter is LB Michael Rose-Ivey. This is a significant loss. Nebraska already is starting a true frosh at LB, Dedrick Young. Next up are guys who have played little or none....I would think true soph Marcus Newby, who Young beat out, and RS frosh Luke Gifford are next man up. Remember that another returning starting LB, David Santos, already left the team and that a guy who would likely be starting now, Courtney Love, transferred to Kentucky. Yikes.

Baker Mayfield was named starting QB at Oklahoma.

Fans are fired up, but he still has to prove he is the answer and he hasn't done it in a real game at this point.

He was the first walk-on to start his first game as a Freshman at a D-I school at Texas Tech, but he was in and out that year.

He had 12 TDs, 9 picks, but most of his TDs came against the likes of Kansas and SMU and Stephen F Austin, and he threw the picks against the good teams, and was shut out by a sub par Texas team.

The positives are that he was a true freshman then and is a third years sophomore now, has had a lot of practice time since he transferred to OU, so there is some reason for optimism, the coaches like his leadership and confidence, and the players like playing for him. And he has a lot more talent to work with, including one of the best running games in the country, at OU than he ever had at Tech.

Negatives are that he is a small guy--doesn't look like he is even 6 feet tall although they claim he is--was injury prone at Tech, and is playing behind a suspect O-line.

Bottom line: Reserve judgment until he goes into Neyland Stadium in week two against a good SEC defense.

Noah Brown (WR) big loss for Ohio St. Beyond just the pass catching, probably the most reliable blocker of the WR core and was going to replace Evan Spencer -- last year's most reliable blocking WR.
