Welcome to the wildest coaching carousel we've seen ...

No. The coach that wants to leave his playoff bound 11-1 team has to wear it and you can’t let one of your most bitter rivals’ new HC hang around your program for a month. Either you’re in or you’re out. No amount of shilling from CAA and Sexton friendly media mouthpieces will change that.
I don't think he wants to leave his team right now any more than any other coach who has been pursued by another big time program has or a player who was draft-eligible has wanted to sit out a bowl game due to risk of injury.

No one wants to do this to their team, heir program or their fanbase, do they ?

Theory: lane did not care for the pressure campaign by the Ole Miss brass (they are pushing the decision timetable not the other way around) and he's dragging his decision out just to spite them. Maybe even to let other potential coaches get scooped up such as Sumrall by Florida.

If he's doing this, I don't blame him. OM hasn't been relevant nationally for over 60 years but they (and some of their fans) are acting like they made him.

It's the other way around.

It’s not complicated. Kiffin wants to go to LSU but he wants to coach Ole Miss in the playoffs. It is that simple.

And if not for the 12 team playoff we are probably not witnessing this because Ole Miss would be one of the first few outside the top 4.

So it is unchartered water and will be a test case for future situations.

There was never a chance he was getting fired. Look at this shit show for Florida, LSU, Penn St and AU. No way Greg Byrne wants anything to do with this current carousel.
I agree. I think it’s just ridiculous. I didn’t understand the supposed thought that he could end up at Penn State but there was lots of nonsense out there online, etc. leading up to Iron Bowl.

All the stuff about him to Penn St started from random Penn St people, and was refuted by everyone on our side. I do think there is a segment of our fanbase that wants him to fail, but it's a minority

I think we'll agree that LSU has their guy. It is simply a question of when he will go there. Probably very soon.

And Florida is going to land a very good coach, probably Sumrall.

Penn State and Auburn? Yeah shitshows for sure.

But it's hard to believe all of this is going on and we just finished Thanksgiving supper a few days ago.

It used to be that these questions did not start until after Championship Saturday in the quiet period before the bowl games.

Now these questions are starting right after Halloween.

Sumrall is a good coach but I think Fla will be in the same spot 3 years from now. Looking for a new coach

How are they competing with
Georgia. Bama, LSU, Texas, and A&M etc in the recruiting game with Sumrall? What will change ?

Looking at espn .. They have 1 top 100 recruit for 2026 .

It's just not the football I grew up watching. One bad season and all the powers that br want you fired and are willingly to buy you out immediately no matter how big the contract is .

I not a passenger on the Lane train, i dont care about either Ole Miss or LSU (one of the could take Rich Rod from WVU if they like). I do have 2 main problems with this whole process in general.

First, do colleges, who have a mid season vacancy, just have this whole will he or wont he news cycle dominate the landscape the entire last part of the season? There have been some fantastic games and great stories on the field that have been overshadowed by all these open spots and folks speculatimg on who will fill them.

Can we not wait until after conference championships to at least begin this shit. I know recruiting, fan bases, portal stuff and the like all can be negatively affected by waiting to fill a spot.

Second, withe the Lane hire specifically, assuming he goes to LSU. Folks say he will have an easier recruiting path, better resources, and a number of benefits if he goes. Why not take the gonzaga approach and build a program into the powerhouse of your closest competitors? What kind of message does it send to players, go only to yhe top 8 programs cause they pay you more.

Will we ever see a coach last at any one of the top tier programs for the duration of any of these contracts. Perhaps i am just old school and i need to understand this is the way it is now. But i dont need to like it.

College sports suck. The worst part is it's what we all relate most closely to because it's simply more convenient and less expensive to be a fan. And it hits really hard when a team like Ole Miss gets jammed up. As an ISU fan, I get it. We don't have pro sports. We live and die by our college programs. I've gone to more ISU bowl games than ASU football games and I moved to Arizona in 1998. It's who we identify with.

Blaming the coach will always be misguided. The system in place is rotten and shits on the fans/alumnii because they let us bitch and laugh at us. I didn't even go to ISU but I spend a fuck ton of money to go to bowl games. I imagine Ole Miss fans are dealing with the fallout like I would if Campbell or TJ left. College sports suck as a business model but everyone on here will forever bet on it.

And im not faulting Lane if he goes or stays. I have never had to deal with a $100m decision on which job to take. That would be tough. But, there in no loyalty by the employer, so why should the employee (or potential employee) take that into consideration.

He has been in some bad situatiins before, some of his own doing or lack of experience.

This is a disaster at Ole Miss. The 9am team meeting was allegedly postponed to 1pm as Kiffin fears for his safety. Locker room is divided - some players are pro Kiffin but many team leaders want him out of building ASAP. Rumor is that the snake may not even speak to the team at 1pm. Who is left from coaching staff? Do players opt out? Does Ole Miss get the FSU treatment and get left out of CFP? As an Ole Miss season ticket holder and someone who spends $$$$ every year going to games, I am disgusted with this situation.

I'm sorry, man. Everyone says it's about the players. No. No it's not. It's about money and greed and a bullshit system that allows this.

Why would LSU allow him to coach the CFP or why would they wait to hire Lane after the CFP?
Exactly. The System is what caused this situation.

Lane is pushing back against the entire system.

He is pushing back against The Deep State of college football. The establishment.

Should we be shredding him or applauding him?

He built the Ole Miss squad so he wants to finish what he built.

This is a tough one, no?

I can empathize with both sides here.

Anyone else ?

If I were an Ole Miss fan there is no way I would want him coaching the team in the playoffs.

Well, it certainly is better than Durkin. You can't have Auburn hiring a guy who failed at Maryland with the added bonus of a dead player.

OM candidates like Golesh getting scooped up today so Lane is hurting them in multiple ways today.

Just a brutal situation.

They'll make a movie about this some day and he won't be the good guy.
