Welcome to the wildest coaching carousel we've seen ...

Mora was pound for pound one of the best hires in the last 5 years, uconn is likely around umass levels without him. Thought he could get a better job for sure. Fwiw I wouldn’t be surprised if Sammis sticks as HC, he deserves a lot of credit for UConn’s success recently too
Right on.

I agree, he probably could have gotten a better job.

Maybe this is his plan?

Next stop is a big one imo.

Jim Mora might be better suited for these sam

I think it was a bad ending at UCLA after a few good seasons so he had his chance and now needs to work his way back?

He's almost 65yo so he does not have too much time to do it at CSU before he takes a step back up, no?

I don't think he needs another job. Guy could just retire in Colorado and love life.

UCLA football is no man's land now. State employee when your cross-town rival is privately funded. It's virtually impossible to meet the standards that UCLA demands but doesn't have the monopoly money to play with. I seriously think he did well at that place under the circumstances. USC were basically going through a lite version of the SMU deal so he probably made the job look glossier than it really was.

They have the money now! But I hear you, Bud. Good points.

Very good point.

I'll be 100% honest, I had no clue he was 64. I figured 58-60.

Yes, bad ending at UCLA. So, with his age, maybe he's trying to do a quick 2 year audition in Colorado and grab one more semi high profile gig to finish it off?

If they ever do a remake of Deuce Bigalow Male Gigolo I suggest Lane Kiffin for the role; of course this is assuming he's leaving Ole Miss.

Hopefully this is his intent and he can get back into the big time for one last run, then he can do a "playoffs......playoffs??" Rant like his old man.

I assume you mean Joey Freshwater who actually already has a job in Hollywood if the football thing fizzles out

If Sumrall goes to Florida or the loser of Kiffin sweepstakes, there is going to be mass panic in Auburn

  • Haha
Reactions: KJ
I see you salivating all over this process
Everyone who has paid attention over the last 15 years knew exactly how this would turn out. Their on3 mods are now confirming that Sumrall to AU is unlikely, and the sentiment seems to be that talks broke down because AU was insisting that certain coaches be retained, notably Durkin.

Governor Tuberville is going to be one hell of a trip. And that means mushrooms.

As long as Governor Tuberville has a good working relationship with Lt Governor AJ McCarron and Senator Paul Finebaum, should at least be a gentle trip

Seems Iike there is some momentum between Eli Drinkwitz and AU. Could be agent leak type stuff, so I'm not confident there is mutual interest, though the AU on3 mods indicate that he's emerging as a more serious candidate
That's a wrap now w Eli locked up on new deal ?

Penn St is a hard sell

You instantly start off with a ceiling of 4th in the b10 (Ohio, Oregon, Michigan are so much bigger) then you have to deal with a much larger campus (Wisky) so much more alumni. Other than the 110k home field, where is the advantage? Oh and USC, UCLA, Washington will all blow you out the water at some point.

We are a long way from UCLA or Washington being able to recruit like Penn State.

The state of PA has tremendous HS football talent.

UCLA and Wash just aren't that strong in recruiting anymore.

$144M offer from LSU?

How can one possibly turn that down?!!

That is generational F U money !!
There’s no $144 million offer on the table for an actual contract for Kiffin as far as I know. It’s under $100 million for like 7 years. The $144 mm includes Kelly’s buyout. LSU is still not a done deal. Good lord let’s deal in facts

Not for long. That was my point.

Sorry, I did not realize it is a combined dollar amount of buyout for BK plus offer to LK.

My bad - I was skimming. I admit it. Also on a turkey hangover/coma LOL

LSU’s $144M Power Play for Lane Kiffin Confirmed by Insider Amid Brian Kelly Drama

The Lane Kiffin bidding war is only getting hotter. Despite running miles ahead of Florida and Ole Miss, LSU is not hitting the brakes. Now, amid the Brian Kelly drama, Locked on LSU’s host Matt Moscona has confirmed their $144 million power play to get the current Rebels head coach to Baton Rouge.

“Jimmy Sexton represents Lane Kiffin,” Moscona said on yesterday’s episode. “He wants the best deal for his client. And he’s not going to let his clients sign a contract that he doesn’t think is going to be honored. How do you overcome that? ‘BK, here’s your $54 million. Lane, you ready? Okay.’ It’s further evidence that LSU is singularly focused on Lane Kiffin. They’re all in on Lane Kiffin.”

Earlier this week, LSU reportedly sent a written termination letter to its former head coach, Brian Kelly. The same clearly stated that they are firing him “without a cause,” confirming that the Tigers were ready to give him the $54 million buyout.

Moreover, the previously leaked $90 million contract proposal to Kiffin further underscored LSU’s total $144 million play to secure the Ole Miss head coach for Baton Rouge as soon as the Rebels announce his decision after Friday’s Egg Bowl.

While Moscona claimed that people at LSU were not thrilled about Kiffin’s contract details being leaked, it ultimately became a massive opportunity for them to show their interest. Already, they’ve made enough bets on why the 50-year-old could be more successful with them.

Reportedly, along with the seven-figure contract, the Tigers are ready to add $25 million NIL fund to lure top-tier talent. Additionally, unlike Ole Miss, which relies heavily on transfers, LSU boasts perennial top-5 recruiting classes. That means Kiffin could build a powerhouse with his offensive acumen and player development skills in talent-rich Louisiana and the broader SEC regions. They also got the entire Kiffin family on a private jet to visit Baton Rouge earlier.

Can Ole Miss let him coach? I couldn't if I was in their spot. I wouldn't want him around. I still think about Michigan basketball in 88 or 89. Coach said he was leaving for Arizona St. Schembechler told him to hit the road, not letting him coach the tournament. Steve Fischer takes over and they win the whole damn thing.

No. The coach that wants to leave his playoff bound 11-1 team has to wear it and you can’t let one of your most bitter rivals’ new HC hang around your program for a month. Either you’re in or you’re out. No amount of shilling from CAA and Sexton friendly media mouthpieces will change that.
