Welcome to the wildest coaching carousel we've seen ...

He has been very good at home for sure. I don’t know the overall record but he has won 22 out of 23 at home.

Maybe he has turned a corner with the road win at Oklahoma but he has been shaky at best on road. I went to the OU/Ole Miss game in Norman and I’ll say the OU fans were some of the nicest, most hospitable fans I’ve encountered.

We will see what happens. If I could bet a prop that he lasts less than 5 years at LSU (assuming he ends up there), I’d bet it heavily.

Agree with everything you said and would also predict he does not last more than 5Y at LSU or Florida.

Also, very glad to hear the fans in Norman were very nice.

Nebraska fans are also known for being exceptionally nice.

It is nice to hear stories like this, Bud.

🤝

He’s a C- in game coach but an A+ recruiter/talent evaluator and portal navigator. I remember the disaster Matt Luke was and I don’t want to go back to that . And again I don’t care about your word salad about bullish setup or stock rising. He is 1-6 at Ole Miss against ranked opponents on the road and 12-11 overall at Ole Miss in road conference games. That’s not great. That’s not gonna cut it at LSU. You do understand this????? Or maybe not since it appears I am talking to Jimmy Sexton agent for Lane Kiffin.
If he goes (which seems inevitable at this point), and you get Sumrall ... you've absolutely upgraded at HC for the long term.

Younger guy, superior record, played in the SEC, he's 43 and hungry for that first big job opportunity....the roster has talent already....he's been HC at 2 deep southern schools and has a 41-11 record....already has recruiting roots there and has proven himself so far....

Give me the hungrier guy with talent all day long that just wants that big chance...look at DeBoer in Tuscaloosa....somewhat similar situation.

That's the guy.

Sumrall might end up being a home run hire but remind me of all the big wins he's had; oh nevermind he's never coached at this level sort of like Sun Belt Billy before landing the Florida job. These lower level coaches all seem like sure things until they aren't.

I think Lane would be making a big mistake if he leaves Ole Miss but he's always been a vagabond looking for the next big opportunity.

I think if Lane stays at Ole Miss, he will be able to grow into the coach a lot of people think he already is at his own pace. At LSU or Florida, he will be expected to be in the CFP every year, beat their rivals immediately, etc. Not to mention all of the other stuff that goes along with that type of job off the field. I think his best bet is to try to turn Ole Miss into that type of job

If Lane leaves, and Sumrall goes to Ole Miss, that will be a big blow to AU, who it seems the fans already assume Sumrall is their guy. I guess they'd go with Durkin at that point

I agree 100% - he hasn’t won as many big games as Majent thinks. Maybe you should go back year by year. I am an Ole Miss season ticket holder and I have watched every single game since Kiffin has been there. I want him to stay - he is great at working the portal and a good talent evaluator. He is a below average in game coach. Watch the stupid bullshit he did at Florida last year - he started our 5th wide receiver Micah Davis at tailback (he had never played there before) when Ulysses Bentley (an actual good running back who had over 100 yards against LSU) was healthy. Bentley got no touches in that game but Davis got 11 carries for almost no yards and our freaking 320lb defensive tackle JJ Pegues got 6 carries at TAILBACK and was stopped on 4th down multiple times. It cost us a playoff spot! Do you think Kirby Smart or Deboer or Ryan Day does this stupid bullshit without making adjustments in game to get something working with the run game??? Of course not. They are top tier coaches. Kiffin is not. He is 12-11 in SEC road games at Ole Miss and 1-6 on the road against ranked opponents. This is not the work of a coaching legend. These are facts not opinions.
Remember when he lost to Kentucky because he was ass hurt that his 25 year old girlfriend broke up with him? That was cool.

It was Lane's decision to start Cooper Bateman against Ole Miss in 2015. 5 turnovers later, normal starter Jake Coker almost completed the comeback. If it hadn't been for that crazy lateral play against Arkansas, Ole Miss would have won the West and maybe Alabama gets left out of the playoff

Funny you bring them up, because if LSU or Florida fans are delusional (not so much LSU, but more Florida), Auburn takes the cake for thinking they're way better than they are.

And any SEC program that let Diego Pavia (in his NMSU days) come in and kick their balls in at home....they shouldn't be thinking that's a prominent and prestigious football program at all anymore.

AU may be the most schizo program in the country. I'd say they are certainly a top 20ish program all time, but you're right. A lot of them think they are top 10.

They are the poster child for not having full alignment within the school and AD and probably most importantly, the money folks. Their president and AD not being aligned is how you got Brian Harsin to replace Malzahn, and then a lot of the boosters refused to support them financially right as NIL was becoming a reality. From what I've heard, they seem to be on the same page now and this appears to be the most functional coaching search they've had in my lifetime. This is the school that had a prominent booster fly to Louisville and offer the head coaching job to Bobby Petrino, only to have Tuberville find out and then beat Alabama to keep his job. The last few hires came with a few conditions from boosters on access and control over hires, so I'm still skeptical they are giving that up, but if they do and the new coach is organized, I think AU can at least get back to winning 8-9 games again regularly. But when you're two biggest rivals are in the mix annually for the playoffs, that won't be seen as good enough

I still can't believe there is this much interest in a guy that has never even played for a conference championship.

Weird / gut feel that he stays in Oxford.

How did that NIL spending go for Florida?

Or LSU losing to Vandy?

These 2 schools aren’t in the Georgia or Bama neighborhood…but they and their fans all think they should be.
Bullshit. LSU has the championships to prove it. I don’t know why yall try this.

That 1st sentence is all we need here.

LSU can recruit as good as any program in the country. It's been that way for years. Ain't nobody denying that.

And nobody is saying that it isn't one of the best jobs in the country...no argument here.

But it's not realistic IMO to think the last decade you're Georgia or Bama....the long-term foundation there makes a difference in my mind...JMO

That's why I'm hugely of the belief that if you got a young coach that knows WTF he's doing X's and O's wise....and is also a damn good recruiter ON TOP of a place that is super attractive to 5-stars already......that that would make the program way more dangerous to the program long term.

And you see that avatar? That ain't ever changing....you've been around here for ages, and that Burrow team won me the biggest bet of my lifetime. I hit 80-1s and 45-1s and any other insane numbers that were still hung up when he threw for 450 at Texas on a Sunday night. Made 20k off #9 (all tracked and noted here on CTG during that season BTW)

So I will always have a soft spot for that program until the day I die.

But fuckin A LSU, just get on the same page having BOTH a great football mind for HC to go with the insane recruiting ability there to BR. Then any expectations are warranted.

Patience Grasshopper. Careful what you wish for……..

We get it. Lane sucks. Let him leave then.

The insults by the fan base are unbecoming.
Who is stopping him from leaving? Like Charles I'm a season ticket holder. I have two degrees from Ole Miss. I live in Oxford. We want certainty at this point much more than we want to keep Kiffin.

You've been wrong about easily verifiable facts in multiple posts about this. For example, Ole Miss met with Kiffin on Friday before issuing its public statement. It was widely reported thanks to Kiffin's camp leaking it. Look, one of us isn't speculating in our posts about Kiffin. I will let everyone else figure out who that is.

I had the NMSU money line on that game it was fantastic.

Fair.

If it wasn't Dll there would be a lot better pictures of Briles, of course if it was something bigger than Dll there would be a lot more protest against it. East New Mexico going to test "any publicity is good publicity"?

@Charles0619 and @Grovehard what are you guys hearing out there as far as Lane rumors?

Is he leaning in any direction?

Asking because I know you guys are very dialed in to the program.

Not asking so I can bump it later if you are wrong.

Asking sincerely for your thoughts and what you are hearing.

🤝

He was very evasive during the news conference yesterday and refused to answer questions about his decision making process or if he made a decision. He made some reference to his father Monte moving a lot when he was a kid and said it was all meant to be even though it was hard packing up and moving at each coaching stop his father made. I don’t know if that really means anything, but the general consensus is that he’s likely going to LSU. Still not sure though myself. Lane likely won’t talk to the media again until after the game Friday. Grovehard probably has better info than I do. He’s an Oxford resident- I am just an alum from many moons ago living 3 states away.

Shitty for UNT. Smh.

Morris could have waited. He wasn't going anywhere. Neither was Okie State. Uncharted waters for UNT, one helluva year going on, unlike anything it has ever seen. Okie State had its man and Morris wanted to job. Great. Talk to the school and work out the details after you've finished this run.

Handled in such a shitty fashion.

It really drives home the point of how much the calendar sucks. Sure the portal doesn't officially open until Jan 2 this season but if you haven't done the work in December you've already lost your portal. And now no Spring portal to even clean up that mess if you wait. Can't blame either side for this, it's the game that's currently in play in this sport.

Rece Davis Defends Lane Kiffin’s Right to Finish the Season

Davis didn’t hold back in defending Kiffin’s continued leadership. “I try not to pay any attention to the blowback you get on social media, but a lot of Ole Miss people got upset with what I said on GameDay,” Davis said. “Look, you haven’t won anything in 60 years. So I’m just doubling down on it right now. You haven’t won anything in 65 years.”

While Polymarket has a specific event for Lane Kiffin leaving Ole Miss before the 2026 season (currently with 60% chance), other sportsbooks show that as of late November 2025, odds favor Kiffin to the LSU head coaching job (-200) over Florida (+175). However, his position has fluctuated, and there is still significant uncertainty about his future, as Kiffin's odds for the Florida job were once the highest, and his chance of remaining at Ole Miss was considered low at one point.

Polymarket and other odds
  • Polymarket: As of November 22, 2025, Polymarket had a 60% chance of Lane Kiffin leaving Ole Miss before the season ends. The market also shows a 90% chance of him being out as Ole Miss head coach by January 19, 2026.
  • Other sportsbooks:
    • LSU: In late November 2025, Kiffin was the favorite for the LSU head coaching job at -200, according to BetOnline.ag. Other sportsbooks have his odds as high as +400, with Joe Brady (+200) as the favorite.
    • Florida: Odds had Kiffin at +175 for the Florida job, but this position has shifted, as he has been the favorite in the past with odds of +300.
    • Ole Miss: His odds of remaining with the Ole Miss Rebels were considered a distant third at +600.

Factors influencing odds
  • LSU is considered the likely destination: The recent surge in odds for LSU suggests that they are the frontrunners to secure Kiffin's services, possibly with an unprecedented financial package.
  • Ole Miss's competitive season: Kiffin has led Ole Miss to a 9-1 start and a No. 6 national ranking, which has influenced his odds of remaining at the university, with some reports suggesting Ole Miss is willing to match any offer.
  • Florida's coaching search: The Gators are still searching for a head coach after firing Billy Napier and have considered Kiffin their top target, although LSU has now surged ahead in recent projections.

Interesting one...

CSU entering the P12 too.

If you know me, I love how his teams compete.

CU, CSU are really tough to win at these days. Basically as hippie if not more than the Bay Area at this point. Love to see the offensive mind there, that conference is shaping up to be very fascinating.

Side note, the three D1 schools in Colorado, kinda crazy Air Force has the worst defense. Not that Boulder or Ft Collins are any good at it which is expected but how the Academy is so poor makes no sense.

Surprising to see the slide the last 2 years under Calhoun who makes it easy to root for. And how do we not root for AFA, Army and Navy as Proud Americans? Will next year be his do or die year to turn it around?

I like this hire. The last time UCONN won this many games, I believe Randy Edsall was the HC and Dan Orlovsky was the QB ? Or maybe DJ Hernandez?
2007-2010 they won 8 or 9 each year.

DJ was the QB the first half of that.

Frazer the next two years.

Mora with two 9-win seasons in a row, time to capitalize.

Go do something at CSU and then time to get into the power 4.

Mora was pound for pound one of the best hires in the last 5 years, uconn is likely around umass levels without him. Thought he could get a better job for sure. Fwiw I wouldn’t be surprised if Sammis sticks as HC, he deserves a lot of credit for UConn’s success recently too
