Week 8 NFL Discussion

Carolina off a bye and 4 consecutive straight up losses as an ATS favorite now at home, facing AZ playing a 10am road game off THAT SNF game. That tie is MUCH more dispiriting for AZ than the Seahawks, Cards needed the W a lot more than Seattle. Think it's asking a lot to ask them to go on the road and win a game against a desperate team that isn't as bad as their record.

I like Philly +4.5 initially. I like how their defense can get after it. But Wentz needs to protect the ball better. I give credit to that great Viking defense for creating them. Points will be a premium in this game. Anything over a FG will be huge.

And why doesn't the NFL play till there's a winner? That tie last night was stupid. Play till you have a winner.

Because we should not be subject to that torture for another second. Think about how much has to happen for there to be a tie. Im ok with. Neither team deserved to win. The NFL is becoming a shittier and shittier product as each week goes by.

alright now, i agree with your overall sentiment and i think the ratings show that, but come one, its not roger goodell or the leagues fault that those kickers missed the fgs and the teams played so poorly in what should have been a good NFC West rivalry game. That just sucks.

Its one thing to schedule crap games every Thursday, that is on the league. but the tie isnt.

I just want to know why it was torture? The missed kicks were bad, of course, but is the insinuation that games have to be high scoring to not be torturous? If that's what you're saying, you're just as much of the problem as the NFL itself. Fantasy football has completely ruined people's expectations for sports.

I agree the NFL has become a shittier product, but that's due to their horrid officiating, playing games too often (Thu games), rule changes to make it as offense friendly as they can, rule changes that people still don't understand (catch rule), their public image issues with discipline (or lack thereof), trying to over regulate what happens on the field with celebrations, the horrid officiating, the double speak in the public ALL the time (gambling vs. fantasy football), their horrid officiating, etc, etc.

Posted at blankets, so who knows how accurate it is...

Road teams off a tie are 0-7 SU & ATS, losing by 19.3 PPG

It's accurate since 1989...

Last occurred in 2014. Bengals and Panthers played an OT tie,

Following week both were on the road and lost (Bengals lost 0-27 at Colts and Panthers lost 17-38 at Packers).

Both last night's participants on the road this week.

Both defenses played great last night btw, game was let down by the coaching namely Arians.

Guy starting to be an arrogant fuckstain, wish he'd sat at the podium and took some of the blame himself.

Instead he took it out on the refs and his kicker, he was right to a degree but his role was more significant.

Meanwhile the opposing coach Carroll said he loves his kicker. 'He's our guy', he said.

Its never Roger Goodell's fault. Of course not. Never!

Just continue the sport to countries where it's not played, force teams to travel more while restricting how much they can practice.... while basically ignoring science on the consequences of playing the sport.... and ignore the fact that the talent pool for quarterbacks and running backs is declining. The league isn't responsible but they damn well need to pay attention.

Who in the right mind would want to buy an NFL franchise right now? Not me.

NBA starts tomorrow bro.

The real money maker.

Goodell's league needs an urgent overhaul.

That philly dline is good for sure but that minny gm was just a great matchup for them as oline Vikings biggest weakness. This week their biggest strength will be negated by those road graders in big d. They really haven't seen even a strong rushing attack to date and skins below average attack gashed them.. gotta believe dal controls los from the start and holds significant top edge while zeek and the big uglies maul them into submission.. even if philly offense makes drastic improvement from last 3 where they have struggled badly early in games (which there haven't been many signs this likely) I just don't think they will be able to sustain enough success when their opportunities with the ball become few and far between..

Posted at blankets, so who knows how accurate it is...

Road teams off a tie are 0-7 SU & ATS, losing by 19.3 PPG

Just cause they played 15 extra minutes of fb the week before? Surely something else to it than fatigue? Any theories or simply fatigue?

Is it Possible in most cases both teams walk away feeling like they squandered a winnable game and have bit of hangover? I pose this question cause despite fact sea had chip shot at end of ot I have to believe they are ecstatic to the point this had to feel like a W to them. On road against division rival and get severely outplayed to the point they not only should have lost they should've got blown out! Sea didn't cross midfield till blocked punt for Christ sakes. Had more punts than 1st downs entering ot, more penalties than 1st downs! Offense shouldn't be fatigued cause they were barely on the field. Sea should feel really good today.

Maybe I'm just trying to convince myself but that 0-7 means very little to me when most likely none those 7 were as talented as sea and I'm quite sure none those 7 got to face the disgrace that is the aints defense. This a get right game for what should be a well rested Seattle offense..

Maybe I'm just trying to convince myself but that 0-7 means very little to me when most likely none those 7 were as talented as sea and I'm quite sure none those 7 got to face the disgrace that is the aints defense. This a get right game for what should be a well rested Seattle offense..

How talented is Seattle really though? And why is it "most likely" that none of the other 7 were as talented as Seattle, especially if you're talking about their offense? This isn't some great offense that we're talking about, so it seems odd to assume none of the other 7 teams were as talented as this group. Their defense we know is fantastic, but their offense is nowhere near as talented as their defense. Without Lynch, this team is pedestrian on offense, and without that running game they can count on every game we're all seeing Russ as not much more than an above average game manager, which many people have been saying all along.

Just because they didn't play well vs. Ari also doesn't mean they're "well rested." They played the game, so they certainly aren't rested simply because they didn't move the ball. Just playing devil's advocate, but it certainly does sound like you're trying to convince yourself that Seattle should be a play this week in the face of what we've seen of them thus far this season. They've beaten the Dolphins, 49ers, Jets, and Falcons. They scored 37 pts vs the Niners, which doesn't mean much when TB just lit them up (and most other teams that have faced them), but scored 12 in the Miami win, 27 in the Jets win (again, most teams have lit up the Jets this season), and 26 in the Falcons win (another pretty weak defense). In their loss they scored 3 points, and then just scored 6 this past week. As you mentioned, they are playing the Saints this week, so they certainly could put up some points, but that would seem to be more on the defense than their offense...at least from what we've seen thus far this season.

The well rested thing was just because they barely ever had the ball against Zona. Wasn't serious.. it's 7 teams over how many years?. I have no clue how talented any of them
were I just have a hard time buying it means a whole lot that 7 teams after a tie get destroyed means the hapless saints will win this game..

I don't think lynch all that much better than Michael, the oline more the problem than rb imo and don't see that mattering vs saints. Wilson been banged up and they played lots of good defenses early on, time will tell but he damn sure didn't look like a game manager when he was slicing and dicing league 2nd half of last year. Now graham finalky becoming part of offense, just a matter of time till locket starts stretching field as he gets healthy. Ultimately I think the same I thought bout this team coming into year and that is the potential the passing offense and Wilson started to show last season will continue to evolve into a potent more passing base attack. Poor oline, mix of injuries, and circumstance may have slowed them early on but I still believe it coming and I doubt yesterday's tie game going to influence them more than playing a pushover on a fast track.. don't really gotta convince myself it almost always fade aints or pass, thinking the tie just gave me a better line to do so.

I don't disagree w Seattle probably feeling like they came away with a win in Zona....but that D was on the field for 75% of the game. They could not get off the field. It was amazing. No way they can come back from that, and having to go against a good O in NO.

And Russell Wilson has been playing injured for a while although I think its more that O-line than anything. They are not good.

Lynch not much better than Michael?? Sounds like you are trying to talk yourself into a Sea play cause this is a ridiculous statement. Michael could not even beat out Rawles for the starting job and Lynch is a HOF candidate. Not even close between these two. This is a very good spot for NO, and I don't like NO much at all. Sea is a good team, but not a great team.

Away from Seattle, the Seahawks are blah. (Except for in MetLife. The Seahawks love playing there)

Another post at blankets (so trust it to whatever degree) said that D was on the field for an NFL record 46 odd minutes.

Would expect max effort from Pats this week. They already dropped one to Buff and Rex making those ridiculous comments about someone from NE leaking the starting QB info to him after last game. Couple that with McCoy injury and that spells trouble for the Bills.

Hags' O-line is 5 fat guys plucked from the queue at Arby's.

Agreed. If that's what THE issue is with their offense, then that's what it is. But their offense isn't anywhere near what the insinuation was, and it isn't going to change unless they get a new OL regardless of how talented anyone thinks they are. Russ is a great game manager though.

If you don't have a clue as to how talented any of them are, how can you make the statement that "most likely none of them were as talented as Seattle?" What are you possibly basing it on? Especially given that Seattle's offense isn't really THAT talented to begin with.

And Michael being anywhere near Lynch just leads me to believe you're not only trying to talk yourself into a play on Seattle, but that you're a Seahawks' fan as well.

Issue with the offense is that O-line and Russell's inability to move due to that nagging ankle injury.

If Russ was healthy that offense would improve dramatically.

Again, I don't disagree. The fact they weren't on the field much this past week and "well rested" isn't going to be the reason for some offensive breakout was the only point. He said he thought he may be trying to talk himself into a play, and it certainly seems that he was (as 3 people have told him as much).

Stopping the other team wins football games, doesn't matter how 'rested' your offense is.

While the Seattle o line is bad their biggest issue is Wilson having no mobility. His ability to run and bootleg is what makes the offense so dynamic, until that comes back they won't reach their full potential.

The offense being well rested was just a joke about how badly they were dominated in Zona and I agree with everyone their defense will have a very hard time recovering after being on the field so much Sunday night.. I'm moved on from even considering sea other than probably still taking them in pools. The over does interest me but that pretty much goes for every saints home game.

Only play I have made thus far is bucs-1. Oak in about bad a situation as sea traveling b2b weeks for early game in Florida.

Once I realized the skins/Cincy gm wasn't in Cincy the skins got on my radar. Think bungals have fallen off from previous years, still wouldn't play against them in Cincy but on a nuetral I think the better team dogged.

Oakland stayed in Florida. They're not traveling

I've backed the Pats the past few weeks but division road game laying a TD, pass. They've shown vulnerability this year. They should've buried Pitt last week.
