Way to early look at 2018 Strength of Schedule

I would assume a big basis is prior years record.

This would be one reason that some SEC teams are lower as well. They do not play as many conference games and have that extra 'slop' game(in some cases).

If you look at toughest divisions in the country right now, the BIG 10 East is most likely the toughest division there is (kinda how SEC West was few years back). So, for example...

#7 Indiana

They play the entire East Division

Their crossover games are Iowa, Purdue and Minnesota.

Then, their OOC includes Virginia (FIU and BSU as well).

In comparison

#63 Clemson

They play two OOC exhibitions and miss VT/Miami in conference. Otherwise, it is a very average schedule.

------------------------------------------

Just using those examples. Obviously teams differ from year to year.

It is a fun point of discussion to get the ball rolling for next year. Obviously PR's etc will determine SOS much better as the off-season moves forward.

Fwiw, this is an SEC writer that manufactured this.

The B1G Schedule is always funny since they changed it so many times the past 7-10 years but this year coming up for crossover games...

All East teams get 2 home/ 1 road

All West teams get 1 home/ 2 road

(I believe this flip-flops every year but am not positive)

Anyways, lets rank these schedules easiest to toughest for crossovers by division...

East

Team A: @ Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin
Team B: Minnesota, @ Purdue, Nebraska
Team C: Northwestern, Purdue, @ Nebraska
Team D: Nebraska, @ Northwestern, Wisconsin
Team E: Illinois, Northwestern, @ Wisconsin
Team F: Minnesota, @ Iowa, Illinois
Team G: Iowa, @ Minnesota, Purdue

West

Team H: @ Michigan, Rutgers, @ Penn State
Team I: Michigan, @Michigan St, @ Rutgers
Team J: @ Indiana, Maryland, @ Penn State
Team K: @ Michigan, @ Ohio State, Michigan State
Team L: @ Maryland, @ Ohio State, Indiana
Team M: Ohio State, @ Michigan St, @ Indiana
Team N: Penn State, @ Rutgers, @ Maryland

The East seems to be pretty even on prospective forecasting. The West sudden influx of coaching talent should make the West very competitive.

Looking at Days schedule, either me or the politically correct fanbade are going to be eating crow. I like what Taggert had done on the D side of the ball, but I am not sold on the gimmicky style of offense.

How many midmajors in the top 60 sos there?

It is called a self fulfilling prophecy.
The gift that keeps on giving. This business is as corporate as it gets. Keep the low man down in the basement so you can't hear him scream.
