USMNT THREAD

Wow, really...he is right behind altidore as a second striker...I do hate his stepover shit, but he is better than wondo and Gomez, and I don't mind him out wide because of his speed

Barring an injury he will be in the top 23, though there is that Guy from Finland that decide to play for usa..rumor is solid, would be second beat strikerr behind altidore

unless that letter from the Finnish FA which basically does everything but threaten his family turns his back

will be interesting to see how Jozy does this year, seems like such a confidence guy that playing in the dutch league scoring goals rather than the step up in England (he was atrocious his last run) and struggling might end up being bad for the world cup

agreed, you can be made to look like a star when you are playing in an offensive league and a very free flowing team like AZ. Not too sure Sunderland is the type of club he should join. He'll be just like Kenwayne Jones, big dude but irrelevant.

you have the link for the finnish player, haven't heard he is getting pushback.

I'm also a little worried about Altidore. He is a better and more mature player than his last stint in England, so hopefully things workout

Iceland my bad

Statement from KSÍ – Aron Jóhannsson should play for IcelandStatement from KSÍ regarding Aron Jóhannsson
Aron Jóhannsson is an Icelander born in the USA in 1990 where he lived in the first years of his life. Aron’s parents are Icelandic. Aron got his soccer education under the KSÍ umbrella, with Fjölnir, where he played all the junior years (with a short stay with Breiðablik) and then played for their full team, before joining AGF in Denmark on September 1st 2010.
Aron Jóhannsson played 10 international matches for Iceland U21 in 2011 and 2012. Of these 10 games 8 of them were in UEFA competitions and Aron was a starter in each of them.
FIFA allows players to changes national sides once if they fulfill certain criteria, even if they have played with junior national sides, as long as they have not played an official A team match. One of the conditions allows players to switch to a country they were born in if they wish to represent it.
Aron has for the past year been unable to answer a call-up to the Iceland National Team from the national coach due to injuries. During that same time, news filtered through that the US Men National Team coach was interested in the player. Aron has no link to soccer in the USA at all.
Yesterday a statement from Aron was published where he expressed his desire to play for the USMNT. The only thing that has been pointed out to KSÍ from an interested party, is that his income potential, as a USA player, is much greater, both in the form of grants and sponsorship, than if he were an Iceland player. It is simply so that an Iceland National team member must play for land and country and for that they get honor and glory.
It is the utmost wish of KSÍ that Aron turns back on his ideas to change national teams. Aron is an Icelander through and through who we need in the tough international competitions. Aron has already played 10 U21 matches for Iceland and his future belongs there. Hopefully the public and media will respond and challenge Aron to continue competing for Iceland. KSÍ has already requested for Aron to participate in the next national team match vs. the Faroe Islands on August 14th.
There is no logic behind Aron relinquishing his Icelandic soccer identity.

thanks, yeah my bad I thought it was finland.

Interesting, wonder if anything changes with him. Wonder how much Jurgen had to do in this whole thing

Berk Shea down with what appears to be a serious knee injury on a dirty tackle...2 midfielders gone in 3 days, great

Is brek shea really a loss?

The only 3 I think have a big gap between themselves and a backup are the 3 braves mentioned above with landon as a 4th probably

brek shea can be exciting but yeah i dont think he's much of a loss, not even sure he was going to make the team.

still hate for him to get injured.

He played in every key game in the gold cup, he isn't a starter but he an asset with his pace to slot in late in a game...I think he would have had a real good chance at making the team based on his speed alone..not as big as a loss as Holden, but more options are now gone, unless the injury isn't as severe as being reported

Altidore, Donovan, Bradley, Jones, Dempsey, zusi(probably, tho could see Fabian or Eddie playing outside....no clue on defense, Howard in goal

Agree w/ this, he had the chance to improve a lot at Stoke. Could see him not making a roster but could see him being an impact sub in the WC based on how the next year went

When US international Oguchi Onyewu signed with English Championship side Queens Park Rangers this week, one tidbit of news that was seemingly overlooked was what USMNT manager Jurgen Klinsmann reportedly told QPR manager Harry Redknapp: The Gooch was "almost certainly" going to be with the US squad in Brazil.
Speaking to the UK press about the Onyewu signing, Redknapp related a recent conversation he had with Klinsmann about his new centerback.
"Jurgen Klinsmann rung me about him, to recommend him," Redknapp said. "He said he's going to be probably, almost certainly in his squad for the World Cup. And really he's a big fan of his. He likes him very much. [Onyewu] needs to go and play somewhere because [Klinsmann] wants him for the World Cup."

Onyewu has also struggled to get consistent minutes with his recent clubs. He has made only 27 league appearances since leaving Standard Liege in 2009

Harry says a lot of things whenever he signs someone, always wants it to be a steal

people may not know this, but he's a bit of a wheeler dealer

speaking of the USMNT

how bad a mistake was going to the PL for Jozy, guy needs to go back to Holland and never leave

that what I was thinking , and it's not like Jurgen is going to come out and say it is not true . He has to keep his options open

I'll give it up more time , but looks like a mistake. Team sucks, and a lot of time he is up top with the ball and no support. I think he is playing fairly well, had a real good game yesterday....But yeah, he needs to score goals get his confidence up, and it just does not look like it is going to happen at Sunderland.

AMSTERDAM – United States national team boss Jurgen Klinsmann has confirmed that Bayern Munich II wing sensation Julian Green has accepted a call-up to November's European camp.
As reported by German tabloid Bild, the 18-year-old Tampa native will be with the team as they prepare for friendlies against Scotland and Austria. Green recently made his competitive debut for Germany's Under-19 national team, meaning he cannot play in either match and will require a FIFA allegiance switch to do so in the future.
"Julian Green is a tremendous talent," said Klinsmann in a statement provided by U.S. Soccer. "We have been scouting him for more than two years, and we are thrilled to bring him into our camp and introduce him to the senior team program. We believe we could help him grow into a special player."

Green, who scored in his lone friendly appearance for the US U-18s last September, was also on Tab Ramos' provisional roster for this past summer's FIFA U-20 World Cup.
The youngster made quite an impression on Bayern head coach Pep Guardiola this preseason, hitting consecutive hat tricks in their first two warm-up matches against German mites. He currently has 13 goals, good for second on the Regionalliga Bayern scoring chart, for his fourth-division reserve side.

not a ton, he came on a lot in the past year and Bayern fans really seem to like him

didn't struggle switching from the u18 to the u23 (Bayern II) team at all so far, looks like he has a lot of potential, may get some subs appearances this year for the main club

smart move too, even if he reaches his potential he has a decade of Reus/Goetze/Muller in front of him

yah these kids need to be groomed abroad only problem is they then have a choice to not play for the likes of the US or Canada.
But then again who the fuck wants to play for Canada, won't do shit.

Bayern youth system is top notch, I believe he's playing in the UEFA Youth League team too.
