The St Louis Rams Draft Thread.

i dunno, if someone offered me half a mil to follow me around with some cameras I'd be good with it.

JFF has been filming commercials for months.. how is this that different?

You're probably right that it's not much different than what JFF has been doing. I think the reason most people have an issue with it is due to what he said when he first came out about it not being about him, and him wanting to be known as a football player as opposed to a Yag football player. This show is pretty much doing the opposite of what he said initially, and then kept saying leading up to the draft.

sure, the dude wants to be known as a football player, and not just a Yag football player, but lord have mercy if this isn't a historically significant situation, and having a camera around to document this situation feels appropriate from here. i'm sure he'd love for his sexuality to not be an issue, but today in the NFL, it sure as hell is. from what i'm hearing the cameras won't be anywhere near the rams facility, it's gonna be more about him and his boyfriend. maybe what he said originally was dumb, or he didn't know that oprah was around the corner with a few dollars from her purse, or he changed his mind because he's young as hell and in a situation that's new to everyone. also, i'd be trying to get as much money as possible as quickly as possible. but i have no soul.

gotta figure there's a couple Yag teenagers that will get some real life benefits from this dude's journey.

The folks at 345 Park Avenue may have some explaining to do to one of the 32 men who own 345 Park Avenue.

According to Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the NFL knew that Michael Sam had struck a deal for a documentary to be televised on Oprah Winfrey’s OWN network before the draft. But the NFL reportedly didn’t share that information with the league’s teams.
Per the report, the Rams learned of the situation on Sunday, one day after making Sam the 249th overall pick in a 256-selection draft. It’s impossible to know with any degree of certainty what the Rams would have done if they’d known, but the information that was kept from the Rams and the rest of the league surely would have at least been a factor.
While the Rams surely will continue to say and do all the right things both publicly and privately about Sam and everything that goes along with having the first openly Yag NFL player on the team, the franchise’s decision-makers probably are feeling more than a little miffed that relevant information was deliberately kept from them. And rightfully so.
Rams coach Jeff Fisher told Dan Patrick on Monday that the NFL did nothing to encourage the team to take Sam. The report from Strauss shows that the league was careful not to do anything that may dissuade a team from picking him.

oh shit.

So every time the Rams are mentioned on TV it's going to start with Michael Sam? That's what's wrong. I want to know the progression of Greg Robinson, Aaron Donaldson and the other higher picks.
Whether Sam makes this team or not? I feel Sam won't make this team. Too 1 dimensional. 1 dimensional players in this league will get exploited. Too slow to play special teams. I think once the honeymoon is over, he's cut. Fisher won't have a distraction and that's all this is. Michael Sam will end up elsewhere or just out entirely.

You guys are cynical, and overestimating America's attention span. This story will drift away like that lost plane. If he gets cut it will be a new story, or if he makes the team it will be a new story. In the latter case, the story will swell up when the regular season opens. In any case, all stories will go away. Most of America's OK with a Yag football player, so most of America will get bored with the story, and the coverage of the Yag angle will go away. Let him have his day in the sun, it's pretty historic. I remember most of the forum applauding the NBA guy, and he came out in the twilight of his career. Not quite as courageous. If it was calculated, that sure is an odd way for the SEC defensive player of the year to get some attention.

You probably have had quite enough already, wise, you're in the eye of the storm.

That would suck, wise. also, it looks like the NFL is calling that PFT story bullshit. either way, I'd rather hear about the early picks as well if I were a rams fan. I hear ya

Oprah deal postponed. Michael Sam better have his head on right if he wants any chance because this ain't college. Stay tuned.

I am thinking he knows his NFL career will be short/if at all and he wants to cash out

Historical event??? Compared to what?

It will be an historical event when a super star athlete comes out. Until then, yawn

Michael Sam has a 10% chance to make this team and I think I'm being generous. Generous because there are injuries which could help him otherwise he's too slow and too 1 dimensional.
Looking forward to watching the rest of the talent we've picked up.
