The 2025 Masters Tournament Discussion Thread

Well, Rory goes double bogey, par, double bogey to give back 4 strokes. He was in cruise control until hole 15.

Exceptionally a tough track resulting in big swings i.e Rors Deki etc.

This game is funny, play like dog shit for 2-3 tourneys in a row and be top 20 at the Masters i.e Fits. Play solid golf for the month of March and have good history here and shit your pants, i.e. Henley

Preparation and seizing the moment I suppose

Live at the masters- Rose averages 72.79 after rd1, 10 entries minimum. He also has best rd.1 scoring average, 10 min. Have a look at his rd.2 scores historically.

Mention this in case you’re thinking a 2nd rd under 72.5 -140 is a cake walk. I know I was considering it. Sucker bet likely

Good news for rose is an early start, might just roll straight into form. Staying away and looking elsewhere, at the guys floating around par.

Birdie/birdie finish for Conners is what I'd like if I'm looking for a hot round tomorrow

2-4 -.3u Rd.1. One 5u play pending and it’s likely dead.

Only a 1/3 of the field shot par or better and I don’t know any better than to play these. Early rd.2 plays-

An under 72.5 +105 5u (DK)
Bechambeau under 71.5 -155 5u (DK)

GL on your plays

Definitely can see a 71-72, but equally see some unlucky bounces, 1-2 missed putts, shooting a 73

MGM has 72 or better -110 now
Interesting notes.

We saw Scottie and MW two weeks ago both shoot 62 and follow it with -1 and -2 rounds.

So tough.

BOL odds on this group (for shits n giggles)

Rose 750
Connors 1500
Sheff 230
Aberg 550
Hatton 2500
Bryson 800
Rai 9000
English 10000
Day 5500
Bhatia 4500

Rai isn't hitting 14/14 fairways again but he's a darn good player -- still pass

Day at that # might be worth a thought.

Same with Hatton.

Bhatia has the game for this course as well.

The English # is absurd.

Connors is always in it, but eventually the putter will fail him.

If we're following trends, I wouldn't mind a stab on Day, English, Bhatia and maybe Hatton. I'd prob want a bit more value on Tyrell.

With that being said, this is still Scottie's tournament. I'm just capping a few things for fun. I'm going to deep dive into those few guys and see if I should make a small investment.

Isn’t Augusta the course Bryson said is a par 68? This course used to be a real mind fuck for him. However, he seems to be in a better place mentally nowadays…
Yep!

Or was it par 67? That doesn't make sense.

Anyways...

He's come of age on that comment though.

Avoid the bogies and he'll be right there.

A lot of people want to think he doesn't fit well here. I disagree and have bet him this year. We shall see.

Couple of stat notes ...

Connors was 5th in putting. Obviously that's abnormal. If he keeps that up, he wins.

Sergio 3rd in approach but nearly dead last in putting.

Fleetwood also putted very poorly but was solid elsewhere.

Edit: Reed gets the putter going like it should be can get into contention. Feels like a guy that sneaks up there.

Anyone talk me out of Ashkay -110 vs Hovland?

Lean English +105 vs Rai as well.

Harman +100 vs Pendrith has the feels as well.

Looking at the Over/Unders... Only Scottie and Luddy are in the sixties. Interesting. A lot of leans here but nothing strong enough to play let.

Feedback on the matches much appreciated!

Hovland is starting to show glimpses of previous form. Bhatia paired with Aberg and Rory, that has to be intimidating. Seven birdies opening round, I think he may “bounce” and revert to a more average type of day. Not saying I’d bet hovland in this spot, I would personally just pass.

Rai and English both played really well, I don’t see how I could lean one way or the other here.

Definitely like the Harman side, but I kind of liked Pendrith coming into the week. Still have a live bet with him…

Just my 2 cents…

Good luck with your plays!

Round 2 only:

Smith +115 vs Zalatoris: I watched quite a bit of Will’s round on the masters website. I may be wrong, but he was swinging like he’s not 100% healthy. Also noticed his head moving quite a bit while putting. He’s a top tier player in my opinion when healthy, but I’m questioning it. I don’t watch liv so can’t speak on how Cam has been playing, but to only hit 6/18 gir and still shoot under par is pretty remarkable. Always loved his putting stroke, matched up with a guy who in my opinion looks questionable health wise (very iffy with the putter Thursday), and throw in he’s a sizable dog, sign me up.

Fade or follow, good luck with your plays.

Wind much higher today, worsening as the day goes. Slight edge to early groups. Average score rd.1 73.81. Projected cut @ +1, probably +2 by the end of day.

Not loving my early rd.2 plays as line moved in opposite direction 5-10 cents. We’ll see about buying out.

In April of 1992 I was 10 years old. I was sitting Indian style on the floor on sandy carpet at my grandfather's cabin on Hubbard lake. My mother took my sister and I up there at least one weekend a month as my grandfather was seasonal between there and Florida. I'll never forget how every Sunday I was up there as a child and a tournament was on my grandpa would sit in his lazy boy recliner and watch golf. Mostly nap, but watch golf. He an my uncles would go every morning if they were up at the cabin but I was never allowed to go. This particular Sunday in April I watched my grandfather literally at the edge of his seat watching the masters. Freddy was his favorite golfer and he was going absolutely bananas. My grandfather rarely smiled but his grin was from ear to ear. That next week I showed interest in golf and my mother grabbed me a 50 dollar mixed bag from a garage sale that spring. The rest is history. I used to attach my golf clubs to my walking cart behind my huffy(before my schwinn) and tote my clubs 1/2 a mile to beech woods driving range down the street. I've told the story here about the pings I swung for almost 18 years that were my grandfathers. I passed them down to a guy on my league last year that just started even though others offered me hundreds of dollars for the clubs. It wasn't about the money. I was lucky enough to play 2 rounds with my grandfather before he died. In those two rounds he made sure he told me and explained every single rule of golf and I love him every round for it. My game is finally good enough to take him now. The younger generation will never know. Thank you for the unbelievable memories I was shocked by remembering Freddy and I hope to see you play this weekend. Jesus what a game.

Best post of the week.

Thanks for sharing brother.

I guess everyone has golfers they can't stand to watch...Justin Rose is easy maybe 1 or 2 for me.

I don't know why, but I always feel watching him is like watching paint dry. Just bores me to tears. Hoping someone else makes a real run here or he cools down.
