Super Bowl - Patriots V. Seahawks Discussion

Did you know Dick Hammer, aka “The Marlboro Man” is Sam Darnold’s grandfather? No bullshit. Back when men were men, and sheep were scared.
Take that little tidbit of information to your Super Bowl party and impress your friends.
Dick Hammer. Great name!

Small world , some of his relatives live here in WNY, one of which is a teacher at my son's school ....Dick Hammer was a starting guard on the 1953-54 USC trojans tournament that made it to the final 4 ... He also played volleyball in the 1964 Olympics , the first year that volleyball was an Olympic sport . Stepped away from acting on the show Emergency ( believe he was only on for a partial season) to go back to being a firefighter.

Yeah, if there was ever a man that needed to be The Marlboro Man, he was it.

I'm surprised you replied to such a toxic masculine post!

A quarterback could have just kneeled down every time and covered the spread against New England last week, and Darnold/Seattle's offense are obviously way more dangerous than Denver with its journeyman QB. So New England will have to do a much better job offensively. Three offensive points won't do. I do think the Patriots will have an easier time on offense in this game because Seattle's pass rush (13th in sack rate) is not Denver's (first in sack rate) or Houston's (fifth in sack rate). Maye facing pressure due to his o-line has been a decisive factor, and this matchup works in his favor.

Houston furniture store owner Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale has $2 million to win $4 million riding at Caesars Sportsbook on the New England Patriots to win the Super Bowl over the Seattle Seahawks.

This spread is absolute crazy town. Team with the better QB, the better coach.

Seattle faced a D playing 9th string LB and am overrated Rams defense…New England has numbers that on paper are putrid if you don’t consider a complete downpour game and a solid half of a blizzard game against 2 of the top 3 defenses in the league.

Praying for the ultimate middle so Sam can get his SB and I cover all at the same time.

But the absolute insanity ignoring one team has maybe the best HC in the league who has been there multiple times before….and maybe the best OC in the league who has been there before….facing a HC who has never been there before and doesn’t know a way that might be best to prep for this spot….and that’s not even reflecting this is a team and scheme that years ago Sam saw ghosts out there against….i just don’t get it this number.

If Seattle wins by 21, I’ll gladly say they earned my money…but as a Jets fan…maybe I’m just expecting that uniform to play to a next level like they always do in this game.

But the icing on the cake is the fact that everyone of the ESPN experts is on Seattle . That’s all I need to see to make me even more comfortable to place a huge ass wager taking the points.

Rams 9th sting LB? There was not a LB out for the Rams.

Mike Vrabel as "maybe the best HC in the league" is a stretch when I'm not sure he's the best head coach in this game

He did coach for 6 years in Tennesee. 4 of which had competent QB play, Derrick Henry and AJ Brown

I would have taken Seattle up to 7. I'll gladly come back and say I was wrong if it goes otherwise. Im not looking at the playoffs. Im looking at a body of work over 20 weeks. Seattle has a better team across the board. Vrabel's a HC who has been there before? Must have missed that game. We are going to evaluate Darnold vs. a scheme 5+ years ago on while on a shit team? But not on his teams being 30-7 the last two seasons? Idk.. I would be flat out stunned if the Pats went in and won and just dominated the action. The only way they win is off multiple turnovers.

@Capaholic That's a major stretch to put Mac in the same class as Vrabel....the guy had a 10-point lead in an AFC championship at your house before reality sunk in that KC was just a dominant team on another level. He outcoached BB in TB's final playoff game at Foxboro as a big dog. The guy knows how to prepare a team for the playoffs.

If Stafford makes one pass on the 1st and goal, the narrative is totally changed IMO.

But I'm good agreeing to disagree.....I know the world thinks Seattle in a blowout and I'll pay to see it. But I'm not going to pretend I won't be taking the points...the ML and alts. I don't think you can handicap intangibles and I think NE has a huge edge there.

And i HATE the Patriots...and love Sam, so my loyalties are nowhere near a Pats homer being a Jets fan. Like I said, if I'm wrong, they've rightfully earned my money. We shall see though, my friend.

The world might be thinking it but every dumbfuck bartender and patron love to be sharp around here. No one is on Seattle. It's bananas.

I give you credit for at least having a principled approach to it as much as I disagree at least. I think Darnold is superior to Maye. I think the Seattle defense is superior to NE. I think both are insanely well coached. I predicted this matchup a bunch of weeks ago and now predict Seattle by 18 but that would never be a wager unless it becomes one mid game. Very possible NE keeps it close or wins but I don't see many ways that happens. If Maye was on the Jets he'd be worth a 6th rounder at best in trade. Good....but not really good.

Everyone I talk to here in Buffalo thinks that New England is a lock ...They all hate the Patriots but think there is some everlasting Boston magic.
Always joke with them saying , TB12 isn't there anymore , Bellicheat isn't stealing calls , taping practices , and deflating balls , and ref Tony the Fixer Corrente has retired..

Think the Hawks win by 2+ scores ...Also think the Rams would have done the same ...

9 squares left. Come get one or four.

“The cleaning guy at work loves Seattle. My chiro says they look strong.”

= no one is on New England.

Everyone trying to be sharp.

Stick to the known consensus sites and %s.

I understand your point ...It's valid

Just odd here

About 99% of the football fans in Buffalo HATE the Patriots lol ...You normally can stand by the ticket windows and listen to almost every bettor FADE them before stand alone games...Strange that all of a sudden it's flipped to where at least 60 bettors I've talked to since last weekend all love New England in the bowl .

Does it amount to anything ?? NO , of course the Pats could win , and possibly win big. Just strange that's all, was expecting the usual blindly fade the hated Pats brigade.

Man I don't have the stones to book 'em but I don't know one person on Seattle

Everyone is trying to be "sharp" lol....man the SB always delivers a story line at least

Seattle -4.5 you could sell for a cheap cocktail right now

I’m leaning Pats plus the points I guess.

Underdog performance in Super Bowl has been a real thing lately and I like the experience of the Vrabel/McDaniels coaching side.

Kendall Jenner has made her pick and enjoy your 100% boost on Fanatics tailing her with NE ML +190

This is shaping up to be Joes vs wannabe Joes

Where's @Joe Public in all of this?

It's crazy

Everyone thinks they are being sharp lol

I don't even like the line really but the dbags all around are chirping

Fanatics punted the LSU gymnast chick for Kendall Jenner and she's on NE ML fwiw

At least she's the hot one of the Kardashian clan

Maybe regional alotta Seattle love down here amongst punters….

I like SEA myself…are we gonna get the SEA ML and NE cover?

Could be regional for sure

Virtually every bartender I know wants to put the mortgage on NE. I seriously have met maybe one random dude at the bar that "thinks" Seattle is the play lol

Absolutely meant for live betting

Patriots D has been solid this postseason but they haven'y been properly tested.

Gonzalez is very good. JSN is uncoverable.

Walker is running the ball very well.

Darnold doesn't have to be superman.

I will be on Hawks ATS

I may also be on Hawks tt over

I think this could be a close game to start but Hawks D isn't going to fold up and will give Sea a short field once or twice, maybe even pts of their own....

Did not know this was Tirico's first Super Bowl. Took 60 of them to get there.

Such a good pxp guy, putting aside his handsy nature.

It's getting weird, like so many sharp v square types trying hard and I doubt that people booking this game are having much fun with it

Rare in this game we get to say it but how bad did linesmakers screw up by making the NFC a 2.5 favorite over the AFC before 'ship weekend? Now they're stuck at 4.5 and we all know a move to 5 or 5.5 means nothing other than random people think it means something. Bringing 6 in to play exposes so much more risk, think they pretty much have to hold at 4.5 and hope at this point. It's not moving down unless someone wants to get cute.

Yeah even if Pats blew out the Donks and looked impressive and doing so - winner of NFC was going to at least achieve and look good so coming out with a win. Minimum the game could have ever been was 3 and that’s still unlikely. 2.5 was a gift value wise.

In those L37 games with Darnold going 30-7 the opposing team averaged 18.5 ppg. Darnold's team went 25-11-1 ATS against an average line of -3.4 and averaged 27 ppg.

The OU went 18-19. When Darnold's team scored 26 or fewer: 1-15 OU. When Darnold's team scored 27+ the OU went 17-4.

I am just looking at this sample of Darnold games for the first time. But what kinda sticks out more is the D (that's what she said)

During that same time Drake Maye games have gone 20-13 SU and 19-13-1 ATS

When Pats scored 22 or fewer: 3-11 SU and 3-10-1 ATS. When Pats scored 23 or more: 17-2 SU and 16-3 ATS. Pats defense allowed an average of 21 ppg in those thirty three games

Josh McDaniel NFL asst coach of the year. Would have been a good hire for a team like the Raiders with a young QB coming in.

No hesitation in pulling the trigger on Seattle. Better defense and special teams. Maye has been just mediocre in the playoffs. Getting pressured hasn't helped him- sacked 15 times in those games. And the ruthless defense he's facing Sunday isn't the best one to try and right a ship that’s been wayward. Seahawks have won nine straight and the last three were against some of the best teams in the league while New England skated through a soft schedule as we know.

No need to overthink things. 27-16

All good points and those on the Seahawks are probably right as the line and stats suggests. I'm on the Patriots +5.5 -125. Not much difference between 4.5 and 5.5 but Seahawks are known to finish on funny totals, kinda like the steelers so happy to buy the extra point. They didn't prove much in the playoffs but just think they'll figure out a way to keep it within the number.

GL on the big game.
