Super Bowl Discussion Rams vs Pats @Atlanta Stadium

I also give Goff and OL credit for dealing with deliriously loud, whistling fans. That was SO hard. I think Goff has a lot of Brady in him.

Which is still too low. 12 is going to dismantle that Rams secondary that Big Dick Nick Foles picked apart. BB 2 weeks to prepare for Jared Goff, a banged up Gurley and 500-pound CJ Anderson.

Fuck my life.
Devils advocate. Why didnt brees then?

Fair rebuttal, and devil's advocate is one of my favorite games TBH.

9 isn't 12. That's where I'll start. Brady is Brady...we know that. But while everyone and their mother is going on (and fairly so) about the non-penalty...Drew Brees was flat out PUTRID the second half and OT yesterday. The Ginn 43 yard pass was a ball that should have been intercepted. The play of the non-PI, if the defender turns and plays the ball could have taken it for a pick 6. Brees and his decisions yesterday were absolutely garbage in the 2nd half. Brady's 3rd and 10 conversion THREE times in OT outside on the road in 5 degree wind chill, is proof further that 12 is insanely good beyond comprehension.

But most importantly...Coaching

Everybody loves McVay and rightly so...the kid is a genius offensive mind and will be in this league for 30 years.

But...

The gameplan yesterday by the Patriots was absolutely on another planet outstanding.

Chiefs and all those pass rushers...they were silent yesterday. One of the most hidden secrets of what the Pats success has been (beyond 12 and Hoodie) is that they have a guy few people talk about and is one of the greatest position coaches ever in the history of the league.

Belichick got his retired offensive line coach, Dante Scarnecchia to come out of retirement in 2016. DS was on the Pats staff as their O Line coach from 2000 - 2013...how did that Pats O Line look yesterday?

Point being is that they have coaches in multiple areas that are damn near brilliant in taking away the strength of the other team.

How'd Tyreek Hill look yesterday? The Chiefs pass rush?

Pats let Nate Solder go to the Giants this past offseason their LT...got 70 Mill from the Giants and got his ass whooped all year.

This Pats O Line has guys drafted as follows: 7th round, 3rd round, UDFA, 4th round, 5th round (going from LT to RT)

They can scheme for anything the opponent can do. They can counter and in-game adjust for anything they see.

New England and its staff is so far ahead of the curve that they're going to be able to limit the damage Donald and Suh can do...and then if you let Brady attack a zone scheme....see the Chargers game for the results.

They took Tyreek out of the game , and still almost lost . That’s how great the Chiefs offense is . Rams just aren’t as dynamic , especially without Kupp

still almost lost because they hemorrhaged 10 points with the pick and the 4th down failure

McVay has a long way to go before he’s BB. Has nothing to do with the defense and runs one offensive formation. Essentially makes a living rushing his team to the line and talking to his qb via headset up till 15 seconds. Smart. But not sustainable.

Maybe no BB...but he's damn good and extremely innovative offensively.

I think the Pats are getting a little too much love here. They really can’t throw a pass over 12 yards. 1 on 1 with Gronk is the only option for a deep pass. And he is a shell of his former self. Seems like an easy defensive scheme for a team that can’t throw deep. They are a good team and they could easily win but they might be getting a little too much love here. The line for most of the season has been NFC -3. That basically changed 6 points because of the Patriots last two games. People forgot the rest of the season

Not to mention a little luck in the AFC champ game.

Dee Ford lining up 4inches offside
Edelman debacle
Roughing the passer call
Coin flip

So Martie. If I understand you correctly you believe that it would be easy for you to draw up the schemes that would stop an ineffective Pats offense? One that is incapable of getting more than 12 yards? So far they have put up 43 and 37 in the playoffs and could have easily put up 14 more in the divisional round. And you think they got lucky in the AFC champ game. You and I must have been watching a different game. They put up 37 offensively and held Hill to a catch and 42 yards. Shut Kelce down entirely and confused the eventual MVP who just broke about every record for a QB. And you think the Pats got lucky?

Furthermore did you watch what Edelman and Gronk were doing when they weren’t catching passes. They were blocking in such an effective manner that Michel and Burkhead were getting some nice chunks of yardage. Or keeping the D off Brady. Rams may compete and could win no doubt, solid team but I suspect that dislike of the Pats is the motivator for your comments not unbiased capping

This game turns entirely on two things: the effectiveness of the Rams D line to generate pressure and whether the Gurley from weeks 1-13 shows up. Without those the Rams have no shot, with both it could be Giant killers part 3.

If Roger can reverse the call in the Saints game, couldn’t he also reverse the roughing the passer call against Brady? Let’s re-play the 4Q of both these games! Would be epic.

Im holding a Pats future. Feel good about it myself.

Nuggets from ESPN Chalk, always a good read:

• MGM took a "truckload" of New England money on Sunday night, including a $115,000 wager on Patriots -1.5 (-110) and a $110,000 bet at Patriots -1 (-110).
• William Hill US took a $63,750 wager on Patriots -2 (-110) on Sunday night. It would net $57,954.55.

$2.4 billion: The amount bet on the Super Bowl at Nevada's regulated sportsbooks since 1991.

Good info. So on average books make about 7 percent over all on SB wagers. Makes sense with -110 on spreads and higher juice on props. Not surprised it’s hard for them to lose because of the massive volume.

Great post especially re: Scarnecchia.

Part of the defensive scheming might’ve been the beer talking. I do not believe it would be easy. Easier without a deep threat I guess is what I should say.

And I do believe they were definitely lucky/fortunate (whatever you wanna call it) for a lot of the 4th/OT. Example: I consider winning a coin flip luck and not skill. Neither defense was stopping the other team at that point in the game.

The point spread has been NFC -3 almost the entire season. Oddsmakers had NFC favored for every outcome except maybe a pk for Rams/Chiefs. So why all of a sudden is the line SO FAR off and such lop-sided Pats betting?
