Baltimore's last 39 games of offense -

11, 2, 9, 2, 5, 7, 5, 7, 10, 3, 10, 6, 8, 5, 7, 1, 1, 5, 7, 11, 1, 8, 8, 1, 1, 5, 6, 5, 13, 7, 3, 10, 3, 4, 5, 3, 4, 9 & 9 run totals.

_7 totals of 0-2 runs.
_6 totals of 3-4 runs.
26 totals of 5+ runs.

Their current 14 game streak of scoring at least 3 runs is their best this season.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Baltimore has gone 63 games without posting consecutive Under results. They are 41-18-4 to Over during this period, and are 15-0-2 to Over off their last 17 Under results.

They play Sunday off an Under result on Saturday.

Definately playing cards at plus number.. Carp on the mound with momentum, rested bullpen . If ankiel in lineup, much better play:smiley_acbe:

Several others to look at.. Nice looking card IMO

Since July the 6th, the Chicago Cubs are...

- 17-2 SU in games which they score at least 3 runs (14-5 to Over)

- 0-9 SU in games which they score 2 runs or less (8-1 to Under)

Capping a side for their games has been as "easy" as simply concerning yourself with how their offense will go.

Some player news:

8/9/2008 Ryan Braun, LF (Mil) Braun was pulled from the Brewers' game against Washington on Saturday night because of tightness in his lower back. There was no immediate word on the seriousness of the injury. Braun struck out in the first inning, spiking his helmet into the ground as Ray Durham was thrown out at second attempting to steal for a double play.

Analysis: Braun is batting .300 with a team-high 30 home runs and 84 RBIs in 114 games.

8/9/2008 Jose Contreras, SP (CWS) Contreras ruptured his left Achilles' tendon and left Saturday's game against the Boston Red Sox in the second inning. With two outs and a man on second, Jacoby Ellsbury hit a sharp grounder to first base. Contreras got a late start to cover the base and couldn't handle Nick Swisher's wide throw. Contreras ran past the bag, then fell to the ground at the end of the infield while trying to avoid Ellsbury. Contreras writhed in pain on the ground, clutching his ankle.

Analysis: Contreras was activated before the game. He had been on the 15-day disabled list with right elbow tendinitis and hadn't started since July 13 at Texas. The 36-year-old right-hander is 7-6 with a 4.60 ERA. He hasn't earned a decision since picking up a win against the Cubs on June 27 and hasn't beaten an American League team since June 5 against Kansas City.

8/9/2008 Carlos Lee, LF (Hou) Lee, the National League's RBI leader, left the Astros' game at Cincinnati in the third inning Saturday night with a broken left pinky finger after getting hit by a pitch. Lee will be reevaluated on Monday.

Analysis: The left fielder, who reached the 100-RBI level for the fourth consecutive season on Friday night, was hit by a pitch from Bronson Arroyo with Lance Berkman on first base, two outs and Houston leading 1-0. What looked like blood was seen on Lee's left pinky finger when his batting glove was pulled off.

8/9/2008 Jose Contreras, SP (CWS) The White Sox activated Contreras from the 15-day disabled list to start Saturday's game against the Boston Red Sox, but Contreras' return was short-lived. He lasted just 1 2-3 innings, giving up three hits, before leaving with an apparent ankle injury.

Analysis: Contreras had been out with right elbow tendinitis and hadn't started since July 13 at Texas. The 36-year-old right-hander is 7-6 with a 4.60 ERA. He hasn't earned a decision since picking up a win against the Cubs on June 27 and hasn't beaten an American League team since June 5 against Kansas City.

8/9/2008 Josh Bard, C (SD) The San Diego Padres placed catcher Josh Bard on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right elbow on Saturday.

Analysis: The move is retroactive to Thursday. Bard injured his elbow during early batting practice Friday before the Padres opened a weekend series against Colorado. He was scratched from the lineup and examined by Rockies medical director Dr. Thomas Noonan on Friday.
8/9/2008 Brian Stokes, RP (NYM) The Mets purchased the contract of Brian Stokes from Triple-A New Orleans to make an important start against the Florida Marlins on Saturday night.

Analysis: It was the first big league appearance this year for the right-hander, who was beaten out by Joe Smith for a bullpen spot in spring training. Stokes went 10-8 with a 4.41 ERA in 23 games (22 starts) at New Orleans, and was 2-7 with a 7.07 ERA in 59 relief appearances for the Tampa Bay Rays last season.

8/9/2008 Mark Grudzielanek, 2B (KC) Royals second baseman Mark Grudzielanek may be out for the season after a MRI revealed a torn deltoid ligament in his right ankle.

Analysis: Grudzielanek went on the disabled list on Aug. 2, one day after colliding with first baseman Ross Gload while catching a fly ball to shallow right off the bat of Juan Uribe of the Chicago White Sox. Royals manager Trey Hillman said Grudzielanek has gone home to San Diego, where he working with a rehab center.

8/9/2008 Joey Votto, 1B (Cin) The Cincinnati Reds placed rookie first baseman Joey Votto on the bereavement list Saturday.

Analysis: At Votto's request, the reason was not revealed. Votto ranks among the National League rookie leaders in most statistical categories. He is eligible to be reinstated from the bereavement list on Tuesday, and must be reinstated by next Saturday.

8/9/2008 Joe Crede, 3B (CWS) Crede received an epidural on Thursday to help get rid of discomfort in his back, according to the White Sox's official Web site.

Analysis: Crede and the White Sox were waiting for the epidural to take effect, and the third baseman could resume his rehabilitation next week. Crede has been on the disabled list since July 25, and underwent back surgery last year and missed most of the season. There is no timetable set for his return. "At this point and time, when he can come and pay again, he'll let us know," GM Ken Williams told the site on Friday.

8/9/2008 Carlos Quentin, RF (CWS) Quentin homered for the third time in four games on Friday in the host White Sox's 5-3 victory over Boston.

Analysis: Quentin, who has gone 8-for-16 during that four-game stretch, has hit .342 (26-for-76) with nine homers and 18 RBIs in 20 games since the All-Star break. He is batting .288 with an AL-leading 31 homers. He also has 88 RBIs this season.

8/9/2008 Orlando Cabrera, SS (CWS) Cabrera drove in two runs for the host White Sox, who hung on to beat the Boston Red Sox 5-3 Friday night.

Analysis: Cabrera, batting .268 with six homers and 46 RBIs this season, has gone 20-for-67 (.299) with three doubles, five RBIs and 12 runs scored over his last 16 contests. He has also batted .306 with five homers and 21 RBIs over 36 career games versus the Red Sox, going 23-for-58 (.397) with two homers and eight RBIs in his last 15 matchups with them.

8/9/2008 Mark Buehrle, SP (CWS) Buehrle took a shutout into the eighth and the Chicago White Sox handed Jon Lester his first loss in 2 1/2 months, hanging on to beat the Boston Red Sox 5-3 Friday night.

Analysis: Buehrle allowed just four hits and tied a season-high with eight strikeouts while walking two after losing his previous two starts. It was a sharp contrast from last week's outing at Kansas City, where he allowed eight runs and 14 hits - tying and setting season-highs, respectively - over 4 1-3 innings in sweltering heat. He improved to 9-10 with a 3.94 ERA in 24 overall starts.

8/9/2008 Jon Lester, SP (Bos) Lester lost for the first time in 12 starts on Friday in Boston's 5-3 road defeat to the Chicago White Sox.

Analysis: Lester, who had gone 7-0 with a 2.75 ERA in his previous 11 starts, gave up four runs and six hits over seven innings and lost for the first time since May 25 in Oakland. He dropped to 10-4 with a 3.23 ERA in 24 overall starts.

8/9/2008 Dustin Pedroia, 2B (Bos) Pedroia hit a three-run homer off Octavio Dotel in the eighth inning, but it wasn't enough for Boston in its 5-3 loss at Chicago on Friday.

Analysis: Pedroia is batting .315 with 10 homers and 52 RBIs this season, and has gone 11-for-35 (.314) with a homer, three doubles and four RBIs over his last eight games. Furthermore, he extended his road hitting streak to 27 games. The streak, which started May 31 at Baltimore, has seen Pedroia bat .429 (51-for-119) with six homers and 15 RBIs.

8/9/2008 Reggie Willits, LF (LAA) Willits was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Saturday due to the concussion he suffered in a game the night before, according to the Angels' official Web site.

Analysis: Willits suffered a concussion Sunday when he collided with Gary Matthews Jr. in right-center field during a game against the New York Yankees, then sustained his second one in six days when he was tagged in the head while sliding headfirst into home in the seventh inning on Friday. Sending Willits to the DL is a precautionary move to avoid him suffering a third concussion, and possibly missing the rest of the season.

8/9/2008 Kerry Wood, RP (ChC) Wood is battling a sore back days after coming off the disabled list because of a blister on his right index finger.

Analysis: Wood's back made him unavailable to pitch Friday, three days after he was activated from a three-week DL stint. He said Saturday he was feeling better and ready to go. "When he's ready, he's ready. I don't know," manager Lou Piniella. "I don't anticipate it being long-term. Just hope it's not as long as the finger." Piniella said he would stick with his initial plan when Wood first came off the DL, keeping him out of save situations so he can get acclimated.

8/9/2008 Ryan Spilborghs, RF (Col) Spilborghs, working his way back from a strained left oblique muscle, played catch and jogged again Friday, according to the Rocky Mountain News.

Analysis: Spilborghs has been playing catch and jogging, but hasn't resumed hitting yet. Perhaps the only good news out of Friday's session was that the outfielder told the newspaper that as recently as a few days ago, his side wasn't "biting anymore" during normal actions - like sneezing. Spilborghs has been out since July 9, and the Rockies have gone 15-10 in his absence. He was batting .314 with six homers and 33 RBIs in 72 games before he was hurt.

8/9/2008 Ryan Church, RF (NYM) Church received medical clearance to resume playing on Friday, and was expected to leave the team after a workout on Saturday to start a rehabilitation assignment in Florida next week, according to the Mets' official Web site.

Analysis: Church has been out since July 6 due to effects from a pair of concussions. Neither the Mets nor Church were sure of when he would start his minor-league stint or when he would return to the majors, but both parties were pleased with the latest step in his recovery. "He was having an All-Star-type year when he got hurt," teammate David Wright said. "Getting him back would be a great lift for us." Church was hitting .307 with 10 homers and 36 RBIs before his injury.

8/9/2008 C.J. Wilson, RP (Tex) Wilson is currently weighing his options to treat the bone spur at the tip of his left elbow, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Analysis: After meeting with Rangers orthopedist Dr. Keith Meister, a visit with Dr. Lewis Yocum on Friday helped Wilson outline the course of action he could take in returning from his injury. He could receive a cortisone injection and potentially pitch again in 2008, or he could have the spur surgically removed and miss the rest of the year. Wilson hasn't chosen either option, but the Rangers are hoping to meet with him over the weekend to discuss some type of treatment.

8/9/2008 Jason Bartlett, SS (TB) Bartlett's bruised index finger hasn't healed enough for him to throw, and it is possible that he won't be ready to return to the starting lineup until next week in Oakland, according to the St. Petersburg Times.

Analysis: Bartlett hasn't played in the field since being hit by a pitch last Sunday, though he has been able to hit and served as the designated hitter on Wednesday. He could be the DH again on Saturday or Sunday. "He threw and it was okay, but still not where he needs to be," Rays manager Joe Maddon said. "We're seeing progress on a daily basis, slow progress, but not good enough to play short yet." There is no timetable for his return, but he might be rested until Tuesday.

Funny stat keeps running thru my mind. Webb at home on Sunday last 11 games. 1 and 10. I guess you could say he is due or---maybe not. Its probably very cynical of me to think that Atlanta might remember those 2 9 inning shutouts and want some more revenge.
Lee has an 8.74 era at Toronto and is 0-3 there on a full 11.1 innings. Could we be seeing Return to Sender tomorrow in Toronto? Minn has been up 2-0 at Kc twice. Once Kc got off and once they did not. The time they did not Minn was about to play the Yankees at home. Of course the Yankees had not swept them at NY then.

Today I became a degenerate OFFICIALLY. Like there was any doubt .

Why ?

I made 12 plays on NFL XBH and 3 on Mens Baskets in the Olympics .

Plus apprx 60 in MLB(sides , totals , RLs , 1st 5 inn , Props , etc ) ....Royals and Cubs FUCKED me so Hard busting two nice parlays and my slow trigger finger hurt me on some others namely -1.5 RLs with Mutts and Braves ......

I learned being sick and really have no choice but to stay in IS detrimental to my health......

For Sunday :

Not looking at much yet . Not the best forward thinker . However what scares me about Balt is the fact Texas is 1 run away from being shutout 3 straight and has scored 4 runs in 4 games . Waters was excellent in his debut @ LAA but also caught the Angels in a nice spot the 2nd game after a long road trip on the other cost . Harission dont buy his Yankee start they were hitting rockets off him except they managed to be right at someone and when he got someone off balance it was DP ...like 4 of them...but think Balt vs LHP a good over run if I am not mistaken...we know Balt is poor on Sundays as well.. Rangers poor on the road vs LHP but Laird did hit 2 Hrs on Sunday vs jays LH Purcey ...-150 is kinda insane IMO...Texas has alot of value IMO ....

Lots of sweep games of interest -
FLA ML?
Reds ML ? Harang off the DL not ideal though
Philly ML to win the series ? Davis decent pitcher but best IMO as a reliever
Nats ? Road stud Lannan facing a LH as well
COL ML? Livan's Rockie debut he pitched well ay Coors earlier
SFG ? Cain as a home pup if they lose tonight
Zona ML ? Webb to avoid the sweep with Zona facing a LHP? Another over maybe?
Cards ML ? Finally CHI loses a home series ..??
Det ML? Oak is terrible on the road vs LHP think they scored 4 runs or more for just the fourth time in at least away vs LHs on Firday...another Over ?
Tor ML? Can they avoid the sweep facing Cliff Lee ? Jays hurt me early and made me gun shy size wise but did hit CLE series play but thats of no consolation when you pay -220
KC Under ? Both good career splits vs eachother
Over @ White Sox ?
Yanks ML ? whole tired arm shit scares me with Pettitte but Yanks looked much better then LAA today until Pudge started hanging sliders to LAA and LAA never let go of the momentum and punished NY late . Sort of reminds me of the 1-0 loss @ the Stadium last week when we starnded 1st and 2nd no out in the first and didnt do much afterwards losing in th etop 9th...

There is a good argument for the Yanks. Angels have done very poorly at home on Sunday vs NY. Can see no other argument for the Yanks. Why would the question not be Angels ml or rl. They have walked on the Yankee pen. They have been very good at home on Sunday. They games have been massively 1 sided so their core relief is rested and they have no game Monday unlike the Yanks. Saunder is 9-2 at home this year and has gone 9 games without a bad game. The Yanks are 1 game under 500 on the road while Anaheim is 13 games over 500 at home and your starter has not been playing well. I understand that I lack any understanding of being a fan but we are here to make Money. Certainly most of the info argues Anaheim why would you even mention the Yanks without a clear argument. For that matter why would you even consider Arizona when they are a 2 dollar fav that is playing bad and Atlanta is playing well ,trying to get back to 500 and has motive vs Webb. You lay 2 dollars when you think the odds should be much higher. HERE, they should be higher???.

Nats ? Road stud Lannan facing a LH as well

This is not a sweep situation. 4 game series ending Monday...

Fair statement but you know I always have a reason or two.

Basically in Zona because you have a guy who is feeling his way back after a 3 year layoff in Mike Hampton opposing a team who only interest me when they face a LHSP or throws Webb or Haren . Check there win pct when Haren and Webb dont start its terrible and has gotten worse . Due is a bad word but Haren was so due . Lost alot of times is how the SP keeps you in the game or just takes you right out of it , never giving you a chance . Mostly because of Zona's ability to hit Hrs as they are a free swinging all or nothing type offense. Also with a bullpen that can start a fire faster then gasoline . Now I felt Haren was about to regress as he was shaky vs pitt and escaped with a win. I have bet ATL - ARI -ATL so far in the series and think the over all 3 days (not usre about the opener) . Simply because I felt the Braves lineup was better then percieved and thought they had played well the past 2 series on the road. They just happened to have a pen who couldnt get a Phillie out blowing two big leads and in SF they just faced 2 young SP who have lights stuff when they are on (lost by 2 and 1 runs) . AtL in the opener threw Morton who can be tough on RHBs which is why his starts vs Milw have been solid as they both feature RH heavy lineups . Campillo is fantastic on the road and I faded ATL because I did not like the ATL lineup vs LHP but Chipper did return and Davis was terrible never giving ARI a chance . Today same deal as Jurrijens is capable of matching Haren and just felt that Braves lineup was just as good probably better then Zona;s with a chance Haren got hit after the Pitt struggle. You dont get a quality ATL SP here IMO and you face Zona's best .....the Braves sent 3 SP with BAA in the 240s vs RH and being RH now its a LH and small samle 291 BAA but previosu 300 and 280 in his full seasons. Though I didnt realize they lost Hudson for awhile today.

Also with ATL winning the first three its possible Chipper may sit here . Also its possible that Mccann may sit as well day after night game with the concussion issues recently . Hampton won @ SF what LH doesnt pitch well vs SF in the past 2 months ? I thought Hampton;s 1st 2 starts were serviceable but still he went 9 innings allwoed 15 hits 10runs walked 6 and K'd 1 . To which I wouldnt be suprised if that K was the pitcher . SF just doesnt hit and while he went 7 innings he also had just 90 pitches which I am guessing 90-100 is his limit and think Zona wont be such a cakewalk. he has 3Ks all year and doubt any vs a real hitter which is an indicator about how so-so his stuff is IMO. Then the pen comes in and Boyer has certainly had some issues of late .

Webbs last 6 starts he went 45 innings allowing just 8 runs . He has not allowed a HR so I assume his sinker is working well . I faded Webb down @ ATL because at the time he opposed @ SP who was throwing well and was home . Zona doesnt hit much so if I can get a SP to match Webb then I dont mind fading him . Just dont see how Hampton matches Webb. If hampton went 6 inn and allowed 3 runs would consider a good effort from him and then ARI has a pretty nice edge in the last 3 innings ..

So I feel that I had good angles in all 3 games cashing 2 nicely as dogs . The role of ace SP is stop LOSING streaks IMO . Webb was about 300 last outing vs Duke who dont consider hampton at this point better then and Pitt's lineup is probably a tad weaker then ATL IF Chipper and Mccann play but ATLs is weaker if they dont . Pitts pen is also probably better then ATLs.

I do like how ATL has hit but its simply representative of opposition pitching IMO. Plus they also put a 7 spot up in the 6th and did damage in game 1 in the t8th of the pen. If they miss Chipper or McCann we saw they scuffle to get 2 runs @ SF vs cain and Lincecum .Really not concerned with any sort of day of the week trend with star SPs.

Basically I had reason to think Haren would regress tonight and have none for Webb to . This is also the best opposing SP matchup for Zona as well IMO after facing 3 RHPs who I suspect have very solid BAA vs RHBs.

I made a mistake backing Halladay today knowing he was overpriced but seeing Webb was about -300 last outing I dont get that feel here. Webb is 8-2 at home with 1 loss that disaster vs LAD which basicallly lead to rauch's acquistion so he could be 9-1 very easily.

Basically while ATL has hit interested in what Cox puts out there and tough to see ATL cracking 3 runs while I think it would take a very good all around effort to hold ARI to 3 runs. Think the past 4 imes including twice @ ATL in 2008 that Braves threw a LH vs ARIZONA it lost ...

The value in NYY is rather simple . How is LAA home and facing fringe SPs and not huge favs ? they clearly where So cheap and I said it . How is Lackey -160 when he is 7-1 with a 1.98 ERA on extra rest when he faces a 31 journeyman making his 3rd start of the year , when his team is regarded as the best as baseabll? Makes no sense to me if LAA is equal to yanks and we allow just 30 cents which is to cheap for home field LAA should basically be -140 if the SP are equal . Worst case lackey should have been -180 today maybe even -200 minimum .

Here my only concern is Andy Pettitte s health. Watched most of the game today and NYY namely Pudge handed that game to LAA . The Angels looked like shit but Pudge is terrible from what I have seen in pitch selection. I wont repost the Ramirez outing or todays outings either . They BLAME for the pens failure is all on Pudge's shoulders IMO . You dont throw changeups repeatedly on 3-2 to slap hitters especially with no on and a lead and you didnt allow a pitcher to hang a slider with 2 strikes after he just blew a 96 MPH fastball by the hitter . Its stupid and even the announcers said you have to question pitch selection .... instead of nailing Pudge to the wall they said thats the problem with working with a new staff . No it isnt you dont get beat in close games on hanging breakballs when you have guys who throw in the low and mid 90s its baseball 101.
I would not take the LAA pen over NYYs . Cant disagree that LAAs hasnt executed better but man for man NYYs is better IMO...

The reason that LAA have beaten NYY is because of execution . When they failed to execute in the 2nd H on Sunday they themselves looked like ass. I give LAA credit but lets face they look good because they are getting breaks. Its obvious you can make them look foolish . Moose , Ponson and Giese hardly "great stuff' SP did. Its more obvious you cant give them an inch though. Also they are throwing quality SP and facing fringe SP due to NYYs health issues..

When teams get momentum things can get crazy and thats basically what has happened in these games .

As I said my question focuses on Pettitte. He says he is fine . I doubt Pudge is behind the dish today . Would go as far as to say I would be shocked .

I am not a fan of Saunders and expect NYY to hit him . Pettitte as I said doesnt lose much in the 2nd H and this is the 1st time he lost consecutive starts after June 1st since coming back to NYY . We know he is great after a Yankee loss. Point blank I'll take him everyday over Joe Saunders . Especially when he gets a rematch vs a teamm who smacked him around some. So finally we have the edge in SP (at least IMO) and overall pitching IMO as I have no concerns about the Yankee pen . Also last year Pettitte was hit hard at home vs LAA and responded with a 1 run 7 inn effort @ LAA could it happen again ? Deja Vu , all over again??
Plus Joe Saunders does nothing but pitch vs crap teams . He hasnt faced NYY since 2006 ...

Some trends ?
Yanks 15-2 in Game 3s after a LOSS while LAA just 13-12 after win.
Yanks are 44-12 L56 Game 3s.
Yanks are 23-8 L31 Sundays
Pettitte is 13-3 L16 game 3 starts
Yanks are 8-2 L10 and 16-5 L21 with this home plate ump.

Actually I think this series has been all about pitching . NYY was all over Weaver early but didnt delive the knockout punch in the 3rd inn yesterday to which a 3-2 lead quickly was erased by LAA and later down just 1 run Abreu hits into a double play to end the 7th . After Ian Kennedy we used rasner who hld it together for awhile . Then you again use Bruney who is not ready to pitch to quality hitters after little rehab and a long layoff. Said it SC Doggy the other day . Yanks had there chance to win game 1 and let it slip away . Today same deal and they had Dan Giese dealing vs a Cy Young canditate type SP in Lackey . It shouldnt be close its a great effort by NY to be up 3-1 late . Your asking a 31 year old journeyman on the road to outpitch John Lackey when his lineup is just as good as yours. LAA was so easy on paper I couldnt even bet it .

5 times NYY lost Games 1 and 2 away but win Game 3 all 5 times . Then 3 times they won game 1 and 2 away only to lose game 3 all three times. So with like outcomes in Game 1 and 2 on the road all 8 times they had opposite outcome in game 3

In all 6 meetings the difference has been execution IMO. Even when Pettitte got shelled @ NYY it would have been intersting had LAA played defense like it did in game 4 . LAA made 2 huge diving stabs in the 9th in a game with a wide margin but with bases loaded and the 1st 2 outs of the innings.

I am impressed in some manners by LAA but dont think they are good as the credit they are being given. While its limited Saunders DAY BAA is 319 vs 217 at nite and his ERA is 1.20 runs higher...His day career splits are rather ugly but limited . Also his his HOME ERA is 1.16 runs higher and BAA 43 points higher .

I agree with SN. Zona (still playing for a playoff spot) at home looking to avoid a sweep with their ace on the mound. 2 bucks is a bargain...Should be -250ish...(especially against Hampton)

Nats ? Road stud Lannan facing a LH as well

This is not a sweep situation. 4 game series ending Monday...

Thanks. I knew that . I kinda lumped it all in there . Alot of sweep situations out there but your right this isnt 1 . Just a game I had circled . Think Boston @ Wsox also a rare 4 game Friday to Monday set . Thanks:shake:

Think TB had 9 straight road unders before today and with the pens getting stretched might be a good spot for another over tmrw with the mindset of squeeing a bit extra out of the SP especially Dickey if either gets hit ir struggles early ...gonna be a tough loss for someone on Sat nite (hope not me have SEA +1.5 )

Webb is playing well. Do you notice Greinke today. Not pretty. I have posted his saturday numbers 3 times. They just get worse. Webb has lost 10 of his last 11 Sunday home games. Will it happen tomorrow. Do not know but it makes Atlanta clear action to me.
I see Joe with a 3.90 day era and Pettitte 3.77. Does that day era come mostly from day games in Ny?
Only problem is the damn Sunday road record at Anaheim
for the Yanks. Even looking at an Anaheim team that has won 6 straight at home on Sunday that worries me
I know both teams seem to drift away at odd points vs left handed pitching. Pens we clearly disagree big. Just compare recent numbers and its totally one sided. How long is Pettitte going to pitch? That is assuming he can pitch. Final opinion here is Anaheim is the better team currently. They lost Escobar and NY lost Wang. Pettitte is about 36 and is 8-12 last 20 on the road on Sunday with only 1 quality win. Saunders is a reasonable average pitcher. He could go nuts but he has been steady and with a Big edge in Pen see Anaheim worth a bet.

One more thing. There are creeps like Pavano and also there are men like Hampton. He was a middle range great pitcher. He got hurt. He was a great athlete. If you underrate him when he is pitching to clear his record and end well that seems dangerous to me.
Might duck Toronto. Would like to chance it but Lee plays well with that ump.

The Cubs/Brewers/Cards trio have something special going on at the moment - it's called road team dominance.

In the last 11 games between any combination of these sides...

- The road team is 10-1 SU (Dogs 8-3 SU) & 11-0 on the runline (O/U 5-5-1).

- No home team has scored more than 4 runs, while the road team has scored at least 6 runs 7 times.

Further, in the last 20 games between any combination of these sides...

- The home team has only once scored more than 5 runs, while the road team has managed that same feat 8 times.

- The home team has only once won by more than 2 runs, while the road team has managed that same feat 8 times.

SN, I think the value is in LAA today. ML, RL, you name it. I took NYY last night and the over and broke even and I don't regret it since the Yankees had the lead after 6 and they don't lose often in such situation.

Player by player NYY is better than anyone yet they are nine games above .500, LAA is exactly 30.

Your knowledge of baseball is far superior to mine and I won't argue there but you know very well they don't play "player by player" it's the team that counts.

The Yankees have had a turbulent season, first that below .500 stint, then a nice run, key injuries in Posada, Matsui, Wang and now Joba, but I just can't get rid of the impression that they missed their usual clutch factor throughout 2008.

We talked about their plate discipline I think, I watch a lot of baseball games lately and Yanks are sometimes nothing but a free swinging team. Last night they COULD HAVE gotten to Lackey but he had I think 13 pitches for 2 IP, they are just swinging like crazy, and this is not the NYY we know.

I highly respectfully disagree with your claim that the Angels could have been -200 last night. The Yankees, especially in 2nd half of the season, could start me and they shouldn't be +200. Cy Young Lackey? Yes, perhaps, but NOT AGAINST NYY. These guys were going to hit him and you knew it. They did get a few hits off him but couldn't convert it to runs. A Rod is still in Lackey's back pocket despite the solo shot, but I did not like what I saw from NYY.

But SN, you have to realize you guys got Sexson (more of a sub than anything else but anyways), Nady (who is hitting like .400 since he arrived to the club) and Pudge to improve both offensively and defensively and you still can't deliver consistently. One night it's sub par pitching the other one they can't "put teams away", etc

I am a huge fan of your posts but I think you're in a bit of a denial if you think the Yankees are one of the best teams in baseball right now. I thought so too up until recently but I'm slowly changing my mind.

TB Devil Rays are rolling, 70 wins last night. Player by player position by position the Mariners are not that much worse than TB. TB has 70 wins, my Seattle has 45. Team stepping, clutch hitting and SP consistency.

NYY have been OWNED by LAA this year. Pettitte has horrid numbers both against LAA (70 for 194, .361! BAA), Garret Anderson, who is btw batting .376 with six homers since July 1, owns him (29 for 74, 3 homers, .392).

I am all for thinking 'outside the box', even though a lot of the times I do read your thoughts to get there, but these are fundamentals right here.

Yankee 2nd half trends may not apply as strongly as LAA 2008 clutchness, especially in the 2nd half of the season. These guys stepped up against big teams. They did not get 14 games ahead of Texas by beating on Baltimore and Seattle.

They beat Boston, NYY, TB, you name it.

Pettitte has great 2nd H numbers and great road numbers (3.87 ERA) but Saunders is just under the radar guy. You may not like him but he faced Boston twice (beat them twice), Texas and Philly in last 10 games as far as good offenses are concerned. Went 8.0 IP, 6 H, 3 ER against a (back then) hot Rangers lineup at Arlington.

Saunders is not someone I would pick over Pettitte in a rubber playoff game but in this situation, when Pettitte isn't even 100% healthy, when he's currently on a slide (8.27 ERA last 3 starts, 16.1 IP), getting shelled big time in last two starts, playing against one of his biggest foes as far as BAA concerned, Anaheim gets my call here unless there are some late lineup scratches.

Take out Garret Anderson and Torii Hunter and I'm not that interested any more, but these Angels have been steamrolling and as I said, last night I went on NYY and the over and did not regret it (I could have gone 0-2 but I agree with you, the Yanks were the play considering the price before the game, Giese is a solid guy and I knew he was going to have a good 5 innings last night which he did, whilst I did count on NYY to knock Lackey for a few.

All they managed was b2b solo shots. You do not beat Anaheim that way and they know it. They had a lot of chances, stranded baserunners, basically the better team through 7 IP.

But couldn't convert. In a lot of the games they make the opposing SP work to his win but in others they act like they're in HR derby. Last night Lackey had what, a 7 pitch inning against the core of the lineup. This is not the NYY we know.

The point of this is, I think the plays tomorrow are the over, this has been a heavily over dominated series and fading such a trend now is not something I'd do, and the Angels, ML, -1 and -1,5 respectively.

These guys are unconscious right now, they don't need the wins since they're like 99% in the playoffs but they are rolling and are pretty fired up against big teams. They did not care to lose to Baltimore but won't give one single win to Boston or NYY if they really don't have to.

You think Saunders gets hit. I think so too. I see 6.0 IP, 8 H, 4 ER.

I see Pettitte doing worse. Even if he doesn't, they have been molesting NYY pen throughout the season now, and I am not uncomfortable taking them again if it comes down to that.

LAA is just the better team right now and not just because of the fact they're 30 games above .500. They are delivering in all possible ways, when they outplay teams, when they don't outplay them, come from behind, dominate early, etc.

The biggest NYY angle situationally here is 15-2 after loss in game 3. That's very legit. I disagree that analyzing Saunders' day and night ERA in this case is as relevant. Whether it is 2.50 night and 3.50 day these are both great numbers. Look at Pettitte v LAA + Pettitte last 3 (health issues?), in my opinion outweighs any Saunders angle we have for tonight.

NYY pen pitched 10 innings this series, and they all got shelled. Rasner and Bruney two days ago and Ramirez, Veras and Robertson last night and you're not concerned?

SN, LAA are obviously making a statement in 2008 because you don't see their foot off the pedal for one second. Come playoffs I will think about their possible demise, who knows what happens then, but right now they are the team to beat.

Btw, for all reading this post I like LAA but this isn't a homer play, I'm a Mariners fan if anything these days since betting took 99% of this homerism crap away. :D

And Mark. Adding him to the Angel line up makes it almost like a machine designed to brutalize Andy.

Btw, I have a tip for everyone here.

You guys should check out Ladbrokes.com, not sure if it allows US citizens or not but it's worth a check.

Wanna know what they do?

Seattle goes up 5:0 in the 2nd inning. So, a home team is up, meaning they probably won't bat the 9th if they keep the lead right, but regardless of that there are 7 more innings to be played...

but look at this.

live betting at that moment says this.

Tampa Bay +3,5 @ 2.57
Tampa Bay ML 8.50

A few hours before, NY Mets are up 8:4, end 7th. Again, Florida gets 2 innings to bat, NYM get one.

Florida +3,5 @ 2.00

I'm telling you, these guys are trippin'. I'm thinking about making a killing there then kindly e mailing them offering my services :36_11_6::36_11_6:

Needless to say I pounded it. I pounded both, then TB at +2,5 again, made 15 units in a couple of hours. Thinking we're losing time here discussing 0.12 line discrepancies and these guys are giving away +3,5 @ 2.57 on the better team, on the road (which is important due to 'six percent less baseball for the home team if they lead after top 9th). These spreads are just too big. +3,5 @ 2.57 my ass.

someone confirm for me Carpenter will still be on a pitch count for tomorrow's start? knowing he likely only goes 5 leaving 4 for that horrid bullpen will color my take on the total.

played a small bet on Over 10.5 in Chicago - stacks of things for said play.

Looking at the Sunday Nighter Stats for the Cards/Cubs a Fave/Over Combo seems like the logical choice + if the Cubs score runs, they have that great SU record. If Carpenter doesnt go more than 5 inn. it seems to me they will score a bunch. They might get at least 2 runs off him, looking the numbers Soriano, Lee and Edmonds have against him.

Also that big 12-3 loss yesterday must be a thorn in their side and make them come out and get some revenge.

Baltimore has gone 63 games without posting consecutive Under results. They are 41-18-4 to Over during this period, and are 15-0-2 to Over off their last 17 Under results.

They play Sunday off an Under result on Saturday.
BC (or anyone else)....would love to hear some insight how this game goes over...Estabrook seems to be a heavy duty Under Ump and Waters coming off an excellent outing. Harrison has some numbers that indicate he might get shelled by Bal today but still would like to read some insight.

There is no stated pitch count however Larussa does not make pitch counts public even if they exist.. I can't see him going past 90 though.. He hit 80 in rehab start.

Only needed 51 to get through 5 innings last week.. Rain delay ended his night. I would say he gets to 6th or 7th if he doesn't get in early trouble.

Cards bullpen sucks, yes, however they have their best arms lined up and rested. Perez, Mcclelland.. If Carp can get to 6th or 7th you will only see these two guys and a situational lefty.. Perez is nasty closer in waiting..You will not see Izzy if the game is close.

My take-- I would not shade the over based on past Cardinal bullpen woes in this one.. Just doesn't line up that way for this game IMO.

Weather update - raining here in Philly, I live about a mile from Citizens Bank Park.

Just wanted to give a heads up. :shake:

Yeah the Yankees have not looked better than the Angels for 1 second. At times, in the series, they were playing close. The score indicates just how far apart these two teams really are... and I'm a somewhat Yank fan but it's true. Bad matchup for them... well really with anyone

Jason Davis is scheduled to join the Pirates' rotation with a start Sunday against the Phillies. A longtime reliever, Davis was a full-time starter at Triple-A prior to being called up, going 6-9 with a 4.41 ERA and 68/47 K/BB ratio in 116 1/3 innings. He has a 4.75 ERA in 434 career major league innings, but hasn't started a big league game since 2005 and gets a very tough first matchup against Philadelphia.

Chris Carpenter threw five scoreless innings Tuesday against the Dodgers in his second start back from the disabled list.

Because of a rain delay, Carpenter was pulled after just 51 pitches tonight. He would have had at least one and maybe two more innings left in him after throwing 67 pitches in his first start back.

I think Carp is good for 6 or 7. Add a lean to the under so I expect his count to remain relatively low.

Good stuff Tuck and Satyr. I dont have time yet to respond but did read. Simply put the key for me to play Arizonais what those lineups look . The game out at LAA my take is differentt I guess and will explain later . I just dont see how can see value in the Yanks on Saturday when you have one of the elite SP in the game in a situation where he was 7-1 1.98 ERA vs a guy who I like in Giese but needed to outpitch the star with a 2 ERA on the road . In my opinion LAA was INCREDIBLY cheap but again this is the third team they made Lackey cheap vs NYY and Boston . He was -120 @ Yankee Stadium vs them how in the world could he be just -160 at home ...

I have more to say but no time yet ....

Last start believe the rain delay is why Carpenter was pulled as there were 2 in the 5th inning probably playing it safe. This start would think he is somewhere bewteen 80-90 pitches but its hard to peg just how long that is . He went 5 inn on 50 pitches so he could go 7 on 85 pitches ...

NYY
Date Pos Player Injury Status
08/10 9:34am 1B Jason Giambi Rest not expected to start Sunday vs Los Angelos
08/09 1:10pm P Andy Pettitte Arm is upgraded to probable Sunday vs. Los Angeles Angels

Some additionl Yanks/Angels thoughts;

The yanks beat the angels in almost every offensive category while the Halos have better pitching numbers. However, I believe that the difference in pitching is due to the schedules each has faced. Oakland and Seattle are only ahead of Washington, San Fran, and San Diego in runs scored. The Yanks have started guys that I am used to seeing in Buffalo while the Angels have a bunch of "studs?" I am not so sure that is actually the case.

Also, given the fact that Tor and Bos carry 2 of the league's top 4 team era's it is also telling that the Yanks offensive numbers are so much better than the Halos.

Having said that, the Angels do have the yanks number as well as tinkerbell up their ass.

More Yankee thoughts-

Time is short to respond on everything said .

1st major factor is SP . Look at what NYY is throwing against vs LAA and vice versa . Still NYY SP has held up most days . The worst NYY has seen is what Jeff Weaver ?

2nd factor : MOMENTUM- This has aplyed a ROLE in every single game bewteen these two. Once either gets they have steamrolled the other . To LAAs credit they have done a muchbetter job when NY has opened the door even slightily . However whats the suprise ? Isnt that NYY major flaw the past 5 or so years ? Starnding runners and failing to punish opposing pitchers when they have them on the ropes .

Whatever has happened vs NYY pen has all been momentum based . When LAA has no momentum vs NYY it doesnt do much if anything vs the Yankee pen. It seems forgotten that in Game 1 @ NYY when LAA had a nice lead the Yanks torched the LAA pen and hit the ball TWICE as hard as LAA did in the8th inning. I can EASILY prove this when given some time. Also as I said you have to look at why things HAPPEN. There is not a SOUL on the Earth who can prove to me that Pudge is largely if not entirley responsible for Edwar Ramirez's effort last Sundat and Jose Veras and the thereafter yesterday . LAA is a very smart team and plays the game the right way . They have Pudge figured out and I am curious to see how LAA hit vs DET when Pudge caugh this year .

Today's matchup is this :

Is Andy Pettitte healthy ? If so he is great at bouncing back of bad starts and winning the GAMES the Yanks need to win . We know the Yanks have done well on Sundays and Game3s this year and in the past . That come froms Torre and now Girardi's emphasis on winning series but also avoid the negative momentum of being swept.

As I said before NY has lost the 1st 2 games on teh road 5 times so far in 2008 and won all . They even won the 1st 2 three times and lost Game 3 all three times...

Pettitte also was roughed up at the Stadium and bounced back in 2007. Slight difference is time bewteen the rematch .

Saunders has faced many weak teams if you look at his log. He hasnt faced NYY in 2 full years .

The one thing I know about Pettitte's Day stats is this :

Remember the 11-10 or 12-11 game at home vs KC when Guillen went off ? It was on a Saturday afternoon so that has to be accounted for .

With Saunders his numbers are good regardless of situation . However he is NOT in his best situation where his stats are the best . So your in a sense getting Joe Saunders at 80% face value in terms of his overall stats .

Very key for Pettitte is HomeRuns and I said this before when the ball stays in the park in 2008 Pettitte has been VERY good when he allows a HR his stats are ugly . I will posyt them when I get a second ...and looking at his texas game I dont think he is clearly HURT just seems like rumor .

The way I had the series playing out and mentioned this a few times wa Game 1 -coin flip because you didnt knwo what Kennedy could do but still thought LAA went off cheap , Game 2 LAA was EXTREMELY cheap and Game 3 had the opener @ LAA -120 and was the GAME I circled for NYY....

Notice anything ? Weaver and Lackey failed to win @ NYY and won at home maybe the trend continues with Pettitte getting his......

Bottomline is to much LOVE for LAA they are not playing as well as mentioned . As I said last SUN when you execute you look great when you dont you like LAA allowing 10 UNEARNED RUNS late on Sunday or NYY blowing a 3-1 lead allowing 10 late runs....funny how that evened itself out......

Look at how a LH made LAA struggle in Chris Waters ...

Yanks ML but at least equally is 1st 5 under and game under ....Yanks ahev some bats resting and Molina is a HUGE plus for the Staff imo and weaker bat...

Well today I realized why I sometimes get locked out of plays its not just my internet connection that can at times go screwy when I need it most . Its this damn shit online book I use that actually slows down I guess when it gets overwhelmed with plays ...namely 1PM Sundays...I got locked out of addding on to some 1 PM plays and WORSE just discovered that while I had DET ML , UNDER 1st 5 inn ..couldnt get the full UNDER in I fucked UP and clicked the wrong box when I was scrambling and played OAK +!.5 instead of Det -1.5 .......only a near 200 hundo swing ...:36_11_6:

What a week !!!

The only reason I can laugh is because my insomnia has been acting up and havent been able to fall asleep or sleep. Wake up at 8 on Sat but think I woke up little before 12 today and knew it was going to be interesing ......

GL all . Hopefully someone made some dough of this game post!

And I also flubbed on a parlay ...UNDER 9 LAA , Arizona and over @ Seattle with what was supposed to be the Yanks ML. However I guess AGAIN I clicked the wrong box and have LAA ML instead......which I cant root against myself regardless because I have NYY ML in another parlay ....

Might change my tag to DisOrganized !

havent been lookin around too much yet, so not sure if i missed it...

does anyone know if carp will be on a pitch count tonight???

67 pitches in hotlanta and 51 at home vs LA...
i do like the cards alot tonight as well theyre hitting RHSP and as well as theyve hit dumpster in the past. carp has pitched well in wrigley in the past too

STL pen is a red flag though, so maybe STL first half?
pitch count will be important so if anyone knwos lets hear it otherwise ill find it in a bit

Sunday Night Baseball:

Cards @ Cubbies :

Interesting and exciting series so far . I started Friday by playing STL+1.5 RL with smaller plays on the ML and 1st 5 inn ML . Really loved the UND but got spooked when it git bet to 9 and stuck with the 1st 5 inn UND. Yesterday as we knew the wind was OUT had the over but had Cubs ML that busted a parlay.

The way I see it is STL is clearly playing better then CHI this series and not because I rode them in game 1 but they should have won . They had missed opportunities which eventually the pen ran thin in extras.

IMPORTANT :
Yesterday we had 2 RHP and the wind blowing out to RF(maybe even some to CF) . Now I didnt watch the game but a guy like Glaus has great power the opposite way and he had 2 Hrs (power RHP vs RHB could see alot of balls the opposite way) , Schumaker a LH had one , Pujols , DeRosa to CF and Big Z who hits LH.

Today it seems we have the wind in from LF probably a tad stronger then yesterdays wind. Again two RHP with good fastballs but not exceptional and not as hard as yesterdays SP. So probably more guys pulling the ball. Plus alot of RHBs on both sides especially the middle of the lineups . So RHB are going to be hitting into the wind.

So good conditions for an UNDER .

Carpenter in his 1st 2 starts has done well and LaRussa was raving about his outing vs LAD. Which he went scoreless innings allowing just 3 hits all singles . One of which was a IF hit by the pitcher . His previous outing was solid as well. he had some jams in the 2nd and 3rd inn but he worked out with just 1 run allowed . Overall 4 inn 5 hits 1 run. Again all singles and 1 was a bunt hit . His last start was just 51 or 53 pitches vs a solid LAD lineup now that Manny is hitting cleanup . His was taken out due the rain delays IMO whuich featured 2 in the 5th inning .

RHP has given Cubs trouble lately even at home.
Wellenmeyer 3 runs / Over
Looper 3 runs/UND
Backe 11 runs/over
Moehler 0 runs/UND
Snell 8 runs/over
Karstens 0 runs/UND
VadenHurk 9 runs/over
Johnson 2 runs /UND
Volstad 2 runs /UND
Lincecum 2 runs / UND
Correia 8 runs / Over
Cain 3runs / UND

L12 home games vs RHSP since July 11th

Basically in 8 of them they scored 3 runs or less and is it suprising all QUALITY SP (well Karstens looks like quality in his 1st 2 starts) . The 4 guys the hit and scored off (Snell didnt get shelled but he did leave early with back spasms) were Correia (5th SP on a very bad team) , VadenHurk (youngster trying to be the 5th SP high career ERA to date ) , Snell rough season has an 8 road ERA , Backe could fit as a quality guy based on some recent outings vs Chi but even he is basically the Astros 5th SP at this point with a history of road issues .

All good SP mostly with power arms:
Cain , Lincecum , Volstad , Josh Johnson (think 7-0 in his starts) ,

Karstens 2 excellent starts in his Pirates career , Moehler the unknown gem of the season done very well as a SP , Looper quality SP with success in the past vs CHI and Wellenmeyer when healthy was very solid and tough on RHB as well .....

Now they get Carpenter ...who looks solid . Should be capable of 6 innings possibly 7 if his pitch count remains below 90 or right near it..McClellan is rested and should be able to go 2 innings . Springer has done a good job all year could turn to him to get to McClellan. Hopefully that keeps Franklin out of the game but also Franklin does have a fairly solid track record vs Chi in 12.1 inn a .185 BAA .

Dempster is a good situational spot for him. He pitched Monday and worked jus 5 innings because of the rain delays. Solid effort 2 runs and 1bb to Ks .

The only one not on the 6th day was the last one @ Houston which came on the 7th day.

He allowed or ZERO runs or 1 in 5 of them although one lasted just 5 innings. he allowed 2 runs in another . The start he allowed 4 runs is the EXACT opposite of this game as the WIND was blowing out when he and Harang squared off.

Last 3 at home are 23inn 13 h 4 runs 1Hr 7 BB 19K and tack on 6 inn 4h 4 r 1hr 5bb 3k from the 1st home start the windy game vs Cincy ...

All 4 wins for CHI. 29inn 17 h 8 runs ...

Cubs have won 11 of 14 home starts by Dempster but the lost 3 of the past 4.

Looking at :
Under 7.5 runs and 1st 5 inn UNDER
STL ML and RL +1.5

Saw the lineups suprised Theriot takes a seat here as I view him as a key player when I look to back CHI . Also Edmonds MUCH different player at NIGHT vs DAY and he is batting 5th .

Also Fuki is 2-21 this week.

Didnt include this above :

Cubs in the past 12 home games vs RHSP are :
2-6 when scoring 3 runs or less and 8-0 UNDER
4-0 when scoring more then 3 runs and 4-0 Over

They are a case of extremes as BC would say scoring 8,9,8 amd 11 in those wins .

Seems like the POPULAR score in these games is 3-2 and that will be my guess for today : Cards win 3-2 .

Some Cubs have past history vs Carp but little is relevant IMO only stats I would look at are 2004 and after . Same with Dempster only concerned with his 2008 reincarnation as a SP.
