Not sure where to put this, NCAAF is the best fit, I guess. Lot of Ohio high school football royalty in this tournament. Jump & Marrski may be the only guys interested, or maybe a couple recruiting junkies, but you'll see some of these kids in college games (big and small) in the near future. STO will probably air a bunch of these games if you get that channel. Couple intriguing first rounders ... St. Ignatius @ Canton McKinley & St. X @ Cincy Moeller. Going to be tough to knock off Ed's. That said, go Wildcats!
Pairings REGION 1
16. Shaker Heights(6-4) at 1. St. Edward (8-1) 9. Cleveland Heights (9-1) at 8. Wadsworth (9-1) 12. Solon (6-4) at 5. Westerville Central (9-1) 13. Marysville (7-3) at 4. Austintown-Fitch (10-0) 11. Cincinnati St. Xavier (5-5) at 2. Cincinnati Moeller (9-1)
Contenders
Cincinnati Colerain: Playing in the Greater Miami Conference didn't help Colerain's computer points. Despite being 10-0, the Cardinals finish as a No. 6 seed. A regional finalist in 2012, the Cardinals return many key players from that run. This season they have a 31-19 win over Division I playoff team St. Xavier.
Cincinnati Moeller: The defending Division I state champ, Moeller was undefeated until running into St. Edward in Week 9. The Crusaders have three wins by four points or less, including an OT win over St. Xavier. However, they had close games last year as well and entered the playoffs 7-3 before winning their eighth state title.
Hilliard Davidson: The No. 1 seed in Region 2, Hilliard Davidson is making its 12th playoff appearance since 2000, and trying to win its third title in that span. The Wildcats have wins over three Division I playoff teams – Hilliard Darby, Dublin Coffman and Marysville.
Mentor: The Cardinals could run into four fellow Northeast Ohio Conference teams en route to the final four, including two - Hudson and Brunswick - they beat this season. They have perhaps the most explosive offense in Region 1.
St. Edward: The Eagles enter the playoffs as the No. 1 seed in Region 1. After a Week 8 loss to St. Ignatius, they regained a lot of momentum with wins over Cincinnati Moeller and Eastern Christian Academy. No. 1 seeds have won state just five times since 2000, but the Eagles are a good bet to play for their second title since 2010.
St. Ignatius: Perhaps the biggest wild card in Division I. The Wildcats' tough schedule has been well documented. Although they finished the regular season at 6-4, wins over Mentor and St. Edward prove the Wildcats are a dangerous No. 11 seed.
Best opening-round game
11 St. Ignatius at 6 Canton McKinley: McKinley gets a home game but must host the Wildcats, the team everybody in Region 1 likely wanted to avoid in the first round. The Wildcats were 3-3 in their final six games, but have wins over St. Edward and Mentor. The Bulldogs were undefeated until a Week 10 loss to rival Massillon.
Upset special
15 St. Xavier at 2 Moeller: St. Xavier is 5-5, but played one of the state's toughest schedules, which featured just one team with a losing record. That schedule also included a 20-17 OT loss to Moeller in Week 5. Don't be surprised if the Bombers give Moeller all it can handle in the first round.
Impact players
Marcus Bagley, Cleveland Heights: Good things happen for the Tigers when Bagley scores. The senior RB has only been kept out of the end zone in the Tigers' lone loss to Glenville.
Matt Colella, St. Ignatius: The senior kicker has been invaluable as the Wildcats' offense dealt with injuries. He had key field goals in wins over Mentor and St. Edward, and also hit a game-winner in OT this season.
Shaun Crawford, St. Edward: The offensive/defensive/special teams threat has been banged up down the stretch, but look for the Eagles to use the Michigan recruit in a variety of ways in the playoffs.
Eric Glover-Williams, Canton McKinley: The junior QB was the first Ohio State recruit of the 2015 class. Nicknamed ''Superman,'' he is a threat to run and throw for the Bulldogs.
Mitch Guadagni, Hudson: The junior quarterback is the key to the Explorers' offense. He has 13 total TDs in the past four games, including a five TD effort in Week 10.
Mikel Horton, Lakota West: The RB and Kentucky recruit has over 1,000 yards rushing and 11 TDs this season for the Firebirds.
Conner Krizancic, Mentor: Taking over for a Mr. Football winner can't be easy, but Krizancic's conversion from WR to QB has been a success. The senior - headed to Cincinnati as a WR - has accounted for 37 TDs this season.
Gus Ragland, Moeller: The senior QB has accounted for more than 30 TDs this season, with an equal share coming on the ground and through the air.
Picks
Final four: St. Edward, Mentor, Huber Heights Wayne, Cincinnati Colerain.
State champ: St. Edward. The Eagles followed up their lone loss with two of their biggest wins of the season. They should carry that momentum all the way to their fifth finals appearance and second state title.
